Easy to follow 21y baseband tutorial? - T-Mobile LG G2x

All the tutorials i seem to find require xp, dont mention anything about windows 7 comp. (they are unsure). Ones that havnt been updated to reflect the newest patch that came out from LG....
So does anyone have a link i could steal from you that is an easy to follow that will work with windows 7? I have no XP available anywhere. Scared to even try this since im reading about boot loops etc. Would like to be on the newest baseband but if its going to be this much trouble than i can wait.

I used this on win 7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674901.... And for the sound update you were referring too the update only works on stock rom and will be flashed over with a custom rom so it's basically useless if you don't stay on stock lg rom

so should i use owains fix for that once rooting it and than flashing cwm back onto it. After that i would imagine flashing EB ics rom to it and it should be good to go right?

Unless you plan to stay on stock rom i wouldnt update your bb. I updated and found out that only the stock rom has working bluetooth with it. Ended up down gradng the bb which is harder than updating it.

Clockwork Failing? help?

ok, so I picked up the Cappy tonight, did alot of reading,
PLEASE NOTE, I have a Rogers Galaxy S Captivate SGH-I896, On Froyo 2.2
I successfully rooted the device with superoneclick,
downloaded Rom Manager, Flashed Clockwork recovery for Galaxy S Captivate
Reboot to recovery, select re-install packages, FAILED Signature...and aborts,
What am I doing wrong here?
Is there a better method? Every guide I read said to do it with rom manager...do I need to flash the stock rogers GB with bootloaders? then retry clockwork again?

Thanks thats exactly what i needed, i now have cm7 loaded up.
one question tho, while cm7 would install fine i initially tried to flash the ICS port by teamhacksung and it resulted in a bootloop, is there some step im missing? are someupdates only installable from internal sdcard?
You must be on a mtd based rom, which cm7 is, (touch wiz roms are bml based) before flashing to ics. U should be able to flash ics with no problem now.

ok will give it another shot!
Enjoy, it's quite different
Well, ics successfully flashed this time.
Only difference from my last attempt was I flashed a cm7 nightly instead of stable, also once on cm7 I flashed a newer radio as well as the glitch kernel. Dunno what had affected it before but its now running nicely on ics build 9.
Thanks for the help guys, I guess where I got hung up is where cwm resides in the kernel on this device? Where on all my htc's we simply flash cwm over the stock recovery. Anyways thanks again!

The glitch kernel is not compatible with ics, as of yet. It was over written when u flashed ics I'm pretty sure.
Well being completly new to this device was a lot of learning, I still have no idea what I did wrong initially to get stuck in bootloops, but I somehow managed to get cm7 working and then up onto ics so all is well as far as I can see now. Its a backup device for us so I'm pretty sure I will only be flashing ics as it matures. Must say the ics on the cappy is pretty far ahead in terms of usability compared to the desire z, great work here from your devs! And thanks for the pointers guys!

Best GB ROMs?

I want to go back to GB as I'm not satisfied with the ICS ROMs I've tried (only had this phone a few weeks). Dev board is flooded with ICS, any GB suggestions?

I highly reccomend Oxygen, only problem I ever had with it was sending and recieving mms. Other than that I say it is lightening fast and stable.
Were you able to fix the mms issue?

i'd say BrainMaster's MIUI 2.3.7 ROM , i was running it before i updated to ICS

Peter Alfonso's GPA19 ROM is the most stable one that I tried. Look for Peter Alfonso's site and click the Downloads link for crespo. I would post a link here, but XDA's nonsense won't allow it.
Download the 12-07-11 one to get the latest GB version. There aren't a lot of customizations like CM, Oxygen, MIUI, etc., but it's stable as hell. The latest Oxygen (2.3.2) has a REALLY obnoxious, and largely ignored, backlight notification bug where you have to reboot to get the lights to go out... only way I've ever found to fix it is to install another kernel. However, Peter Alfonso's got one of those too... just go to his site and it should be on the second page of the "blog."
I know you said you didn't like ICS, and I didn't either at first, but Pete's ICS ROMs are also great and very stable. The latest is 01-30-12, and you can get it from the same crespo download page.
question.
hey man i got a question, could i use peter alfonso's rooted stock rom for gingerbread (right?) when downgrading, right? instead of re rooting it.

I'm currently running Euroskank CM7 kangs.
Wow, really. I don't have any ICS envy seeing how sweet those kangs are. They're smooth as butter and stable too! Checking my phone, my current uptime is 132 hours (5.5 days) since my last reboot, which was to flash the latest kang back then.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. Both of his ROMs are pre-rooted, so no, you won't have to re-/root anything. But since you're going from ICS to GB you'll have to wipe everything, so there's no real "downgrade" path.
From a rooting perspective, the only difference I've noticed, that's kind of annoying, is that his GB ROM contains busybox and his ICS ROM doesn't. It's not a deal-breaker since there are Market apps to add it in, but it's kind of annoying that the binary has to be re-linked after each update/flash.

