I've had a Verizon tablet pretty much since the day they released and have enjoyed all the bells and whistles that the custom roms have offered here on XDA (currently on EOS Nightly 101 for 4G version).
So, my wife's birthday rolled around, she wanted one, I got a great deal on eBay for the MZ602 (Verizon 4G version). Did my homework, made sure it was clear to activate on Verizon account if I chose to do so (everything was perfect). The moment I got it, I unlocked it, rooted it, and flashed an EOS nightly (I flashed the 4g version even tho I didn't have the SIM card - runs perfect, no problems at all). Anyway, we left if as a wifi only version (didn't add it to my Verizon account) for awhile but, of course, this can be limiting when you travel a lot, camp, etc... So, I contacted Verizon, added it to my account, and they shipped out the 4G SIM card 2 day FedEx. I now have the SIM card in my possession for her rooted, Team EOS nightly running MZ602 Xoom.
My question is this...do I need to return her Xoom back to factory stock before inserting the SIM card so it will activate on the Verizon network or can I just pop it in as is running on the rooted Xoom?
Thanks for any help ahead of time...
You just need to pop the sim card in and reboot it if the tablet is on when you do that. And also turn off airplane mode if its on and it will get connect and you will be good to go.

To add to what he or she said, no you don't need to return your xoom back to stock. Just pop the sim card in and reboot. Just make sure that airplane mode is off and mobile data on. You can also choose between 4g\3g or just 3g but I don't know if that really saves any juice while on the go. 4g seem to have better reception in building and through walls, Sao I just leave it on the default 4g\3g option.
You can also use your similar from a 4g phone like the HTC thunderbolt. I do it often when my phone battery is dead or when tethering via Bluetooth/wifi isn't working properly. I have unlimited data on my phone so i just use that.
Xoom 4G + Team EOS ICS nightlies = WIN

I have a very peculiar situation. A few weeks ago I called Verizon's prepaid department and started the process of getting month to month 4G data on my Xoom. When it came to the activation step on the xooms end, it kept coming up as already activated but wouldn't let me access any other page besides the activation page. The VZW rep said there was nothing else she could do for me. About a week later I was swapping the 4G sim card from my HTC Rezound into the Xoom and vice versa. Just for kicks, I powered on my rezound and to my surprise I was getting access to data on it with the xooms sim. Seeing as how the sim works in my phone and not the tablet, I figure that there must be some way to change the APN settings on the Xoom to mimic my phones. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Are you stock? If so root and flash EOS and see if it works. I'm curious about this.
I have the same problem I'm on stock rom I went to the verizon store I went through 3 sim cards and new line. Still will not activate . I bought it of someone who had it rooted before he sold it to me and returned it to stock rom. I updated it from 3.1 all the way to 3.2 and still no help. I going to ship it to Motorola to see I'd they can fix the problem.
I use my AT&T LTE SkyRocket as my daily device which requires an LTE Sim Card (I tried the regular sim card with APN settings from xda and it didn't work). I also have a Captivate that is my backup device in case my SR dies or something. I want to switch out my Captivate for a Galaxy Nexus.
Does anyone know if the LTE Sim Card from my SkyRocket will at least work to provide data on the GSM nexus? Or will I need to have AT&T switch my account to HSPA and get a regular SIM card?
PS. I tried searching and found nothing.
Your sim will work fine in the device. You just wont have LTE. 4G isnt bad though. Your cappy is a 3G. I've always been happy with 3G....dont use alot of data
Your simcard would work fine on any phone. But if the phone doesnt support LTE it will just use 4G and if it doesn't support 4G then 3G.
Eating Kitty's in my Skyrocket fueled by CM9
Had simuliar problem
I recently went from a At&t Galaxy S2 I777 to a Galaxy S2 I727 LTE skyrocket myself found my data didn't work once I switched simcard over to the I727 LTE phone , but once I had data switched to LTE data it worked fine
When I bricked my SR, I put my LTE sim in a 3G captivate. It worked fine. I would assume that it is 'backwards' compatible. But that's just a guess. I could put the sim in my older phones to see but I'm lazy.
I was unaware that the SIM controlled the LTE data access... Wouldn't any SIM work?
Granted, they did give me a new SIM when I went from my 3GS to the Skyrocket, but that may just be since I got it in the store rather than online.
Yeah kinda surprised me when my data would't work on my skyrocket , but I used my same ole sim card in it , with standard data and it just would not work , but did learn the lte data will work on another phone and show data , but when you go from standard data to a LTE phone it won't , lol , once I changed over to LTE data and useing the same simcard , it work's fine now.
But but as far as the answer to the question (( Can you use LTE sim Card in a non_LTE device? )) answer look's like yes , but it won't work going from a standard data sim card unless you change the APN setting's..
I have tested my Skyrocket SIM in my backup phone, which is a Dell Venue and it worked fine. The Venue was purchased unlocked from Dell. I do not know if that makes any difference.
I never could get it to work in my old back flip. But that is an old outdated p.o.s.
I was able to use it on iPhone 3gs

