So far I have tried cyanogenmod 7 and MIUI and I am very pleased with CM7, it runs smooth for me and has had very little to no trouble with it. Just search around and look at reviews! Hope that helps!

Lol cm7 it's gingerbread not ICS. Cm9 is ICS. I believe decks it's the current title holder for most stable. But good things are one the horizon.
Thanks. I like ICS to much to go back to gingerbread, I'll keep looking around to see which one becomes the most stable.

They all have the same bugs:
Broken wimax, messed up camera, flaky wifi and now a google play bug that's been recently reported.
Just use NewSense. It works.
I know that there was some mumblings about toastcfh rewriting drivers and the kernel for CM9 HTC devices which should fix the issues for Shooter, SuperSonic and Speedy.
Until that's dropped all the ICS roms have something broken. It's just a headache a "newsense" that's just not worth it IMO.

you could try out NEWSENSE ROM V.1 with "somebody's" ICS THEME (located in themes and apps section) to get that ICS look. Also, checkout the thread "share your screens" for an example of the ICS theme look using NEWSENSE...

I have been enjoying ICS Deck Shift by kushdeck thus far, using pb23 with the patches for Bluetooth and Camcorder FC. Stellar work I might add!
I don't use a bluetooth headset, which still is not working, but everything else does. The camcorder does not work but I think you can use a 3rd party app. I don't use it all that often so currently, I am using UStream when I do film exclusively since I had been working with Occupy a bit here and there.
VICODAN :: What are you running these days? NewSense, really? I recall you being verbosely against this in the past
If you don't get 4G in your area then does not having 4G really matter? I'm sick of waiting for sprint to put a tower in my area. I don't use/need Bluetooth. So Vicodan please tell me why I should not run ICS.

True be that.
regarding your comment on 4G, It is so intermittent in my area that using it drains more battery than it is worth having it on. There are still so few towers that it really is not that great yet. Currently it is purely a marketing gimmick until the cellualr providers can better the service for it.

Oh is that true . 4G is so sporadic around here it's ridiculous. I have the best 4G signal anywhere at my house. Which according to the Coverage Map says there is no 4G . But it's all irrelevant at this point.

*side subject here*
Regarding 4G
it really blows that they charge everyone more because of the supposed "4G" Networks..when in fact, we are giving them more money then it costs to fly us to space!! I know this from paying for text messages, simply by giving them x amount of cents per message.. now we tack on the extra amount which costs nearly as much as it does to have regular internet, just really makes no sense. :cyclops:
Back on Target: 4G is great and all, especially when you are in a strong area, but the reality of the matter is their still is not enough coverage for it. Therefore, I can be fine with not having the ability (at the moment) to use it until it's fixed and I'll go with ICS
Very true on several points. But hopefully in the near future Sprint said that even their 3G is supposed to Speed up considerably . Plus all the articles I've come across say that they're going to carry 4G till late 2015. But then again that doesn't mean ISH, because the coverage for 4G isn't going to improve any. So we shall see
I take everything sprint says with a grain of salt.

My gps refuses to work on GB. I tried resetting and recalibrating with the gps App available on the market but to no avail. It seems like it works for about 5 minutes and then it's out again. I'm also not a fan of CM. It's just too much glitz for my taste is all. It seems more clunky than Froyo. Also my battery times where whacked out. It would say 10-15% and just die randomly. I recalibrated the battery and it fixed it but then the amount of play time i got was also considerably shorter. The main thing I missed about sense was all the glossy black, friend stream, and other widgets etc. I've found replacements for most with froyo but i know it would be much smoother if cooked in like sense was you know?

