Now the evo 4g gets gb on 6/6 officially.
What's really the hold up with this power house of a phone not getting its love? Am I wrong to feel it should have had it out of the box...the Droid got ota gb this past week...as we sit waiting. I'm disappointed.

I personally think its t-mobile... they're horrible about getting updates out for ANY of their phones...
the o2x i believe already has a release for UK
The o2 was released prior to this phone. Be patient. With all the issues t-mobile and LG are probably making sure it works right this time. I have a feeling the stock shortage was an excuse to prep for gingerbread release.

Right, the Vibrant lagged way behind the other US Galaxy S phones on the 2.2 update... oh wait...
you guys do realize all the phones that are getting GB have been out for a while right? It's not even summer yet, so TMO still hasn't past their said deadline. chill out.

The evo 4g. The one that's been out for 10 months or so???? Yeah were so far behind. I mean we've had our phones for almost two!!! This is such BS...I'm bringing mine back for an evo......seriously though the GB leaks are more than functional and if your not flashing than shame on you. You'll be the same person that waits for the official 2.3 to drop and then post a complaint on everything that doesn't function right. This phone just came out give it some time. Unfortunately unless you have a nexus phone you're always going to be waiting on the latest and greatest because you're at the mercy of your carrier. I'm still confused as to why google went with samsung and a similar speced phone with the S when dual core tech was available and seems to be the norm for most top end google phones....damn you fragmentation!

You may be disappointed when it does come out.
I was using EB GB leak based ROM with and without OC kernel. Other then a different look and feel, not much of an upgrade in the update. the only performance improvements were result of EB tweaks and the kernels- not GB 2.3. Am back on 2.2.2 with OC UV kernel, as it has original camera and is pretty stable.
Android 2.4 on the other hand would be a major upgrade, as it is optimized for duel core - 2.3 is not. It might be out on other devices this month - but we would be lucky to see it on the G2X this year (unless the Dev's port it over).
At least the OTA should still have the basic stock apps - like the HD camera - which the GB leak did not. Then the Dev's can work directly off of a G2X specific ROM. But you will not see any significant improvements with 2.3 by itself.
If you are rooted, you could get a GB them, flash it, and pretend.

Other little things as well.
Biggest thing?
IT WILL FIX THE REBOOTS AND WIFI. Officially.
So I don't think he or anyone else is going to be disappointed with that.

I bet if u look back a few months u can find the same exact post but it will say something like froyo isn't to big an upgrade its gingerbread we really want....lol. no one is ever happy. Android 2.3.4 is pretty nice in my opinion. I could care less about 2.4 and what its potentially going to bring to the table. Its android and it beats any other OS out ther no matter what revision

i say op you go to you local tmobile store and demand the rep behind the counter place 2.4 aka icecream on your phone don't settle for gb if they say no chunk the phone at him/her and turn over a few display stations on your way out. the call up tmobile's customer service and tell them that their store rep refused to place 2.4 on your phone and you want their job or you will throw a bf and write the president of the company.

The GB leak was just that, an unfinished leak that still needed work. The official update will most likely be a lot better.

I am thinking about trading my Mytouch4g for a G2x.....i also have a dell streak 5
In everyone's opinion, which is the better phone? I know the G2x's specs are ridiculous compared to the other 2, but I have heard of many issues with the G2x.
This G2x is unlocked and rooted running 2.3.3. So I imagine that most of the bad bugs are worked out already.
So basically, I am wondering about other people's input on this trade. Should I go from the Mytouch4g to the G2x? Or should I just stick with my Dell Streak 5?
I made this switch. But I was forced to cause my MT4G died after I dropped it in water. Yes G2x is faster and has a bigger screen but in terms of development I think MT4G being an HTC is a better phone.
CM7 worked a lot better on it than G2x although G2x isn't that bad. It is still stuck on 2.6.32 kernel though, while the MT4G kernel is up to .35 and easily devvable.
Spec-wise, they are about the same. Shouldn't be much of a difference except for the keyboard.

so is it a good trade?
this guy said he had one that had problems and sent it back...this is the new replacement and it was preloaded with 2.3.3.
What are the thoughts on this? Is it going to be a better idea to root it and install a custom ROM? Are the problems more prevelant on the stock ROMs?
He said it has been fine since he got a new one. But that it had many problems before when he had one with 2.2.2. I just dont want to trade for some buggy non-functional phone!
Has anyone had a lot of problems with their G2x since rooting or stock upgrading to 2.3.3?

I got a MT4G and my wife got the G2x. After playing with her phone for half a day, I went back to the store and traded my MT4G in. I love the G2x.
Very true about development. If you are flash happy and want to change ROMs often...stick with the MT4G.
I'm in the same boat as the op, and I'm really tempted to get a g2x, as I'm a bit of a tech addict and can't wait for the gs2. On the other hand, the mt4g isn't terrible. It's stable, and development wise a lot better than the g2x. It runs pretty much 99% of what I want it to run very well.
The development is the only thing keeping me from jumping right now.

