I have been trying to boot into recovery mode so I can upgrade from the CleanRom 3.0 to 4.1.. the problem is I get a black screen with a sync icon then after a few seconds a red exclamation point icon, waiting a minute or two it just reboots.
I disabled fast boot in options. Any other ideas? I'm pretty nooby when it comes to Android phones coming from an iPhone.
Why would you disable fast boot?
And sounds like you need to flash TWRP again.
He needs to get into recovery first. I've never heard of this problem with an exclamation point though hmm. Try using adb?

Fastboot like the phone actually booting, it allows the phone to shut all then way off instead a hibernating.
Also you could use Goo Manager to install recovery script again and see if that helps.

Connect it to a PC and run this adb command from wherever you have adb installed:
adb reboot recovery
If that still doesnt work then install the goo.im app from the play store and install TWRP to see if a reinstallation helps.
Thanks guys, I first tried the adb reboot recovery command, when that failed the Goo Manager worked perfectly. Running CleanROM 4.1 now

Hi
I installed Cyanogenmod 7 and with it i added and Nscollab and I decided to change it.
Now the problem is that everytime i try to get into recovery from phone and from rom manager it displays the startup google logo and it stucks there.
iv'e heard that you can flash rom from computer. if anyone knows about program or any solution Please help me
Try to flash newest recovery form ROM manager. Sometimes it will not stay there after first flash, so try couple of times. If not, there IS the way to flash *img files from fastboot via PC. Google fastboot with other keywords, and there should be plenty of guides to do that ...
But first method should work just fine ...
Fastboot flash recovery

yessir, if rom manager doesnt work then go:
fastboot flash recovery iLikePie.img
IN FASTBOOT MODE
and you should be good!
i tried that, i said by phone(via fastboot) and it just leads me nowhere, it comes back to same menu only and reboot and power-off works :\
What exactly did u try? Go here and try to flash it...
i cant get into the recovery. via the fastboot and via rom manager
when i tried to flash with the fastboot, i pressed on the recovery button and it shows the google startup logo, returns to the menu and it leads me nowhere.
when i tried to flash with rom manager, it reboots, and leads me to the startup google logo and stuck there. what im trying to say is that i dont have access to recovery menu (the backup, install from zip file etc).

Try reflashing recovery from rom manager. It takes a few try for it to stick. When rom manager says it flashed. Reboot recovery from within rom manager. And keep trying till it sticks. Shouldn't take more than 3times

I was just about to try updating from NScollab 1.0.39 to 1.0.40 and for some reason my nexus s refuses to boot into recovery. It doesn't seem to exist anymore. Im not sure if it is related or not but my phone became very laggy after my first failed attempt to boot into recovery. I tried fixing user permissions and rebooting many many times but it doesn't seem to help.
What does it do when u try to boot into recovery?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
It doesnt do anything. It just reboots into the bootloader.
Thank you for the quick reply
edit:
i tried flashing recovery again through rom manager and now whenever i try to boot into recovery it just hangs at the google logo with the unlocked padlock.
Hmmm
Do me a quick favor.
go here:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Ne...de#Installing_the_ClockworkMod_Recovery_Image
and download the 4.0.0.2 recovery image and save it to some directory on ur computer
then follow these steps:
1. Open up command prompt/terminal and plug in phone to computer
2. Type "adb reboot bootloader"
3. It will take you to fastboot mode. Now type "fastboot erase recovery"
4. Then type fastboot "flash recovery ____.img"
( ____ is the name of the recovery img file)
5. Now it will flash and once it says "OKAY" then scroll down using volume down into recovery and see what happens
plz get back to me bout this!
IT WORKS! It went into recovery! Thank you so so much! Is there anything else I should do or am i set to go?

Hey guys, so I rooted the phone, unlocked bootloader, and try to install the twrp 2.2 on my phone, but i still cant boot into it from the hboot...it just reboots over and over until i turn it off.
I've installed twrp both from the ap and manually by doing fastboot recovery openrecovery-twrp etc etc
Fastboot in the settings is disabled.
I want to ultimately install clearrom4.1 on it and call it a day.
Any ideas? Cheers.

Try installing it from GooManager https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zMHVwLmdvb21hbmFnZXIiXQ..
Open the app, hit menu and install the open recovery from there. Then boot while holding Power + Vol Down (or adb reboot recovery)
Edit: I'm stupid and can't read. I didn't notice that you already installed using the app...Try it again though and then adb reboot recovery to see if you can get there. Once you install a custom rom there should be an extended power menu where you can boot into recovery directly.
I'm sure you did but just asking, on goo manager, did you install " open recovery script" ?
AT&T OneX twrp2.2 CleanROM4.1SE
In power settings turn off fastboot. The turn off phone and boot into hboot.

