Overheat! - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

Is there something wrong with my phone if it heats up no matter what custom ROM i use?
I tried Primadonna Sense 4.0a and its super hot
Then i tried new Miui by mikroms and also heat i had to go back to stock for now should i restore with stock img and reroot again?

Stock battery?
If so - sorry, but, blame HTC. The stock battery is unforgivable and crap.
If using an aftermarket battery like an anker or mugen, then as long as you aren't overclocked it shouldn't be too bad.

So my only problem would be the battery? cause it feels hot around where the Sim and SD card are at? so if i buy one of those anker or mugen u think that would fix the issue?

Read through some of the battery threads here, you'll find quite a few first-hand accounts of this problem magically vanishing after replacing the battery with one that wasn't designed to break your device so you buy a new one.
A crappy battery I could forgive HTC for, they make phones, not batteries.
One that physically damages and ages the device into a premature hardware failure? Shame on you HTC, that's slimy business practice.

The stock battery is worthless. Like blue said, as soon as i threw my anker in the heat problem went away.

I think that's more of a processor problem. Are you overclocking a lot or for extended periods of time?
I've never had a specific overheat issue due to the stock battery

Stock battery with stock speeds overheated while playing games or during heavy multitasking.
Last night i noticed my anker was dying faster than it had ever died so when i went to turn the processor down some i noticed it was on 1.5 performance. Then it hit me that earlier that day i had been running linpacks and forgot to turn it back down and i didnt even have a heat issue then. I usually run underclocked around 800mhz-1GHz and always have because i dont need more than that. So the stock battery is what causes the over heating.

120+ is in my eyes overheating, because back when i had the OG evo anything over 117 would damage the phone. So its a pattern with HTC to overheat phones. No big though my problem is solved, but for other users who have the same issue across multiple forums/sites they should know how to fix the problem.
Sent from my HTC MyTouch 4G Slide using Tapatalk 2

on the stock battery my phone's gotten to 122+ while usb tethering and fried one of my sd cards. t-mobile ended up replacing the unit and giving me a new sd card.
the new phone/battery didn't help the overheating problem so i bought a mugen battery. since switching to mugen, it hasn't gone past 114 and battery life is much improved
---------- Post added at 08:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:57 AM ----------
also, my htc amaze had a less intense version of the overheating problem until i replaced them with ankers. so yeah, htc has really sucked with their batteries lately. i never had these issues with the g2, just their dual-core phones.

I got my phone into the 140s once while driving through New Mexico and North Texas earlier this summer. Set it on the dashboard for a good 30 minutes while playing music lol. I had screen caps, but my sd card didn't make it.

Thanks
Thanks for all the responses guys i didnt want to take risk on getting new battery and still having the problem so i called T-Mobile and they sent me a replacement phone. Now the only thing im a little afriad of is my s-off i already flashed the stock image and it seems the root is gone..would they say anything???

Taking the risk of GB radiofor the sake of science.

Just talked to a friend from vzw, he told me that if something happened he will hook me up with a replacement for my tbolt.
I've been using gb radio since the 1st day it was leaked, i have no problems on my phone, just some random FCs but that's given.
Since we don't have a solid demographics on how many people got bricked, Im going to take the risk and see if i get bricked.
This morning i just got into a bootloop but looks like its just the battery giving false stats. Its been more than 6 hours now in my external charger and i assume battery doesn't hold charge anymore, Im going tommorow to vzw to have it replaced.
Question is, will logcat be enough to monitor my phone in case i got bricked so i can pull some important data regarding how it happen?, that way we can find a clue on how to fix a radio-bricked tbolt.
Have you cleared battery stats under cwr advanced?

From what I've read, that's not possible as the bootloop happens even booting into recovery.

Yes i have cleared my battery stats. My previous battery is now dead. I think i discharged it too much, now its not holding any charge. My phone still runs on gb bamf and loving my lockscreen. Will let you know if i get bricked.

