Any Good Rom Suggestions? - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Been Looking around xda for some good roms, I have tried about 4 now, but I would like to know what you all use! I am taking any suggestions on any rom, any stage of development. Anything accepted! Any suggestions?
(I would Like to find a working ICS rom or WP7 rom, But I would enjoy finding others!)
Thanks!

ICS roms are still a work in progress but you're more than welcome to try some of the beta and pre-beta releases that are out there. Also, strapped has posted a guide to using boot manager if you want to try a couple different ones out on the fly. You'll have to read through his thread to see which ones are confirmed to work...
Personally i've been running Supreme Sense since rooting, although i just got a tester shift and will be flashing a few other roms soon. It's kinda pick what you prefer ...

I'm a minimalist, so I love AOSP (ics now, gb doesnt cut it for me anymore lol), and CM ROMS.
Never really cared for sense roms, except for sense 4.
But yeah, right now Im using Deck's CM9 build, and loving it.

Well sixxt9 said i had some instructions on how to use boot manager, and i have also laid out some known ROMS to work with that app, and you could flash multiple ROMS to your sdcard to try them. Its a sticky in the theme and app section. And i posted it so users like you could try other ROMS on the fly.
There is also the nandroid approach where you just make a nand and start flashing, if you dont like any ROM you have chosen then just restore the backup and your right back to whre you started.
Most users needs are different so what works for one or whats stable for one might not be stable for someone else.

newSENSE or Supreme Sense of you want a Sense ROM, I would go with UKE if you want an AOSP, ICS is still a work in progress. If you can live without Bluetooth and MMS then Deck's ICS ROM is great, if not go with one of the others off you haven't tried them. It's all about your preferences and what you want, so my suggestion is to try them all.

Firstly, I'd like to say thank you to this community for providing excellent support and tweaking all updates. You guys all are amazing at what you do.
Now, my Android is currently hosting: Kushdeck's ics-deck-shift, I am running pb21, not the most recent rendition:
[ROM][ICS][4.0.3][3-19-12][WIP] ics-deck-shift [pre-beta4]
I also run it with Sparksco's Kernel update and all of the patches made to quasi-fix bluetooth and the FC on the Camcorder.
I'm not running the most recent as I found it was a bit more buggy than I needed as I'd like stability over coolness.
ThoughICS is pretty damn cool already (actually makes me proud to be a droid over an iPhone).
The camcorder still does not work, but you can use a 3rd party application. I generally will use Ustream in recording and 4g does not work, but where I am at it is negligible. Also running in SCARY mode from the Scary Ghoul added input with Sparksco, it does not seem to work, so I leave it on Smartass. There are a few other minor bugs with the power button's and an occasional blackout, but I love Ice Cream Sandwich so much I can bare with it until these things are fixed.
If I were to use any other mod, I'd stick with CM7 with Scary Ghoul Kernel and install the recent gapps. Then use your choice of Launcher (Last I was using was an ice cream knockoff...with LauncherPro.
GO Launcher is pretty cool, but it has some lagging issues.
Thanks everyone!!!

Awesome thanks for the input! A note on scary governor what do you mean by it doesn't work? Scary governor runs in conjunction with the smartass governor and I had to use a different smartass governor than what was in the older cm7 based kernel.

Well, i'ts interesting. Every time I run it in Scary mode, the phone will lag out and words will disappear, and does not seem to run so smoothly as it used to in CM7. But when I run it as Smartass, it seems to work fine and run seemlessly on Kushdeck's CM9.

Aw yeah I did notice the graphical glitches in decks roms. I think it's more of a ROM issue than anything because I'm running the miui ics right now and I don't have that issue anymore. Running miui until aokp drops.

I don't want to be a downer or anything but this may be over-saturating this section with information already covered elsewhere... It's not really anything in development per this thread unless you plan to update the op with flashing procedures and changelogs... even then it's not a dev thread... it's a tracking thread...

I mean, mr2324jgf is right. The AOSP ROM isn't even available yet and the OP has absolutely nothing to do with the development of it. He knows just as much as the rest of us at this point. Which is that there is a ROM in the works, which we still have to wait for. If we have to wait for a ROM we might as well continue to wait for CM7.
I agree with mr2324jgf that this thread is useless.

