[Q] Samsung Galaxy S turn black and white screen after update froyo 2.2 - Captivate General

I have a SGS with firmware I9000DXJG4. My phone cannot use the 3 buttons to get into Recovery mode and Download mode. So i rooted using One-Click Root for I9000 by TGA_Gunman. and it created a Super-User and i can used the software to reboot into recovery mode. Then I run the voodoo5.
After that i found out that samsung kies release Froyo 2.2 and i use the Samsung Kies software to update the firmware. It ask me to backup my contact. After that it download the new firmware version. When i came back i saw my phone SGS blank and only white color on menu n return key.
I try to reboot and take out my sim card n memory card and battery and the result still the same. I can see the Samsung Logo S then after a while it disappear and show black screen.
I try to connect my USB to my PC but it cant detact my drive.
Anyone encounter this problem ? Anyone can help me.. before i send back to Samsung service centre.

Well sounds to me that you forgot to disable voodoo and tried to flash a new firmware. If and when you get you phone working again never try to update the rom or firmware with voodoo enabled.
Can you remove the sim and battery unplug the phone from the comp and plug the cable into the phone put the battery back in and then hold the volume buttons in and plug the cable into the comp. Does the Yellow droid digger come on your screen. If so then you can get odin and flash back to your stock firmware and start over again. If not then you will have to see about getting a replacement phone.
In the future never mess with flashing anything with voodoo enable as this will happen again.

sparker366, thanks for replying my post.
Yes, i forgot to disable the voodoo and unroot it. That is my mistake. I tried your step and it won't come out the Yellow droid digger come on your screen. That is because i remember my firmware is the latest which the samsung developer remove the 3 buttons functions to allow us to get into recovery mode and download mode.
Anyway my problem solved. I decided to send back to Samsung service centre and told them that my problem suddently blank without telling them that i flush it.
I am lucky that they willing to flush a new firmware Froyo 2.2 and told me that i am the 2nd customer who flush the new firmware. Now i don't want to touch anything on it again.
Thanks sparker366 for giving me some info.

[Q] Software Bricked, Odin Won't Restore

I have a samsung captivate that I had Perception 9 on, I was disabling the lag fix and restarted my phone (the lag fix wasn't working properly). I was forced into the at&t world phone ghost loop and was unable to go into recovery or download mode with any form of the 3 button combination.
I went to radio shack and jimmy rigged a nice usb jig and was able to get into download mode from there. I downloaded the Odin one touch to revert back to stock 2.1, everything flashed correctly, but when it went to restart (after i got the green PASS in odin) I am still stuck at the AT&T world phone loop.
Any suggestions?

Try this
Remove any cables from phone to PC
1. Shutdown your phone
2. Remove battery
3. Remove SIM card and any SD cards you installed
4. Start ODIN one click installed on your PC
5. Press both volume up & down together and keeping them pressed, connect the USB cable to PC
6. Your phone should go to download mode and ODIN should identify it
Now start and see.
Let me know what happens
If what luv2rip doesn't work try my method:

I had a similar issue earlier today. When dealing with Odin it seems that the best method to use is the one luv2rip described.
In my case, my little buddy (phone) kept freezing on solid colored screens. So I decided to try a different PC... and BAMMM! Worked like magic.
.... maybe it still had some Voodoo left in there =)
I forgot to mention that I recently went from XP to Vista on the PC that gave me problems. Since the "upgrade" was made Ive had sooo many things malfunction. The PC wouldnt even acknowledging the phone was plugged into it =/

Vista? Well there's your problem. Windows 7, enough said!

Also, check your phone's build # (under your battery). The 1010 build phones have problems with Odin 1-click because they won't accept JF6 firmware. Per reports from other users, they will only accept JH2 or above firmware.
If that is your issue, you can use the method posted by Breakin' Ranh to return to stock.