Well I doubt it's our battery because as soon as I went back to froyo all those problems ceased. I would venture to say it may have something to do with building a good cache of battery stats so GB can tell the true life of your battery. It was just not worth it to me. There's no drastic leap forward like there was from 1.5 to froyo. I'm just not sold on it yet. Nothing against anyone working on it. Just my opinion. I just miss clean aosp

Your first link is bad. It's good in the thread lebmb started, though.
Battery issues... Its been repeated a million times in threads and its in the gb wiki as well. Every time you do a data wipe before flashing a rom it erases your battery stats. You have to drain it and recharge it a few times to fix it.
This applies for any rom, as its caused by wiping the data
Edit: And personally this rom has increased my battery life significantly. So for anyone having issues, I'm gonna have to say either your battery is old, or it's operator error

yeah, while sense is nice, id rather run aosp stuff, particularly cyanogenmod. and the current aospCmod is the best rom that i have ever run. i used to use spare parts to speed up my animations, and now i can have normal animations without any lag. this is just fantastic. even the cm7 nightlies arent that fast. maybe a 2.2 sense port needs to be finished before work is started on the 2.3 sense.

Wrong, those 3 or 4 people just stopped using GB and went back to 2.2, because there were lag issues and no one else really accepted that it was a real problem. You're looking at one of those people. I've been flashing and tweaking ROMs since Windows Mobile 5, I'm not new to this game. This was not an operator error.
Just because it works wonderful and dandy for you doesn't mean it does for everyone else, stop with the 2.3 facism and keep this thread on topic, it's getting boring to watch every new non aospcmod thread get shot down.

See i need customer service thats reliable (already had sprint,i get them to do what i want ) and with simple mobile on my cappy i have already changed my number due to people calling it because someone else in my town already had that number. So i changed it and now theres morw people calling over and over even after i tell them they have the wrong number. Anyways, any tips would be great. Also who has had verizon? You do realize that with any carrier any number could have belonged to someone else and the same situation can show its head.
does the epic even have 2.2 yet? on the cappy we can run 2.3 samsung roms for the i9000. the launcher on the epic i used was not configureable, and switching launchers breaks the samsung widgets. this is why i use touch wiz. i cant be bothered finding replacment widgets in the market for everything. i guess you can pull a twlauncher with landscape added from the i9000 forum like the one from gtg. other than that the mms app didn't have contact lookup and multi select. you had to type names. it seemed to be a big pain to send out bulk mms. also there was no way to add contacts to groups in the phone, i thought of that as a way to send out bulk mms but then found that i couldn't do that either. you had to do it with your google account. i don't sync to google so that's annoying. i guess it could be edited in kies full by importing the vcard then clearing your contacts and moving the edited vcard back but i dont know if kies full works on the cdma phones.
the issue with it not having 2.2 is a lack of source code, you wont have the level of development seen on the gsm varients. although you can easily get 2.3.4 with cyanogen mod you have to decide if aosp is what you want. i personally dont like aosp as much as i like the samsung software packages.
all in all the epic is a decent phone but has really ****ty software out of the box. though some of that can be changed the selection is not as good as on the captivate.

Actually the Epic has 2.2.1, so yes, it does have 2.2.
And I don't think the Epic has as many ROM's as the Captivate for 2.3, but the Captivate and the i9000 are the only phones that have a ton of 2.3 ROM's anyways (The Vibrant has a few, but not many).
BUT, no-one's going to get the Epic on Sprint now that the Nexus S 4G is released, 2.3 stock. Beats any SGS phones anyday.

I work with someone that has an Epic, and there is an official 2.2 update out there. He installed it OTA, and it bricked his phone. He's now on his 3rd Epic due to the brick on his first one and a problem with his screen flickering and turning off randomly on his second. He's now getting by on 2.1, but it keeps bugging him to update. I've pointed him to the Epic forums on XDA, but so far he's not confident enough to try custom ROMs, so I can't share any anecdotes about that.
I feel kinda bad b/c my love for my captivate inspired him to get Sprint's sgs, and he's had nothing but trouble. Maybe if he has to return it again Sprint will let him get another model.
it's funny because i speak to a senior cdma systems engineer for samsung on an unrelated forum. im half tempted to tell him he's blowing it but i know alot of the downfalls of the cdma galaxy phones are decisions made over his head and poor carrier cooperation.

