P6200L converted to P7560 - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

Hi guys. I get new ICS firmware pack directly from the OEM, but when i first try to upload it into the device using Odin 1.85, the device got corrputed.
It can only boot up in flash mode (which means is not completly wroken), and the model displayed there is P7560 and the flasher counter changed to 1.
Of course the rest of the flashing process has failed several times.
After contacting the OEM for support, they had created a custom PDA section for my problem, and the flashing went fine, but now the device is not recognizing the touch of my fingers.
They told me that, somehow, the first firmware package has corrupted the boot.bin (where the kernel information is), and they have to recover it with some secret process they are not allowed to share.
Does any one have a clue what they are talking about????
thanks

yes and no.
first can you can you kindly share more info about getting the ICS firmware leak? We dont want to get anyone in trouble, etc. just curious. Are you sure it wasnt someone playing a cruel joke?? GT-P7560 is a Tab Plus w/3G 32GB if not mistaken the GT-P6200L is 16GB.
What did you mean by "he created a custom PDA section for you"?
As for the "secret process", could be a number of things. Could be reinstalling touchscreen firmware or a new boot.bin, which arent incredibly secret. Most likely he probably just wants to reset your custom flash counter binary(and perhaps a second hidden secret counter as well, that supposedly counts how many times your 1st counter has been reset..if such a thing exists). There is an app by @ChainfireXDA which will reset your custom binary count(dispayed in Download Mode) on ICS.
Please keep us up to date on any new findings.
Well I think this *unofficially* officially confirms someone from Samsung is /actually working/ on this update.

Hi there. I am 100% sure it was not a joke. I get this firmware from someone inside the company. Don't want to give more details about that for not burn anyone
That person didn't know much about what he was giving to me, so he putted me in touch with someone more in engeneering enviroment, for his language.
They asked me for some details, and after that they sent me the file i mentioned before. I flashed the tablet and it came back to life, with its limitations on the touch, and i can not do anything with it
I suggested this idea of reseting the counter, the same way we did for the I9000 for example, but they told me that because of that mismatch of models, that won't be possible.
Do you know how to run that program from download mode? or recovery mode?
thanks

so after giving them your details they gave you this mismatch firmware. yikes.
would it be possible to share the leaked package they gave you? I dont want anyone to flash it, just the devs to have a look.
worst case scenario : they look at it and says its total rubbish.
best case scenario.. they fix camera and wifi, etc...
It may be possible to reset flash counter from recovery mode using a script.
If we knew about their secret process, it wouldnt be a secret. Obviously more than just Odin though.
They didnt happen to whisper any release dates did they?
thank you.

edit: this post proves its possible... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1578184
however he is doing a raw write which is very dangerous, using an untouched secondary bootloader.
It may be even easier using a script, Chainfire's method knows the location of this variable, and just changes the number. I would try it that way if I had to.

hi!
can you give me the converted software for p7560, because i didn t find anywhere. I want to try that, because my tab dont want to start.
Thank you!

CWM 5.0.2.7 restore issue

CWM Backup and Restore: It backs up fine. But it won't restore. I can't remember the error message...something about rfs and can't mount. I know that's not much help. I was wondering if anyone besides me has had problems restoring with this version of CWM, and has a fix for this problem. I have presently done several backups of my stock rooted GB 2.3.6. And I can't restore any of them. As a noob to the Samsung Charge, I have very little knowledge to work with on this. But it seems to me that I read something somewhere that said I needed to use ADB to do something. Darned if I can remember where I saw it. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
The last version that I know of that had Backup/Restore working properly in was the 0817 version but hell if I know where you can get it.
I have it on my hard drive for my own personal reasons but imnuts has said that I can't upload it or redistribute it in any way. I personally can use the file if I so choose to keep it but I can't upload it to anywhere.
Perhaps you can IM imnuts to send you a copy of the 0817 version.

if you don't mind my asking why is it banned from being posted now? that's the orange 4.0.1.4 version that was up publicly for months and had few issues besides the voodoo menu being removed/disabled... I guess if imnuts ok's it I'll post or pm a link to anyone who needs it
He got pissed at me for having a link to it, that's all. If you want to attach it to your reply, be my guest. I just don't know what will happen.

