I am looking for 10 aplha/beta testers for each Linux and mac users for the all in one script for the Atrix 2.
I have 2 people on the Linux side that have already volunteered, so I need 8 Linux users now and 10 mac users.
Please reply to this thread with the following 2 things, if you want to test.
OS - Linux or OS X.
Experience level - noob, intermediate, expert/dev (this is with your os and andriod)
I am really trying to look for people that understand how to report back bugs, I am not looking to teach for this first round of testing, since I have just run this once myself. I am looking for someone that can screen print and explain what they were attempting and any good information they can give.
If you feel you are up to this task then the first 8 Linux users and the first 10 mac users that reply are in, any more and I will cut it off, and you will get to be in the first users that can download it next week when I post it in the dev section after initial testing.
Once I have all the testers I will PM everyone with the link to download the LARGE tar'd and gziped file (about 600MBs.), and what to do. After this initial reply I want no communication about bugs or anything in this thread, please. All bugs should be through PM ONLY!
---EDIT---
REQUIREMENTS:
Installed and tested that the SDK and ADB and USB connection to the Atrix 2 works.
Thanks!
P.S.
Right now this ONLY is setup to handle the US AT&T version of the phone. I will have all the fxz versions in the next revision as I am working on trying to figure out the best way to detect which version and kernel you are running and if it is an MEARET, SEARET, ME865, etc.
I can help test on Linux . Experience level probably somewhere in between intermediate/expert.
LOL. I've been so busy with other stuff I haven't worked at all on that "megatool" with the excuse to wait for ICS . But it would be great to have something like this that is totally cross-platform.

I just uploaded a copy of it without the fxz files in the fxz directory.... this way you can drop just the patched fxz files in there, not the directory that the OG fxz comes in....
MInd if I post a screen shot or two to show this in action?????
Be happy to help on the Linux script if you still have room. I'm a little rusty but I'd say I'm definitely at least at an intermediate level.

You'll wanna learn Java, specifically, Object Oriented Programming. Stick to one of the more popular Linux distributions since it'll be easier to get your computer set up and deal with driver problems and the like. For now, maybe Ubuntu would be your best choice.

I know the SDK has AVD, but it's outdated and extremely slow. You can install custom roms on it but only older ones because its based on the yaffs2 filesystem and most current roms use EXT4. I had high hopes for bluestacks too but its locked down pretty tight and I don't see us being able to flash roms to it anytime soon. We have emulators for pretty much everything else, something like this shouldn't be too hard if we work at it. Dynamic recompilation seems to be the best way to go, but feel free to give input if you feel otherwise.
I guess our starting point should be here: http://fms.komkon.org/EMUL8/HOWTO.html
The man who wrote the guide above is some high-end developer that builds emulators for Android, but he seems to be pretty knowledgeable. He has an email you can contact him if you need help with a specific thing: [email protected].
As they come in, I'll list all the information regarding developments in this project in the post below.

Wow! Looks an excellent project for Devs
I have few questions
1. Will be there a possibility to define and emulate specific devices?
2. How ROMs are flashed, the emulator will have a recovery too?
3. How many of you are working on it?

1.) One of the goals would be hardware and kernel emulation, I would imagine they could be set as variables where you could input your own kernel and we could make some predefined hardware options for you to choose from. It would be hard but I think it could be done.
2.) I don't exactly know, but seeing as that's how we already do it we could try. Early alphas would probably be more of a "kitchen" where your menu is in the terminal and you manually put your files in the respective folders.
3.) Just me at the moment, I haven't found anyone to help. I haven't really made too much progress either, right now I'm decompiling AVD to figure out how it runs.
If this works, it would be a lifesaver. I say we should PM you any predefined device settings we want, and have a drop down list that automatically sets it. And to emulate recovery I don't see happening like on our devices, but maybe some of the wipe features, and flashing over a current rom? Also anything you need for help I can do, just ask. I'm good at design, and UI, just can't create it myself. And can you possible make it cross platform? Because I switch between windows and Linux.

Either way, I appreciate the help! Ill PM you if I need a tester and you should pop in every once in awhile to see how things are coming along. I'm not going to lie, this is harder than I thought it was but it seems do-able the more I study AVD.
I'm thinking we might be able to change the filesystem on AVD to run EXT3/EXT4 and get it to run a little smoother and build it to run without eclipse, then modify it to fit our needs.
That's sound good. And anyone who would get the most use of it would be fine with a terminal based one right now, and you can work on a GUI later unless someone else helps you soon. I'll keep checking as this comes along, hopefully it won't take too long to get a preview working.

I feel pretty confident in this project, I'm going through Androids source code starting with 1.5
I've been thinking this over, it would be much easier to add EXT3 and EXT4 support to AVD and tweak it for speed. Im working on it now, ill try to get an early alpha out as soon as I can put it together.