the gharge was supposed to have been released already. but problems with the lte network caused them to hold it back. if you want a galaxy s like phone that's the one to get on verizon. though there may be a cdma varient of the sgs2 coming as well. ther is also the continuum which has 2.2 and a smaller screen but there is no development that i can tell going on with it.
I love blackberry form factor, but hate the operating system. So the droid pro seems like an ok idea but going back to 3.1 inch screen from 4,is.impossible lol. Not to mention I'm sure it lags. Damn decision making is too hard

Shame on me.
2 weeks ago I've seen on the Google's homepage "Nexus S a pure Google experience" I clicked and long story short I decided to buy (for $0 of course, the 'only for today' strategy got me..) a Nexus S... at first I was very very very Happy... Frontal camera, video calls with skype, google videos, Gingerbread, NETFLIX (!!!)...
I wasn't really thrilled about the size of the screen... sensibly smaller than the Inspire although the resolution was the same, and the colors... the nexus' screen's colors are kinda yellowish...
I was so happy about the new features though that I've ALMOST sold my Inspire! Then right before selling it my Nexus fully charged during the night dies in my pocket at 4 in the afternoon... A sign from god... I started noticing the abnormal battery consumption and I open my eyes..
Long story short... I m now selling my Nexus S and keeping my Inspire... Using the Inspire after 2 weeks feels like a million dollars.. but now I really miss google videos and netflix!
Does anybody know how to get them on Inspire?? Apparently neither of them are compatible.... BS i say...
Netflix works fine on the latest Gingerbread update for Inspire. I don't know about google videos.

yea - no disagreement here.
And just realized I missed your question about the stability of the GB update - I hadn't heard anything about it being unstable. I'm currently running virtuous unity v 1.33 (GB 2.3.4), which is in Beta, and seems incredibly stable to me. There are other GB ROMs that have been out for a WHILE that are also incredibly stable. If you're already running stock rooted, then you have root and guessing you're s-off, why not flash a custom GB ROM?
Oh no i meant the OFFICIAL one... I tried various roms and the only one I feel confortable with on the Inspire is the stock with sense and stock radio... So when I heard about the official GB update I was very happy... instead it's full of major bugs.. shame.

Oh no i meant the OFFICIAL one... I tried various roms and the only one I feel confortable with on the Inspire is the stock with sense and stock radio... So when I heard about the official GB update I was very happy... instead it's full of major bugs.. shame.

BS i say...

Yes I noticed... I was reading the 62 pages of your thread and you are a damn rock... they threw anything at you ... I'm at page 18, it's quite gripping, better than hbo series lol... XD
BTW I'm gonna download it and report my opinion... I'm hard to change ROM and get too far from the stock/ish ones and this seems what i was looking for..
Anyho... I will keep reading... If you need some customized graphic I'm a (decent) designer... LMK.
Hey all just wanted to see if I was the only one noticing this, but there hasn't been a new ROM in a very long time...I keep on seeing the same ones pop up. Is it because of the SOPA scare? I know it wouldn't have an effect on devs BC of open source though... Hmmmmm kind of inspires me to build roms! (but I would have no Idea where to begin...I'm just a nerd who puts a different rom on her phone every other day lol)

yeah it's true... :/
most of the devs are gone, moved on to newer devices...
i don't think SOPA had anything to do with this... development slowed down long before most of us even heard of SOPA.
yeah, the old ROMs keep coming up.. but new ones will come..
personally, my Team is working on a port right now, we're gonna try to release it ASAP

Jessooca I was meaning to make a thread just to shed some light on this dark subject. As it is the truth most real dev's have left and abandoned us. Which is part of the XDA's natural selection thus comes rise to power of SuperPhone era as our ever weak SmartPhone is no match for those superior monsters. You have to see our phone came out in 2010Q4 and lifespan of it officially is 6-12months. This phone was never HD2-US (Leo1024) where community kept it life well beyond it should have and became the XDA's most defiant device.
When all the stars burns out in the universe and the darkness descend upon us. From far away in the galaxy out of no where a burst of light so strong that it could be seen from everywhere reaches us. As due to high radiation it will omit blue energy and it will be frozen like cryogenic. We the Collectors have foreseen and predicated its coming as it will fulfill prophecy for all ancient legacy devices. It is now known as CyanogenMod which will leave its strong footprint with CM7.2SR when all roms are stopped from being compiled.

