[Q] Flashing bootloader in ODIN - Samsung Infuse 4G

When flashing the bootloader in ODIN does the phone bootloader update box need to be checked or just flash the bootloader using the pda slot only?

It should flash either way, as long as you have it in the pda slot. Check it just in case, it won't hurt anything.

Thank you for the reply brother. I got it. What i was doing was getting ready to flash remics 1.3 I got it going no problems. Actually it took me maybe an hour to fully complete and 4 or 5 hrs reading and more reading prior...along with my wife taking notes...just wanted all steps right the first time.

Does flashing only the bootloader in Odin erase any data or settings? Or does it only affect the bootloader and nothing else on the phone?

The end of the thread above should help you out.

it's a little bit different
the new ODINs have a button named BL - I thought the logical thing would be using it when flashing bootloader... but couldn't find the right answer if it's appropriate to use that button. All I could find was to choose AP for any purposes.

Edit: I see.
At any rate, only use the ODIN that comes with the appropriate package, as each ODIN version can be tailored to the device.

for all the work. I used the CWM flashable ROM/Kernel/Baseband mix but I'm curious as to what the advantages are of having this in an Odin'able TAR file?
I assume flashing this via Odin for those of us who are rooted would trigger the flash counter, correct?

I flashed the CWR through odin (I thought it flashed a kernel also) since odin said 'Kernel' on the progress bar.
Ha, got me there LOL. Maybe its a stock kernal that trips the counter. Or maybe recovery has something to do with the kernal, but doesn't actually flash a new kernal. I dunno

So just to confirm the steps per http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348:
1. Download the ucla3.tar
2. Run Odin3+v1.85.exe, and prepare Odin:
•Check "auto-reboot", and uncheck all other options.
•Click PDA and select the ucla3.tar.
3. Put your device into Download Mode:• Connect the USB cable to your PC, but NOT your device.

I assume this will only work upgrading from ucla2?
Edit:
Why is the update so large? I thought the OTA update was only 25Mb?
There is no ucla2.....this should work no matter what u are running. It will wipe your phone out. And put u on ucla3 2.3.6

[Q] Rooting turned my phone into a "soft Brick"

I have a Samsung S2 Galaxy Skyrocket (SGH-I727) on the AT&T network. I set my phone into download mode, opened Odin3 v.1.85 and selected the .tar file I downloaded off this forum to root the device. Well after about 30 mins of Odin being stuck with the "<ID:0/009> SetupConnection.." prompt I figured it froze up or something. Well I restarted everything and and now my phone just goes straight into Odin mode with the error "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I'm trying to reload the .tar and it is still doing the same thing...

Use odin and flash the sammobile image it will wipe everything but should fix the issue
CM9 Skyrocket
Sometimes its as simple as rebooting your computer, open Odin as admin, select your tar under PDA, connect your phone, make sure com is lit up and flash. My windows machine gets freaky like that sometimes and just fails or sits there doing nothing. Driver issue I assume even though they are there. I've encountered that error a few times trying to flash in Odin. No worries. These guys will get you back up. Good luck!

Thats a personal choice. Currently there are many different roms floating around but it depends on what you want.
Deciding on which to get is a matter of 2 simple questions for me: Do you want to be up to date, since ICS is the new hottest, thing (sexier UI IMO, some app issues, but overall feel wise. it makes the phone feel so much better, and fits the sleek profile, but lets not have me go on about aesthetics lol.
Or do you want functionatilty, extra options, overclocking (changing clock speeds) and things like that, currently we can only do that on 2.3.5/6 (Gingerbread, also known as GB)
I personally like ICS. Sometimes the Skyrocket just has to be sexy than the powerhouse e-beast that it is. That will happen whenever the Official ICS comes out

You don't need the sammobile tar unless you're returning to stock. If you wanna just be stock rooted, flash CWM in odin. Make a nandroid backup. Then put the superuser zip on the sd card and flash it in CWM.
If you wanna run a custom rom from our dev section, just flash CWM, make a backup and then flash the rom which will already be rooted

This is incorrect...you must flash the stock kernel before flashing a stock rom in odin. Op go to my guide and follow section 6.
I suggest doing a factory reset in recovery, immediately after you flash root66. My phone would not finish booting after ODIN'ing root66 coming from BeansRom 9. It was sticking at the Verizon 4g boot image for 20 minutes.

Read the op...she is getting the verizon triangle of death...that means one thing, either she flashed a custom recovery via odin or flashed a custom rom that was packaged with a custom kernel on a locked bootloader. The advice you gave is incorrect for this situation. Im not here to argue, im here to help pass along correct information to keep bricks at a minimum. Sometimes i may come off a bit brash, but im just trying to get the point across. Seems silly to take a 600.00 device and turn it into a paper weight all because lack of research don it?

EZ-unlock is an app. You run it while the device is booted.
Does the device boot up or it stops at that screen saying not supported.
If you can't boot, then you will want to ODIN back to stock. To get into Odin mode, pull your battery and put back in and then I believe it is volume up and power button, You will need to get the stock Rom to run in Odin. You can probably find this in the dev section.
If you can boot into the Rom, then you should not have to Odin.

On 4.1.2 and need to downgrade

Okay I am on stock 4.1.2 not rooted not unlocked. The last update borked my internet so that 4g is rare and used to be pretty good. I think all I would need to do is revert back to a previous radio firmware but since I am stock I think I need to revert back to ICS before I can do anything? My internet at home is out today so I am tethered to this slow 3G connection that makes researching this difficult.
Any help and/or links are appreciated.
Thanks

I would recommend taking a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1850506 and in the modems section pick the modem you want to flash. After you have downloaded the modem you want use Odin to flash the file in the Phone slot.

Understood.. I have flashed modems before but since I am not rooted or unlocked I think I have to start by going back to ICS before I can do anything?

I've never seen anyone suggest to use the Phone section within Odin for this phone. Always
Odin flash in the PDA field unless specifically instructed not to.

Doesn't matter, Odin will flash it regardless of root.

Correct use the PDA slot unless otherwise noted, that being said I have seen several procedures in the past recommend using the Phone slot to flash certain format modem files in Odin.

Before you Odin flash, have you tried pulling the sim card for about 30 seconds to update your Preferred Roaming List (PRL)? This would basically have your phone update and readjust/allow it to connect with any new towers in your respective area. It's may not result in any significant change but it doesn't hurt either.
Best of luck getting LTE back!

Okay got my modem flashed and soon as it booted up I got 4g.. then it went back to 3g and stayed there. I will need to test for a few days before I come to any final conclusions.
When I had my Sprint GS2 there was a bunch of network tweaks posted on this forum. Settings that would help it hold 4g longer and such, I have searched high and low and cant find anything like that for this phone. If you know of any tweaks please post a link.. even just a dns server change is worth a shot.
Thanks