Hi, hope Im not double posting or anything, but I havent found a solution to my problems yet.
I recently purchased Nexus S 4G, thinking it was working, but it is not. It powers up, but doesn't get to the main system. It sticks on the Nexus colorful flashing things and wont get past that. Sometimes it sticks on the Google logo. Is there anything I can check, or somehow restore it or something to get it to boot up? I can also get to the fast boot menu, but when I get there, and try recovery, it just gives me the sad dead Android with his tummy open with a red triangle.

If you can get into fastboot just flash CWM http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager and SU http://androidsu.com/superuser/
Put SU on phone SD card
Reboot phone into bootloader mode
Open a command prompt and go to the folder in where CWM is
Now execute this fastboot command to flash the CWM recovery. Change the filename to the file you have downloaded.
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.1.0-crespo4g.img
Now go to recovery.
There, using the options, navigate to the install the superuser zip file
Reboot.
ok so ive had my tf101 rooted since i got the thing over a year and a half ago, i was running the megatron rom which was cm9 based and everything was good. today i tried to flash Eos4 and i got F%$ked out the a$$. so i did my standard procedure which was put the rom and gapps package on my device and then i wiped everything (after making a nandroid) and flash the rom along with its gapps. then i went to reboot it then i got shot back into recovery...so i was like wtf. i then found a way where if i hold the power and volume down for about 10 seconds i could cold boot android and once booted fix this problem with my recovery. unfortunately when i go to boot into android my device just bootloops on the boot animation ( ive left for about ten mins just to make sure) then i was like oh well ill just restore my nandroid, but for some reason clockwork mod touch wont let me use my microsd card, and its also not letting me restore from the backup i made earlier, it says files not found. i tried to connect it to my pc so i could just factory reflash it but unfortunately it will not be picked up by my pc through adb or apx.
so here is my main issue,
i just need to boot into android one time successfully so i can change the location of some ROM files and fix this stupid recovery bull****.
or if i could some how factory reset the tablet completely then that would be fine too
or or i could flash a different recovery that actually worked (currently on CWM 5.8.3.4 installed from rom manager which i realize now to be a huge mistake)
and i've tried ever tool on this forum as well and nothing works because it cannot pick up my device.
*** one other side note i am running windows 8 pro 32bit through Vmware (if this can be problematic)
thanks for any help in advance
To fix this, you will need to get your tablet recognized by your computer via ADB (in recovery) or APX mode.
You could have a bad cable, or it could be the VM causing the detection issues.
Is there a way you can connect it to a computer running Windows natively?
Does your computer make the new hardware sound when connecting?
Once you get it detected via one method or the other, here are my suggestions:
APX - Use the Naked Driver 0.72 and replace whatever driver is being used. Then use EasyFlasher to install TWRP 2.2.1.4 (it blows CWM away, and can read internal AND external memory)
ADB - use the Naked Driver 0.72 and replace whatever driver is being used. Then download the TWRP 2.3.2.3 blob from the TWRP project: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/tf101
Call the downloaded file TWRP.blob.
Then run the following from your computer via ADB:
Code:
adb push TWRP.blob /sdcard/
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/TWRP.blob of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4
reboot
Make sure it is a normal reboot to complete the recovery. Then reboot to recovery and you should be able to see the external card (so long as it is formatted for FAT32).
Thanks for the quick response and it probably is because I am using vmware... Unfortunately I don't have access to a windows machine right now. But I will definitely try to find one

** edit I'm assuming it got stuck boot the apps because now a my directories seem F&#cked up too... It now goes sdcard/0/0/0/(everthing else)
That's because your recovery is not compatible with 4.2.1. TWRP recovery 2.3.2.3 or 2.3.3.x should be fine as federuco said, to fix the sdcard/0/0/... issue.
For the stuck at apps thing, usually it's because you didn't wipe everything when changing rom. Make sure to do a full reset, wipe cache dalvik and system.

Use the Naked Drivers.
Let me find the link to the thread....
Here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514942
Grab the driver pack in the first thread, update the device using the APX driver when in APX mode.
Then you should be good to go. I have used EasyFlasher via APX with great success.

Put your device in APX mode. To do so, make sure it's completely powered off (hold the power button 10 seconds), then hold down volume up + power for about 5 seconds. Do that while it's connected through USB. The screen will remain black so you won't see anything on the device, but you will hear a new device found in windows. Go in your device manager and look for either "unkown device" or "NVIDIA boot-recovery driver for mobile devices". If you see the nvidia one, right click and delete it; it should be come unknown. Right click the unknown device, install driver... navigate to where you extracted the naked drivers, and install.
Then use easyflasher.
