Ics Rom - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Hi I have ics 4.0.3 currently installed on skyrocket, and i want to flash sky ics rom. Can I flash to sky ics rom while running ics leaked rom, or do I have to stock it.

Flash away, follow the instructions

Make sure you read the instructions and several, ,if not all, of the pages of posts. I found there are several steps explained vaguely enough to give you trouble, like "wipe system" really means go to Mounts and Format /data, /sys, and /cache, which to a noobish was unclear. I never format anything without understanding it completely, so when the instruction was "wipe system", I was looking for a button in CWM with "Wipe System."
Depending on what you have and what you want, there are some differences. I pretty much followed the instructions given on the S3 Skyrocket ROM thread - wipe everything like you're a criminal trying to hide DNA, then SUPERDARKSIDE Wipe, then flash the ROM, then flash the modem 3 times, etc. But there's enough knowledge buried in the thread to steer you the right way.

I followed a video off of youtube and everything went fine EXCEPT after flashing Sky Ics 4.2E17 I reboot phone and starts up correctly BUT screen is black and buttons are lit and phone vibrates. Does anyone know why it is doing this?

Did you flash an ics radio? Don't follow videos, follow the instructions in the thread for the rom you're flashing.

This question and many others are answered in the sky ics thread.. if you don't understand the terminology used then maybe you should do more reading and learning BEFORE flashing any custom rom

Maybe he should just start over. It sounds like a borked install. Or not wiping properly.

CWM partially flashed/some glitches?

My brother got tired of all the bloatware on his G2x with 2.3.3 OTA, so I proceeded to try to flash a custom ROM. Did the process of NVFlash, but with some unexpected results:
1) As I'm lead to believe, I should see an orange "ANDROID" show up when holding volume down and power. But instead I get a green "ANDROID" with a bunch of Android icons like messaging.
2) When it gets past the screen I mentioned, it does go into CWM Recovery but as soon as I let go of a button to navigate, the phone shuts off. Sometimes it stays on if, while still holding down volume and power, I press volume up, release down, then release power. Even then, it sometimes still shuts off.
3) When trying to flash a rooted ROM (CyanogenMod 7.1, after doing a data wipe/factory reset), I get an error message and the installation aborts.
Was able to restore the 2.3.3. OTA because I had backed up, but any ideas?
I am no expert but I would start over from scrach. Rinse and Repeat. it sounds like it did not install right.
Are you sure you flashed the CWM for the G2X? If you flashed the wrong recovery all kinds of problems, such as you described, could occur. Good thing you had the backup.

Would you recommend I reflash CWM straight up, or the stock recovery through NVFlash before trying again? I'd assume I should follow all the same steps as if I was trying to flash CWM, but instead of clicking on CWM, click stock recovery instead.

Positive. I downloaded the necessary files and followed all the steps from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Again I am no expert but that sounds like a good idea i would say you it cant hurt. I think you will have to reflash cwm but you have to do that anyway so I would say it is the best way to start clean.
Got CWM Recovery to work. It still shows the green ANDROID with the icons, but I no longer have to struggle to keep it from shutting off. I was able to flash xboarder's tweaked Gingerbread ROM, but still unable to flash CyanogenMod 7.1. I did a factory/wipe data, wiped cache, and dalvik cache. Still get an error message upon trying to install.
when i first did the nvflash my phone was getting shut off when it got to the recovery and then i let go of the power button. Until i realized that you are supposed to let go of the power/volume button when the word android appears and all those icons u mentioned, yeah i get the same screen. i had no problems flashing 3 builds of cm7 and xboarder's rom 2 times.
Not sure what's going on with the CM 7.1RC but I was able to flash the latest EaglesBlood ROM this mornibg and he's really enjoying it so far. Thanks for all the help!

The green android with the icons is just a different splash screen in the newer version of cwm.

Could've been a bad download. Sometimes you just gotta download the file again and it'll flash no issues.
But I'd go for the latest CM7 nightly. They are leaps and bounds ahead of where they were with RC1.
I figured that might be the problem. Eaglesbood seems to be working really well for him, so I think he'll just stick with that. My bro is more of the "If it isn't broken, don't fix it" type, whereas I'm more inclined to try the latest. I'm tempted to try the nightlies myself on my Glacier, if they really are better than RC1.