AOSP rom is not up yet, but MIUI rom is.
I will add changelogs for each one of them, to keep the XDA community informed on the work done by the great dev.
But if you guys dont like it - I will ask the mods to remove the thread.
If you are gonna keep up with it to post updates, changelogs, links etc. then go for it. I just think the thread is a bit premature at this point but what's done is done.
You guys are too uptight keep this thread up its useful

The thing that will make my ass hit the ceiling is if we manage to get the Wifi calling to work. I tried with faux kernel and installed the wifi calling patch from xboarder - but its a no-go. I was thinking that the problem is with the kernel, but I guess I was wrong.
Would be great if someone makes that badboy work with wifi calling, so I can get to use it

[ROM]Kang_Clam(KANG) CM7 to AOSP revert {2.3.7}

First and foremost...Anything you read or flash from here I am not responsible for. If your kitten dies tomorrow or your phone eats your face in your sleep it is not my problem. You should have fed them better. If your phone adjusts itself to paperweight mode, well it was a long time coming for that rock to give up. It is not my fault. You shouldn't have dug the root out from under that rock.
I named this project Kang Clam, simply because to me it is a learning experience so everything is just opening up to me. A clam opens slowly in unfamiliar territory and that is the same as what is going for me. I am still trying to figure it out.
I am by no means a developer. This is just a project I started as a learning experience. The main reason I started this is because there is no way to make an AOSP rom off of the OTA files we where given from LG and NVIDIA. So I decided for a learning curve to work from known working CM7.2 files back to AOSP.
Updates will not be fast nor steady, because like I said I am still learning. I will continue to better the rom but at my own pace. Accept that or do not flash it and do not ***** if there is a problem. BUT if you do find a problem I do not mention please report it so I can trouble shoot it.
So, I decided to make a project similar to faux's but I don't know much. So I decided to reverse engineer cm7 code to revert it to AOSP. Progress will be slow because I am doing this for the simple fact of learning. But, what I have done so far is really stable so I decided to release it.
I will not accept requests simply because what i am doing is for my benefit and to learn. So basically this is my rom for me to update as I will. My sole intentions is to revert cm7 code back to aosp or as close as i can get it. The only reason I am releasing it is because, I myself like AOSP and everything that comes with it. And because I want to learn the just of what it takes to make it work. I do realize that most of what it takes to work comes with patches from Code Aurora Forums and numerous other places. And will remove most CM functions.
But, regardless this is my own personal project to revert things back to AOSP. I will work off of the same base as I have been using, because everything is working. If something gets broken then I will imply the patches necessary to fix it.
I fully intend to remove alot of cm7 functions. Including theme chooser, cm settings and many other cm7 features. Simply because i am learning and want to see if i can make it work without all that. I want to revert cm7 to AOSP so that is what I push towards, if it gets removed and you dont like it then flash an old version or flash cm7!
This does not include ANY google apps so you must flash the latest version of google apps the same as you would do with any CyanogenMod ROM!
But as of right now most of all of the cm7 features are still working.
What I have done so far:
Reverted System UI to AOSP
Reverted MOST apps to AOSP
Added Fugu Tweaks 4.0
Added some build.prop and init.d tweaks
Incorporated Morfic's latest and greatest T15 kernel
And a few other framework and system tweaks and reverts. I am no pro so bare with me. Updates will be slow, if you dont like it then move on to another rom...
Installation Instructions:
1.) Reboot into CWM Recovery
2.) Wipe data/factory reset
3.) Go to advanced>Wipe dalvik cache
4.) Go to mounts and format /system
5.) Install the desired ROM
6.) Reboot to enable WiFi
7.) Reboot to recovery and install gapps.
THERE IS NO GOOGLE APPS INSTALLED IN THIS ROM YOU MUST INSTALL GAPPS LIKE ANY CM7 [email protected]
There is add-ons. That I will be posting as well, for those who may want them. If I revert, I will also try to make an add on package to make things work, if I cant then oh well. Everything comes as is.
Thanks and credits to:
Morfic for his amazing kernel
Romanbb and Whitehawkx for everything I have learned and that they have helped me with in my times of distress
Faux123 for his original work of this project. I use it as a base.
The entire CyanogenMod team for their work
Code Aurora Forums for their work and patches.

I had wondered about that myself. Since i do not get 3g anywheres on any rom for my g2x. Only 4g thats still super slow (same speeds as using edge). Could be my area because their signal sucks around here. It seems like it treats all hspa as 4g icon wise. But not sure. I will look into more in the morning.

I personally think this ROM is much better than Eagleblood (HDMI works fine so far). However, cache partition should increase from 50MB to 100MB to avoid frustration (I got "insufficient storage" error when I tried to install 3 Angry Birds plus Opera Mobile and I have to use Root Explorer to delete these files there). Other than that, it works pretty well.
Awesome ROM. Found one bug. In CyanogenMod Settings, Interface Status bar tweeks doesn't work. Even after you make changes like battery percentage, it doesnt save the changes.

