[q] was 2.3.4 tmousa ota worth it?

Hey guys, I have been crapping myself all day over this OTA. I know many of you HAVE installed it...
Now heres the big Q...Was it worth the trouble? I really dont have any sort of problems with my phone as is, and it would be a big bother to apply this as I am S-OFF AND perm rooted.
I use ADW EX and have Sense frozen solid with TB. I plan to flash CM7 whenever it makes its way to us...I find my phone is fast and very responsive as is. My battery, chichitec 1900mA, lasts 25-30 hours.
Who would just wait for CM7? I dont see the point in stressing over all this if I wont see a bit of a difference. Will I be missing out on anything major?

2.3.4 brings some big improvements (speed/performance and some extra functionality). But I would suggest flashing a 2.3.4 based ROM. They're better than stock anyway

yes, speaker volume is alot better now, phone seems smoother, and htc likes. just what i've notice so far. love this phone. get compliments on it all the time.

I bricked my last phone htc desire z overclocked to 1,5 . Now i have sensation and i want to know which rom is with default kernel with no overckloking,because i m afraid of bricking this one too.

Sorry to hear about your HTC Desire Z, that's annoying. When you get your confidence back I'd recommend trying HyperSensation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302969
It doesn't overclock the CPU (as standard) and there really is no need to do so, I run it using a slightly tweaked (lower screen off max and lower minimums for both) version of the settings in post #3 (with bricked kernel)

There is a lot of things that can brick your phone. Not only the kernel.
I would recommended the Rom posted above (and in my sig). I have like 20 hours battery time, with moderate use. If you flash a new kernel, you can underclock, and maybe get more battery time. You really dont need ~1200 MHz on some roms, if you don't play a lot of games and so.

What do u think could wifi tethering brick my dezire z,my battery was too hot when tethering was on.i connected it to the charger and in the morning it didnt boot.also no recovery mod was available

Have a look at the Insert Coin ROM if you install it, it will just come with the stock kernel and everything runs really nicely

Honestly, I don't see why or how wifi tethering could in any possible way brick your phone, since it's a given option from the factory.. I mean I'm still new to the HTC phones so I could be wrong, but I highly doubt that tethering is one or if any a reason why you bricked your other phone.

I havent decided whether I like roms with or without sense UI. I ran croedroid for a bit and revolution hd but i find i get random turn offs where i have to take my battery out to restart my phone

Desire z doesnt have wifi tethering fron factory,i used to have CM7 and it had tethering function,i think thats why battery was too how when it was on

I have tried all HyperSensation versions since 0.2 and can prove that it's lightning fast even being reduced to 800MHz maximum. Everything works great, except CSipSimple which plays no sound with it.
Without CSipSimple I've got about 60 hours of life on batteries with about 20 hours of wifi-connection, 6 hours of playing mp3's and about 40 minutes of phone-calls.
BTW, SIP-callers somehow interfere with phone.android app with fatal errors and force close events while trying to make a call. With ARHD I do not notice such behavior.

Same here, I strongly recommend to try HyperSensation. Awesome battery time, smooth like a baby's butt. I haven't had any issues at all. Best Rom I've ever tried.

For those who have tried the recently released ICS rom made for this phone. Is the phone faster with ICS? Does it live longer on a full charge?
My Sensation dies after using it for 9-10 hours after a full charge using the latest official rom.

It's an early test version but I have noticed much better battery life getting 30 hours with some fair use vs 20 (anker battery)

With my Sensation. It's faster, muck more faster. And the batery life is still normal

I didn't find much speed increase on virtually all sense ics roms, currently using closest to AOSP - virtuous. They are in fact all laggy to say the least but good enough to be a daily driver. However, battery life is definitely better. I also recommend juice defender app for improved battery.
Waiting for pure AOSP....

I have tried all the ICS builds available as many have and honestly, battery may be a bit better but thats it. They can be used as a daily I image but personally I am holding off. I am sure its kernel related and an early build combo that equals sub-par performance but you will definitely experience lag. The Devs have done a stand up job with it but just not enough available to them to really get it right. I dont know how long you have been around Android but it reminds me of running Sense on my G1, yes it works but...

Yes, I agree a tad bit laggy, improved battery.... A little bit.
But the main improvements are with the UI and the new gapps. I find all the new interface tweaks are really useful, like multi user sign in directly from a pop up in the browser when you log in online, or being able to put a slick folder on the app launcher bar, or the new gmail app .....
So maybe not for a speed deamon... But go through the available tweaks.... Get the 2nd CPU online and try it, it works very nicely. Personally using ARHD and find it a very usable day to day ics ROM.

i`m getting about 22 hours on a single charge, wi-fi, mobile data, auto-sync always on with a moderate-high usage. it`s much better since the best with a gb rom was about 12 hours

For ICS, do you guys use Radio version 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 or the latest 11.59.3504.00U_11.16.3504.16 ??

the first one and it's running great...

