[A510] CPU Temperatures - Acer Iconia A700 and A510

I have System Tuner Pro on my tablet and have been monitoring my CPU temps these past 24 hours.
I noticed that my CPU temps reach from 40 up to 65 degrees Celsius depending on the activity of my Iconia.
As my smartphone plays at 30 to 40 Celsius, I was wondering if everyone's A510 is warmer than normal as well, or if I have heatsink issues with mine.
Just in case you're wondering, there is a free version for System Tuner.

Er... bump?

"bump to who"?
Using "bump" is when a person who answered, doesn't have an answer or is not sure, and they pass it on to somebody who might know.
OP's should never follow a non-response with "bump".
A lot of people live in different time zones, have jobs, family and such, and can't always respond immediately, and usually from fri-mon, response times slow down a lot. It's the weekend. Not to mention it's summertime. Also considering the 510-700 series tabs are new and don't have a large following, responses are even more limited.
Your temperature is completely normal for a tegra3. You can download SetCpu and run a "stress test" and really put it to work. But the processor itself is rated for about 90c. Somewhere there abouts.
If you're running 45 - 70c under a horrible load, you are cool as a cucumber.
MD

Apologies for my impatience. I have to admit, I got used to my more active threads and thought that my thread wasn't getting any attention.
But I know better now. Thanks MD!

CPU Temp Benchmarking - Request for Help

Hi all,
I'd like to ask for some community assistance, to gather A700 temperature data. To those willing to help, please do the following:
1. Install SetCPU from XDA & System Tuner from Google Play:
SetCPU:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
System Tuner:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.pmw
2. Open up System Tuner, go to CPU, and write down what the CPU Temp is. Try doing this while nothing else is running. This will be your "idle baseline."
3. Switch over to SetCPU. Ignore all of the prompts if you are not-rooted. Go to Info->Stress Test. Run the Stress Test. It will continue to run until you stop it.
4. Wait about 2 minutes, then switch back to System Tuner. The act of switching apps will stop the Stress Test. Record the CPU temperature again.
Repeat if you wish.
Please post back with the following information:
Rooted = Yes or no
Baseline Temperature = ?
Post-Test Temperature = ?
Thanks all!!
I have not stressed the cpu with setcpu, but my baseline temp is 65 degrees celsius.
If I scroll a heavy page down and up continuously in stock browser or boat browser for half a minute, the temp goes up to 89 degrees !!!
That's really hot for a tablet...

Unless either System Tuner and/or the CPU sensor itself is off, then that is accurate. My results are similar.
Will run these tonight and will report back ASAP... I am very interested in seeing my numbers. Thanks for taking the initiative to start this thread...
Just ran it.
Non rooted
This is in Fahrenheit.
Base line was 119 degrees.
After 5 minutes running stress test it hit 168.3 degrees
Baseline: 47.0c
After 2 minute stress test: 79.0c
Let me know if I win something....
I have not checked the baseline but when playing a 3D game for a short while when powering up, the device rebooted itself. A few mins after that I found this thread and checked the Celsius, which was 79 °C slowly going down.
I have root.
I think it's important to mention that it was charging.
The tablet was lying flat on my bed.
These temperatures are just unacceptable.. Acer should find a hardware way to fix it and take all the devices back.
Hi
Here are figures for mine :
Not rooted yet, no case
Base : 49 Celcius
Post Stress : 67 Celcius
Room température : about 28 Celcius
During the test I held the tablet by edges for it not to lie on the bed and be hotter.
This seems quite good when I read your stats.