Oh ok. Thanks. Request: can you leave the battery percentage or somehow have it in the rom?
Very smooth ROM and the animations are awesome. Better battery life than EB 2.3.7 too.

[Discussion]GB, How many?

How many of you guys are still using a GB ROM?
Ive played around with a few ICS ROMs but my phone and I are not ready to make the switch.
I'm running Oxygen 2.3.1 latest Franco build for GB, stock CPU settings.
Single screen launcher. I just love it and how fluid it is and how everything corectly works.
Maybe once OTA and source is out Ill consider the switch.

Lol you'll consider the switch? Why would anyone stay on GB once source is out when nobody will develop for it again

I'm on CM7 newest nightly. Asop's ics is great but my battery Sucked fierce.
Follow the leader @corythug
Using stock Gingerbread, right now. The ICS ROM that I used didn't have the stability or battery-life that I wanted.
Though the re-install of GB isn't working so great at the moment.

Still using the latest MIUI. The biggest issue stopping me from moving to ICS is the volume rocker affecting the ringer volume instead of media volume. From what I've seen it's a core ICS issue so it might not be fixed until the official ICS release.
My phone might never see GB again

Using stock GB tried aosp ics rom very nice and smooth hardly any lag main problem was most apps were ready for ics

Using Cm7 until ICS officially releases.
Sent from my bathroom, with toilet paper.
I went back to stock GB. Stock runs just fine for me. The ICS roms had lag that I just didn't appreciate.

I tried to go back to stock after playing with a few ICS roms but I came back to aosp's oICS rom because the experience is so much better in ICS in my opinion. The keyboard alone is worth the switch to me.
GB was a great update, though, and if you're happy with your setup I can totally understand why you would stick with it.

Agreed. The ICS experience is just so much better regardless of the lag here and there.
Noteable things over Gingerbread:
- Better Keyboard (In terms of autocorrect)
- New Speech to Text input!
- Better Email/Gmail apps
- Better Messaging App
- Better Calendar Widget
- Consistent UI through the Google Apps
- Sweet launcher (no need to look for a custom launcher ...)
- Browser uses a tiling rendering method rather than rending the whole page at once. Browsing is faster on ICS than GB ...
- And the list continues ...
GB is fast but I have to do a lot of tweaking, new keyboards, new launchers, apps etc. But on ICS, I am almost happy with everything as is.
The only thing I miss are the power widgets from CM7 ... I know the Kangs have a few of them, but not the ones I want.

Me. Will use ICS when all the functions work properly and aren't using dodgy patches. And the battery life and performance will be similar. Until then, my customized GB setup is just perfect.
I'm still running the stock Gingerbread 2.3.6 ROM on my I9020T. I have no interest in all these hack crackerjack Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs. I'm perfectly happy to wait for Google to release the official ROM.

My Opinion
- I don't like stock keyboards over swype.
- I never use speech to text as I type faster.
- I do agree on gmail I love the new gmail application.
- GoSMS ftfw
- Never use calendar's; don't care about time.
- I do like consistent UI but I hate the appearence of this one. I've had to metamorph the hell out of it.
- I still use custom launchers as they have more features. One thing I really hate about ice cream is the 'Multitasking'. I hated it in honeycomb and I hate it here.
- I prefer Miren.
Ice cream is a great update. When the lag is gone and there is more tweaking and modifying that can be done, CM9 w/ theme chooser, I'll definitely return to it.
Forget about it... switched back to GB for the week I was in Hawaii to get 4g that was it. v26 of aosp's ICS is great on my battery life and the small lag I can live with used to it on some GB roms too. Some nuisances with ICS but not enough to go back to GB... it's still alpha so I can't complain. alpha builds of any rom are buggy, but I use ICS as a daily driver... patiently waiting til OTA to fix all the current errors.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
still using gb after trying those alpha ics roms
ics is awesome, but a stock one is what i need
I have used all the ICS roms out there, they are all really great, hats off to the devs. But i am waiting for the ota for tjat polished feel of ICS.
I know the current ics roms are smooth, but not as much as i like. Coz maybe they dont have the kernel of ics rite now, so guess i ll wait for the ota
Currently on galnet miui, super smooth...