I have found that CWM 5.0.2.7 has removed "Voodoo" from the menu. Anyone know why? I'm just trying to figure out why my nandroid restore function does not restore. Being a noob to the Samsung phone, I can only guess that it has something to do with the existing partition format when restore begins. IOW, is it the same as the backup? If not, it will fail. Am I getting close, or am I still clueless?

backups may or may not work with the new 5.x CWM, some people say they can do it and doesn't work for others so I'd just stick with the 4.x CWM... voodoo options were removed from CWM due to them not working right or not working at all sometimes when trying to disable lagfix which caused bootloops and softbricks
Same problem on Samsung Epic 4G. Backed up rooted stock FC09 & flashed to CM9 Beta 3. Attempted to restore the stock FC09 & error message popped up. I tried this with & without data/cache/dalvic cache etc., etc. wipes. Same problem either way. I also noticed the time stamp on the backup was dated 2005. Wayyy offf ! ! ! Did you have the same incorrect date stamp? I wonder if changing the date on the backup will fix the issue.
---------- Post added at 07:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:14 PM ----------
Just Reposting To Give Further Detailed Info
I'm sure you already know of this issue but, I'll re-post here as from my understanding, this is updated most often & I'm really amped about this project.
Major stock Samsung Epic 4G Gingerbread FC09 restore issue.
I did this exactly:
1) Started stock FC09
2) Odin to cwm-5.0.2.7-epic4g.tar.md5
3) Flashed cm-9-20120507-SNAPSHOT-epicmtd-beta3-pre9.zip using CWM 5.0.2.7 recovery mode (volume down, camera button & power button combo)
4) Backed up rooted stock
5) Attempted to restore the stock FC09 to make sure it works before I got too into the new release
6) Error message popped up
7) I tried this with & without data/cache/dalvic cache etc., etc. wipes. Same problem either way. I also noticed the time stamp on the backup was dated 2005. Wayyy offf ! ! ! Did you have the same incorrect date stamp? I wonder if changing the date on the backup will fix the issue.
Again, my deepest apologies but, right now, I'm like the kid who missed the ice-cream truck. I'm not new to flashing but, am new to trying to run a restore. I only wanted the stock FC09 back because Swype wasn't included in the CM9 Beta 3 release & the text messaging background is white (kinda thwarts the sleek, stealthy black color scheme). Will there be a black text messaging background soon? Let me know if I can install Swype using Titanium Backup or any app backup app. If I can at least have Skype, I'll be good as my Beta 2 Bluetooth issue has been corrected.
---------- Post added at 08:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:52 PM ----------
Sorry. I meant to say I flashed Deodexed-FC09-BML.zip before I flashed cm-9-20120507-SNAPSHOT-epicmtd-beta3-pre9.zip
---------- Post added at 08:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:03 PM ----------
Brain farts today >.< I also ran a CM9 Beta 3 backup before I attempted the stock FC09 restore. After the FC09 restore failed, I tried the CM9 Beta 3 restore & that worked perfectly so, again, my suspicions lye in the wrong date stamp factor. At some point tonight, I'll test this theory and post the results. If anyone beats me to the punch, awesomeness.
So you bumped a 5 month old thread in the Charge forum to say you had a similar issue with an Epic 4G?
Well
Whatever the case may be, the rules of the site are to post similar questions/concerns in a relevant thread that has already been started. I had no idea this was the "charge" forum as nothing above clearly states that. And instead of just saying the generic, "same problem", I opted to give as much detail as possible considering we're dealing with later released software.

You can clearly see at the top of the screen what forum your in. CWM is individually built for each phone, and not every phone is going to support the same features in the same way. Chances are, no one here is going to know anything about the Epic unless someone here just happens to own one.
Wow
Man that thing's tiny. But, as I stated, I didn't notice that & I only posted because the rules say try not to start a new thread concerning a topic that's already been posted. I'm aware each CWM is custom to every phone. I posted the exact details in case someone does notice this thread & has a solution or a definite no it can't be done. I have read on other posts that CWM will restore other custom non-stock ROMs just fine. One source claims people have been able to restore stock back-ups just fine while others have not. But, there were no definite solutions or enough details to go on. Still waiting for a return on that.
XDA (and others) are built around the idea of device specific forums as there are many differences between devices, even in the same family, that prevent anything for one device from working on another. The Droid Charge, as an example, is in the Galaxy S family, but none of the Galaxy S stuff will work directly on it. Even further, the Galaxy S Aviator and the Droid Charge are the same hardware for different carriers, and nothing for the Charge will work on the Aviator. Don't hesitate to make a thread in one device forum just because a thread exists in a different device forum. There's a "Search this forum" button at the top of every subforum. Use it for your device, and post in that forum if you can't find anything.
O.O
Well now I know I've been up to long. I didn't even realize the fact he said "Samsung Charge" nor was I aware there is a Samsung phone called Charge. But, in my defense, I attempted to start a new thread but, as I was typing out a title for the post, the site showed suggestions of other posts that may have my issue already resolved or at least discussed and this one seemed to be the closest. Had I known the Charge was a phone, it may have stuck out more & I would've known I was in the wrong place -_- Silly me. I am glad to announce however that after a little tinkering, I think I have found the solution to my issue. I'll post any results and details in the proper forum. Sorry for any inconveniences.