Rooted = No
Baseline Temperature = 52 C (had just come off the charger--but it had been fully charged hours ago so the little light was just white as opposed to red which means charge in progress)
Post-Test Temperature = 85 C
It was in this case sitting like this on a desk.
Then I immediately opened Deer Hunt and played for about ~5-7 minutes. Checked the temp and it was 92 C! Then closed DH and did another stress test. 1 minute into the test, the system crashed & rebooted like it has before. Took a few minutes for things to open again. Opened the CPU temp app immediately and it showed it to be 88 but falling at a pretty high rate...
It's going back to Amazon... Thank you for helping me make up my mind much faster!
Thank you everyone, who has participated so far.
Here's a test sequence that I just completed, with a stopwatch.
Start up cold... in an air-conditioned room... with the back uncovered and propped up to allow airflow underneath.
* Starting baseline temp = 49C
* Ran SetCPU stress test for 3 minutes. 80C
**Waited 1 minute to cool a little.
**Ran SetCPU stress test for 5 minutes. 84C
**Waited 30 seconds to cool a little.
**Ran SetCPU stress test for 4 minutes. 90C
**Waited 30 seconds to cool a little.
**Ran SetCPU stress test for 3 minutes. 88C
**Waited 30 seconds to cool a little.
**Ran SetCPU stress test for 3 minutes. Boom, reboot at almost exactly the 3 minute mark.
So that's 18 total minutes of Stress Testing with 4 brief random breaks in between. And finally a crash.
When I picked up the A700 after each stress test stop, the back was hot. I'd call it uncomfortably hot but not "burn my hand" hot.
Resetting my display timeout to 30 minutes, then am going to run one straight stress test. Let's see how long it takes to force a reboot.
Well that was interesting.
Starting temp - 56C
* @ 3 minutes & 40 seconds, the screen momentarily "wigged out"
* Picked up @ 6 minutes. Warm but not nearly as hot as before after reboot.
* Picked up @ 10 minutes. Same, warm but not hot like before.
* Picked up @ 17 minutes. Moderately hot... expect a reboot shortly.
* Picked up @ 22 minutes. It's hot. Switched to System Tuner to check temp (which stopped the stress test)... temps steady at 89C. Immediately went back to running stress test. Maybe 20 second gap.
* Screen wigged out again at 26 minutes. Picked it up & it is moderately hot
* Reached 30 minutes! Checked temp = 91C
Decided to call it quits. Temp down to 67C after 60 seconds.
What I find most interesting is when I switched over at 22 minutes... the A700 felt hot BUT the CPU still hadn't really exceeded 90C. That makes me speculate that the reboot & "hot feeling" is more due to ambient heat buildup over time, vs the CPU being pushed beyond 90C.
Oh yeah, and the left side of the tablet is just fine. Perfectly cool & I checked the temp now - 30C and holding. I'm fairly certain now that it's all about the "gap" on the right side above the mainboard and trying to get as much heat off the mainboard and onto that back plate as possible.
Damn... I'll be honest. I like my A700... and I really want to love it. But this concerns me overall, especially in lieu of the TF700 being right on the horizon. I've PM'd a couple of folks who have received their TF700's & asked them to run the same benchmark above. Hopefully one is willing to help and will provide results soon.
I just played 20 minutes of Max Payne without issue, and while it got warm it was never scorching just warm. Watching HD movies barely makes it warm... I've never had this reboot either, maybe it was the ROM upgrade and rooting/removal. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Well I just had my first freeze.
And that was during the process of moving icons on the home screen!!!
The whole screen just turned white with vertical lines all over the screen, back panel was super hot when it crashed...
It's going back to the seller. Screw this.

Sorry for multiple posts can't edit from tablet and I'm too lazy to get up, but I ran it for 30 mins and went from baseline to 87c, not too bad IMO, yes warm but as I said before, my full.l sized gpu on my desktop runs hotter and is fine. I think people are overreacting to this situation, if the warmth really bothers you I understand, but its not a danger at all.
Sent from my A700 using xda app-developers app
Not a danger at all? I don't know about your desktop GPU, but videocards should definately not get hotter than 79 Celcius degrees!
Besides, we're speaking of tablets, which should not get as hot as a desktop pc I reckon.
And if they should, they sure should not have to crash and get really hot at the right side.
I'm thinking about returning it. It's like Beknatok said, I like my A700... and I really want to love it. But this concerns me overall!

That sounds fairly interesting. Do you mind trying it again whilst charging?
New test:
Baseline: 51°C (It looks like it couldn't really find the Celcius degrees since it was around 59°C at first but dropping real quick constantly.)
**stresstest running for 6 minutes**
Temp: 85°C and dropping real quick again to ~70°C and then to 62°C
The back didn't get as hot as last night, when I've had my tablet flat on the bed playing a game whilst charging (80°C with a crash).
**another stresstest running for 6 minutes** -- Couldn't finish the 6 minutes, crashed after 5 minutes and rebooted..
Temp: 76°C
Again, the back wasn't hot. It sure was warm, but not hot.

Normal working temperature of the TF700?

