I rooted with the method from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531646 and then installed superuser. I then tried to update the binary from 3.0.3.2 or whatever to 3.1, but it fails on mounting /system as rw. I tried reinstalling superuser but no dice. Thanks in advance.
Super user apk doesn't come with the binary. I too had issues, couldn't mount /system as RW, I mounted as RW using ES File Explorer and then reran the binary update.
You could manually install it from the V6 Supercharger files, copy/paste using a rooted file explorer or pushing with adb.

Open es file explorer, go to settings > root enhancements > check all of them, the third one down is "mount /system rw". Then re-run the binary update. If its cool, you can revert the root enhancements if you want.

Thanks. I've tried that about 5 times but it isnt working. Should I in some way try to update the binary within ES explorer?

I'm not familiar with how to do that. If your using superuser, you could try using supersu.
I have tried superuser about 10-15 times to update the binary also but that doesn't work either.

I read the tip in another thread about how to disable and/or change the Captivate's startup and shutdown sounds but cannot find the files mentioned on my phone. Does anyone have more detailed instructions on how to get rid of the annoying startup and shutdown sounds without using the SDK?
You must have root, then use a file manager (I use root explorer) and rename or delete the sound file:
/system/etc/PowerOn.wav
/system/media/audio/ui/shutdown.ogg

I keep getting an error saying I don't have the permissions to rename those files... I'm using several different file explorer apps and they all give me the same message
Do you have root access? If so change the filesystem to RW or use Root Explorer.

I didn't know how to change it to R/W so paid for the App, well worth the $3 thanks for the quick replies
Still unable to find the files. I am using the default file manager with View Hidden Files enabled and there is no /system directory.

You need to download a manager that has ROOT capabilities or you will not find them.

Easy with ConnectBot to turn off that annoying startup sound.
Connect to local system
su
(Confirm superuser request)
mv /system/etc/PowerOn.wav /system/etc/PowerOn.bak
exit
exit
Done!
Thanks for this LGSilva
I finally ponied up and bought Root Explorer. I found the files and renamed them and everything seems to be working.
Would love to find this info myself.
I cant get access from root explorer. Says read only even with hidden files shown. What am I missing?

Did you allow superuser permission when prompted?

Hello Members
I'm kinda new to rooting, i just installed ics 4.0.4 rooted it and now im having problems changing permissions in root explorer. Im trying to install Talk_with_AV_no_wifi.zip. I'm following the instructions from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390818. But its not working for me.
Any help would be appreciated.
just a guess but mayybe becuase it is in the i-777 forum, it could have diff, libs or something. idk if im right or not.
It worked fine when i had gingerbread. Since ive had ics been having issues with root explorer. I got passed moving the file from sd to system/app with help from other threads but when i try to change permissions in root explorer i get the message.

If its a mod from a different phone it probably won't work. I am on my phone and can't look right now.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
The mod isn't phone specific, it worked when i had gingerbread on the same phone.
Check Superuser SU for any errors. It may have denied permissions. If so, just click the button at the bottom to enable RootExplorer to make SU changes.
Please help me...!!!
when i m trying to chage the permission in root explorer its showing me...'Permissions change was not successful. Please note that some file systems(e.g SD Card) do not allow permission changes.'
plz tell me how to solv it...I have LG P698 mobile phone...its hv android 2.3.4
I've got root, SuperSU, and it won't let me change the files at all. I can't rename the files. Just says, "HotspotProvision.akp cannot be renamed because the file system is read-only". I can't find a permissions option. Do I need the pay version of Root Explorer?
What am I missing here?
The filesystem needs mounted as read write

The problem maybe with supersu binaries, delete these files through twrp or cwm recovery
system/etc/install-recovey.sh
system/xbin/ksud, ku.sud and su
I am using SE live with walkman on stock 4.0.4 I rooted it with eroot and by mistake I deleted the su file from sbin now it shows the phone is not rooted I tried flashing it with stock Rom but it shows error msg and couldn't root again also .please help me,thank you.

Nothing to worry pal.. Just get a 'update.zip' cwm flashable root file. You can search and download this file which can be used to root your device manually. Open the .zip file using an archiving app and extract superuser.apk from /system/app/ and install it. It should solve your SU problem then later convert it to a system app using link2sd or root installer. Let me know if it helped.
I did everything u said but as I don't have cwm installed I I couldn't flash the .zip file and as the SU file is deleted my phone is in non rooted status so I can't use apps requiring root access like link2sd as u mentioned above so it didn't work but thank u for responding do post with better solution

Dude... M not asking you to flash anything. Just download the .zip file, open it and extract SU from system/app/ folder in it then just install it like you would normally install other apps.

No big deal pal.. You got the .zip file right..? open the .zip file, extract 'SU' file from /system/xbin/ Cut the SU file from the directory you extracted and paste it where you deleted it. This should work. Let me know if it did.
Dude..SU binary file provides superuser access but deleted so no superuser access without superuser access it cannot be pasted in system folder...

Well..using es browser make me forget that.. Well.. then you gotta flash the update.zip try with both stock recovery and cwm(try fix permissions if there is an error) or you will need to flash stock firmwate via odin.
Flashing stops displaying error msg can't flash..

Make sure /system is mounted with R/W rights. Not all file explorer apps do this automatically. With Root Explorer for example you have to touch "Mount R/W" before it does so.
Hello,
I have a sony xperia e3, with unlocked bootloader, and it is rooted.
But I don't have write access to /system.
How can I fix this?
Greetz
Ps, I have rooted with the mobile kingo root app and then I have unlocked my bootloader. I can't change the ric because it changes back to the default when I save it.
This thread may be closed or deleted, it was ok after I rooted with the mobile kingroot app
Use es file explorer
getting rw on /system

try mounting rw in / system with terminal emulator or es file explorer if that doesn't work
get an apk named " super su me " from Google and run the application
lingo super user and kinguser don't let u get rw on /system
super su me app let's u get rid of lingo super user and get super is as your super user manager then try mounting rw in /system using terminal or es it'll work for sure this time
