Refurbished Thunderbolt not charging fully - Thunderbolt General

I received a refurbished thunderbolt after my last one had some screen failures. This phone does not seem to charge fully. I will leave it. Charging for 10 hours and it only gets to 80%. My question is can this be fixed with software? I haven't rooted this phone yet and don't want to if this can't be fixed. I could just get another replacement.
Thanks

Try doing a factory reset. If that doesn't work, install a custom recovery and wipe the battery stats. If the problem still persists, it's probably your battery and you might as well get a replacement!

I should mention that I did try a different battery with a similar result. It only charged to about 40%. I try the others and see what happens.

Send it back get another try again I had one that wouldn't charge past 68%

I ended up having to send mine back in about 5 months ago for a replacement because it would never fully charge, and only went to 80%. First they sent a new battery, then a new phone when that wouldn't work. Nothing else I tried(new ROM, wiping battery stats) would fix it. Good luck!

Batt calibrater
Try Battery calibration app. I used it on both my stock TB batt, and rezound batt with very good results for both. It deletes a batt info sys file and encourages you to fully charge then almost fully deplete the batt. Seemed to really help both my batts.

Battery charge issues

Hello all. I had an issue w/ my proximity sensor so I got an AE. It was defective, so I got ANOTHER AE.
Since I owned my EVO I always get extended batteries. I bought a 2750mah and it worked great. Then it started charging slowly.
I got giftcards to Best buy for my birthday so I got a new on there. (Sedio 3400 I believe)
Now when I try to charge my phone, it will literally take 2 hrs or so to get 15-20% charged.
I use my handset heavily, but w/ my EVO it was like 2hrs = a full charge and all day heavy use got me to a minimum of 25%.
I know LTE is to blame for a little battery drain, but any ideas? Full charge to 30% in like 5 hrs sometimes. Should I order another AE?
I'm on stlck w/ the most current software btw. Thanks.

Are you using an original stock charger? Are u charging through PC?
Battery could be defective..
I was thinking if he was rooted he needed to do battery calibration since he swtiched from stock to extended battery. Clear the stats and start over fresh. Maybe I am wrong, we'll see when we answers when or if he is rooted.

I am stock.
I switch between the HTC charger that came with it and several other after market cables/usb wall adapters.
I try to use plug in outlets as I know the "trickle" method takes forever.
I'm on my 2nd extended battery.

I had alot of issues with charging my Incredible to the point where my phone took 5 hours to charge and 1 hour to drain. No simple answer here but if you root your phone many options exist to fix this battery issue. Recal the battery would be the first option. If you are able Root try that and come back and report.

Swapping out batteries

For Christmas I got a 3500mAh extended battery for my g2x. After I depleted the charge that came on it and gave it a full charge I went ahead and deleted the batterystats file. That first full charge seemed pretty meager and it wasn't until the next full charge did I get the life I expected. I figured it was due to the calibration. Now my question is when I switch back to the stock battery from time to time am I going to get funky readings? Do I have to calibrate each time I switch? And if so, will doing this always give me strange readings/short life by never allowing an accurate and complete batterystat file to build?

Since they are different mAh I would recalibrate. I also recalibrate when I change Roms.
OK and what about the other questions?

Get Battery Manager Widget Pro from the marketplace. It lets you swap batterystats.bin files when you change batteries so you can keep your calibrations.
Would that be Battery Monitor Widget Pro?

Where did you buy the battery from?

Got it for Christmas. It was bought from Amazon for about 15 dollars that's all I know. But it works like a charm!

Battery issues anyone?

Had my baby for a little over a year and a half, been nothing but a great phone in that time. This is where the problem starts... I'll be using it like normal, texting and surfing, and will have 98% battery, the phone will shut down, and when it decides to start back up, I will have 14% battery or less.... But it will go up if I leave it alone..... I've tried wiping the battery stats, even charging with the phone off, nothing is working. I will attach screenshots so you can see what's up.

Your battery is bad. Same thing happened to me, I recommend just buying a new OEM battery from a reputable dealer on Amazon, that's what I did. Try setting it down on a table and push on one side and if it rocks back and forth its bad. Or you can just look at it and see its swollen
Mine did that and it was just a bad battery. If you take the battery out and place it on a flat surface you may notice that it rocks left and right. If it rocks a lot or if you feel the middle and it feels swollen it may be symptoms of a bad battery.

Same thing has been happening to me for the past two days. I just took out my battery and sure enough it is swollen. Thanks for input!
edit: Is it dangerous to keep using it like this for the next few days until the new battery comes in?