Needless to say this phone has almost run it's course, it's powerful an capable of so much. But when team royal split, faux leaving, evil going mia an darkside leaving, that didn't leave us with much. We do have dev's like Feb,Gaza, bsbachert(if he is still around),eqjunkie an the team I'm on, trying to get this phone life support. It's hard but it's possible.
Other phones that been out longer then, I'll use the sensation an example, have better specs then us an is more widely known to mass's. That's why they have so much support. This phone is trying to be something it's not,a high class device to appeal to this mass. Ya our specs look like the DHD. Honestly if I saw this or the DHD next to each other when I bought this phone, well I wouldn't be typing this right now.
All I'm trying to say is, this phone is the messed up little kid that's trying to make up for all the bad things it's done.

Edit:I think that's my longest post to date, lol.
DhD-EU came out before MT4G. As we know EU folks always get superior hardware before us in USA. So when Glacier came out it was the most powerful HTC GSM device in US market. After which CDMA Vz-TB came out as it was devised version of DhD-EU for US market.
Like you Mr High I also picked MT4G. I was aware of MT4G in end of July 2010 as didn't waste time trying to buy Desire Z/G2 as DhD while perfect replacement for HD2-US was not viable candidate for me in the USA due to network capabilities incompatible with TMobile's HSPA+. So I got MT4G few months before it was dropped to TMoUS or I had another choice to pick SamSUX Nexus S (which is another thread of its own don't even get me started).
For those of us who is welling to stay with MT4G they should know that it is actually powerful enough hell we got 2gs 1ghz proc with 768mb ram. If we don't see official CM9 we might see some KANG's. But not to worry we can still use official CM7.2SR as AOSP2.3.7GB itself is not that bad. So if anyone is welling to take the stand with GB with me then I will release the 42.3MB GB2.3.X enhancement package. Which is a super power boost for all AOSP based rom using AOSP2.3.5GB-AOSP2.3.7GB.

Quite honestly it happens to all the mytouch line. Take a look at the mytouch 3g and slide forum....you can hear the dust falling. It looked like it was gonna die here back at the beginning of the summer then eViL d dropped fusion and it seemed to pop back to life. It happens. I'm actually liking flashing older stuff. I'm sure it will get boring but I forgot how complete and fast some of the older roms can be. I'm running doubleshot now and its running smoother and more fluent than 3.5 roms on here and I didn't have to flash 4 different things to get it working properly. You tend to forget that these devs on here made stuff that actually works for our phone and not some multi device rom that never gets supported. I'm not speaking of Virtuous....lol!

I think the reason phones like the Galaxy S, or the Sensation, or even the DHD get so much support cause they're international devices, so devs all over the world can dev for those phones, unlike us here, who only have the US devs. Lol no one else even knows the existence of the HTC Glacier

I agree that things definitely have slowed down around here. Newer and better devices are coming out all the time though. But we do have some pretty sweet roms to pick from already though.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using xda premium
sure development has slowed down a bit, but we also have had some GREAT devs coming through here and working their magic. I mean just look at all the ROMS that are available to us...Froyo, Gingerbread, ICS, Sense, AOSP, MIUI...and with plenty of ROMS to fill each category(well except for ICS currently) I mean if you stop for a second, and really browse through the development section youll see awesome work. IMO, Id prefer a high quality rom that works in every way rather than always flashing the newest and greatest thing while dealing with all the bugs and what not. just my 2 cents on the whole thing...