Day 1 report on ICS (Virtuous v1.3.0 ICS) - after 4 hrs, I'm only down to 92% on battery.
Previously I was running CM7.1/alpha10 (GB) and the battery-life was aweful (It was an alpha, I know, I accepted that). After 4 hrs on that ROM, tho, I would have been down to 75% typically.

I think there is but I'm not sure of link but wanted to ask are you still stock battery? It helps a lot if you upgrade to a longer lasting battery say like Anker. I use Anker and its made a huge difference in my battery life. Also after flashing rom, make sure battery is at 100% then plug into charger, go into recovery, wipe battery stats, then unplug. This helps a lot. Also make sure things like sync is turned off for things you don't need, stop non needed running applications in the background, turn off blinking notifications , turn off feedback vibration ect, make sure backlight is minimum brightness, doing these things with a better battery will really help you! You will be surprised how much more time you get with Anker battery. I wish you the best! Hope you get the better battery because is really made a difference !

Yes there is. Look in my signature and chose the power-saving option from that page it leads to. It is extremely good and although it only ever uses one core I can't notice a different in speed, only an epicly increased battery life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overheating and should i buy a new device

hi guys,
overheating is a known problem of the sensation, and lots of people gave advices on solving this problem,here are the methods i tried:
under voltage
underclock(to1000Mhz)
buying a new battery
take off the case
etc....
but.....these methods DIDN'T WORK.
i dont play games at all,just use 3g data to browse the web and whatsapp and the phone just heat up instantly when i turn it on.
is there any possible methods that can keep my phone cool but i dont need to take it to the north pole? if i cant solve this annoying problem,i'm gonna buy a new phone.
if i really need to buy a new phone ,which one should i choose?i dont have much money

You should try different kernels and see how they work.
If you want a new phone now, I would probably buy the HTC one. Otherwise I would wait until the middle of may (to see what Google had unveiled at Google IO) to buy a new phone. Android 4.3 is supposed to be unveiled

i have tried many rom,such as arhd,viper s1.6.3, 3.0.1,miui jb....and i am now using albinoman887's cm10.1 apr26 build(without changing kernel and underclock to 1080mhz, 2d gpu200, 3d gpu 300).
and for kernels:sebsation's overclock,sultan kernel(sense) ,brick,PYD-X
hboot1.27,s-off,firmware 3.33
but i think is my phone 's problem,because whatever rom or kernel,i still need to put it into the fridge frequently.
btw,i have heard that the one x also have the heating problem,and its tregra processer seems slower than other processer(snapdragon ) running the same frequency. can anyone using the onex/x+ tell me if these problems exist?

Lol...40 c is nowhere near overheating... Overheating is like 50 C. Going up to 46-48 C is normal when you are gaming. 44-46 C is the range when I browse the internet/YouTube.
Anything above 55~60= sensation explodes
@sunnytse1 what is the temp of your battery when it "overheats"?

Ouch. Okay. But sometimes it gets hotter than 40. Like 46 upwards. Besides my battery last for only 3 to 4 hours when I browse d I get Dr and Twitter. Fb. And shii

I think 46-50 is pretty normal for heavy internet usage, but anything above 50 you should definitely give your sensation a rest because it can automatically shut down if it's too hot. Also, I wouldn't over clock your phone past 1.5/1.6 GHz.
3-4 hours on a stock is decent. If you need a better battery, I would buy the anker 1900 mAh. Since the stock sensation battery is only 1520 mAh(which is terrible), it's not that surprising to see it last only 3-4 hours. Your battery life also depends on the age of it. I would consider changing a battery if it is 2+ years old...

I'm not talking about battery overheating,but the cpu.i use kernel tuner to check the temp. ,average is 60c,and the highest is 83c.battery temp is always incorrect,25c????!!!!(what the hell?!?!?!)

Can you post some screenshots?
I think 60 C is fine for the CPU processor, since the battery is only at about 41-42 C. The CPU temp should be higher than the battery temp so I think 60 is fine for the CPU. On the other hand, 83 is way too hot.

Well, like I said in my other post, there's a difference between CPU temp and battery temp. as long as your battery temp is not more than 60.
Of you want to keep your CPU temp low, then don't over clock your cpu too much ( or don't over clock at all). Also, don't overclock 2D or 3D GPU either. That might help lower the temps.
If you are getting crazy number for your temps 25 C for battery, I would try to erase battery stats in recovery mode (4EXT) even though people say that erasing the stats do absolutely nothing. Hopefully that helps. if that doesn't work, I would try sultans kernel with aroma installer so that you can customize your preferences.

i do battery calibration every day lol...and i set kernel preference using 99kerrnel file in system.

Hmm... have you tried different ROMs? what about formatting all partitions and reflashing the ROM?
I'm running out of ideas... The last I can think of is full/partial wake locks, but that is not completely relevant either. See if you have a certain app that is constantly running in the background. If you need a helpful app, I would try wakelock detector from the Google play store...
