It depends ...but seems to be complicated at this time I recommend you to use an online tool to change framework Ultimate Online Theme Kitchen
to change things from scratch use APK_Manager but this is an advanced task for people they develop a custom ROM so be careful every wrong entry in framework will result in an unusable phone -stuck at bootanimaton so take care about and do a nandroid backup before so you can restore your phone to a working status
what if I just change the framework-res.apk and systemui.apk for example,WP7 ROM v2.0 by jinavs to cyanogenmod 7.2 but in such a way so then would not work
i just want keep cyanogenmod and put style from WP7 ROM v2.0 by jinavs i want have cyanogenmod and windows phone 7 style or system ui

I followed your posts here in fact you just want your own ROM but this is not as easy as you think you never find a complete-tutor "how to make a custom ROM" just because this is subject for a book and involves developer-level abilities (just look at that ROM -is made by a development team) keep things as simple as possible an find a ROM that meet your appropriate requirements you should be glad you have Cyanogenmod on your phone because not all people have this chance !
to get an answer to your question why not to post it on that ROM thread if you want answer put the right question in the right place
at least but not the last thing :I appreciate efforts to change/improve things

Hi mates!
I made a theme for MIUI ROM in .mtz.
I'd like to create an selfextracting apk to post it in the APPmarket.
I think it'll be quite easy, 'cause it will only copy the themefile in the correct folder, or deleting it when uninstalling.
How shall I create it?
I found lot of guide, which suggest to use AppInventor, ApkManager, Eclipse and other stuffs...but I'm totally blind at the moment
push once, i have this question too
How to make miui theme ?
Hey guy, how are you ?
I am sorry to disturb you.
but i am looking for the thread of how to make miui theme .mtz files
I couldn't find any of it, until found your thread here.
I would like to know if you could please give me a link or tell me step by step .. how to make miui theme.
or...my need is i want to change miui dialer to my own designed. i want a glass style, so i want to make it and put it to my miui rom, or miui theme.
Could you please tell me the step to make miui dialer or miui theme ?
Thanks in advance...
I'm thinking about making some themes for my SGT2 7 and would appreciate some helpful advice from some Devs/theme makers on the subject..
I'm just going to make a list of some questions and hopefully someone can answer them.
1 - Any custom theme making apps for SGT2 7 ?
I have some experience in making some Windows 7 VS and have used things like THIS and THIS . Any Windows 7 (x64) software /android apps available for SGT2 7 ?
2 - 9.PNG's
Is it possible just to change some 9.png's or do i have to go all the way and change HEX as well ? Initially i want to make a simple theme just to ease myself into the whole experience. Once I'm more confident with what I'm doing i will experiment more and more.
3 - Status Bar
On every ROM that i have flashed the "status bar" is always black. Is that "hard coded / a permanent fixture" into the ROM or can it be changed ? if so is it HEX or 9.PNG ?
4 - Custom sounds
Can they be added to a theme ?
5 - Installation
What ROM do i need to be running to make a theme ? For example I'm running THIS . Is that at all possible or will i have to use a custom ROM such as CM9
6 - System Icons
Can they be changed / added to a theme or is that a different beast entirely ?
7 - Root
I guess you'd have to have root on your device to apply a theme ? Hey im a "lock n load" kinda guy , but to our friends who don't want root , will they be able to apply my theme ?
Thanks
Bump (Sorry mods) :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
Out of the gate I want to say that you guys are incredible for setting up a forum like this. I know you'll get lots of people who will just hop on here and ask some oft-answered question without ever taking the time to do a simple google search, but for those who don't abuse the forum I think it will be a real asset. Anyway, I have a Verizon Stratosphere II, a phone that as far as I can has received no development whatsoever outside of the followers of our devices small xda forum. It is an hdpi device that runs 4.1.2 touchwiz. If we want to mod or theme we have to sort of extrapolate procedures by readings tutorials for other devices. While this is a good way to learn, sometimes there are mountains we can't overcome without some help.
About two months I began trying to follow BOOTMGR's tutorial for upgrading the status bar to the one from 4.2.2. I have run into problem after problem from the beginning and have gotten most of them solved but I've been spinning my wheels for about 3 weeks now. I know that in order to edit the smali files in systemui I need to deodex it. Do I also need to odex the rest of the rom? I have done many mods to SystemUI before using apktool but never to smali files. I would think the proper order to do things would be something like:
1. deodex SystemUI
2. decompile SystemUI
3. perform mod from op
4. recompile SystemUI
5. reodex SystemUI
However, I've tried that and everything else I can think without success. Often it even successfully recompiles but then fcs when pushed back. I am 100% sure that my phone and the galaxy II on which the tutorial is based are similar enough this to be feasible, I just can't quite get there.
Thanks again for all you do guys!
Hi,
Try to see this thread => Samsung Galaxy S II I9100 > Galaxy S II Themes and Apps > [MOD][GUIDE][JB 4.1.2] AOSP Style Status Bar on Samsung ROMs
- [GUIDE]How to add customizable 14 statusbar toggle buttons for samsung ROM
and the answer from my colleague @Perseus71
You might want to pose the query in Android Software and Hacking General [Developers Only] where one of the other Developers might be able to help you with your issues in detail.
What I do believe, is that you need rest of the other System APKs particularly framework-res. You might be better served using [KITCHEN] ArchiKitchen - Android Kitchen (WIP) [Linux].
There are also a whole set of Tutorials by @Ticklefish . Those will help as well. He also has his own Theming tool Tickle My Android.

Dear Fellows,
I'm new to CM and its just my second post, I'm kinda interested in making/modifying themes on android phones. I have some queries regarding this..
1. do i need to create a new project from scratch and build my own apk or
2. do i just decompress other's theme apk and change it way i like (is that legal or acc to rule of android, CM forums etc )
3. Can i sale themes on play store using second method ( i know they worked but if its possible, i wont do if its not or illigal)
thanx for your reply in advance
1. There are plenty guides on the Android Theme section. I have written up a updated guide to create themes from scratch with extra info on how to theme your interface. There are some that show you how to theme using pre-made apks
2. Yes you can as long it is not a paid theme. A free one then its fine, you just have to ask the original themer for permission. So they know you're using his/hers theme as a base.
3. Yes you can if you have permission
Hello everyone I'm new on XDA please don't judge me bad but with the forum's restriction I can't answer any thread until I get 10 or more points (don't know how get them if I can't answer or publish anything with links)
My issues is weird i've followed every threads that talk about how to create themes I've made all pngs files and xml as well but when I compile it with android studio and I try to install it fails I don't know why.
I've tried also to take an already compiled apk of some themes and tried to mix them fixed xml as well and recompiled with apktool then I've uninstalled official version of the theme and tried to install modified apk but it didn't work anyway I try..
Hope that u can understand I'm Italian and a quite good knowledge of English and android world.
Thank you (hope also to get 10 points to be unrestricted user)
