About 18 months ago I got an at&nobars Captivate Galaxy S i897
It was rooted Froyo 2.1.1 (rooted with superoneclick
In Jan of this year it went into, what I believe is what you call a

Here's what happens when I boot it up.
1. I removed the sim and battery and sd card
2. replaced them back into the phone
3.pressed the power button
Results
at&nobars "world phone" splash
Galaxy S Splash
Initial Screen
(here I swipe to open)
message "preparing internal mass storage"
Screen Icon's appear
in flight mode icon appears
green lookout virus starts to initialize
PHONE DIES..
I do have a directory that says "TitaniumBackup"
I want to recover this phone back to stock eclair or 2.1.1 and see if I can get it back working.
Any helpful suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Tim

I have a SGS with firmware I9000DXJG4. My phone cannot use the 3 buttons to get into Recovery mode and Download mode. So i rooted using One-Click Root for I9000 by TGA_Gunman. and it created a Super-User and i can used the software to reboot into recovery mode. Then I run the voodoo5.
After that i found out that samsung kies release Froyo 2.2 and i use the Samsung Kies software to update the firmware. It ask me to backup my contact. After that it download the new firmware version. When i came back i saw my phone SGS blank and only white color on menu n return key.
I try to reboot and take out my sim card n memory card and battery and the result still the same. I can see the Samsung Logo S then after a while it disappear and show black screen.
I try to connect my USB to my PC but it cant detact my drive.
Anyone encounter this problem ? Anyone can help me.. before i send back to Samsung service centre.
Well sounds to me that you forgot to disable voodoo and tried to flash a new firmware. If and when you get you phone working again never try to update the rom or firmware with voodoo enabled.
Can you remove the sim and battery unplug the phone from the comp and plug the cable into the phone put the battery back in and then hold the volume buttons in and plug the cable into the comp. Does the Yellow droid digger come on your screen. If so then you can get odin and flash back to your stock firmware and start over again. If not then you will have to see about getting a replacement phone.
In the future never mess with flashing anything with voodoo enable as this will happen again.
sparker366, thanks for replying my post.
Yes, i forgot to disable the voodoo and unroot it. That is my mistake. I tried your step and it won't come out the Yellow droid digger come on your screen. That is because i remember my firmware is the latest which the samsung developer remove the 3 buttons functions to allow us to get into recovery mode and download mode.
Anyway my problem solved. I decided to send back to Samsung service centre and told them that my problem suddently blank without telling them that i flush it.
I am lucky that they willing to flush a new firmware Froyo 2.2 and told me that i am the 2nd customer who flush the new firmware. Now i don't want to touch anything on it again.
Thanks sparker366 for giving me some info.
hi all. I am not a newb when it comes to computers, I have hacked a few devices here and there, usually with the help of instructions online. I recently noticed that my captivate was having some trouble with the wifi, clock, and overall being slow. I decided it was time to root it and install the cyanogen rom. I did so by following these steps which I found at their wiki:
From 2.1 Eclair
Go to the xda thread located here. Download the latest version of the ROM. Move it to your internal SD card on your phone.
If you are not already rooted, root with the tools here
Download ROM Manager (available in the market, more info here)
Choose "Flash Clockwork Mod" which will put an update.zip (holding clockwork recovery) on the root of your internal SD card.
Open Rom Manager, choose "Install ROM from SD Card", navigate to your Cognition2.x.zip, and watch the magic happen!
Notes:
If this is your first time installing clockwork, it may fail at stock recovery and reboot. Simply choose "reinstall packages" once more, and it should work properly.
You can then copy the update.zip to you comp and when you flash back to stock just copy that back over to the internal sd card and reboot to recovery and reinstall pkgs
(may need to do this 2x). No need to root.