From my understanding, you have to swap out the patches and it's specific to your device and ROM. I took a look at one of the patcher tools, but it was just a bunch of confusion to me until I can actually sit down and take a look without having to rush. Think you could take a look as well? Greatly appreciated :victory:

Well, let me know if you figure anything out when you get everything up and running. I'm definitely going to be sitting down tonight and looking into it, I'll report back if I find anything!
I just found this quote in the post; "For all who keep on asking your answers can be found in this thread just search. To use the patch you need your rom's source code then run the patch command on linux and patch your source add the resources and compile. There is no flash zip morphs or anything flash able because AOSP roms are not the same it will be hard to make a flash able zip for all and this is the development section if you don't know what to do then search, read and read some more instead of these consider requests that wouldn't happen. You have to do see stuff yourself something" ... so my question now is, where is the source code for LS RC5(seeing that you run it as well).

LS RC5 is based off of CM10, so it would be the cyanogen mod 10 source code, which is android 4.1.2 source

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762641
It looks like we need to come out with a new OTA base, some of the newer ROM's threads are being closed. Also, there is rumor that some devs are getting banned for posting ROMS's based on original OTA in RootzWiki. Being very new to this whole thing I can help, I attempted to make my my own but ended up rooted and S-ON (fixed now).
In any event I reverted back to stock, no root, did the OTA upgrade (what originally caused be problems since it updated HBOOT to 1.08). I was able to root it and do a backup. Now I am back to S-OFF and rooted, so I want to see what we can do with the backup, as far as I know the boot.img is the missing link. The one that came with OTA ICS installs 1.08 HBOOT (f5e16f3f55ddfb0ec10c8f9a75b35bed boot.img) which is not good.
I think we should create a completely open source version of the OTA and allow anyone and anybody to customize it as they see fit. Let's face it the TBolt lifecycle is at it's end so those of us that are left should work together.
Danm that sucks, I was wondering what was going on.
I love your idea, if I knew anything about this stuff I would help. When I saw the threads were locked for that reason it annoyed the hell out of me. What happened to Android being open source like its supposed to be.

Nevermind I see whats going on here. I read Santod040 post in the other thread and he makes some valid points. I wish I could help tho.
I agree with Santod040 as well that is why I am doing this. I will probably not be able to do this all on my own, mostly because I have been basically an ROM end user. By the time I learn all I need to build my own ROM I will hopefully be on another device.
You have to do a system dump using adb. I'm not 100% certain but it may have to be done before it is altered. In other words 100% stock ota.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Good idea!
I also wish I knew more. My simple successes have so far been related to theming of icon color in Browser.apk including some simple string edits, and custom colored or fully transparent LATIN_IME.apks.
I already have Ubuntu on a dual boot PC and Eclipse, and also have an updated SDK, but some 'clif notes' to get me started would be helpful. I've browsed around before and read many threads all over.
I like the idea of us all joining up to see what we can do!
The command for that should be listed with the other adb commands when you type adb in a terminal. You will need tools for splitting the boot.img as well since to make the ota a flashable you will have to package the boot.img in a zip.

Isn't HBOOT packaged with the boot.img? For the backup that I did I have all that. What is the difference between doing a backup and doing a system dump with adb?
I finally found OTAUpdate.zip, I am going to dissect that and see what I can come up with. I was just about to downgrade and redownload the otaupdate.zip, saved me some time.
The nand is different because it isn't flashable the same way that a rom is. Theoretically you could upload the nand and people could use that to get the base but it just isn't the typical practice. It is better to have a flashable zip. The otaupdate.zip is not like a normal file especially since the update is a whole lot of patches that have to be applied to the stock gb base. That is why it took santod almost a day to assemble it into a flashable zip.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
Yeah it's sad it comes to this though. The community is who loses out in the end. As long as someone isnt profiting off your work I dont see what the problem is with them kanging it. Dev's are all supposed to have the same goal here, enrich the community with roms. They only do it because they are generous and enjoy helping out, especially a dying community such as the Thunderbolt. We need as much dev support as we can get, no matter where it comes from. If your goal is to help the community then you should be happy that they are enjoying your work, it's not like we dont know where the stuff comes from anyway.
Look guys just use the Unlock your bootloader on ICS Method, Get root, Install the recovery, backup the rom. Copy the backup from /clockwork to computer. Zip it and send to me. All we need is the System partition. The rest we will find

I see FOTA in OTAUpdate, I am assuming that is where HBOOT is being updated. That is what I was planning on doing, getting last GB RUU and manually running the scripts to come up with OTA. But the boot.img is what I don't understand, it seems the various boot.img is various ROM's are different (having different MD5's), are these built?
Guys can we please cut out the name calling and puerile acrimony?
I know that development can be a passion, but we need to work out our differences peacefully and sublimate our passion into development and this verbal venom.
As of right now let's cut out the nonsense, I am going to clean the thread up a bit and attempt to get some specifics, then we can discuss the issues without resorting to flaming.

Again I'm not 100% certain but i am sure that the new hboot is needed to assemble the ota because the patches in the ota are encrypted and the hboot decrypts those patches and assembles them.