[ROM][ODIN] I497UCBMF2 AT&T 4.1.2 Firmware (Rooted)

I497UCBMF2 AT&T 4.1.2 Firmware (Rooted)
For some unusual reason there is little to no development for the SGH-I497 and absolutely ZERO official firmware available for the AT&T model. This means, if you soft brick the tablet trying to install something you should not have, you have no easy way of getting back to the stock firmware. In addition, getting to the 4.1.2 version of the AT&T firmware is a royal pain due to the massive amount of "PATCH CHECKS" and assert checks built in to the OTA update. This means any deodexed system or a number of other reasons will be rejected if you try the OTA update while on non-official or approved firmware. So, for your convenience, I have compiled a simple ODIN-Flashable TAR file which will jet you up to speed installing the latest official AT&T 4.1.2 firmware.
Details:
I497UCBMF2 Stock w/ Root Pre-Installed (NO MODEM INCLUDED AS I DON'T HAVE THIS. IF YOU HAVE STOCK 4.1.2 INSTALLED WITH THE MF2 MODEM, PLEASE SEND ME THE MODEM AND I'LL ADD IT TO THE ODIN PACKAGE)
Package Includes: SBL2, SBL3, ABOOT, RPM, TZ, BOOT, RECOVERY, SYSTEM AND CACHE ZONES
Download:
I497UCBMF2 AT&T 4.1.2 Firmware (Rooted)
Password on the archive is: www.mobiletechvideos.com
How To Flash:
BACKUP YOUR FILES AND DATA BEFORE FLASHING...ALWAYS. First extract this file using WinRAR or a program capable of extracting a RAR package as the package inside it is the TAR file you need. This was done to save time on the download. Once extracted, using ODIN, select PDA and choose this file. Now place your tablet in DOWNLOAD MODE by having it powered off, then power on by holding POWER and VOLUME DOWN until you see the on-screen text come up. Release the buttons and press VOLUME UP to enter DOWNLOAD MODE. Now click START on ODIN. Once completed (takes around 10 minutes), it is advised to enter RECOVERY MODE and perform a FACTORY DATA RESET for the best bug free experience since I don't know what ROM you are flashing from.
Did this help you out? Great, I'm glad it did! Click that THANKS button next to my name if you have the time. Please note, if you find yourself in a hard/soft brick situation of any type on any advice, give me a shout via PM or email through the contact page on our site.
RESERVED...
If you have downloaded and flashed, please report back your results...
17 Downloads and no reports?
Not work,pls fix it,my screenshot
Stuck on download mode
Try to flash it again. I tested it a few times and it's been downloaded over 30 times with no negative reports. If it is still problematic for you, I'll upload a cache free version...
Mine is still pretty clean, which block do you need.
Do you have MF2 stock modem?
What are peoples experiences with this? Did they lose their modem?
You won't lose your modem, it just doesn't include the MF2 modem as I can't locate one is all. Also, there have been 66 downloads and no reports so I imagine all is well. I strongly believe the person above with poor English did something incorrect when installing due to that many downloads with no ill reports. I do wish someone would just flash and report afterwards though!
I just received this response from user "dobermanchik"...
"Hi,
I cannot post into the developers board so I am reduced to using this private message system. I'd like to thank you for that firmware. It works great for me and I have no issues so far. I was able to unlock additional languages and overall the system is stable and bugless. Thanks again."
ill give it flash and let you know
cr*p i just soft bricked my tablet by trying to change the font hope this works will report back after i flash.

ATT Samsung SGH 1497 Tablet unlock bootloader
Hi,
I appreciate your work on this device. You have noticed like me that little is out there for this device. You have provided some nice workarounds to update this tablet, however, I cannot find anywhere, a way to unlock to boot loader. I have carrier unlock from ATT, and cannot seem to fins a way to root this tablet.
You seem to have already accomplished this and I wanted to ask for your help to unlock my Samsung SGH 1497 ATT Tablet.
If you could help, I will rave about you on XDA!
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Mark (hammeru)

I successfully used your posted firmware to revive my 10.1 samsung!
thanks.

problem and feedback if it works...
Hi. I am pretty new here (although I have been a member for a while, I have not really been active). I do have a Sprint Samsung Galaxy tab 2 10.1 inch display model P500VPBMB3. Perhaps I can try out what you are talking about if it helps me with my problem below and then I will be more than happy to give you feedback.
PROBLEM
I never really rooted a device before but I am at a loss here since the current version of Android that I have on my device is 4.1.2 . It's working OK but I run out of space very often since I only have 16GB of main memory. I would love to upgrade to 4.2.x so that I have the option of storing apps on the external SD card. I am not clear exactly what you are giving us here on your thread. If you can explain it to me and especially if it does what I am outlining above I would want done, I would love to give it a shot and then give you some feedback.
Either way thank you for helping is Sprint tablet people whether or not what you have above will help me.
Thanks