[Q] Bricked after gingerbread update

Hi and thanks in advance for any advice. I updated my galaxy s via kies to gingerbread however it failed partway through and gave me the green screen of death after a battery pull it showed the phone to pc with the yellow warning triangle between, tried the firmware restore option on kies but no good. the phone wouldnt and still wont go into recovery mode with the 3 button press, or download mode, atm it is just dead and wont do anything, even tried the charger into it to see if anything lights up but no response at all. any help greatly appreciated. oh it was running froyo 2.1.1 and rooted. i forgot to deroot before the upgrade, dont know if that messed it up?
which download mode button combo are you using @ the moment?
Hi, the phone wont even go into ant download or recovery mode, tried all the 3 button presses mentioned on the net but no joy, turns out it can be sorted thro the warrenty because it was Kies that killed it, also was told by the repair guy that a lot of UK galaxy s phone had the download/recovery mode disabled for some reason. But when he puts it right again the modes will be activated, just means i will be without my favourite gadget for a few days.....
what device r u using
download stock rom for galaxy s and wipe it down

Samsung Boot Logo is GONE

Hi,friends
I just bought a used Rogers Infuse 4G I977 from ebay.
It was a rooted phone with Stock 2.3.3 UXKG3 installed
and there's problem with it:
1) It cannot boot into CMW/e3 recovery mode, when i press 3buttons(power +/-) or hold +/- and plug in USB cable, the screen will turn on with 4 lights on(home/search etc.) but nothing else shows on the screen,if i press the power button again it will reboot but reboot into another black screen with some sound, sounded like turning the phone in normal way but nothing shows.
2.When I turn on the phone normally, there is NO Samsung/Rogers Logo,it only has the booting sound and 1-2mins after I will have to press the power button myself to open up the lockscreen and use the phone
What I did:
Re-flash the root UXKG3 via Odin
UNROOT my phone
Install CWM via Rom Manager
Install e3 and use the file explorer to put update into CMW
Lots more,i tired EVERYTHING in the forum
Goal :
Now i don't care i can install a ROM/Root or not.
I Just Want To Have My Samsung/Rogers Logo backed on when i Turn on my phone, just wanted to look like a normal phone.
Please help me!This will be a gift for my friend and I wanted to look really nice and stock give it to him,I've been reading on Infuse 4G forum for 13Hours striaght and i have tried everything i could.
I own Galaxy S 2 with lots of root/custom experience so i'm not a noob and i know what i am doing but i really can't fix this.
I can provide video of the loading screen and everything etc.
Odin or heimdall back to stock,
Run the program
Place pone in download mode
Do what it says on the program/on the op of the program
Download mode: pull battery, put battery back in, hold volume up and down, then plug in USB cord.
You have to pull the battery or it won't work...at least its never worked for me without pulling the battery...
Edit: just saw you have already tried Odin...maybe try a different Odin?
Actually when I first flashed cm9 I had no Samsung logo on boot, I'd get a rainbow screen then it would go into the cm9 boot animation...I flashed gingerbread boot loaders through heimdall and then reflashed cm9 and the rainbow screen was replaced with a galaxy s logo with cm9 logo under that
So maybe you don't have the right bootloaders...Odin does not replace bootloaders-at least as far as I know it doesn't. So try heimdall...however be aware that flashing boot loaders is the easiest way to actually brick this phone...so do it at your own risk...I'm not saying flashing new boot loaders will fix your problem...I'm just saying it worked for me on a different but similar situation.

Alright i will try helium tonight, thanks.

Help Just Soft Bricked New Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G SGH-T769

I followed this links w.mobilescommunity.com/android-tips-tutorial/208463-how-root-samsung-galaxy-s-blaze-4g.html instructions to a "T" and when the phone came back on it stops at the welcome screen no matter what. I tried to install ClockworkMod Recovery per these instructions /theunlockr.com/2012/04/17/how-to-root-and-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-samsung-galaxy-blaze-4g/ and it seemed to work as I get the OMR mode when I try to get the download screen without having it already cable connected to the PC. When I have it connected to the PC I am able to get to the "Download" mode. OI! I never have had a problem rooting before. The stock OS ICS 4.0.4 was on it and I bought it new from T-Mobile and then it did the OTA update a week ago. I have had nothing on it other than stock and a few camera apps. I have already tried to return it to OEM with the OMR recovery but its still the same, always booting to the welcome screen. When I try to get it into a mode, ether the recovery mode or the download mode, it sometimes vibrates several times and then "May" go into one or the other depending if its cable tethered or not. HELP PLEASE, I disabled and this is my only outside contact short of coming into town to use the Internet at a cafe. Thanks, Jeff