[ROM] OXY-LITE [58 Mb] LIGHTEST ROM EVER! [FINAL RELEASE]

Okay, here goes:
I've been playing awhile with hrkfdn great ported Oxygen ROM.
It's already light and fast! All hail goes to original dev and all those big guys!
So I made a few alterations -mods, if you prefer. In fact, I pushed this ROM even further, I just got to know how light and how fast a ROM can be, while still wanted it to be good looking. Remove some, added some, playing with various tweaks here and there -can't really recall everything.
Tried hard not to reach 60 MB, it's fun for me to know that I'm using a very light ROM. So here it is, a 58 Mb ROM for our DHD, that's way way smaller than the usual Sense ROMs and still half of CM and MIUI ROMs. There's plenty of room for our OWN creativity
Who would want a ROM such as this? Those who are taking a break from all the complexity of Sense, those who prefer clean & pure android experience, those who seek a fast and solid yet uncluttered base for hard-core gaming, and above all: those who dare to begin a personal endeavor into the endless sea of the Droid Unknown.
-This ROM is based on the earlier version of hrkfdn's ported Oxygen. If you prefer to taste the originals, do visit the original thread.
-The FM Radio is not functional on Oxygen builds. However, I've been using this ROM for everyday use, and no biggies that prevent me from using my DHD the way it should be used, but let me know if there's something that really wrong, I might know the way around.
-I'm no dev and this is not really a 'new' ROM, but I do love to share.. If this ROM pleases you, don't forget there are buttons in this page to express it I have not stop from modding this ROM, still curious if I can make it below 50 Mb so most probable there will (still) be future releases.. will be updating.
UPDATE 22 Sept 2012
Although the latest build is still here to download, and (evidently) still needed by some, and yes, this ROM is still among the LIGHTEST, FASTEST DHD ROM ever existed, I'm sorry to say that this project is now in full stop.
I have been off the droid field for months due to a new 'life' that prevents me from a stable internet connection
I have no DHD now, but I will still stop by once in a while, so if there are questions, feel free to still post here, ar PM me, if i have the answer I surely will reply.
Thank You all!

No probs dude, its glass widgets. Free version from market. As is the time. I stuck with Go Launcher to edit icons and size of some things. On other pages I have Android Pro Widgets. Themed up nice now. Also have Seesmic widest for SN stuff.

How would you compare AOSP with CSM version
Hey everyone,
Just curious how you'd compare the performance and battery life between the AOSP and CSM (I'm assuming CM9) Eaglesblood version?
I'm using the CSM version build 3 right now and I love it. However, it's a little bit buggy here and there (e.g., a few random restarts), and after a few days of usage is a little laggy. Has anyone compared performance between the two?
Also, my battery life has dropped significantly from the 2.3.7 Eaglesblood version I formerly had on my G2x, and I'm wondering if it's worth flashing the AOSP version instead of the CSM to regain it.
And since the AOSP version is based on stock ICS, is it still as customizable as the CSM version?
Thanks a lot guys...sorry if these are newbish questions, but I'm still relatively a newb...I'm trying to learn though, and I love the work you developers work hard to produce!
You should flash it. You won't be dissapointed.

Partially true... by stock flash its at 100%. Dont use that Auto Brightness slider... that thing is buggy with the proximity/photo sensor hardware on p999 especially with ics since theres all kinds of additional gamma/flicker settings.
=>Instead, use the built-in Notification Drawer Power Widget and set your buttons to include Brightness. At the very bottom of that same list select the Brightness Modes to 25/50/75/100. Now when you tap the brightness widget it will cycle through those stages and adjust the screen + homekeys. 'Dim' is ok for pitch black bedtime stories... but itll leave you thinking your phone is OFF with any kind of sunlight nearby.

Depends on what you do with your phone. The 2.3.7 is off CM9 source. Battery life is fine for me for EB's AOSP. I actually think this runs quicker than the other ICS roms I've tried by far, but many of the features don't work. If you depend on things like camcorder and a good camera, or dislike the random FC, switch to 2.3.7 and probably wait for Build 2. I can get ~30 hours of light use before a charge, and something like half that for medium usage. But my battery's been funky the day I got it.
The only qualm I have is that my battery readings seem to fluctuate up and down randomly and charging %s are generally not correct in comparison to the Weapon G2x nandroid I switch back and forth from.
Opera Mobil, as I depend on sometimes, doesn't work, but it's a solid ROM thus far for DD. But I don't do much with it.

Its a script that when installed in CWM will low level format your phone in prep for a new rom. There is a thread in the Developer section.
two issues
I've been running this ROM since Sunday. Things I've noticed are..
...Phone reboots during calls when battery gets to about 30%
...Problems switching back to 4g after leaving WiFi area
...i've had several apps that crash or take long time to open up. But not a major issue compared to the 1st two issues.