You will actually want to look into custom recovery combined with a custom ROM to enable this type of option. What I have provided here is a stock firmware (stock operating system). This is actually already what you have installed on the device.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. You seem to be a helpful sort of person. I am sorry to be so dense but I have no idea what those things are. Is there a place where I can, sort of begin from scratch to learn all about these things or can you please fully explain what I need to do here?
I get that yo said that what you are offering is what I already have. What I don't understand is what exactly what to look for. I do know that if I install the wrong thing, I can brick my device. What I don't know if how to find what I am looking for. I already tried it in the search box-that's how I got to your thread.
This is honestly a very tough section as the P500 is a rare unit that has little to no development. You are in the right sub-forum but finding any mods for your unit may not be possible at this time unfortunately.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! You can root with Kingo root and make modifications with xposed. I just have been so busy with work.
I will flash this when I have time. Now I can be more risky with flashing because I can now go back to stock ROM.

Hello, I know its been almost a year, but I tried to flash this ROM and get stuck after the tab reboots with the message "POWER RESET or UNKNOWN UPLOAD MODE", is there anything I can do to restore the tab (I did not do any backup).
Thanks a bunch
Do you have the Sprint model? If so, try re-downloading it and flashing again. Afterwards, perform a factory data reset.

The tab comes from China but in the options i've seen SPH-P500 so I supposed it was a model made for Sprint.
I did flash again and reset factory but nothing changed.

That is definitely unusual though the fact it came from China. This likely is NOT the right firmware for your model. The back of the unit should have the model number. See what it says...

Wow!! I made a mistake!! I bought this tab to have some fun rooting and installing custom roms. I should have checked the forums first to see if there was any support. Thanks for what you've provided here. I'm going to at least try to root and install xposed.
I have a sprint gtab2 10.1 that's out of contract, so i'm willing to start working on things if needed.
if we no longer need to use the Sprint data can we flash a SPH-P5100 rom for wifi only ?
resurrecting an old thread. Need to find the original firmware for sph-p500. This appears to be it, but I can't find or get the password to the .rar file. I can't find the firmware anywhere else after a TON of google searches. any help appreciated in either getting the password to the .rar file, or a different place to download the firmware.

SAMSUNG GALAXY SIII SCH-S968C Rooted, Recovery Flashed, and Flashed with Custom Rom

Before I go on to give tutorial, I want to see how many people actually use this phone and if it's common enough for me to give the tutorial. I've noticed many people have tried to flash this phone and always end up bricking it or doing something wrong. I have successfully flashed it, no brick and everything working. I would love to give tutorial, but before I do so I must see how many actually need it. :good:

But you say you only want recovery? Download an app called ez-recovery for VZW Galaxy S3 on the play store. Yes this is the Verzion Galaxy S3 Variant but it works for this device because of where it uses uses Verizon towers. Then once you download the app, open it up and flash the clockworkmod recovery, not the touch or twrp. Let me know your results You might come across some failed to mount SD card errors in the recovery menu. If you do it doesn't take a lot to fix..

I have been driving myself crazy trying to find this information. I would be very grateful to you for the information on flashing the firmware and upgrading to KitKat 4.4 on the SCH S968C. It's impossible to get the info from ST or Samsuck.
Thanks

i use this model and have been surfing these forums for some links to the stock rom since samsung doesn't provide it on their website. I was going to try to flash it back to stock but to be honest i have no idea what im doing and could use all the help i can get.
I've looked all over and watched and listened and read, and other than using oneclickroot to root my sch-968c, I'm too apprehensive on doing anything else before I know better. It's using 4.1.2 jellybean and theres a few things that I'd like my phone to be able to do considering its cost. I want to get KitKat 4.4 on my Galaxy s3. Samsung doesn't offer support, Straight Talk doesn't offer support. I understand its up to me to make this happen but I'd appreciate any help! Thanks!!
edit: So I havent used oneclickroot yet, I needed to download a samsung driver. I did use odin to flash a rom onto my device properly, but I'm pretty sure all i did was put exactly what I had on before it. Maybe I need to look for a custom rom, but I have a hard time finding the right sources. I need to look for a custom rom for sch-s968c with 4.4 kitkat? Need someone to tell me otherwise...

