100% Total Plain ICS 4.0.4? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Get my TF300 tomorrow. Is it possible to get 100% plain ICS 4.0.4 on the TF300? The one that would basically come straight from Google and not from Asus?

There are a couple 4.0.4 ROMs available to include CM9 and AOKP. Head over to the development section and check out the posts. Other than that, that's all we have for the 300 at this time.

Well to be honest the stock rom is pretty close to asop.

Yeah after reading some reviews on the TF300 that is one thing they did mention that it pretty much runs stock ICS with only a few things thrown in from Asus...

The transformer pretty much comes with Vanilla ICS, with a few widgets and apps from ASUS which are all completely removable.

Yeah. Asus devices have very light skins over stock Android. Unlike HTC sense, SAMSUNG touchwiz, or motorblur. This is my first asus device and I'm impressed.

[Q] The nexus 7, tf300t, and jelly bean.

Does anybody think that with the nexus 7 having similar hardware to the tf300t, we might start seeing more custom roms?
If that's not the case, at least Asus delivers updates on time (no major customization of the UI), and we can unlock the bootloader with the tool provided by them.
It's way better than the strategy used by Motorola (I also have a Defy, great device with a strong community formed around it, but crippled by the official support).

I think they use the same tegra 3 (T30L)

No one knows. Anyone that answers otherwise is just speculating.
theoretically, it should be a reasonably trivial effort to port a Nexus 7 system dump to the TF201/300T. I'd give it a go myself if I didn't have a broken arm at the moment.

Well those specs do claim it uses the T30L. And the transformer 300 does use the T30L
Is the transformer clocked to 1.2GHz or 1.3GHz? Is the nexus 7 clocked higher?

I'd do it too if i knew what i was doing. Looks like were both in trouble. :silly:
Hope both have the dame versiĆ³n of tegra 3 and release Jb for tf300

specs on both tabs are equal apart from memory and screen size obv.
Shame as its half the cost of TF300 and even though its got half the screen size I should have waited! ha ha
It should not take too long to port a N Tab ROM over to our tab, someone on here has already got a JB ROM for the Acer Aconia Tab A500!

Based on initial tests, the N7 stock rom does not have full usb driver support or sd card. No camera either, so would be either a lot of missed function, or a seriously patched N7 rom and this assumes you never use the dock.
Looks like the TF300 needs its rom and perhaps the key additions from JB patched to it.
Or wait for a JB release, which possibly will happen after the cardless and OTG gimped N7 settles in consumers hands for a few months.
Heh. I'd just like to see even a half-working port just to play around with. All the rest of the gear will come with CM10 anyway

Flashing other custom roms

Since the tf 700 is just about the same as the other ones in hardware (tf300 and tf201) , are their roms or kernels compatible to flag and help this bad boy out ?
Sent from my Gameboy Color
They're not compatible, if you flash a prime or TF300 rom you'll probably brick. However, development for those tablets will help out the TF700 since they are pretty similar.
Hopefully its just A matter of changing the kernel.

I'm sure developers will simply port some of their ROMs overall and have feature parity shortly. There are some changes and drivers they would have to make.

+1 -- it's probably down to the nitty-gritty small details.

Is there a SENSE version for the Transformer ICS?

On my evo3D I get Sense version update but can not find a Sense version in my Transformer "About".
Is Sense something not for us or for tablets?
Sense is specific to HTC products, since this is an ASUS tablet they don't have it. The Sense widgets are extremely useful and many can be replaced by others in the market like "beautiful widgets" but others can't unfortunately.
I oftentimes forget how confusing Android can be to an outsider. But Sense is an overlay that HTC uses to differentiate themselves from others on their products. What you get on the Transformer series is a relatively stock Android experience with a few features added on to take advantage of the tablet by ASUS.

Why would you even want sense? Its bloated, slow and ugly.
I got b& at /g/ for sh!tposting ;_;
To be perfectly honest, I love the Sense interface on my HTC EVO V 4G. It's *very* smooth and fast. It's the first time I've used/owned an HTC product and I must say, it's a very professional, clean and fast interface!
Not saying that a Sense interface would be a good thing on the TF700, but who knows - I was rather impressed with the phone!