Thanks everyone for your replies. This solidifies my decision to sell my Captivate (used as a backup device) and buy a Galaxy Nexus from Play store.
Now the only thing I will have to decide is which one I will make my primary device:
1) Skyrocket (w 8MP camera)
2) Nexus (w pure Google)
This will be a tough decision since I use my phone camera a LOT and thus the 8MP shooter is important, BUT I also really really really want to install CM9 Black Ice ROM onto the Nexus. I guess I'll find out once I can scrape together enough money for the Nexus.
Thanks again (and feel free to chime in on my SkyRocket vs Nexus dilemma if you want)
I tried using these settings with an ATT Tilt 2/Rhodium and an LTE sim From an iPhone 5. I was able to get the phone and texting to work but not data. I was at a loss until I read this post on the android central forum where the data plans are not compatible... http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-galaxy-s-iii/224898-there-difference-between-lte-sim-3g-sim.html
So now I find myself wondering if the data plan for a Tilt 2 will work in an iPhone 5...
[edit] I confirmed with AT&T that the iPhone 5 data plan is not compatible with an AT&T Tilt2. The Tilt 2 needs a regular "smartphone" plan. Not sure what the difference is.
I was blissfully working just fine on my MZ602 Xoom. I would pop the Micro SIM card out of my phone and into an adapter whenever I wanted to use the Xoom. It worked flawlessly.... that is, until I updated to JellyBean. Now the Xoom will not even SEE a SIM card.
I went to Verizon store today and the guy was about as helpful as diving gear in the sahara. He said you should not be able to pop a phone SIM into a tablet and it works... well that's BS cause I've been doing it for almost 2 years. "Well, then the update must have fixed a bug that allowed you to do that"... no duh sherlock... pop a SIM in from your repository and make sure the things even works still and I'll buy a tablet package. Well, he did and it did the same thing, no connection. "Not under warranty so, sorry man". Thanks for nothing, no I don't want a new tablet!

I have since flashed the ICS radios and have the same issue. I have tried stock, non stock, rooted, non-rooted, Honeycomb with ICS radios, JellyBean radios.... nothign works, it no longer sees a SIM.
Previously when I popped in a SIM it would take a minute or two and then see signal, sometimes requiring a reboot, now it doesn't even recognize that a SIM was inserted. Before even if it wasn't picking up signal and I removed the SIM it would give a warning "SIM removed, reboot?" or somethign like that.
Currently running CM10.1 with the IMM76I radios. Works on WiFi but will not see any SIM card... am I hosed? Any help?!
Anyone?
How about this... Does anyone here still use their 4G Xoom on the Verizon network?
I plan to steal sim card from my wife ipad and try if I can find my sim adaptor. Will let you know.
I can tell you that my xoom no longer shows 4g network but always did before the update even though the sim card wasn't activated.

Did you use Rogue recovery to flash the radios? TWRP and regular CWM don't flash the radios properly.

Yes, used Rogue to manually flash ICS radios to no avail.
Previous load was 100% stock, unrooted on OEM bootloader and using stock recovery so the JB updated radios original flash was done properly.
I tried the Sim card from wife's iPad and it seemed to work OK. Although it seemed to connect a lot more to the 3g network than LTE and I have very song LTE signal. Radio doesn't seem quite as good as Previous.