this would be awesome

Most of the ROMS from 4.4 and newer require using a SIM and some extra setup to get mobile data(3G) and stock MMS(photo/audio/video messages) working.
Fortunately for you I have a copy of a CM11 4.4 Kit Kat ROM that doesn't require a SIM for mobile data(3G) to work, the only down side is that you can't use the stock MMS app, you'd have to use some kind of 3rd party texting app such as GoSMS or Textra or Chomps or a similar app.
If you want to have working stock MMS then you'll need a CDMA SIM card.
A GSM SIM will not work. A SIM from AT&T/T-mobile or any network under them won't work, neither will the AT&T/T-mobile SIMs from the Straight Talk BYOP activation package, it has to be CDMA.
I can help you painlessly get the SIM set up and APNs configured correctly so that MMS works. Any CDMA Verizon 4G/LTE(you'll need a previously activated SIM if you use a Verizon SIM, it won't work if it's a never been activated SIM from Verizon) or a Tracfone CDMA SIM will work, or any of Tracfone's subsidiary networks (Total Wireless/Net10/Straight Talk/etc..)
As for ROMs, I suggest one of the following:
1) the d2vzw CM11 4.4 that I have a copy of along with a SIM(you'll have working stock MMS and won't need anything extra) it's a rock solid ROM with the SIM setup correctly and uses less battery than the newer ROMs.
2) d2vzw OctOS 5.1.1 if you can find it, it will need a SIM also to have working mobile data and stock MMS.
3) d2vzw OctOS 6.1.1 if you can find it, needs SIM also.
As for there being bad information out there about this device. I've been posting accurate information about this model number for 3 years or more. I've posted information about this model all over the internet. It is all accurate and works, some information is old and no longer necessary due to processes and methods changing but it isn't "bad" information. The old information can still be used, it just involves more steps and has been simplified over time due to improvements in development for this device.

Need to upgrade to at least Android 4.2

Can you help me? You seem to be very knowledgeable about this phone. My husband just bought a new Galaxy and he gave his old S3 to our seven year old grandson who is one of those kids who loves and understands all things electronic. He has been craving an Android device for some time now. (He already has an iPod touch).
My husband returned the phone to factory settings today and I brought it over to a very excited grandson. My daughter said she was going to use her gmail account to set up the phone and then create an additional account from her account that she could use parental controls on. Alas, this feature only works if you have at least version 4.2 or higher, and this Straight Talk Model S968C has version 4.1.2
This phone will not be connected to a cellular service, just wifi. He doesn't need to be able to send or receive MMS or even texts. He mostly wants to create videos and and download and use some of his favorite apps from Google Play, and use the web (with restrictions that my daughter will set. It won't help to create a separate Gmail account for him because setting restrictions will still not be possible due to the Android Version.
Is there a relatively easy way to do this? I've never done anything like this to a phone before but I'm pretty tech literate and understand most of the terms.
Thank you very much for any help you can provide to me.

Go to settings>about>build number, tell me if it has H1 or H2 on the end of that number.
If you have H1 I can make it very easy for you with just a couple of apps, a good internet connection and about 30-45 minutes.
If you have H2 you'll need a PC, about 1.5 hours and a good USB cord.
Or you can skip all of that and just go straight for the PC method, it works on H1 and H2. You'll probably need to get familiar with the tool that is involved in the process so that you'll know how to restore the device if there are issues later on. The device will be rooted(stock devices do not ship with root access), root means the system partition has been "unlocked" to write permissions, which means the daughter/grandson could inadvertently delete the wrong thing and render the device inoperable.
Of course, you could also remove root from the device, then he wouldn't be able to modify the system partition, he could install and modify/customize everything else though. But that can, in some cases, also cause issues, which then requires flashing the stock firmware via PC or using custom recovery to restore a backup or reinstall your ROM.
This device has the potential to do many things, there are a lot of custom 4.4 and newer operating systems for this device, each with their own flavors of UI and features. If you're not going to have the device activated on a network then you can probably use any of the 4.4+ ROMs without the SIM, probably all the way up to the newest 7.1 or newer builds. Maybe even the new Android Oreo 8.0+ if they build it for this device, someone probably will, the OctOS team still builds new ROMs weekly for this device. If he likes Pokemon Go you might have issues with it seeing that the device is rooted or you might have GPS issues on this device. They can be solved in most cases though.

Upgrading s3
The build number ends in H1.
I wouldn't want it to be easy for him to accidentally render it inoperable.
I have a good internet connection and the time to do this, if you can take me step by step through it. I'm a visual learner, I learn very well from watching videos of people doing things, so I really need clear step by step written instructions. Do you have the time to help me? That would be SO great!
And if it's just as easy to install a more up to date version of the OS, of course I'd rather do that! (and my grandson would be thrilled!)
Thank you so much!