----- Did you ever get your Blaze fixed?....
pretty much the same problem i have!!! i currently have the samsung galaxy s blaze and rooted it to the custom rom from konane using the odis program, it said passed and auto rebooted my phone, but when it gets to the home screen where you touch the android to set up your phone like its brand new, when i hit the android bot all that happens is a message force closing a bunch of apps appear. i can get to the download mode to install new roms and i've tried to re root back to the stock rom but now my computer doesnt recognize my phone. i've downloaded and installed the samsung drivers from several different forums including the ones recommended here but still nothing. what im wondering is if theres a way to install the rom or driver from an sd card to the phone or something else that im missing, or is my phone just screwed? any and all help is greatly appreciated.

[SOLVED]Bricked phone

Hi I want to know how can I unbrick my Samsung galaxy s 4g. I believe I bricked because now when I turned on only stock in the logo. Please can you help me with this. I'm leontx's wife. Thanks
If it's just showing the logo and it's there for over 15 minutes, you'll probably need to reflash something.
I'd suggest using one of the one-clicks from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19601810&postcount=2 and I'd probably suggest the second (Basic with a Twist) choice.
First, you need to get the phone into download mode. Easiest way to do that is to unplug USB cable, pull the battery out, plug the battery back in, and plug the phone back to the computer. Hold the volume buttons on the left and turn on the phone (while holding down the buttons). It should ask you if you want to go into download mode. Press volume+ to confirm, then unplug the phone from your computer and plug it back in (to make the computer realize that there's a device there). Now run the one-click to reflash your phone. If the flash fails, restart the phone and try again. If the phone reboots to a screen showing a little phone and a yellow warning sign, perfect... just flash it again. That's the alternate download screen, and I get it everytime I use Heimdall/Odin/Kies to flash it.
couldn't get into download mode
Hello, thanks for you help,I'm trying to fix my wife's galaxy s after she wiped and factory reset the phone when tried to recovery by herself. Now the phone is stock in the galaxy s 4g logo forever,I tried to get into recovery or download mode but i couldn't.She told me that the phone was giving her a error message about the keyboard app, then she removed the batt and put it back, the battery showed her almost dead like 1% when was like 79% few seconds before, then she called t-mobile and the person told her to do the recovery mode with the bottoms, she did it and the person ask how much batt the phone had, she said 79%.then the person sugested to full charge the batt, and call them(tmobile) back.So here we go... lol:laugh:.She tried to fix it and got into recovery mode and wiped and factory reset the phone,I dont know what she was doing and removed the batt to reboot the phone.and here we are now. When try to get into download mode the pc not recognize it say USB device not reconognized and the phone just show a loading logo but nothing happen.I just want to know if is possible to fix this or toss it,the phone is rooted with a custom rom,I tried with another batt but the same results.Im realy want to recover this phone to give it to my mother in law thank you so much

i soft brick may phone yesterday, i use to flash my current rom and then reflash it again [clean flash] i just reflash it to save my game replay..
if you can boot into recovery mode, reflash your current rom and then backup and wipe everything exept sdcard then flash again.
Sounds like the battery crapping out on you & crashing while it was doing something important. Usually, a factory reset and new battery can fix. But, If the reset failed, it's not a biggie. find any of the one clicks that you might like to try (lumin30 has a awesome guide/thread w/ links). Batteries are cheap. Sometimes they will swell up when they die. If it spins easy when placed on flat surface is an easy check. There are a couple threads with links to 10 buck replacements around too.