You see who started it. If he wants to troll n call people out he should expect a reply. As long as I've been here and been in this community I've never had to give reports to mods over a user. He should learn to control his mouth and he wouldn't get a Ill mannered response. I am going to leave this post here to make a point.
The fact is that you too should learn to control your own "mouth" (or keyboard as it were).
This isn't about who is right or wrong, I honestly don't even know what is going on at this point as I am still trying to figure exactly what the problem is, but this is not the place to go off like an atomic warhead about whatever is going on here. If you allow someone to bait you into these types of remarks, then you are giving that person control over your emotions and your reactions and you then take on the role of villain.
Whatever is going on you can PM a mod or get it sorted out through proper channels, some of our mods and Admin are developers and know the stuff inside out, they can sort out who is actually the instigator here.
End of discussion on this please. PM me if you still have issue. I will figure out what is happening and act on it.
Be civil, I refuse to believe that that is beyond your or anyone else's ability.

It could be looked at as a dev is getting donations off another devs hard work. So basically he or she is profiting off another's work. It's always best to ask another if they can use their work. I know liquid went through this with cm team. If a dev doesn't ask and just uses another's work. They should expect to get a nastygram from the dev who did the work. Free or paid stealing work is still stealing.

Aghhh, can we get back on topic....we need to create a new OTA base.
Hey guys,
After having nearly lost all my data because android would not recognize my Decryption password I would like to try to compile frost.
I don't know if it will work for the HTC one but I really want to give it a try to help out other people who might have to factory reset due to encrytion problems.
It looks fairly simple to compile it, only I have never compiled any kernel .img before.
Before I actually try to compile it I would like to get advice on how best to do it and what to avoid while compilling.
Again I really want to get this compiled for the HTC one as this had me in a really bad spot.

I know there are some questions in here but I really do want to get it compiled for you guys in this thread to have a way of possibly recovering encrypted data.
Anyone else up for the challange?
What?

Thanks MacHackz. I really think alot of people could benefit from having a tool to recover encrypted data.
All I can say is I'm willing to try everything

Yeah I seen it will only work on 4.1.2 but lucky enough HTC hasn't update all devices to 4.2.2 yet .
I have a Ubuntu virtual machine setup for doing the compiling. Just installing required items now.
Should have everything setup tomorrow to start compilling

Seems like you already know how
Edit: After further discussion we have decided to re-open this thread.
For now, lets leave it in general, once some development has been done we can talk about moving it back to development
Just wanted to say thank you for XDA for allowing us to start work in FROST.
I'm currently discussing FROST with a few other XDA'ers who are also interested in helping me out and getting this developed.
Once I know more (hopefully this evening) I will post an update.
Again thanks XDA for allowing this to be done
So u got the thread up, Awesome. Shoot me a pm when ya ready...
Welcome to your new home FROST
I'd like to help as well
I've got Eclipse/ADT set up ready to use for a couple of App ideas I've got. If it's just compiling Android code, I''m happy to help.
I've just finished a degree in Computer Security & Forensics (2:1) with a dissertation on Android security & security awareness. Prior to that I'v been a Systems Analyst and developer for a number of years (Mainframe/Unix/Microsoft). so although I'm fairly new to Android, I know my way roind an IDE or terminal editor and I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty woth code.
Nice to hear man, and looking forward to getting started.
Ive had a few issues with my pc and have got most of it sorted now. So of all goes well i will be able to start work after many delays
And I could definitely use you help if you can man

lol, just have seen this.
The link to the University of Erlangen has some pretty neat resources, but I currently have no android phone to try making such a recovery image for.
For the case of (hopefully) your own phone you are trying to get the /data back: This software relies on the device having been unlocked not long ago. If the device was not unlocked for a week or so, you have no real chance of the keys being still in ram.
If you have a weak PIN, its bruteforce feature might work, if you have a strong one it may take very long. I'd recommend you to make a bit level image of the /data partition just in case (type man dd in your commandline in linux, the dd tool should also be in phone recoveries). And possibly try to encrypt it on your desktop that propably gets it done faster. Also you do not need to make a device specific recovery and you dont need to cross compile.
Also this: http://www1.cs.fau.de/filepool/projects/frost/frost.crackpin.tgz
might just work. Read through the README file in the archive, its straightforward.
thx good thing to konw
There's a reason they freeze the phone. If you hope to recover the keys from a phone that is powered off for anything like 5 mins or more forget it :/ . (The time really depends on the memory chips)

Is thia project still being worked on, @darks1der? It looks promising!
Hey the project is being worked on however it is going slower that expected due to alot of personal issue's.
I hope to have everything resolved ASAP so I can devote my self to FROST

Will FROST be able to recover deleted files from the phones internal storage? I'll send strength your way so that you'll get your life to awesomeness again.
FROST only works if your bootloader is unlocked. Since unlocking your bootloader wipes data you're screwed (unless there's some hack to prevent this for your device bootloader). Image the phone or copy the encryption header and try to brute force/dictionary attack your own password key as much as you want without worrying about data being wiped. Download Kali Linux live CD maybe it has some Android forensics tools I think it does. If not google around for 'android brute force encryption' somebody will have tools to do this.