He probably doesn't care about Pokemon Go. he likes to create his own emojis, make videos with visual and sound effects, use graphics programs, stuff like that. Also loves music and likes to download apps to create his own music. The more photography and graphics stuff he can do the happier he'll be.
I just want him to be able to use it and he can't without the parental restrictions in place. Whatever you recommend, I'll try.
It's H1, cool. You'll be amazed how easy this is. You'll be doing all of this, except downloading your ROM and Google apps, directly from the device.
Use PC to download these files then connect the S3 to PC and copy them to external SD card.
1) download this file, it's the last release of Octos 6.0.1 marshmallow(there is also 7.1.1 available but I haven't used it so I can't verify stability), it's a very good ROM, I used it for over a year on this device, store it on an external SD card as a file by itself, not in a folder.
https://basketbuild.com/filedl/devs...lease/d2vzw/OCT-M-R3-6.0.1-20161025-d2vzw.zip
2) Go to http://opengapps.org/, select:
ARM
6.0
Micro
Then click the red download circle. This is the Gapps(the stock Google apps) package that you need to flash with the ROM, they are flashed separately because they can't be included in the ROM file. Place this file on the SD card with the ROM file, as a file by itself, not in a folder.
Now, on the device:
1) Go to system settings>security> unknown sources and enable it (it will prompt you warning that it can be dangerous to install apps from unknown sources, you only need it to install the Towelroot app to root on the device).
Also, go to system settings>about>build number, tap it repeatedly until you see the message saying you are a developer, this unlocks developer options, go back to system settings>developer options>USB debugging and enable it.
2) using the devices mobile browser, go to https://towelroot.com/ and tap the big red lambda symbol to download the Towelroot app. (you might get a warning about the site being dangerous, don't worry, this is because Google sees the Towelroot app as a virus because it can be used to modify your system partition which is actually what you want, you will be removing root when you're done but right now you need it)
3) Drag down the notification in status bar for the app that you downloaded, tap on it and install the app, once installed, open it, tap the "make it rain" button, you'll be rooted in about 10 seconds, you can uninstall the Towelroot app now, it isn't needed anymore.
4) Go to PlayStore and search for "SuperSU", install it, open it, it will ask you to update binaries, when it asks which method, choose "normal", reboot the device if it doesn't do it automatically. (if you get a prompt asking you to grant superuser permission while doing this, grant it, this is what allows you to write to /system)
5) when the device reboots, go to PlayStore, search for "TWRP Manager", install it, open it(grant superuser permission if prompted at any time while using TWRP Manager)
Now you're ready to follow my guide, starting from the ***FLASHING WITH TWRP MANAGER*** section.
When you get TWRP installed, skip to the ***BACKING UP YOUR STOCK ROM** section and continue from there, you can ignore all the stuff about SIM and APNs. I recommend doing a clean install of your ROM, coming from stock to custom ROM usually causes a bootloop, clean install avoids this. After you get your backup created, read the troubleshooting section in post #2 of my guide, it explains how to perform a clean install, just make absolutely sure that you create your stock backup before you do it. You will be wiping the operating system and everything on the device out before installing the new ROM, don't worry, everything is still safe in the backup you created. This is similar to wiping a PC and reinstalling Windows, the device won't boot without OS so you must flash the new ROM before trying to reboot the device. Sounds scary but it's really simple.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...de-to-flashsetup-sim-apn-cm-cm-based-t3351290
After you get the device signed in with Google, you can go ahead and remove root permission from the device. To do this, open the SuperSU app, open its app settings menu, find the option to "cleanup for unroot and uninstall", it will remove root. Reboot the device and you should be done. You're ready to setup for the grandson.
Just make sure you charge the battery to full before you start flashing the ROM and Gapps, if the battery dies before it is finished, it will damage the device and it's a headache to fix yourself.
If you have questions I'm here.

The Verizon S3 d2vzw and the Straight Talk S3 d2tfnvzw are the same device, they use the same TWRP and ROMs. That is all explained in the guide that I created, starting from the top of the thread. I'm having a little trouble with downloading towelroot to the phone. Found the link/lambda symbol fine. When I tap it to download and swipe down the notifications, it just shows that it's in progress. This went on for about ten minutes before I canceled it and tried again. It's now been about three minutes and it's doing the same thing. I have a very fast internet connection with Xfinity so it's not that. Just keep canceling and trying? (I even tried holding down the lambda symbol and saving the link--same problem). The phone is fully charged. I have unknown sources checked and also USB debugging.
ADDENDUM: I've tried this a few times now. I tried using Chrome to see if that would help--it didn't. The download is in progress for about ten minutes, then says download failed no matter what browser. I've double and triple checked all the settings are correct.
Is it possible to download it to my laptop and transfer it to the phone?
ADDENDUM: finally got it!
Thanks.
Sorry to have so many questions! I appreciate your help.
flashing recovery
Got to the point of using TWRP Manager. Selected device ( Verizon S3 d2vzw) and it downloaded the file and asked if I wanted to flash the recovery and said please make sure the bootloader is unlocked. (I didn't see that in the guide but will go back and look again). I said yes. I got an error message:
Something went wrong
flashing recovery was unsuccessful. Either you already have this recovery installed or another error has occurred. Would you like to attempt rebooting to recovery now?
I'm just going to leave the phone on until I get your opinion of how I should answer that question. Reboot or no?
Thank you!