Everything was going smoothly, no hiccups. Phone rebooted into the proper rom and seemed ok. The wifi was still giving me trouble though, gave me error messages about not being able to scan for networks, and ultimately I figured I would turn it off for a sec. So I turned the phone off, took out the battery and sim, and left it for a min. I then put it all back together and tried to power up...nothing happens. The screen stays black, I get no feedback whatsoever. I have tried to get it into "download mode" by holding the volume down and pressing the power button, but no luck. I am trying to follow this guide here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775911
to troubleshoot it but am really scared at this point. Any advice?
Try
Remove sim, bat, EXTERNAL sd. put bat back in. volume up and down while plugging in usb.
If not look into a jig

amazing
Well after searching and testing for an hour I did what I never do, left it alone and slept on it (perhaps hoping for a miracle). When I woke up this morning I rushed over to see if the situation had changes, which it hadn't. Then I decided to try holding the keys down while plugged into the wall, not the computer.
After taking out sim and battery (I wasnt using an sd card) plugging it into the wall, holding buttons and inserting the battery, it booted up into clockworks menu!
I chose the reboot option and everything seems to be working. Unfortunately I am still having the same wifi problems that I did before the rom flash. With the wifi off the phone runs great. With the wifi turned on though, it becomes laggy, and seems to just hang while trying to scan for networks. It never actually completes a scan and I often get the "force quit or wait dialog". I will open a new thread for this issue though.
Thanks all!
Hi,friends
I just bought a used Rogers Infuse 4G I977 from ebay.
It was a rooted phone with Stock 2.3.3 UXKG3 installed
and there's problem with it:
1) It cannot boot into CMW/e3 recovery mode, when i press 3buttons(power +/-) or hold +/- and plug in USB cable, the screen will turn on with 4 lights on(home/search etc.) but nothing else shows on the screen,if i press the power button again it will reboot but reboot into another black screen with some sound, sounded like turning the phone in normal way but nothing shows.
2.When I turn on the phone normally, there is NO Samsung/Rogers Logo,it only has the booting sound and 1-2mins after I will have to press the power button myself to open up the lockscreen and use the phone
What I did:
Re-flash the root UXKG3 via Odin
UNROOT my phone
Install CWM via Rom Manager
Install e3 and use the file explorer to put update into CMW
Lots more,i tired EVERYTHING in the forum
Goal :
Now i don't care i can install a ROM/Root or not.
I Just Want To Have My Samsung/Rogers Logo backed on when i Turn on my phone, just wanted to look like a normal phone.
Please help me!This will be a gift for my friend and I wanted to look really nice and stock give it to him,I've been reading on Infuse 4G forum for 13Hours striaght and i have tried everything i could.
I own Galaxy S 2 with lots of root/custom experience so i'm not a noob and i know what i am doing but i really can't fix this.
I can provide video of the loading screen and everything etc.
Odin or heimdall back to stock,
Run the program
Place pone in download mode
Do what it says on the program/on the op of the program
Download mode: pull battery, put battery back in, hold volume up and down, then plug in USB cord.
You have to pull the battery or it won't work...at least its never worked for me without pulling the battery...
Edit: just saw you have already tried Odin...maybe try a different Odin?
Actually when I first flashed cm9 I had no Samsung logo on boot, I'd get a rainbow screen then it would go into the cm9 boot animation...I flashed gingerbread boot loaders through heimdall and then reflashed cm9 and the rainbow screen was replaced with a galaxy s logo with cm9 logo under that
So maybe you don't have the right bootloaders...Odin does not replace bootloaders-at least as far as I know it doesn't. So try heimdall...however be aware that flashing boot loaders is the easiest way to actually brick this phone...so do it at your own risk...I'm not saying flashing new boot loaders will fix your problem...I'm just saying it worked for me on a different but similar situation.