I bought a house and moved.
No service in the house with Verizon.
So, I switched to AT&T.
AT&T told me I would get HSPA+ with my Verizon S3.
Well... I have 2G, voice, and text.
Anyone have an idea of how to get HSPA+ enabled? Is it possible?
I have a custom ROM, but I can flash anything if it would help.
I don't think it's possible, they run on completely different networks (CDMA Vs GSM) and the phones radios are built accordingly.

I'm leaning toward that. Guess I'll upgrade....

There is a way cant remember where i read it, maybe on the t-mobile forum. I recently bricked my att device and came across a verizon variant and was able to use it for att with out having it sim unlocked just a few hours ago steps taken were as follows:
After swapping the motherboards i factory reset the non rooted verizon device from the settings menu as I was just going to sell it on ebay. I had been using wifi only on a sim locked t-mobile device but the camera was not working so i switched back to the verizon and was prompted to complete the set up after i booted the device with no sim card inside. I got the no sim card message and ran the app Region Lock Away that has a red circle icon and a black unlocked pad lock by chainfire. I was skeptical 1 for the device not being rooted but tried anyway. The app said it was not able to verfiy root and closed; however once I inserted my att sim card without powering off the device i saw signal bars. Now Im not sure the app actually did anything and I might have tried the app before resetting it without success but after checking the network mode in the mobile networks tab it now shows Global as the preferred network. So i started texting people and then calling all with success. Now im still on the edge network and this may not solve your issue but I remember seeing the work around I think it has to do with correcting the APN settings but there is always a way to get things done. Keep looking you will find it. Im just happy to have cell service again but Ill be looking for the thread in a day or so as well.
Forced into an AT&T phone. It worked for 4 days then stopped. Their tech support claims the tap wasn't compatible and they don't know why it worked
I had 2g for those 4 days
I'm always on wifi but noticed my data wasn't working so not an ideal switch but if you are in a bind it does work. I'm still running at&t network on this Verizon motherboard just fine

I don't know what happened but all inbound calls on day 4 went direct to voicemail. I reset phone, flashed different ROM.... Nothing
I've got a Verizon HTC M8 running DigitalHigh GPE 5.0.1 12/21 build, stock kernel.
I've had 4g issues with the phone since the first time I ever flashed away from stock. And the whole RUU back to stock and factory reset thing has never worked for me. The phone simply refuses to stay connected to 4G...
The first time I had the issue and I couldn't resolve it I called Verizon. Was sent through to tech support, who "opened a ticket" and told me I would hear from them once it was resolved. Never heard from them, but the issue did go away on it's own and the phone connected to LTE once more on its own. I was running BoneStock ROM at the time (this was back in August 2014).
Fast forward to November and I decide to switch to GPE and I start seeing 4G issues again. My phone would connect to LTE at first boot but once my Sim "activated" it would only connect to 3G from there out. I tried everything to get it back. I did RUU back to stock and factory reset, I flashed new radios, etc...
Finally I activated a new SIM that I had laying around and BAM! LTE service again.
... For a few days. And then back to 3G only.
I used an app called 4G switcher to force my phone to connect to a 4G signal and when I did that it showed that I was roaming... So I would dial *226 and update my roaming list and it would no longer say I'm roaming and would say I'm connected to LTE... For about 10 minutes and then back to 3G only.
I went to the Verizon. Wireless store today and they gave me a new sim and told me to call prepay customer service to see if I can get a warranty replacement. The new SIM instantly connected to LTE and has been connected for almost 6 hours now.
Is there something wrong with my phone that it keeps frying the SIM or could there be an issue with my account on Verizon's end, maybe something telling it to reprogram my SIM to not connect to 4g?
I have used my phone overseas for a month with a European SIM and a service that was only 3G, not sure if that would be relevant at all.
I'm fairly sure your problems aren't on Verizon's side. From reading over the thread, the GPE ROM certainly appears to cause some folks issues regarding LTE service. GPE wasn't designed to run on Verizon. It might be a good idea to stick with something built from a Verizon ROM.
Its a Lollipop thing. Happens on gpe, and Aosp 5.0 ROMs. Just wait till official gets out and they should figure out a fix.