I've never had issues using TWRP manager.
Are you sure that you have rooted the device before trying TWRP manager? There is an option in TWRP manager that will show you the "installed recovery" that you have currently on the device, it should tell you whether you have stock recovery or custom. Don't reboot until you're certain that it has flashed the recovery. If it did something wrong before, it might not reboot, slight chance but possible. Still fixable if it doesn't, just more junk to do to get there.
Can you find the folder that TWRP manager downloaded the recovery.img file to? If so, you can install the Flashify app from Playstore, also linked in my guide. Then use it to flash the recovery.img from the folder that TWRP manager downloaded it to. I mention in my guide to use Flashify if you have issues using TWRP Manager.
This should be a simple process, I've done this many times. Since you're having issues, I'd rather have some form of faster communication. Do you know how to use Google hangouts? If you have Firefox on PC you can install the hangouts add-on in Firefox, then I can text in real time to make this much simpler to walk you through. I can send you a PM here with my Gmail address, use it to find me in hangouts and start a conversation thread.

[ROM][Odin](Stock PL1) (QI1 linked)Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge SM-J327P

This is the Odin ROM of the PL1 software for the Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge. It was pulled from Smart Switch, which is the replacement to Kies. This is specifically for the SM-J327P for Sprint. It would appear that Boost and Virgin Mobile variants can be flashed as they are used on Sprint's network, but no promises will be made.
By using these files, any user assumes the responsibility for their devices, that they understand how to use the files and software, and accept any and all risks involved with such operations.
When selecting the files in Odin, one must select the appropriate files based on the prefix of the file name. Each of the four boxes must have a file listing.
In the "CSC" box, use the file beginning with "home_CSC" to retain your user data, or use the "CSC" file to completely wipe user data. If you bricked your device, you may need to resort to using the "CSC" file. If you flash with "home" and it still fails to work, use "CSC." (that's my understanding of the two files anyways)
If you are down-grading, you may have to select the "NAND erase all" check box. This will completely wipe the device and should allow a fresh install. Be careful, if the phone dies, I would worry about a hard brick, but I'm not positive about that though.

There have been several reports that these Odin ROMs fail to flash. If that happens to you, you may be able to try an alternate procedure here. Keep in mind this procedure will trip Knox and probably void warranty if you haven't done that already:

The newer QI1 version is posted here, and has been confirmed:

I'm not sure what the difference between the "CSC" and the "HOME _CSC" files is (or that it really matters), but I'd imagine that if one is resorting to this, then someone could tell us... Based on my previous devices, I'd recommend the "CSC" file.

The system ROM is actually about five and a half gigabytes based on the storage info in the device settings (on my device anyways). So here's what I'm thinking makes sense for space required. I'm just gonna round the decompiled ROM up to 6GB to allow room to play with. Here's the space you'll need at a minimum:
1. 6GB for the compiled ROM.
2. 6GB for the decompiled ROM.
3. 6GB minimum for working with the ROM, so that your source is unmodified.
4. 6GB for the recompiled ROM.
So you'd need a minimum of 24 GB to work with, but the more you have, the more breathing room you have. This is just my 2¢... As for the rest of it, I have no real clue.
I just bought the j327p last week and I am returning it today if I can't get the tethering to work.
I tried editing a lot of the easily searchable fixes which there aren't many.
Do you know if installing this might work?
Just obtained this phone from Boost Mobile. Am I correct in thinking that this ROM should work on a Boost Mobile phone seeing as Boost is an MVNO of Sprint?

Actually Wanam got xposed working on our device. Nice tut but its really almost standard issue when dealing with samsung. Im guessing this is your first galaxy phone? Personally done myself on the galaxy s4 sch r970 (ya the one from 2013.. ), j7 j700t and this galaxy emerge 327p, there are also many tutorials on how to do so, thanks for trying to help, but you could have just linked wanams thread wich has all cautions and tuts in like 12 words a HUGE thanks to Wanam for spending countless hours making a modded version of xposed that is compatible with ours as well as many other galaxy devices!!!

Choose to stay away from "main stream" phones for a number of reasons.
But at the request of your post, link has been updated!

