Chimaira RC2 Question - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

anyone know how to get 4G back on this? my rom is only showing H when i was on ICS UXCLF3 Base it was showing 4G
thanks! and yes i check the thread it seems the search function no longer shows under thread tools

I'm not too sure if you can. Since this is an AOSP based rom, you will only see 4G if you are in an LTE area. What rom were you on before when you were seeing 4G? If you are in an LTE area, maybe you need change some of your APN settings?

H is 4G. LTE is something totally different even though it says 4GLTE

Yeah AOSP ROMs just lack the 4G icon, nevertheless it's still 4G.
If you need to confirm for certain, go to Settings > About Phone > Status
When the H icon is up your "Mobile Network Type" should say HSPAP:15 or HSPA+:15 or some such thing, this is 4G (At least on Rogers, it might be slightly different on AT&T, google?)

What rom and kernel combo are you using

With all the development and new roms which combo are you using? I'm currently on nexus mod 4 stock UCLA 3 2.3.6 kernel getting outstanding battery life.
On NexusMOD 4 and was on romracers stockish0.3
just switched to faux010m UV-75 and UC to 1.4. Gonna see how that runs
I tried the faux kernel uv and uc but the silver stock ucla kernel is amazing for me with heavy usage
I would use juggernaught 5.0

I'm using Sky-ICS on the 2.6.35.11+ kernal. Pretty decent battery life, although I am not in a LTE area so I'm not sure how that would be on the battery. ROM is fast, smooth, and pretty customizable.

I have that ROM, it's not missing it.
And every single rom for Skyrocket has LTE Support, actually the phone hardware is always there, that I know for sure.
some ROM's don;t even have an option to choose and still applying apn works perfect. On AT&T ROM the icon will say 4G and small LTE under it, on Rogers it will say LTE.
If 4G is working there is no way you can be missing LTE as LTE is 4G just faster.

AT&T uses regular LTE which is just 4G updated it's called 4G-LTE, Canadian network is way more advanced.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G
coming back to my original point, if your phone shows 4G sign and you don;t get LTE, two reason's 1) you are not in the range for LTE 2) your apk is wrong. This is tested and retested, just change the apn and get in the LTE range and see the magic.

well there u go, becuz I'm on rogers in Canada and LTE is LTE, 4 g is slower. Yes, the LTE radio remains active but the rom is incompatible with the frequencies of Rogers LTE = no LTE. That being said a RAT unlocked radio like kj7 may work, but 1) i highly doubt it, and 2) I never got around to testing this as the UCLA3 modem and kernels combo work great for me

[Q] HTC One X - Force LTE connection?

I have ALWAYS had very poor AT&T service in my house, from my iphone 3g, iphone 4, iphone 4s....as soon as you pull in my neighborhood AT&T service just goes to ***
I got the One X however and realized I can pick up LTE here when the radio first turns on! I can put it on airplane mode, take it off...and I'll get LTE for about a minute. I get 10mbps down instead of the 1mbps when it's just on "4G"
However..this can barely make it through a SpeedTest as it's 1 or 2 bars of service...then it switches from 2 bar 4G LTE to the 3 or 4 bar "4G"
The phone is thinking I get better service with just the plain 4G so it forces me to connect to that....in reality it's a tonnnn slower and much worse.
Is there any APN setting or any root hacks to force the LTE connection? I get LTE pretty much everywhere in town (las vegas) but like I said my neighborhood doesn't seem to be on AT&T's maps!
If you go to your dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#* it will take to a screen where down a bit from the middle is the option "select network type" tap that and there is and "lte only" option. I have read that this works to force only hspa+ but can't confirm it for forcing lte. Give it a shot though.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
I found the screen....Has a bunch of options with "LTE Only" being one of them...however...when I click on that option it flashes as being set to "LTE Only" for half a second and then reverts to the default option of "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto"
Damn, thought you were on to something!

This does NOT work for forcing either HSPA or LTE. It always reverts back to auto. AT&T does not let you choose your network, period. We will not be able to choose the network unless and until we get the Rogers ROM working on the AT&T units (or until someone builds a custom ROM giving us the functionality of Rogers).

Sure it does... rogers devices and debloated ROMs are the only ones that can be forced into LTE mode. It's AT&T ROMs that can't

If you are rooted and have an unlocked bootloader, try a version of CleanRom or a stock rooted rom which is not an AT&T base. I have been able to lock my radio to LTE (only when not making calls that is) with CR V and I am on AT&T. The only thing is that when you make a call you get bumped to 3g/HSPA because AT&T doesn't do voice over LTE

You don't need to change anything. Your battery will only draw more when actually using lte. For example, I get much longer battery life at home (no lte) with a lot more use then I do on days when I work and am in an lte area with little use.