I have only ever used HTC phones because I prefer Sense. I've never had a problem with Sense being bloated or slow. And it is your opinion that it is ugly. You are welcome to your opinion. I personally think Sense looks great. That being said, I don't think this tablet needs Sense. One of the reasons I like Asus tablets is they barely skin the UI.

I have an evo 3d as well. As others have said Sence in specific to HTC. Although I would disagree it is bloated and slow. From my experience, I would say it is the next best thing to nexus experience for phones at least. The newest version of sence is very unintrusive. If you do really like it though I think there are some custom roms out to mimic the experience!

I love sense on both my 3D and LTE. Would be cool to have something like that on a tablet, but the HTC tabs were not good enough when they came out last time. Supposedly they have a higher end one in the works. Would be interested to check it out down the road.

On my phone, Sense runs smoother and looks better than any other interface I've seen/used on a phone. Period.
Haven't used Sense on a tablet, so can't comment on that...

I like Sense over any other UI by other companies. It's one of the reasons I went with the LTE instead of the GS3. But everyone does have their opinion. There are quite a number of apps that replicate the Sense look in the market (play store, whatever).

Why would you want AOSP if Sense is an option? Simple.... Personal preference. I like sense and I've used AOSP extensively. Of course, with ICS on a tablet Sense seams a little unnecessary.

Best Rom?

I'm new to the table and I'm on CleanRom 2.7 (1.8ghz kernel) which is amazing fast! Anyone suggest anything better? Just curious!
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app
Nothing compares/comes close to how great CleanRom is. I've tried all of them, but CleanRom just always outperforms the rest. But this is only my experience. If you really wanna know which is best, you'd have try them all to compare for yourself. And, make decision based on your own experience.
Thanks bro! Your answer is what I wanted to hear!

Clean rom Inheretence 2.7 is blazin fast !!
ParanoidAndroid with the Untermensch kernel is working great for me. I've been running it since the day I bought my tablet (2 weeks) and haven't had any issues. I've been getting some great benchmark scores too.
every available version of clean rom has failed to flash for me
and how does cleanrom battery life compare with the stock 4.1.1?
I'm still not fully convinced to root and flash my TF300.
Haven't came across a 100% for sure noob proof guide as to getting to that stage.
I'm not seeing an awful lot of updates for some of the roms, maybe I'm missing something...

Same as you man, seems very complicated compared to my phone.
I mean the tf300 has a quad core lol, it can handle anything with 4.1.1 but I'm a perfectionist gah.

The best ROM is the one that works best for YOU, and your personal app selection. What may work for most, may not have the features you need.. Only you can take the time and find what is best.

Should I get a Nexus 10 or a Transformer Infinity?

How well has the TF700 held up in the past year? I've heard of its lagginess, but I'm willing to add CROMI to it, which I hear improves its performance dramatically.
I'll be using this tablet for media consumption (music, streaming movies/ shows, movie file playback, etc.), eBook reading, general web browsing, and the occasional GBA emulating.
Basically, I'll be looking to have this tablet for at least around a year before I upgrade, so should I look to the TF700?
Asus will release a new gadget soon. If you can wait some more weeks.
Otherwise, both are very good tablets. I really love mine.
If I can bought another one, definitely I'm going to Xperia Z. Take a look. Seen to be very good one.
My best advice is that you should wait for the upcoming Transformer Infinity with Tegra 4, it will outclass both the Nexus 10 and the tf700 in terms of hardware. Nevertheless, if you need to get a tablet now, and since you mentioned GBA emulating, I would recommend the tf700 because it has this really awesome thing called the keyboard dock. I don't know how easy it is to connect a Bluetooth keyboard to the Nexus 10, but on the tf700 with the dock, you can map all the on-screen virtual buttons to the hardware keys on the dock when you run those GBA emulators. How awesome is that? Running GBA games with real buttons is a joy.
Other than that, the Nexus 10 is obviously the faster device. Just my 2 cents.
I would just wait. The next generation of tablets are right around the corner.
Sent from my HTCONE
I would definitely just wait. The Transformer has some pretty bad problems with performance due to poor I/O speed. So, if you were going to get one right now, I would get the Nexus 10.
Wait to see what the new one is going to do.
