Ok so I have seen that we need Windows drivers and all that to root, I don't have a Windows machine, I have Linux Mint installed. Is there a way that I can root my Atrix 2 on linux?

This sounds like a job for Jimbridgman (a.k.a. Linux god)...
I actually have a script that I need beta testers for that does root and fxz and a few other things if you want to be a guinea pig.
It works in linux and mac at the moment, windows will also soon be supported as well.

No source, it is all shell scripts, way easier this way....
I will include you in the alpha/beta test group. I am uploading to my andriodfiles.com directory now, when done I will ask for other testers, then PM everyone the link before the end of the day.

Well title says it all, im doing a blind build and i got one person testing for me but i think it'll be faster for all to just get a few more on board. If you want to help hit me up on here. First 3 will be taken if they meet the following criteria's
Needed from testers:
1. Must know how to Odin back to stock (aka if you soft brick you can get back to stock) the current build loads up just fine.
2. Must have efs backup ( you never know when flashing)
3. Must know how to do logcat ( adb logcat > logcat.txt)
4. Lastly, actually want to to test long term, like with updates and stuff I put into it.
Of course the people who decide to test I ask don't leak anything til it's ready
I have 3 roms for the SGS4G, 1 for the LG and well working on this one so I know what I am doing If you do decide to help I will have an update rom this weekend unless you want to test current build.
Well let the fun begin!
I know I posted really late and not alot of people have seen it but if you guys don't want me to try its cool just let the mods know to close this.

the configuration of the kernel will determine what it is for, you can take htc source and build a cm7 kernel or vice-versa, you just need to make sure the config is correct for cm7 or sense or whatever you are building for, aosp/miui/cm7 use basicly the same configurations, sense, or other manufacturer made software can require special configuration.
you can pull the .config from your device as a starting point also make sure you use the gcc-4.4.0 toolchain when you build.
if you need more help you can pm me and if i can help i will

Google compiles it themselves on Ubuntu, all the packages can be set up with a tiny amount of work. Now if he wasn't cross compiling, use any distro you want!

Main bug: wifi/camera/camcoder, maybe more.
I know the SDK has AVD, but it's outdated and extremely slow. You can install custom roms on it but only older ones because its based on the yaffs2 filesystem and most current roms use EXT4. I had high hopes for bluestacks too but its locked down pretty tight and I don't see us being able to flash roms to it anytime soon. We have emulators for pretty much everything else, something like this shouldn't be too hard if we work at it. Dynamic recompilation seems to be the best way to go, but feel free to give input if you feel otherwise.
I guess our starting point should be here: http://fms.komkon.org/EMUL8/HOWTO.html
The man who wrote the guide above is some high-end developer that builds emulators for Android, but he seems to be pretty knowledgeable. He has an email you can contact him if you need help with a specific thing: [email protected].
As they come in, I'll list all the information regarding developments in this project in the post below.

Wow! Looks an excellent project for Devs
I have few questions
1. Will be there a possibility to define and emulate specific devices?
2. How ROMs are flashed, the emulator will have a recovery too?
3. How many of you are working on it?

1.) One of the goals would be hardware and kernel emulation, I would imagine they could be set as variables where you could input your own kernel and we could make some predefined hardware options for you to choose from. It would be hard but I think it could be done.
2.) I don't exactly know, but seeing as that's how we already do it we could try. Early alphas would probably be more of a "kitchen" where your menu is in the terminal and you manually put your files in the respective folders.
3.) Just me at the moment, I haven't found anyone to help. I haven't really made too much progress either, right now I'm decompiling AVD to figure out how it runs.
If this works, it would be a lifesaver. I say we should PM you any predefined device settings we want, and have a drop down list that automatically sets it. And to emulate recovery I don't see happening like on our devices, but maybe some of the wipe features, and flashing over a current rom? Also anything you need for help I can do, just ask. I'm good at design, and UI, just can't create it myself. And can you possible make it cross platform? Because I switch between windows and Linux.

Either way, I appreciate the help! Ill PM you if I need a tester and you should pop in every once in awhile to see how things are coming along. I'm not going to lie, this is harder than I thought it was but it seems do-able the more I study AVD.
I'm thinking we might be able to change the filesystem on AVD to run EXT3/EXT4 and get it to run a little smoother and build it to run without eclipse, then modify it to fit our needs.
That's sound good. And anyone who would get the most use of it would be fine with a terminal based one right now, and you can work on a GUI later unless someone else helps you soon. I'll keep checking as this comes along, hopefully it won't take too long to get a preview working.

I've been thinking this over, it would be much easier to add EXT3 and EXT4 support to AVD and tweak it for speed. Im working on it now, ill try to get an early alpha out as soon as I can put it together.

Hi I was just curious if there was kernel development for the N915T, I don't see any. Is there some missing source code or the like? I'd like to see some overclocking, looking at the Note 4 for T-Mobile I see a kernel with OC Support for 2.89 GHz, frankly which I would love to see my Edge hit! If there's the code needed, I wouldn't mind trying to create one too. I am honestly looking for a reason to void my warranty ^_^

Would anyone be willing to test out my kernel before I turn Knox 0x1?

Sure, I've been tinkering with a kernel too but I'm basically learning from scratch. I just want to add a little functionality like setting SELinux permissive and a few other things. A lot of the other stuff people do on XDA is way above my pay grade. lol. Anyways, its fun to learn about. If i can be of help testing let me know.

Awesome! I'm having trouble trying to get everything working on Ubuntu 14.04... I can't even get the git repository working or get linaro to download either. I'm too used to windows.

Yeah new errors. Something about ufs_test.c and then mentions ufs_test.o (which after a quick search not even sure if there is a ufs_test.o) trying to link to something there I think. PM'd a guy, trying to get help.
Will be able to work on it soon I hope. Monday night may end up being the earliest :/

I'm using ubuntu 12.04. Haven't upgraded for a varaiety of reasons but I don't think that should make a difference. Which toolchain did you grab?

Hi. I pretty much followed instructions in the README file for the kernel. Only difference I see is that I used the saber 4.7 version of the tool chain (32bit). Not sure what the differences are between linaro and saber, or which is better for our device. Anyways, you might give it a try.

A few days ago, I believe I made a kernel. It's not in a boot.img just in a zImage. If anyone wants to finish up creating the boot.img and or testing it out, let me know.
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING HAPPENS. I'M WARNING YOU I HAVE NO IDEA IF IT'S EVEN BEEN CREATED PROPERLY. IF YOU TRY THIS KERNEL, YOU HEREBY AGREE THAT ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, NOT MINE.
It should be able to overclock to 2.89 GHz. Also might be able to force the quick charge with anything. Good luck. Thanks.