Hi guys, I asked my dad to buy the TF700 (this would be my first tablet) in my home country because the model hasn't been released in the UK (it should be today) and it's cheaper there. A friend of mine will be bringing it to me when he comes back from summer holidays.
So I've had him do the proper inspection on my tablet (according to this thread) by alienedd), and so far the tablet has passed most of the tests. But just now he noted that the tablet feels a bit warm (in particular at one of the corners of the tablet), considerably warmer than the iPad (he has been reading blogs and watching youtube HD videos using the tablet).
I wonder what kind of normal temperature should I expect for this tablet? and whether I should be concerned with what my dad noted.
Thanks in advance!!

What sort of tests was he running? High performance activities like certain games will push the temperature up. it could feel pretty warm, but will cool off before damage is done.
Just web surfing, and typing this, my TF700 is running at 25C.
My top left corner of the tablet (where the power button is) gets a bit warmer than other spots while watching youtube videos.

Just have him install Cool Tool @ playstore. You can set it as a floating widget. It monitors everything that you choose it to monitor. I have it monitoring battery temp. CPU speeds and WiFi signal strengths. This will help you determine much more accurately if your temp is getting to extreme. On my daily use with my Infinity, my temps never go above 100 degrees unless I'm pushing it with heavy gaming.

With brightness set to ~20-30%, I normally see room temperature + a few degrees, basically 24-27*C, sometimes more, sometimes less.
With brightness set to max. and in some sunrays at it, I was getting as high as 41-47*C.
Edit: I meant the battery temperature, as this is what I have monitored in the tray.
The tab I have shows 120.07F degrees right out of sleep.
Then after browsing it ramps to 140.00F degrees in balanced mode with nothing forced.
Never seen the temp above 140.00F
I use system tuner to look at the CPU temperature.
I guess SysTune is accurate...I wouldn't know if it was lying anyhoo.
My previous Acer tablet was returned because it was showing temperatures in the 195F-225F degree range with below normal use.
That thing started crashing all over the place.

Sooo if my tablet is at 102F right now just from browsing websites (5 tabs open) do you guys think i should try to exchange it for another? It got pretty hot yesterday when i played zenbound 2 for maybe 15 min. Brightness on about 2,% performance mode to get it to stop altering screen brightness ( auto is off).

I just played ShadowGun for 10 minutes then quickly checked temp and found it was only 93F in ~80F ambient temp. Highest I've seen on my tab (outdoor use) is 118F during the hottest part of Midwest summer when it was 100+F for days on end. Based on my experiences, anything above 120F would seem a bit abnormal.
Just checked mine using System Tuner and it was at 120F after short use of Tapatalk, etc... I believe this is completely normal - its not even warm to the touch on the outside...
For those that say it theirs never even reaches 100 degree F, what are you using to check the temperature?
EDIT: Ha! Cool Tool reports 95F while System Tuner reports 127F! Obviously, one of them is wrong - or one is monitoring CPU temp and the other is battery temp. Guess we need to clarify which tool is reporting which temp...

That doesn't sound right. Your tablet would literally be smoking and smelling if it were that high wouldn't it?! Having it functioning alone with such high temps shouldn't be possible. It will literally be too hot to touch and would definitly fry your cores? Mine when it reached 104 degrees F. It was hard to hold due to the amount of heat. I can't imagine temps going 140 and above!

I don't know what to tell ya...
It's hit a 140 a few times as reported by Sys Tuner.
I've done some resetting in System Tuner and have gotten the temps back down.
Out of sleep I'm seeing 103 degrees now.
It still hits 140 occasionally.
I can tell when it's cooking because the area under the back camera gets warm.
Like I said in my original post I wouldn't know if Sys Tuner is lying to me or not.
Yeah, I think Sys Tuner is reporting the temperature wrong - like I said, when SysTuner reports 127F, Cool Tool reports 95F, so something is way off - probably Sys Tuner is wrong is my guess...

Blah guess this one is going back to best buy.. I was using Cool Tool. The back was burning hot and during the middle of me editing my last post to say I was using Cool Tool the tablet crashed and went through a few boot loops until it finally loaded back up.. The 102F temp was just from have 5 tabs opened on browser, using the tablet indoors, almost full battery (just turned on), 20% brightness. I switched it back down to power saving mode just to see and the past few hours it's been at 93-98F from just 2 tabs opened on browser. No games being played since then. I also had it fully off for a few hours in between.
P.S. Do you guys know what serial number your units start with? Mine is C7. At the best buy besides the other C7 I opened the day before (had scratches) the rest of them were C6. Wondering if the batch makes a difference.
I don't think 100F is out of bounds for this device - like I said, mine was at 95F just using tapatalk. Having 5 tabs going in a browser would certainly make it run hotter than Tapatalk...
EDIT: Just out of curiosity, try loading Dual Battery Widget and see what temp is reports...

makes me miss my original prime. I could have 2 browsers with multiple tabs up, checking gmail, playing games, on performance mode (to get away from screen changing brightness even though auto brightness off) and it would only get warm. Now if their updates didn't break my gps and make my screen bug out all the time..
What does dual battery widget do besides monitor battery? I installed it but it just logs battery right? CoolTemp is still at 91F right now. 100F was whatever for a powerful tablet since my laptop burns my legs normall, but once it got to 102+ it started going through boot loops from overheating.

