Need help, phone bricked, can't get into recovery - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Here is the chain of events:
I was running CleanROM 4.1. I did a full wipe, flashed a different ROM (KingCobra1X 1.2). Didn't like it, decided to flash back. When I tried installing CleanROM, the Aroma installer didn't actually do anything. It told me the ROM was installed but wasn't. I rebooted, it was still Xi40. Rebooted back into recovery, tried flashing again, same result. Could not mount SD card. Tried rebooting AGAIN, and that is when it went completely to hell. If I try to go into recovery through the bootloader menu, I get the HTC screen.
Everything I have tried has made things worse, does anyone have any idea how to help me fix this?

Have you tried running a RUU?

It's from Team Nocturnal Rom Xi40 its in the dev section been running it almost since first release the dev xsMagical is a super guy he answers questions and listens to requests. He is currently implementing coredroid tweaks to his Rom as we speak looks very cool and his Rom has always been fast and stable. Should check it out if you get a chance

I don't think he meant "what is Xi40?" I think he meant, how did Xi40 get on the OPs phone since it wasn't mentioned ine chain of events. I'm wondering the same.

No worries at all. You were just being helpful, and absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. And I might just be reading into the post wrong.

sounds like a bad download, check the MD5
I would download the ROM again.
I know that version 123,124 had issues (HOXL Rogers) here. The new release the 126 is working like a charm. TWRP is working great.

It's the same phone. HTC One XL (HOXL) is the same phone in North America. But I've noted that the ROM works and doesn't work on different models for whatever reason.

Some say twrp 2.2 is buggy with xi40. I use it with no problems. Reflash twrp using goomanager its in the playstore.

I have had several problems installing Nocturnal roms. The only one that didn't give me a hard time was the latest version ( special edition). Never had an issue with any other roms though.

If you're trying to download directly to the phone, that could be the issue. We have also had some server issues, but those should be corrected.
My HOX has been Nocturnal'd. Has yours? Why not?

My Findings With TWRP

Well I was using Clockwork Mod. Then I foolishly Installed Clean Rom 4.5 final while using clockwork mod..got a soft brick -:splash screen would not boot...no access to the recovery...could not flash a recovery...but access to boot-loader :-...
Got the bricked sorted out and decided to move to TWRP..That didn't go well at all
Issues found after flash
1: Google contacts would not sync at all...no matter Rom I used
2: My dialer crashed...no matter Rom I used
Moved back to clockwork and all issues was solved
This Is only my observation and It may be different to others

If you have nothing good to say its best you keep your rear shut..if you don't agree why comment..
No one here can prove that my issue wasn't caused by TWRP..what I do know is that when I used TWRP I had those issues then I went back to CWM and It didn't.
In all rom installation I did full system wipe..and the Issue only happened with TWRP
A recovery causing rom issue ? First one i hear hey reflash the same rom whit twrp and let us know how it goes smarty..

Did it more than once and it didn't happen with cmw and yes a recovery can cause a rom issue
way back in the htc desire days certain rims could not be flash using certain recoveries because it caused issues...some users found that with a certain recovery the rom was more stable than the other
Just beware flashing something with an aroma installer with cwm. Bad mojo.
Lol make your OP clear you have flashed a rom whit a recovery not recommended FOR the rom ...
You didn't know it so you post this ..
I guess all you had to do on the rom thread is either read OP clearfully or ask of it is ok to flash whit twrp

yes it happened to me too google contacts sync and dialer crash and yes i found that twrp is the culprit of not clearing the data correctly.onle fix i found is switching recovery to cwm, clear the data, switch back to twrp and install a new rom and worked for me.
I've been using TWRP since the beginning on multiple One X's and never have had a problem.
Maybe OP didnt wipe correctly..

i love it, being able to mount usb storage from recovery is convenient and important (saved me from having to lock bl, then flashing stock)

As I said the soft brick was because I used the wrong recovery..that wasn't the issue..I already sorted that out..
my phone was stock..I rooted then flash TWRP then started flashing roms and I noticed the issue after that..I wasn't asking for help on this thread
all I was doing was letting people know what was happening to me while i was using that recovery..If xda belongs to the guys that never made a mistake while using a phone and don't want no one else to post then i wont..but all I was simply doing was letting people know what brought me to that point

thank you for pointing that out...maybe someone else might start having issues and think the problem is the phone then they will see TWRP was the culprit ....this is part of what XDA is about

Some people were made perfect and never made a mistake..they can do any and or everything so since there is nothing else to do with the life that they have they will sit and read a post and would be quick to make a judgment or start calling names..I admitted I made a mistake and I fixed it..then I found an issue while using TWRP only to point it out...The person that made the recovery may see an issue in the recovery that could be affecting certain phones and fix it..or someone else might had a similar issue and just give some input about it..
most of us are here because we like tweaking what we have and in doing so some make mistakes and others learn from it..its what XDA is about
Google contacts and dialer being messed up are known issues with CWM. They persist even after flashing other ROMs. It was likely a residual issue from CWM, not TWRP.

I AM bootloader unlocked and rooted, but the OTA installed...now what?

Forgive me..I tried searching but couldn't find anything. I was previously rooted and bootloaded unlocked, then my phone constantly was asking to do the ATT update. Eventually it forced me to do it and now I don't have root. Is there anything I can do? Currently I really only need root to use wifi tethering, although I would like to be able to be rooted and unlocked to install new ROMs in the future.
Right now there is NO root exploit for the new update. Your gonna have to kick back and relax. Sorry Honestly you should have flashed a custom Rom. That would of prevented your phone forcing itself to update.

If the op still has the unlock code he can use it to unlock it and flash a custom recovery and ROM
Although kernels will need to be flashed in fastboot

100% this
If you EVER unlocked, you still can. Just unlock BL again, install recovery, push root, or just install another ROM.
Cool. Thanks people.
I don't really feel like there is a completely stable rom right now which is why I never flashed one in the first place. Unfortunately when I was getting the OTA update notice I must have some how hit accept, then it was too late and I couldn't cancel it in the middle. Now I'm updated and stuck.
I'll try to do the unlock again but I'm not sure what you mean but "push root".
edit: the bootloader unlock did work. I have twrp recovery new. Last step is to root. Thanks for the help.
Completely stable Rom? Wow, there are plenty ... Wcx roms are 100% stable and his sense 4.1 rom is not only 100% stable but has all the mods and tweaks built in, all built none ported And honestly there is none faster ....

Did I do something?

I was running Venom ROM ICS and wanted to try out the JB version so I download it and it boots up and naturally, I start to play around. I installed titanium backup again to get my things back and it tells me I have no root. I say whaaaaa!? I then download a rootchecker app from the store and it confirms I have no root. How the world did that happen?
I panicked and booted into recovery and restored the backup I made before flashing the ROM. Now I can get back into fastboot and recovery but when I try to boot up it is a black screen. Should I RUU and start all over or am I salvageable?

[Solved]

Ok, so for some reason I can't get hot reboot to work on any rom anymore. I've tried a couple sense roms, and an aosp rom. I'm currently back on viper 3.2.8.
Every time the shell restarts, it gets stuck at the boot animation. I'll attach a logcat with all the relevant info. BTW, this just started happening right after I ruu'd for 4.2 roms. Also I can flash another rom and get another logcat if it'll help. Not really an issue, just weird..
Any reply is appreciated, thanks.