There are no new ROMs in the wild besides crappy betas. No stable Sense + ICS, no similar devices with proper ICS. What development are you looking for? How many different versions of Sense 3, Sense 3.5, MIUI and half-baked ICS do you really need?
What is left - TouchWiz? Cross-device porting is a huge task, that requires tons of skills, and I wouldn't expect it to happen.
What are you guys pros, cons, and recommendations.

Great phone, few annoyances
Overall I think it's a great phone, with a lot of potential. The battery life blows the Epic out of the water, the reception is WAY better, and the keyboard is amazing once you get past the initial learning curve.
Even the stock ROM is not that bad.. My only real gripe is the lack of any toggle buttons in the notifications menu. That drives me insane, I use those constantly and HATE having to go into the settings every time I want to turn anything on or off.
I am, however, eagerly awaiting a root method and some custom ROM goodness. Which will quite easily take care of the majority of my gripes (besides the non-removable battery).

I hated that damn epic. this phone is superior in every way. contrary to the "bigger is better" hype, I like the size of the phone. It fits nicely in my hand and I don't have to be a contortionist to get my fingers across the screen. the only issue I have to complain about so far, besides the lack of toggles, is that if you have head phones or a bluetooth device connected, the notifications play thru it instead of the back speak. But that could user error on my part.. It isn't that much thicker than the original Photon. I'm holding them both in my hands right now and the weight isn't that much different either, especially for a slider. I'm not in to much of a hurry for any custom roms. but it would be nice to have root. I'm sure shabby or one of the other great devs will have that taken care of soon enough...

There are other alternatives, just giving 1 example.
So far, my thoughts on this device are that it is amazing! This could just be because i'm upgrading from a DROID Eris from Verizon, but this device does just about everything right!
The keyboard is by far the best one I've used on a mobile device, its very tactile and the back light is bright and adjustable. The phones performance is top notch, no lag in apps or just scrolling around. I've even gotten my ps1,n64,and gba emulators running great with keys mapped to the keypad
My internet browsing experience is been quite good, even though I'm still using sprint's 3g network, all websites load up quick and are smooth.
The screen looks fantastic, although it isn't full HD, colors are vibrant and watching videos is great on the phone. Overall, i am VERY pleased with the device so far, and i cant wait to see what developers have in store for it!

Better than the Galaxy S III?
So, the question for me is how does it compare to the Galaxy SIII?
Well the sg3 was out because samsung does not update crap. So I was leaning towards the htc evo lte when I heard about the photon q. Sometimes I have to compose some sizable emails for work and the touch typing can get pretty frustrating in those situations, so I end up using my epics keyboard a lot. Even thought about getting the htc and a blackberry just for emails for work

i did actually, froyo came a little slower but i understand why, back then AOSP was really closed off towards just the nexus one. you want proof in that look at how long it took from eclair to froyo vs froyo to gb, samsung had based the nexus s off its samsung galaxy line so it was able to know how to have the code work on the humming bird a hell of a lot sooner. in fact the gingerbread update was posted the day ICS was announced, thus making the epic only 1 update "behind". granted its two now but its also past its two year mark (or rather tomorrow it will be, i remember picking mine up on august 31st 2010 launch day)
the epic 4g touch launched with gingerbread not that long ago it got ics and will prolly get jellybean someday. sgs3 launched with ICS and the tmo version already has leaks of JB, meaning it will prolly happen soon.
now lets compare that to the photon (im sure a few other moto phones fit this bill) launched with 2.3.4, after 7?8? months got an update to 2.3.5 instead of ICS, ICS is coming later this year which means it will only be one update behind until Key Lime is released this november, what do you think the odds are of the photon getting jellybean officially? so as of this november it will be 2 behind and stay that way, considering photon owners are 1 year into their 2 year agreement for that device doesnt leave a lot of hope.