I am getting antsy to get a new phone to replace my MT4G, but I do not want to spend a ton like I would on a sensation or the Galaxy 2. I was thinking an older dual core might be a good start.
I like to tinker, but not overly flash happy. Just want stability and decent battery life, and the typical things like good signal reception and call quality.
Why do people always bring up GSII? I doubt you'll notice any differences in real world performance... Just get a G2x. Development isn't that bad... But if you MUST HAVE Sense, stick with the MT4G.
The GSII is a great phone... If it is anything like the first one then it will be even better with cyanogen or any custom ROM, same with the sensation. I don't use Sense often, but it isn't that bad, especially the newer versions.
The biggest difference will be battery life. From what I am hearing, the new SOCs are much easier on the battery, so all things being equal, the sensation or GSII will have much better battery life even with higher use cases.
That is why the choice is more difficult. Besides... us tinkers (aka the rooting community) will never be satisfied long with the same phone. After about a year, it is time to look into something new. Sometimes we can't afford the latest and greatest so we look for the best bang for our buck we can.
As to a new g2x owner (3 weeks) I love this phone, bought it brand new from the store and it works flawlessly, I flashed weapons GB build and using fauxes over clocked kernel.
In other words, i'm in love with it.

G2x is soooo much better. My younger brother has a Galaxy S 4G, and it's a nice phone and all, but there is literally no development going on for it anymore. No Vanilla, MIUI, or ICS. G2x is wayyy faster although I really like the Galaxy S 4G's Camera.

I actually just got my Samsung Galaxy S 4g replaced from Tmobile with the G2X. I used the SGS4G for awhile.
I don't regret it one bit, this phone is a beast in comparison. I'm not even using ICS yet, and I'm so happy with my new device. Significant upgrade in my opinion, and as others have said ROM development is much more active.
The devs are trying to work out ICS, but nothing close to even "kind of" functional.
IMO the screen was a little better and voodoo sound is cool, but a majority of the ROMs are customized versions of a stable base. MIUI is also being worked on, however the significant gains in just about every other area out shine 2 perks. Can't comment on battery life yet, my G2X has "new toy syndrome" at the moment.
Bottom line, stuck my SGS4G in the box and sent it back this morning.

FP5 was just the fix for the embarrassing crap software they were running on it before. Just run Tweaked 3.0 and keep it til you can get something better.

This.
The Charge has always been a good phone, the problem is they gave the phones before and after it better hardware/software. Even the Thunderbolt which was released before the Charge is supposed to get some ICS love(official) and has ROMs for ICS. The Charge has always been over looked and under appreciated. If it had been given proper hardware and a lil lovin' it would be right below the Nexus. At this point it is ridiculous that Samsung won't just give up the RIL so that some more can be done to try and bring the Charge back from the dead. All I gotta say is thank god Dwitherell stuck it out and made the Charge more of what it should have been.
I have a question, if this is a slightly refreshed Nexus S, and the Nexus S can run both ICS and JB, then why can't this phone? From a hardware perspective, I know Samsung obviously doesn't want to spend the time and money to create ICS for their bastard child phone.

It's not about phone capabilities, really. It's about 2 things. First, this is a limited user base device. Second, this is a skinned device, and there's not enough room in the system partition for the skinned version of ICS or JB to run.
AOSP ICS and JB do run, and from what little I messed with CM9 on the Charge, it ran quite nicely. There's no mobile data with it though, because the RIL has proven to be tough to crack, but as far as hardware capabilities, it can run stock...just not the TouchWiz skinned versions.

No worries. ICS is no JB that's for sure, and truth be told ALL the awesome options available to the Blaze should be tried out! That's the great thing about having such options - you can start choosing based on preferences as opposed to basic functionality. I'm a smali hack at best - I would consider the other tinkerers for the Blaze to be far more qualified of a "developer" title than I really - so folks should really make sure to test the various waters as you never know what you might be missing!

Well single core to dual core, NFC, slightly larger screen, 4g 42mbps, larger capacity battery, and adreno 220 are things that I would consider better. At my dad's house near Minneapolis I can pull 20+mpbs on 4g...
But at the end of the day, you still are running android and that's not going to change much... and if you liked sense than you will likely not like TW. No guarantee that you also wouldn't like aosp either (my wife doesn't - she prefers sense). My wife has a sensation 4g and I see a major difference between her phone and my blaze. I prefer the blaze, because of those features listed (and access to the sd card without having to dissemble the phone to get to it) and I prefer TW (using TW5 launcher) to any sense rom. Sense just seems bloated to me and the Blaze just seems to be more responsive.
But hey, they're just phones and everyone is entitled to their own opinions and can like whatever they choose to like