This is the Odin ROM of the PL1 software for the Samsung Galaxy J3 Emerge. It was pulled from Smart Switch, which is the replacement to Kies. This is specifically for the SM-J327P for Sprint.
By using these files, any user assumes the responsibility for their devices, that they understand how to use the files and software, and accept any and all risks involved with such operations.
When selecting the files in Odin, one must select the appropriate files based on the prefix of the file name. Each of the four boxes must have a file listing. I'm not sure what the difference between the "CSC" and the "HOME _CSC" files is (or that it really matters), but I'd imagine that if one is resorting to this, then someone could tell us... Based on my previous devices, I'd recommend the "CSC" file.

I'm having a severe problem right now... I'm praying this works. I keep getting a "SECURE CHECK FAIL : ABOOT" error with every firmware I try. I have a bricked j3 emerge.
do you have any tips on which file I can put where in odin? I was patient to let this download... and I feel like this is the closest thing I have that will get it working.

In Odin, put each file in the correct section "ex. APxxx goes in AP section."
Use CSCxxx file NOT Home_CSCxxx in CSC section. All data will be lost.
Brick problem will be solved. Let me know if you need a tut created.

If refering to me as this being my first Samsung that would be a negative....mainly all ive dealt with or care to deal with besides a few exceptions ( IOS Not EVER being one of those) After all thesr years of either referring quickly to this site or the last 2 1/2 pouring countless hours learning random device or specific ...usefull or not (* Few times have i bee let downyet its been an occurance.. worth noting) I belived it was time to throw my hat inthe ring.
So mainly besides wanting to recontribute the resources I have.....mostly my hours of studying and stuff i picked up retentetion being put work and the test and the Love of Working in A Linux Terminal
(*Flavor preference is not important.)
And the Fact that I have a Laptop that can process at about 3.7ghz with 8 threads if you include hyperthreading...along with my growing older and not wanting to Let small contributions like that and Development left saught after by the few.....and honestly which matters in some places I am only scraping by so Financially I have nothing to offer the community along with Tha Mad Love I have for everything XDA ....put that together and you got me doing what I can..Lately it hasnt been to much but wait around and other issues that have eaten away at time leaving me unable to do simple things such as deodex......tho I was looking to do it the hard way and by hand..
My apologizies if the post after mine answered or the second one did but I have yet to read link .....so besides me knowing Wanam got a way around it for most the Install and Stuff
My true and Last Attempt at my first Question
FINGERS CROSSED
LONG
Would there be any necessity in the terms of Modular Functionality either individual or a compilation of your choosing and or combination that would specifically require you to deodex the firmware of any 5.0 or Higher Samsung Based Firmware so that one might have a higher sucess rate or all around better experince?
SHORT
Should i spend my time deodexing this rom for the few who have it in attempts to better the end user experience , spend my time else ?
Id like a little bit of step i the right direction but might just do it and then move to more time , intelectually and pc resource consuming work....

I have since given device up....
Havent given up on it ...
So yeah to modding out a new more flagship type model...
Building ,Porting , Deodexing this J3 ....
And just seeing a lil development o a mid to low end device * price =low specs=mid....ish
Growing as a person in both knowledge and contributionally as well. Thanks 4 time.... **Sorry if I ramble.**

this version:j327pvpu1apl1
stock version:J327PVPU0APJ2
am i correct in assuming that this could be my safety net issue? and if so can anyone help point me in the right direction to the stock boost firmware? ill be searching for it regardless but if i can get help before i find it then that'd be super thanks for asking

Are you rooted? Or running a custom kernel? Both of those things and a few others will cause you to fail. Another option would be to select NAND erase in ODIN when you flash. That will completely wipe your device before flashing, but as with any flashing procedures, it could lead to an unusable device.

I was rooted with super su but after failing safety net I began searching for a a way around it and i successfully unrooted my phone then re rooted with magisk and passed the safety net test yay! And life was good for a while until I to install xposed framework. I made a super noob mistake and flashed it with a low battery percentage and of course it died in the middle of it. I turned my phone on and no OS... Crap baskets... noob mistake number 2 my nandroid backup I must not have been paying attention and tried to save it to internal storage instead of the SD card which if you own this phone you probably know that it doesn't work that way so double crap baskets.
Fast forward to finding this post I loaded it up everything works as it should but it won't pass safety net rooted or not and no custom kernel
This is not a life or death problem as everything works flawlessly except for the safety net test But my woman likes to go on walks and play Pokémon go together and now I can't and it is slightly annoying that we are no longer able to. It's a cheap way to get outside and have a little fun towards the end of the week as opposed to Netflix and other boring stuff

Hmm. I do know that you need to enable "oem unlock" and power the phone COMPLETELY off. It doesn't hurt to pull the battery for a minute, but shouldn't be necessary. Then power it on into download mode, and leave the auto reset checked in ODIN. It can take a couple of flashes I've read to get everything back to where it should be.
