[Q] Why is the Galaxy Tab 8.9 still $475+? - General Questions and Answers

So I currently have an Asus Transformer Prime and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. I wanted something smaller and I like the Galaxy Tab 10.1 infinitely more than the Transformer Prime so naturally I wanted to go with the Galaxy Tab 8.9 over the Nexus 7. I'm also considering a Galaxy Tab 7.7. I'm not a big fan of the super small 7" form factor.
But seriously... why is the 8.9 still so expensive? I'm having trouble justifying the major price difference between the Nexus 7 and the GTab 8.9 or 7.7.

Perhaps Samsung has to pay for all the fees from their recent legal battles with Apple? :silly:

Nexus devices will always be cheaper ad your not paying for alot of OEM over lay, advertising and extras. It is bare bones android

Frustrating. I might as well just bite it and sell my TF Prime and get the 8.9

[Q] Best tablet on the market?

What is the best Android tablet right now?
I really want
1) 1 GB RAM
2) Dual Core
3) 9.7 inch or superior
4) microSD or SD
5) WiFi
6) Android 3.0
7) light
8) thin
9) Excellent battery
10) Gorgeous display, good resolution
11) Netflix (I don't care if I have to root the phone)
12) Ability to root the tablet (this is VERY important)
13) Price
I would ideally like something that looks as cool as the iPad 2
I REALLY like how Apple makes their devices really thin, especially the iPad 2, it looks SO awesome
Any suggestions?
I want to buy the tablet within the next 30 days or so, I only like to wait if it makes sense. For example, I am tired of waiting for the Samsung Galaxy SII, by the time it comes I won't buy it, it just arrived way too late for my taste
So, if the answer is "Wait 2 months and then..." then I'm not interested
If I have to wait 30 days or so, I guess I can, but I REALLY want a nice Tablet since I've bought numerous games/apps that I think will look better on the Android Tablet
I want to buy the Tablet at Newegg
Here's the (almost) perfect one for you.... The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. It has all what you're looking for (except for the sdcard slot) but has a lot more features and it is available at Newegg at a reasonable price.

yeah he pretty much covered it...i just got a 10.1" galaxy and i love it! it would be nice to have an sd card slot, but 32gb is a decent ammount of space, and if you need more you can get a usb adapter that plugs into the 30 pin connector (basically makes the 30 pin slot a usb slot) and plus in thumb drives and such...android > ios, and the galaxy is actually thinner than the ipads...samsung makes a GREAT tablet!
If your looking to get one right now and not wait than the samsung galaxy that just came out is your best bet. although just fyi you are getting close the shopping season so you are going to see a slew of different models coming out from various companies, and you will always get that buyers remorse feeling as the item that comes out 2 weeks after you buy yours will have some new fancy feature added to it.
But as of right this minute the galaxy should meet your needs.
you can also consider the asus transformer, which is competing with the galaxy tab
The Asus Transformer is $399 the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is $499
The Asus Transformer has Micro SD Card reader the Galaxy Tab 10.1 does not
So, with all due respect to all the previous comments, why should I spend the extra $200?
I dislike Apple's stupid way of charging $100 extras for a simple 16GB of space, and now Samsung (which copies A LOT of Apple, hence the legal problems it has with them), follows exactly the same idea
charge $100 extra for 16GB
So, if I buy the Asus, I can be happy with the 16GB, and then I can upgrade it
Please confirm if the Asus Transformer (which sells for $399) has expansion
So far it seems the difference is the width of the tablet, the Samsung is 30% more thinner
same with the weight 20% more lighter for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
Anyway, I have a $799 limit.
WIth that money I can buy a Turtle Beach PX5 + Asus Transformer and still have $136 credit left, which allows me to buy a Newegg extended warranty
PLus with teh Asus Transformer I have the extended keyboard
Bottom line, the reason why I don't see myself buying a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 is because I am FORCED to buy the 32GB model, since these Apple copycats decided that they need to charge $100 for 16GB
So I don't want to buy something not-upgradable, so I have to go for the more expensive model
If I go for Samsung I would spend $888 for both products, so there's a BIG $200 difference
Hi,
One of the best android tabs around right now would be th Asus transformer, by it's hardware, Asus's update quality, and by it's price. I would definitely go for that one, but maybe wait for the Asus Transformer 2 coming out in a few months ^^

Well, have you actually tested that tablet?
I would REALLY, REALLY like to use it as a e-Book reader.
So, if it weights too much, then it might won't do the trick
Ideally I would like something that feels similar to the iPad, something that feels confortable so I can read books from that thing
Thanks a lot
I'd buy a Kindle or similar for ebooks - it's much nicer to read on for long periods than a back-illuminated screen.