Im asking that if i can reverted back to gingerbread version without loosing root, may i install his pre-rooted stock without loosing root. Thats all, but since you mentioned it, im relived to revert it back. but i couldnt find his link could you provide me one? Also is it regular to flash it back to gb or is there a special method to do it?
I can't post links yet because our fine friends at XDA say that I need to post more for the privilege. Pfft.
You should be able to type peter alfonso downloads crespo and get to the page. 12-07-11 is the latest GB version (GPA19).
There's no "special" method for flashing, just do what you would do when going from one incompatible ROM to another... wipe data/factory reset, format cache partition, format /system, wipe dalvik cache. There are probably a million different combinations that different people will give you for the proper install, but that's what I normally do.
Tryout CyberGR's CM7 MOD and you won't go back:

perfect, and uh before i do that it could be any rooted gb rom right? just curious, that's all.
Don't mean to hijack the thread but what if I wanted to put a custom GB ROM on top of stock GB rom. I'm curious if you can just flash without wiping? Or should I do titanium backup instead?

[Q] Flashed new ROM, no call audio

I'm new at trying out different ROM's. I rooted my phone, installed CWM through NVflash.
Here's my issue: I've tried both Hellfire GB 2.1 and EaglesBlood ICS 4.0.4. First let me say they both seem to have done great jobs!
The problem I'm experiencing is with placing calls. I tried calling my voicemail and there is a LOT of static and I can only faintly hear the voicemail behind the static. I've tried this through the earpiece, speakerphone, and on a bluetooth headset.
I followed flashing instructions precisely: wipe wipe wipe (even with the Nullifier), install ROM zip, then gapp zip. Boot up and wait 10 minutes.
I backed up my original (T-mobile GB 2.3.4) and can restore to that with no problem making calls.
Help?
try reading a little more next time, the new baseband will not work with anything besides 2.3.4...2.3.4 rom will only be able to make calls on 2.3.4 roms... the only other way is to revert back to 2.3.3 (V21e)

Sorry I tried various search words, and I'm not sure what "baseband" is haha.
Am I understanding you right: I have to find an older Gingerbread ROM, flash that on my phone, and THEN I can flash to something newer like EaglesBlood 4.0.4?
My phone was GB 2.3.3 until about 2 weeks ago with the OTA update to 2.3.4.

No, once you get the official OTA update with the new March 2012 baseband (you can check which baseband you have in settings>about phone) you CANNOT flash any other custom ROM other than the official OTA update or a rom that is based of it because of compatability issues.
The only way that you can flash the Eaglesblood ROM or whivhever ROM you want is to downgrade down to the v21e ROM for the G2x if you search on XDA youll find some instructions on how to do so
Hope this hhelps clear up some things

I've recently downgraded from ICS ROM Genesis Stable Build 1 after having some lagging issues and problems with call audio.
I just wiped and flashed CM7 HF Phoenix with Trinity T15 kernel, but I'm having similar problems that I had with the Genesis ROM. I updated to the newer baseband on Genesis to correct some call audio issues, but I'm now having the same problems after downgrading back to CM7.
I already tried GetRIL and have matched my baseband, but I'm still having the call audio problem. Do I have to revert back to stock and reflash or is there another solution?

need some quick help with this one

took both mine and my wifes g2x back to 2.3.4 stock. ran the updated baseband on both but for some reason her's still isn't making/receiving calls. also her baseband is showing jul 15 2011.
i did this to hers last night and didn't bother checking it. now shes on a 8 hour road trip with our 2 girls and has no phone.
i also tried the lg support tool but the phone has a jacked up charger port and would never connect to my computer.
If she has the July 2011 baseband try putting the 2.3.3 ROM on it or if she still has CWM installed flash this on her 2.3.4 ROM and see if it fixes it http://db.tt/abISGgzB

If she's still on the 2011 baseband then any cyanogenmod rom should work as well... her phone wont work because she has a v21e baseband and is running a v21y rom.
This has been the cause of alot of confusion on the forums the last couple months.
Hope it works out.

I'm not positive that is entirely correct, I haven't been around here much but last time I checked that latest CM nightlys only work with the latest 21y baseband.
she's on stock 2.3.4. lets not worry about custom roms cause there is no way im talking her through downloading and installing a rom
what i don't get is i used the same zip file to do both of ours. after doing the exact same thing on both i ran getril and mine passed but heres did not. mine is good with 21y and her's prompted for 21e.
is it just a simple fix of her d/l'ing 21y through getril?

Like I said before she needs a v21e based rom not a v21y based rom.
And no all new cm aren't only for the new baseband.
Just because its a custom rom doesn't mean its any more complex or unstable, in fact with this garbage device the custom roms are more stable than the stock ones as far as I'm concerned.

Definitely above - you need to flash the bandwidth - either the fix or flash newer. Lots of threads here about that. I got lucky and had done the update through LG before starting with custom roms and it updated it for me which allows me to use ICS and JB roms with no issues. I was also extremely impressed with the increase in reception with the new baseband. I can now stand in the middle of my house and make a call while hubby with his Blackberry stock Torch has to go stand on the porch!