It is dangerous because battery acid can get on you and cause sever skin irritation. You can continue like this for 1 to 2 days MAX until you get your new battery. Try not to use it because using it more will cause it to swell more, DUH try to only use it for emergencies and then once you get the new battery clean the terminals and you'll be good to go
I used mine got a while like that because i didn't know it was the battery lol

Thank you all, I wasn't sure what it was cause I can still pull over a day of battery life when it wants to lol. Looks like I'm on the hunt for a new one

I'm curious about charging habits of the people who have bad batteries. I have had my phone since the day it came out and my battery is still fine. I never let it get below 30% unless I'm testing a new ROM. Killing lithium ion batteries is really bad for them. So how many of you drain it all the way on a regular basis?
I'm still using my old vibrant battery (at times). I don't think that it's as strong as the spare that I purchased a few months ago, but, is on par with the 18 month old battery that came with the phone. I zap them all the way down a lot of the time (then swap to a fully charged one). I do(try) to recharge to full before use though.
Mine does it but only when I'm using wifi or data could that still be a bad battery

I run mine down to 1 percent on a daily basis. Never let it die though. I was under the impression that if you let it drain to zero you're asking for trouble. I could easily change my ways though.

Hechoen.......I use mine till under 10% or so and then full charge it. Been doing that over a year now. My wife however plugs hers in off and on throughout the day without letting it full charge all at once and she has a bad battery....

Shallow discharge cycles are generally accepted to be better for Li-ion batteries than deep ones.

That is probably a bad idea. I would try to plug it in around 15-20% with 20% being the best time. According to the batteryuniversity website 20-80% is ideal for li-ion batteries because it keeps the heat down. Charging from less than 15% creates heat because that is a low level and takes a bit longer to charge from therefore exposes the battery to more heat. A good charger and battery will shut off the charger once it hits 100% and only allow for a trickle charge if the battery drops below 100%. But I have seen my phone get hotter from about 85% to 100% if Im using it ie: plugged in and streaming music or using navigation.

HTC Sensation isn't charging fully

Hey,
I have had an HTC sensation for about a year, just recently it has started to not fully charge even when plugged in over night. It happens on both my phone and my wife's, I have tried flashing different roms and wiping battery stats with no success. I will plug the phone in most nights about 11 P.M. and get up about 6 A.M and it only has about 82% charge. I have tried several different charges as well.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
Out of curiosity, have you tried switching to another battery to see if it's the battery or the device it's self? If you put a new battery in and the problem still persists then it's likely a problem with the device. But I would check to make sure it's not the batteries going bad. Strange both devices are doing same thing!
Sent from my HTC Sensation
It does indeed sound like the battery, maybe you can try your wife's battery in your phone?
Because both devices are doing same thing I would NOT use wife's battery to test. I'd get a new one for the two of you. Hopefully it will solve the issue. Are you both still using stock battery? You might want to give anker a try. It's a extended battery and under 20 dollars! I'm really hoping this will solve the issue. Let us know keep us posted. Best wishes!
Sent from my HTC Sensation
Yes we are both still using stock batteries. Thanks! After your initial post I found 2 Ankers on amazon for $30 so I am going to try that, I will post my results when I receive them a few days from now. What was so strange was that it went from charging to full in 2 to 3 hours to 82% in 7 hours.
It was the battery, a cell had gone bad. I purchased the Anker batteries (1900) and it charges in about an hour and a half and lasts 16 hours on full use, plus I sit in an office where it searches for 4g all day if I allow it. Over all it was a vast improvement and all I had was a bad battery.
Thanks for your help
So glad you got it fixed!

Battery dies at ~70%... Hardware issue??

Good morning everybody.
So i picked up this photon q off of craigslist for a decent price. I love the phone. Everything about it is awesome. But for some reason around 70-80% battery off a full charge, the phone acts as if it has a completly dead battery. It pops up android system shutting down, and says it has 0% and dies. However, immediately after i can turn the phone back on. Once it powers up, itll say i still have a mostly full battery 75% for instance... then the same thing will happen. Over and over until i charge it back up to 100% then it will die at about 3/4 battery again.
Not really sure if i should look into repair, replacement, or what. The phones totally stock no mods or roms yet so...
Any advice will be appreciated! Thanks!

Lolololol definitely an issue. I'd look into changing out the battery.
Not sure if you can file a repairment claim since you got it off CL.