CPU temp 70 degrees celsius

Hi
The temp of the CPU in my note 10.1 reaches 70 degrees Celsius during gaming...
Is that a normaal temp ? It is measured by System Tuner (by 3C)
During normal use it reaches 45 to 50 degrees.
It is not overclocked, but undervolted bij 50.

It seems high, I will try to heat mine up today to see where I can max out out. At 70 C, that's like 160 F, that's hot enough to cook an egg my friend. Even at 60 C, I would worry. Does it get noticeably hot? Mine can get warm, but not hot, and I feel it in the upper left corner when looking at the screen.

I flashed rom again with no tweaks what so ever. When stressing the cpu now it gets 60 celsius
I did the same test with my cellphone...note 2....and it gets the same temp. Can it be that these note devices just get hot? I haven't got probs with both. Just wondering about the temps

Interesting, well I guess if you have no problems, maybe it's still in a safe temperature range, mine never got over 40 C., for what it's worth. Also, I maxed out my RAM. I have never seen it, but I thought there was a warning if things got too hot.

[Q] Nexus 5 gets hot

Hey guys, Im new to XDA but i have a quick question for all nexus 5 owners. Okay i was just wondering if anyone else's Nexus 5 gets hot. I remember my nexus 4 would get so hot i couldn't touch it. I haven't had that kind of heat from my nexus 5, but it is there and i do notice it. It gets hot near the camera on the back, and it gets hot on the front at the top of the screen. I have a CPU temp monitor running on my device to check if my device is running to warm. I found it averages/hovers around 50 degrees celsius. When i open chrome and do some light browsing it goes up to 60 degrees. So my question is.. Is anyone else noticing their phone gets hot? And does anyone have a cpu temp monitor running and could you let me know how hot your phone is running at?
Thanks
Mine gets hot after a fair amount of time of gaming. Nothing terribly uncomfortable, but noticeable nonetheless.

Yeah mine is warm after just 5 minutes of normal usage non-gaming situations. Not hot but warm. Its starts to get hot to the touch after 15 minutes of heavy usage (ie. Browsing, gaming, etc) . I don't know if this is worth calling Google about and having them replace it, or is everyone's phone like this and I just need to get used to it?
I gotta stop reading on this forum the more more I read about this phone its make me not want it does all the things my Galaxy Nexus does. too not while browsing the internet. Low speaker volume. No flash. Questionable battery life. Might go iPhone...smh
Chrome is the problem. Its resource heavy for no ****ing reason.
I've been using chrome and my phone doesn't work hard at all with the same amount of browsing and tabs I always have open.
So its not the phone. You can expect it to get warm when doing CPU intensive stuff. Gaming would be it. But not hot.

Ew no
guess what. youre using a 2,3ghz quad core device, ots gonna get hot when you use it. and itll cool down quick when you arent using it. thats how its supposed to be, thats how it works.
Okay i think it might be chrome as well. When playing temple run, my device only got to 58 celsius. But when browsing on chrome my device went up to 68 celsius. So now I'm thinking its just chrome?

As the other person stated - Chrome is a resource hog and definitely is part of it. Fully utilizing Google Now with the voice search activated (*okay Google*) can definitely do it. Try Chrome Beta, it's much better.
Does it get too hot to the point it won't charge? That what pisses me off most about my g-nex

i think its normal for the 'warm' touch at the back, it doesn't get quite as hot as the nexus4 becuase of the glass backing
i use tempMonitor app, i get around 47c cpu temp when its warm
im running r12 franco kernel UVing to 920mV at 1.95max ghz
Im using TempMonitor as well. When under normal circumstances (i.e. texting, calling, etc) my phone is running at 45 celsius. But it gets hot as soon as i go online or play a game for like 3-5 minutes. Im sure it must be chrome then. I understand the gaming part and how the processor works, but i didn't realize chrome was that bad. Ill try chrome beta. Anyone else know what temperature there cpu'c are running at?

my cpu is anywhere between 0C and 89C, depending what im doing with the phone. its normal to get hot, especially when doing something taxing. itll get hot, but itll cool down fast when the work is done. thats how its supposed to work. anyone complaining that device cpu temp is hot at 65C just doesnt know any better.

