so.. do you use z-ram? does it help anything? notice differences? just wondering what the general consensus on z-ram is.
option 1: you use it and you notice that it helps with performance
option 2: you use it only for the sole purpose that it is available to you but you dont notice anything different
option 3: you dont use it because you dont see any benefits from using it or it causes problems (i.e. battery drain)
option 4: you dont use it because you dont believe it will help or dont trust it or just want to stick to simplicity
hmm.. i guess option 3 and 4 are essentially the same lol

for the first time, i installed my ROM without z-ram and so far i havent noticed any performance decreases but i did notice that my battery lasts a tad bit longer without it
ill probably stick to not using it.. seems like a gimmick

It helps with multitasking. It is not a performance tweak but rather a convenience.
It basically holds the app in memory so that when you get back to it, it will open fastet.

+ Using "Z-Ram" will give u more Free RAM n slightly better multitasking advantage.
- It will drain ur battery fast.
Now it depends on u if u wanna use it.
Do you have any numbers or data to show battery drain while using zram or is this based merely on observation?

Pure personal observation.
I used to have zram, but seeing the battery drain I disabled it in the next flash.

nope I dont use it, never noticed a difference
where is the zram script located?

Thanks guys really appreciate it.. hopefully it saves a little bit of battery life.. thanks again..
Correct me if I am wrong (happens a lot) but I thought z-ram takes some of your ram (80-90 mgb) and uses this to cache data for background apps rather than use a portion of your sd card. This would mean more streamlined multitasking and less wear for your sd card. I notice no difference either way, bit use it cos my 32 gb card cost me a lot, and want it to last forever lol.

i'm on vipers rom. initially i used yank555's modded faux kernel with zram, and many times my ram went down too low causing lags.
now i changed to sebastianfm's kernel and disabled zram via axetilen's mod. i dont have low memory problem anymore, no more lag and seems better battery life too. so i dont use zram because i think it's unnecessary.
Thanks to All, another thing to learn from experienced users... I'm very new with Android OS, i had no regretted switched from iphone to Android.
It sounds good in theory, but I've never noticed any difference.

It would be a value somewhere that could be changed but will require some digging around and probably root access.
Perhaps the limitation is built into the camera app itself. Does this limitation occur with any 3rd party camera app?
This limitation has been the same for all HTC phones released in the last 12 months or so. My old Desire HD used to do the same thing when the battery was "low".
it is pretty annoying, im sure a developer will find it soon, just needs a little digging around like jivemaster said.
Yeah, it is annoying. Gotta have your battery charged in case you go out at night I guess.
oh alright then
It is very annoying for me also. I usually go out for half hour and have 30-40% battery charged so mostly it goes below 30% and not having falsh enabled is a big mess. Since I am a photography lover & I love to capture precious moments. Someone should come up with with a way around.

Have you tried disabling power saver?
i always have it disabled
I had same problem. Solution for me was upgrading to latest ROM (2.3.4 ->1.45.401.2 ) ofcourse original, HTC ROM, because I bought this phone for sense 3.0 (i don't know why people write new ROM without sense and say ... My ROM is better... There is something wrong with them...I think.. ...

Flash a custom kernel. I know faux's kernel's have lowered the limit to 10%.
Controlled by the kernel.
Some custom kernels lower the threshold (as long as power saver is off).
Check the Sensation Development section and read up on kernels.
Faux and Bricked both offer lower thresholds, I believe. Check Unity as well.
The features and changelogs will be in first or second post of Kernel thread.

I think it is great idea! What if you got ALOT of stuff to backup, and flash at the same time, and suddenly the battery runs out.. Think about that.
I have had this question on the back of my head but until now I realized that is something that I wanted to ask.
If you flash a ROM will you be lowering the phones life?
I know that our phones have a memory but I wanted to know is if every time that you flash a ROM it lowers the life of the phone significantly or not.
Your answers are appreciated
Anyone?

I shouldn't significantly impact your device. I have a g1. Yes a g1. And I flashed any different roms and never had a problem.BUT on the other hand the sdcard does. I have at least both 4 different sdcard with in 2 years. So I recommend not creating a ext4 on your sdcard unless u want to

try removing any apps you don't need/use
I'd also recommend getting S-OFF/ROOT and installing a custom ROM.
There is a guide on how to do all of this in the Development section
Wasnt so intetested in rooting.
I have reset phone, and still the same? Its only been like it since last update, i guess i will have to suffer it for now?
Get an overclocking app and set it properly,if you dont have one itll run at the stock speed for that kernel

not to scare you, but you might be a "victim" of unresponsive screen on sensation. i'm having the same issues also. check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129272
Download CPU Master (its the only one that has worked on all OC kernels for me) open it>Allow root permissions>max speed (set to over 1000) >min speed (set to 192 or above)

Hi I'm new to sensation dev and I have a quick question I'm use sense 4.0 Rom with faux123 kernel I was just askingif there is a battery mod or something to help save battery?
Oh yeah the Rom is ordroid 8.6.5 4.0.3
Sent from my Sensation 4G
I think there is but I'm not sure of link but wanted to ask are you still stock battery? It helps a lot if you upgrade to a longer lasting battery say like Anker. I use Anker and its made a huge difference in my battery life. Also after flashing rom, make sure battery is at 100% then plug into charger, go into recovery, wipe battery stats, then unplug. This helps a lot. Also make sure things like sync is turned off for things you don't need, stop non needed running applications in the background, turn off blinking notifications , turn off feedback vibration ect, make sure backlight is minimum brightness, doing these things with a better battery will really help you! You will be surprised how much more time you get with Anker battery. I wish you the best! Hope you get the better battery because is really made a difference !
ps I'm running Ordroid 8.6.5 also

Yes there is. Look in my signature and chose the power-saving option from that page it leads to. It is extremely good and although it only ever uses one core I can't notice a different in speed, only an epicly increased battery life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are some apps like browser, fb, tapatalk, whatsapp, etc which I use very often.
They take from 1-3 secs to open. Is there any way to keep these apps in memory, in order to open them faster? I noticed that cached apps are mostly some apos I never use. I compare it to my iPhone which opens apps immediately. Is there any solution?
Edit: don't tell me to oc, I'm asking a different thing

What are you using for a Rom? Sense 4 Roms tend to kill background processes pretty aggressively to keep the launcher in memory.
I've noticed that if I run something like Hypernonsense Rom, apps like the ones you mentioned open much quicker than the same apps on a Sense 4 Rom. However I'm currently into Sense 4 so I'll take the extra second.

Zram helped when I was on Viper...
Also, Anthrax kernel was better than bricked, IMO.
CM10 is a lot better than ViperS... apps are loading faster, and things are much snappier... on default settings... try it out... but then again you seem to prefer Sense to Holo...

Download Pimp My Rom from the Play Store and go to the TOOLS tab then click on Lock Apps in Memory. You can then select which apps you want to have locked in memory.
I am just reading the sensation xe threads because I ordered it and is on the way, but currently I am using my old budget android, which had lots of lag (and one of the main reasons I actually ordered the new sensation xe).
The other day I found this thread and installed this and it is just insane at removing lag and doesn't pump up the cpu or use more battery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1987032
The developer's reason for why it works seem to be incorrect, and other people (including android's own developers) don't know exactly why it is working either (other than it's not the reasons stated by the developer), but just about everyone agrees that whatever the reason, it does work and significantly (on any non new / top-of-the-line phone because those don't have lag anyway).
It is also available at the play store if you want auto updates and to say thank you to the awesome guy who developed it:

It forces the CPU to stay online and not idle because it wakes it up every second, so that's probably why there's a speed increase.