Lol you obviously didn't read his post. No risk involved.
I hope someone could shed a light to my questions.
1st. How does the radio firmware work on our phone? Does it work like a driver where it acts a mediator between the roms(software) to the phone's hardware.
2nd. What are the possible trigger to recreate the bootloop of death? There are some cases that my phone overheats because of non responsive apps and ever since i flashed on GB rom there i times i can feel my phone hot, which could be the case from some of the boot loop victim that they fried something inside their phone.
3rd. What are the chances that same bootloop of death could also occur in froyo radio? Just because vzw officially released the radio doesn't mean it has same risk like the leaked GB radio. It is like how HTC manufactured the phone, they tested most of it but some are still lemons.
Everything is in theory right now, there are no fix because it happens in random and the reason is still unknown. I'd choose to participate for the fix instead of waiting for someone to figure out the fix. We all do take a bold step in rooting our phone, flashing different roms, putting our faith on the battery that it wouldn't fail during the flashing process. Once we modified our phone from its stock settings we acknowledge the risk, and that risk is the one of the few factors the fuels the development of the rom/kernel community.
I've noticed several repacks of the GB radio:

MD5: 52DD83AA40E30186C9FBEFAFD1BAB534
For the record, i flashed mine with the MD5: EE2A824E51CB148A2256F93E30A3B9F9
right now im using das bamf 2.0-5 running on imoseyon_leanKernel_v2.5.4GBtest6
Im keeping a close watch on my temp running on "extreme settings" 1.4ghz extremely undervolt.
SetCPU profile set to minimum setting when temp goes more than 97F
I just called verizon 611. My phone is not bricked and still functioning properly, but i told the operator that my phone constantly reboots( I pretended that my phone was bricked), i was passed to higher level tier support and they said they will be sending a new phone to me and there will be an extra envelop where i need to put my old phone to return to them. The call only took me 10-15 minutes and I believe VZW is aware that Tbolt has this issue even if its GB or the stock froyo rom.
i reverted back last night but i will def be back once things are more stable.. i already miss it

Hi,
If it's a custom kernel, then you should be able to change the clock speed.
Go to the market and look for System Tuner or Setcpu.
Have a play.

My device was doing the same thing when I was using a stock battery. I changed out my battery to Anker now it never gets hot like that! My device was getting so hot it almost could not be touched! I was afraid I was going to melt my sd card! After I switched the battery out it solved the problem for me. I'm a heavy user too and its never done that since! Perhaps this might help you also? It's worth a try. It worked for me. I couldn't stand it getting so hot it really scared me. I'm so glad the issue is resolved now. Hope this helps you. I know it fixed my issue. Can't hurt to try. Best of luck to you!
It seems my issue was the stock battery. Perhaps the battery is your issue also? If so its a easy fix. Get a long lasting battery like Anker and you will be set.

No I never had a touchscreen problem just got really really hot so hot I could barely Touch the screen! At one point I thought it was going to melt my SD card, but the screen stayed responsive. It still really scared me.
You would think the longer lasting battery would get hotter but that's not the case . Thank God getting the new battery stopped that. I really think I had a faulty stock battery not only did it get burning hot it would only last about 2 1/2 hours! It was ridiculous! I'm so glad I got rid of that battery!

Issues with 2.2 update

Let me start off by saying this is my first Android phone that I've used that I actually haven't cared to root (and I started with a Nexus One).
I updated to 2.2 that ATT pushed out last week and while some things have proved, some things seem much worse.
1. Poorer battery life (drains much faster. Had 34% deplete in 3 hours and hardly used my phone)
2. Runs hot! For no apparent reason, my phone will get quite warm under the camera and the phone is simply just in my pocket getting e-mail or push notifications. Nothing crazy and no reason to get so hot (I can feel the heat through my jeans).
3. Multitasking is better but still sucks.
Anyone else having similar issues after updating?

Exact opposite on my device. Take it back to ATT, have them replace it (and tell them you don't want one with the 2.2 update) and then root, unlock, and ROM it.

Nope. My 2.2 update has really made this phone stellar. Though, I'm taking it back so I can root/unlock/rom. Since Cleanrom is based off the official release, I'll be going that rout.
Multitasking actually works, signal/clarity is quite a bit better, and my battery life is at least twice as good as it was before the update.
Methinks you need a factory reset.

Yep, I was having the same exact issues along with it never shutting up about wi-fi being available even though I told it not to tell me. Ended up resetting the phone to factory and it runs like a champ now.
I am constantly getting the wifi networks are available notification after the update, which I never got before. Quite a nuisance.
+1 to the Factory Reset. Many times this will clear up the problems that start happening right after an update.
It's easier and faster to go into the battery stats and see which app is misbehaving than it is to post on the forum here.