Lol well thats why I was asking and looking through the forums on XDA because I've never experienced a hot phone before. Im coming from the moto x which never got above 40C. That phone wasn't a snapdragon 800 though. I just wanted opinions of if it was just my phone or if everyones phone was like this. And if not should i send it in for replacement.

I know that this is BS because my note 3 which has the exact same processor never goes above 38-39 degrees Celsius even if I'm gaming for over an hour. If you think 89C is normal you're crazy.

So some people say its normal and some don't? Sigh. I hope everyone is talking about CPU temp, not battery temp.

what i see in this statement is pure ignorance. human body temperature is 37C, youre telling me that your cpu NEVER goes more than 1-2C over human body temp, even while gaming? do you live in the antarctic?
your only saving grace will be if you meant battery temperature, not cpu temperature. 39-40C would be normal then.
It's very easy to get wrong temperature readings from sensors btw. Trying to find a good app that reads them properly is not.
Parts of the phone warm up quickly but luckily the bottom bezel area does not.

Oneplus 7 pro overheating?!

When I'm playing games such as Asphalt 9, PUBG or shadowgun legends on max resolution, max brightness and bluetooth on my Oneplus 7 pro's CPU temperature gets really hot, like really hot 73 degrees Celsius when playing for only 30 minutes. The weathers temperature is 17 degrees Celsius. Below is an attachment of the CPU's temperature graph. The screenshots are made a minute or so after closing the game Shadowgun Legends. I'm kinda worried of damaging the hardware with such temperatures. Is it normal to have such high temperatures and does it damage any of the hardware inside? And does anyone experience the same issue?
This just in! Playing graphics-intense games on a phone makes it hot! More at 11:00.
u should have gotten nubia red magic 3 instead.. op7pro is an allrounder.. perfect for modding, camera, display king etc.. it games good but if u want to replace your pc gaming with a phone u should have gone with red magic.. that thing is MADE SPECIALLY FOR THAT.

I understand that a phone gets really hot while gaming but 73 degrees Celsius really scared me.

I really like the phone but as you say oneplus 7 pro is an allrounder. I don't play that often to buy a phone specifically for gaming but I hoped that the 10 layers cooling in the oneplus 7 pro would work a little better.
For some reason the 7 pro is set to throttle at much higher temperatures than normal, I suppose in order to preserve performance but it gets too hot and battery drains horribly fast. Personally I think they should adress this because above 50 is just too much even directly on the SOC, there have been situations like this in the past and they were adressed accordingly.

do you know anything about silicon? these chips can stand over 120 degrees celsius.
the SOC isnt something i'd worry about, maybe the other components, but still 50 degrees is perfectly normal.

I think I should ask you that same question. It's definitely safe for the cpu to go as high as 70 C, but that heat needs to go somewhere and it will fry you fingers, so it's not really great for the user. Your 120 C claim is bollocks, you won't get close to that with any phone component, especially with newer ones, as the lower the process node, the lower the throttling temps are set(at least ideally). The 7 pro doesn't throttle as much as other devices, but it sure gets hotter than them, as anandtech has noted in their review.

i said they can STAND that temperature, not that should get to that temperature.
IMO anything under 60-70 degrees C is safe. if it starts to climb above 70 then i would think something is wrong.
also OP phones have throttling at higher temps, it took 65 degrees for my OP6 to throttle down.
my Pixel3XL would throttle at 45-50 degrees (idle on them was 35 so its nonsense)
I know so many oneplus 7 pro users but you're the first person I've come across of this issue... I'm facing the same issue its even reaching 80°c on my OnePlus 7 pro. it wasn't earlier but this problem came after the latest update and i tried downgrading but it didnt help either so I'm pretty sure its a software bug.
Since there are only a few people OnePlus has not addressed the issue yet just make this issue more popular.

73° is nothing... youre phone cant overheat, it will throttle down to prevent overheating... just play and have fun.
My phone is One plus 7 pro. While charging batter get over heated at 48 degree celceius. I got the messgae display to shut the power as it will not charge the battery beyond 91%. So there is auto temp set us in the phone to take so much heat.
thanks to Oneplus design strategy.