[Q] Samsung G2 Skyrocket (freeze on poweroff, reboot)

I searched the forums and cannot find a fix for this... now this is my first time looking and I may have missed something, or searched using the wrong words or phrases...
I just recently upgraded my skyrocket to the UCLD2 4.2d build, from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1602216
I followed the instructions to the letter, but now whenever I try to power off my phone it freezes, and the only way to fix it is to remove the battery.
I am very new to rooting, and this entire process, but I did double check everything before I did the install process.
Please point me in the right direction to fixing the issue.
download darkside. zip...to acheive full wipe...then flash rom again while still in recovery .....
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
Mine is doing the same thing after I restored from nandroid. It was fine before. I'm rooted with stock ICS and Mohan kernel. Everything else works fine. It just hangs on the powering off screen. Do you think darkside wipe and redoing my nandroid restoration would fix this? I am also still learning, but have been reading my a$$ off.

Sky ICS install problem

Hello folks,
I'm trying to install the most recent Sky ICS update, and i've followed the instructions from seanzscreams' thread, but i'm getting a strange problem. my phone keeps "rebooting". it'll show the Samsung logo, and then the four-colored "X" logo, and then blank screen, and then cycle back to the Samsung logo.
I'm updating from Gingerbread (using the Super Stock mod 2.3.6), if that makes a difference. i think i'm going to try reverting to stock ICS next to see if that helps. but i was wondering if anyone else had run into this problem.

Did u follow the instructions in his op. I know they are for team win recovery but the steps are about identical even if done in cwm. Did u do wipe data/factory reset, cache and dalvik x3?

stop flashing the Base and update at the same time. you need to flash the base and reboot into android and then reboot into recovery and flash the update
It did exactly the same thing to me. I let the phone restarting again and again for at least 15 minutes, then it worked! Now no problem.

Update Gone Wrong

Hello - I tried to update my phone from Infuse v2.2.3 to Th3Bill JB 3.3.2 and got in an endless loop. I then tried to go into recovery mode and do a restore. Checked the MD5, Erased boot and then started restoring boot image and thats where she has been sitting for some time. I will pull batter and attempt again however I may be hosed. Any help greatly appreciated.
It is not possible, that I am aware of, to go from Froyo straight to JB. You will also not be able to restore a backup at this point due to changes made on the phone in the borked attempt. You should be able to wipe data, cache, and dalvik, and after a couple of attempts re- install a Froyo rom from scratch. If you can't do that, do this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629079
Thanks to qkster and Entropy for this.
I had that issue as well. Only cause I like to see if I can be done. But no. What I do is go back to stock and rooted then flash a ICS ROM then make sure it boots. Then go wipe all stuff in cwm and flash jelly

Hey Pony, I was on the custom ROM Infuse v2.2.3 and not stock Froyo. I ended up doing the gtg ultimate unbrick to bring it back to stock and then did the full back to Infuse v2.2.3 and then did a nandroid restore. Everything looks good but it is acting a bit weird. Like I will try to open my applications or folders it sometimes hangs. I consistantly get it to free up by locking the phone and then unlocking it. Weird huh? Anyway I would be interested in trying to upgrade to JB but would like more instruction on that. Thanks for responding and if you can recommend anything that might help Im all ears.
See the post below - if you need more specific instructions let me know.
Thanks rkkaranrk.
Use Odin or heimdll to get stock GB Tom and then from there u can flash any rom u like just follow the instructions in the OP. You can go directly from GB to ICS but for JB u have to flash any ICS rom first and then JB.
Read the instructions on every thread.

Ice to jb with butter

I'm currently running cm9 with 4.0.4. I followed these exact steps
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hmhU2kmxvdc
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
I did this in the past and wanted to verify my cwm was the right version. I went into cwm and it showed it was the blue and grey (6.0.1.0 or something like that) however, when I clicked the "reboot button" my phone started to do bootloops and would always wind up back at cwm main screen. The rom had no problems while running it and I still don't understand why it was bootlooping.
I was able to return to stock and then progressed to Get back to cm9 with 4.0.4 (the same way I did before) I now want to make the move to JB but am unsure if I will be able to flash due to my last experience with cwm bootlooping. I like to watch a video tutorial before I flash and found this video to go from ics to jb.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=plpp&v=xWBcSyj8vzU
Should I be able to follow this videos steps without bootlooping again? I have not heard of anyone else with this problem.
Thanks
It should. You might want to back up EFS. Use Zen's toolkit for that. Sometimes the IMEI get lost in the flash from ICS to JB. I like to wipe Dalvik cache, under advance, too but the wasn't in Scott's OP.
You can find link to both off the ISET page.

Practically same process as the one described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878458
The video doesn't mention wiping dalvik cache and formating system.
And as psal already suggested, backup efs in case you lose imei. That would save you a trip back to stock.