Alright i will try helium tonight, thanks.
First off, I know I'm a new member, and I did watch the video, I've been searching the forum for days now trying to find someone with the exact some problem as me but I've come to the conclusion I must be special as I haven't seen this problem else where. Lucky me...
Let me start off with some information about the phone.
Carrier: Vodafone AU (says XSE on the recovery screen)
Baseband Version: I9020XXKI1
Bootloader Version: I9020XXKL1
HW Version: Rev 52
Model: Nexus S i9023
Lock State: Unlocked
Primary computer: iMac
Fairly certain I have USB debugging turned off :\
I rooted and unlocked the phone and was running the latest CyberGR mod ROM and the latest AirKernel kernel. The phone was running brilliantly, not a problem in the world, very smooth, very fast, excellent battery life, I loved it. Only thing I didn't like was how the keyboard became unresponsive at times. For that reason, I think I'll be switching to the Bugless Beast ROM and thalmus kernel when (if) I get this phone fixed.
So a few days ago, the power button on my Nexus S stuffed up and wouldn't work anymore. Completely unresponsive. I couldn't lock/unlock my phone using the power button. I had to either connect/disconnect it from the USB or turn it on/off by taking the battery out to be able to use it. Needless to say, this got very tedious very quickly and I decided to unroot it and send it back to Samsung.
I looked into how to unroot and came across the Odin app and decided that I'd use that to unroot. (noob error on my behalf, I realise now) Regardless of what I'd read, Odin doesn't work on a Nexus S apparently and although I didn't flash to stock, my phone became significantly less useable, half the time it wouldn't respond to anything I did on it. I tried to boot into CWM and although I was able to do so, it was useless as my power button wasn't working.
At this stage, I took out the battery, put it back in and the phone booted up again. I didn't press the power button, it just booted up straight away. I took it out again and held the volume up button on the side and this time, I didn't get put into the CWM menu, but the normal Android recovery menu. I went to press the volume up and down buttons but nothing worked. Power button is still unresponsive.
When I don't boot into recovery, it goes past the Google screen with the unlocked lock on the bottom of it, and goes to a screen where it says "Android" in a metallic style (I disable the boot animation logo in CyberGR mod so I was used to this screen) and it just hung on there, it never booted up past that screen.
Every time I tried to use fastboot -w to wipe the phone, or oem lock or anything, I would just get < waiting for device >
I plugged it into my Windows 7 laptop, tried the one_click_stock app and got the message that my phone has no boot.img. I then googled problems regarding the boot.img and no one really had any solutions that helped me out.
The SDK won't recognise my phone is there, but the sound pops up on Windows saying a device has been connected and disconnected but it never shows up.
Is it bricked or unfixable? Clearly warranty is void, not sure if I should just take it into Vodafone and ask for a new phone (as its still within warranty period, hence why I wanted to lock it and flash a stock ROM).
Very sorry for the lengthy post, I know I was meant to be brief but I thought the more information I could give, the better chance there would be for anyone to help me out. Thanks.
Make the root of your phone with any application in the market and install the recovery ClockworkMod touch with Rom manager premium or Rom toolbox Pro. Restart recovery using Rom manager or Rom toolbox and do a full cleaning on the phone. Wipe only data and cache.
Now, select from mount and storage mount USB storage and copy over to your i9020 storage any rom ( try using the cm9 ). If the installation is successful restart, if not try some other roms. More than that I do not know how to help.
P.s.: In theory it should go smoothly, otherwise I do not assume any liability for further damage to the phone ... Good luck!
Did you know you can operate cwm using the capacitive search button instead of the power button?

Thanks for the reply, I can't actually boot into the phone or get to any market place or any screen that could make the phone useable at all, it just sits on the CyberGR android screen for when you disable the boot animation.

I was pressing the search button (the volume buttons were working when I could boot into CWM) and the text just disappeared off the screen and just showed the logo. I can no longer boot into CWM.
I've installed Ubuntu and I'm going to try running the unrbickable java app that a user on here created, hopefully that may work.
I received this galaxy s6 as part of a trade for another phone. The original owner said the phone's speakers would stop working sporadically, but was still usable after a power off/on. Until one day it would no longer boot. When I press the power button, the "Galaxy S6" screen will come on for a few seconds and then the screen goes black (accompanied by a blue-light blue pulsing led). It will go into download mode and recovery mode, but will not boot up. and this is how it was given to me.
I've tried:
factory data reset - no change
Install stock firmware (downloaded from Sam mobile, also from android rootz ) via Odin (shows failed device 4 binary 1) -no change
Upgrade firmware via kies - invalid serial number when imei is entered (from sticker on the battery.
I'm a little ignorant when it comes to software issues, so there would be no possibility of over-explaining. and any and all help would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Use smartswitch (its the alternative for kies on the s6). Theres an emergency recovery option.
Tried it. says device is not supported. So I select the "more" option then emergency recovery option and it says "if a software update fails to complete, the device will appear in the list below" however the device is not listed, so there is nothing to select.
Device initialization option gives me an invalid serial number error
Used an imei converter to get the dec and get "serial number not found on server".

I know this sounds dumb but you're sure it's the verizon variant?
Hi, I've the same problem with a S6 (italy), the issue came up after a crash on the floor (glass back cover broken).
I gave a look inside, but every seems fine, nothing broken. A friend of mine told me that could a damaged emmc, he owns a repair shop and back in the days saw a lot of S3 with the same symptoms.