What are you going to buy with your tax return?

I've done this on a few other forums and it's always fun to see what people are wanting to purchase/desire/etc.
I'm the type of person that doesn't mind giving my money, interest free, to the government for a whole year.
My reasoning is simple. When I get it back, it's like a won a scratch off ticket, or hit a royal flush at the casinos.
Plus I've went the other route and I hate owing back.
So I've been thinking a bit on what to get this year. There are a few guns I wouldn't mind picking up (I'm an H&K fanboi as much as I'm an android fanboi)
So it's really going to be tough this year to decide between guns or gadgets. Since this is a dev/gadget forum however, these are the gadgets I may pick up upon receiving my tax return.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 (WiFi only), Motorola Xyboard 8.2 (WiFi only), Motorola Xoom (WiFi only), and a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0+ (WiFi only)
I may sell off a few devices during that time also, but the support is getting there for the 8.9 and 7.0+. The support is definitely there for the Xoom. And I still carry with me a faint bit of hope that something will happen for the 8.2 Xyboard, whether it be price drop, unlocked boot loader, more dev support...something.
Tegra 3 is definitely coming soon, but honestly it's far from being optimized...just take a look at the Prime sections.
The Exynos in the 7.0+ really doesn't get enough credit in my opinion either.
The Xoom is the Original Gangster if you will, and still a very very good tab, especially with Team EOS in the mix.
And the 8.9 SGT is just pretty much the perfect all around tab size.
As far as I know you don't buy anything with a tax return. The return is the paper you mail in or file with them.
I think you mean "what are you going to do with your tax refund?"
And to that, all I can say is hell yea! Bring on the free money checks! Cheap whiskey and loose moraled* womens is mine!
*is that even a word?

The Asus Memo 370T has been cancelled!

http://www.androidauthority.com/rum...or-will-be-priced-at-149-64164/#dsq-form-area
I am extremely disappointed and angry about this. Back in January I was gonna buy a samsung galaxy tab 7.0 plus. But when asus announced the memo 370t I decided to wait for it because it was more powerful. Now I find out that because of stupid google it's been cancelled and replaced with a dumped down version. I don't want that. I'm not poor. I didn't mind spending the extra $100 bucks for it. I could've bought the galaxy tab 7.0 plus back in January. Man I'm pissed. I really wanted that tegra 3 quad-core.

Nexus 7 32GB & Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 16GB

My Employer (we sell craft supplies) made a boneheaded decision to open up an Electronics department. And they bought a bunch of nice TV's and Tablets. Needless to say, business has not been to swell. They are marking all the items down to get rid of them as fast as possible. There are 4 nexus 7 32GB tablets (black) and 5 white and 2 deep gray 16GB galaxy tab 10.1's.
I tried to post in the Marketplace but it seems you have to be some type of pro-member of some sort. I just want to let everyone in on these great deals. Bought a nexus for myself
I can sell the nexus 7's for 230.00 each and the galaxy Tab's for 410.00 each.
Standard Fedex Shipping applies.

New tablet..... Samsung TabPro 10.1 or Note 10.1 2014 Edition

Hi so this is my first post and I have a dilemma. I've had a nexus 7 since release and tbh it never gets used because it's too small and I find my phone easier.
So I am looking a 10 inch tablet for web browsing, emailing the odd game and document viewing.
I had it decided to buy the Microsoft surface 2 (I have £190 of citrus vouchers do it has to be purchased there) which is currently £249.
However there are none left only there website still shows it. So it is now between:
Samsung Galaxy TabPro 10.1 - £299
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition - £329
Tbh I have read hundreds of reviews over the past 3 weeks and cannot decide.
Any owners of the tablets your opinions would be most welcome.
Thanks

Well I really was hoping for some assistance?