I'm having the same issue. Before the update I could go all day and have 35-50% battery left depending on usage. I updated to 2.20 before going on vacation. I don't have LTE at home but where I went on vacation was LTE areas. Battery drain was 10%+ an hour. I assumed it was LTE using more power. But everything I read said that LTE wasn't that bad. Only way I could stop the drain was to put in airplane mode. I got home Friday and drain is just as bad at home.
Anyway, I'm glad I found this thread.
I don't mind doing a factory reset if it solves the problem. Question is, does it solve the issue?
Thanks.
I will have to agree with some of you and say that the update was a big improvement on a great phone! I also think that when doing an OTA update the results are going to be hit or miss. The OTA worked great for me but I installed it on top of a new, clean and unmolested copy of 1.85. I'm willing to bet that just about everyone with new issues after doing the OTA will see an improvement after doing a factory reset. Having said that I personally would not waste time doing a factory reset, I would suggest flashing the ruu. If you're going to wipe your phone might as well get the best possible outcome for your time.

[Q] Are you kidding me?

Why are our sensations rebooting like crazy these days?At first, I thought it was just my phone, but soon realized everyone has the same issue.
No matter what ROM I install, my phone turns off randomly. Whats going on? Someone please help if they have a solution cos I am seriously beginning to hate my sensation.
It has been about a year since most sensations were bought...
That's 500 charging cycles and for some batteries that's enough
Take your battery out and see if it got swollen or some liquid oily marks are visible, or even tiny silvery cracks.. those indicate the battery is dying.

Could this reboots be caused by bad radio or firmware? I am getting them too, pretty often and the story is same - different roms, nothing changed.

Need more information. Are you overclocking too high? Undervolting? Flashing back and forth between kernels without reverting some of the files they change? Mixing 3.32/3.33 firmwares and ROMs? Matching radio/RIL combos? Restoring old data through Titanium Backup? There's a whole bunch of stuff that could cause reboots TBH.
Have you tried running stock (firmware, kernel, ROM, radio) for a few days to see if the reboots keep coming? If they do, then it's your hardware and you should look into warranty if you still have one. If not, then it's something you're doing during your setup process.
I've just been running rooted stock ICS lately and my phone has been incredibly stable. I did get some reboots last week, but it turns out they were caused by the recent update to Google Maps. I uninstalled the updates and the problem went away.
Had mine a year and never had reboot issues!
You know what I love most about this thread?
The complete lack of usefull information like logcats, last_kmsg, and other logs as well as kernel info, firmware info, UV status/OC status.
@OP get those things then we can help more
My guess is you've updated your gmaps. Anything that uses any oart of gmaps/location service is fubared on the last update.
Thanks guys for the replies. Well as suggested I have formated my sd card, super wiped (using ARHD superwipe script) and installed the viper 1.1 ROM.So far no reboots, and I will not update google maps.Have been changing ROM's like crazy, so this must have messed up my phone. I will post logcats and other info if I get reboots now.

Battery Problems on 2-month old HTC One X

Last night, I went to bed with the phone at about 65% battery life. When I woke up, it was completely dead. This is the 3rd time this has happened (in starting percentages ranging from 50-80%). I have already reinstalled everything before and even started fresh once to try to fix this issue, but have had no luck so far. Here's a screenshot of my power usage leading up to the death:
oi48 . tinypic . com / mvrtd2.jpg [remove spaces, I'm a new user so I can't attach links]
I've tried contacting HTC but have had no luck so far today. This has to be a hardware fault, right? I have to say, after moving from an iPhone for years to an android, I have been very happy with everything except this ridiculous battery life. It's easily 1/5th the capacity of my old iPhone 3g, which is something I'm trying to get used to.

I'm pretty sure AT&T doesn't care anymore since they have at best a 30 day return policy. It's an issue to take up with HTC and their warranty, now.
I had this happened like the day I got it, fresh out the box. No clue what had happened to it but make sure you don't have the wifi performance on in the wifi settings. I hadn't had the problem ever since I rooted and flashed a rom. Sorry I can't tell you what the problem was, maybe a kernel wake lock? But my battery has been acting better now.