I believe there is a way to turn off lte (personally I don't know how). Data is always on (unless u manually override it) and it picks up the signal. If it picks up data from lte then it shows as lte and if not then it stays at 4g. Sorry, I know I worded this poorly and it is confusing as a result. I feel lte isnt constantly searched for but rather goes through the data (which is constantly searched for). It simply notes whether the data as delivered via lte or 4g. Again, sorry for the rambling post and note that this isn't fact but merely my opinion. If anyone knows for sure, please chime in

There are two radios in the SR, one for GSM/UMTS/EDGE/HSPA and one for LTE. LTE is data only, all voice calls still go over the GSM radio.
The phone prefers LTE for data, so if you're in an area of weak or no LTE service then it searches for LTE periodically. The worst case is areas of weak LTE as the phone will hunt back and forth between GSM and LTE radios.
LTE cannot be disabled in the stock ICS rom.
CM9 has a Network Mode option to select between GSM or GSM/LTE. I switch to GSM only while at home as the LTE signal is marginal there.
You can disable lte thru the build.prop... but don't do it unless you know what you are doing... i have a set of bad ass tweaks that will do this for you and will be posting in the dev section as soon as i get all the bugs worked out

Wouldnt running a RAT unlocked radio keep it from searching for LTE? I run the UXLF3 on mohans stock/deodexed UCLF6 and dialed *#2263# and changed to WCDMA ALL. My way of thinking was even if LTE was on, the phone wasnt searching for it. Right/wrong?
In a different thread about turning off LTE radio, someone was saying that you cannot turn off the radio itself. You can still turn off the LTE mode (which I presume only tells Android not to try to use the LTE radio) if you have a RAT-unlocked radio (e.g. UXCLF3 from Seanz' Sky ICS thread).
I'm using Seanzscream's Sky ICS ROM and in the latest version (4.2F-7B) you can switch off LTE from the Mobile Networks -> Network Mode menu instead of going through the *#2263# Service menu.

Actually mine doesn't work. I saw the option for it so I flashed the uxlf3 and it still doesn't work. Whatever I select holds for a couple seconds and then defaults back to the auto setting. (GSM/HSPA/LTE auto)
That is correct. You CANNOT disable LTE Radio (you can change the preferred network mode).
- You need to be first SIM Unlocked and have a RAT Unlcoked Radio.
- And, you need a ROM with that feature enabled. My EMBRYO ROMS have always supported this (I need it too ).
Will turning off the LTE also disable the 4G? We do not have LTE here in podunk SC. I am running TC JB 4.1.1 with InstigatorX 6.3.4. Would love to keep the 4G but desperate to find a battery fix that works.
I think cm 10 allows you to toggle networks to get 3g not for certain though
I know embryo 5.1 allows network change with requirements

[Q] Sensation 4G with rom on a 3G Data Connection? Help!

This is probably the most noob-sih question asked on these forums, i don't know if it is or not though, anyways,

Is there a way to restore 4G or is it really on 4G but the rom displays it as 3G/H?

Technicly nothing is 'really' 4G yet. It's just a marketing gimmick.
Depending on what rom/theme you are using you can get a mod to make the H turn into 4G. Looking in the Themes and Apps section adn search for '4g icon' or something similar. It will give you whta you want. I don't think the mod works with all roms though so read the thread you find it in carefully.
H is the closest we get to 4g.but if the icon is bothering you perhaps you can change it in your rom settings depending on the rom you're running. However H is hsdpa which is the closest to 4g that your going to get! Even the 4g icon is not really 4g. It's usually hsdpa. It's in reality 3.5g. But most people know H icon is as close to 4g as it gets so h icon is good. But if rom allowed it you can change to 4g icon.

Hi all. I live in the Caribbean and got the HTC sensation 4g. I upgraded my mobile package from edge to 4g however I still see 2g. I tried my sim card in another phone and got H+ which I should be seeing on my phone. The phone is running 4.0 is with sense 3.6. The mobile settings is set to gsm/wcdma auto. Any ideas??
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda app-developers app
You can try to change your data settings to wdcma only. If the signal is available in your area this should give you the 4 G icon. It's worth a try. Here's how it's done. Press *#*#4636#*#* then when the menu comes up press phone information, then another screen will come up, press on your
signal, a sub menu will come up, then press wdcma only, then scroll down and press refresh. This should give you the 4G, or H. Which is also 4G. However this must be done every time you reboot device so remember the code. Also, this will only work if 4G is available in your area. I use this method because I keep going to Edge, even through 4G, is available in my area. It works like a charm for me. Now I received my 4G instead if slow edge! Hope this helps! Let me know. Best wishes.

No LTE with Custom Roms?

I know the skyrocket I727 supports LTE. With stock firmware LTE is not a problem. But when I put any custom ROM it no longer goes to LTE. Is this normal or is their a separate download for an LTE radio in these custom ROMS?
This is not common at all. Check that your apn settings are correct. And you have the recommended radio. What rom are you using?

Radio or modern is the same thing as baseband. I'm not familiar with the slim bean rom so maybe someone who is can give you a better answer. But in Mobil networks, apn on the superlite rom I have three options with one being lte.

Have you run a speed test lately? As said, many custom ROMs don't have an LTE icon; 4G is LTE, H+ is what AT&T considers "4G" in areas without LTE coverage. Have you tried opening dialer up, entering *#*#4636#*#*
Go to phone information, scroll down to a drop down menu. Sometimes it'll say WCDMA preferred. Open it and select LTE and your signal should drop and cone back as LTE. After select LTE/GSM and close it.
Are you sure you were on LTE in the first place? AT&T is kinda misleading with their branding and calls HSPA+ "4G" whereas LTE is "4G LTE".
