This might be a kind of noob-ish request, but I'm trying to avoid rooting (I know, I know) and wondered if there was a way to port over the dialer-contacts in APK form from 2.3.
I would appreciate any help/guidance.
Did anything change in the dialer between Froyo and Gingerbread?
Took these off my Nexus S. Not sure if they'll work but here you go!

Be careful. Make a backup of the original apks first (or a full nandroid backup) . if they don't work, they're likely to cause the system to crash-loop (continuous FCs). Happened too me when trying a moded phone.apk before.
Aren't the dialers the same, I didn't notice any differences apart from the look, from froyo and now on gingerbread

Thanks for the fast response, but I'm getting a parse error trying to install the APKs.
To everyone else: I'm mostly trying to get something more like AOSP over the stock HTC stuff, and most of what I've found on here is stuff designed to flash on top of ROMs for rooted phones.
Hello,
I was trying to replace the touchwiz mms application with an AOSP mms. Something went wrong and of course I forgot to back up my original mms.apk. I have tried to install AOSP mms.apk's off the forum but I can not get any of them to work. I am putting them in the correct directory and the permission are rw-r-r but still whenever I click the messaging icon the phone just vibrates once and then force closes. Could someone please post preferably the AOSP mms.apk that will work on the GS4G or if not that one just the stock mms.apk that came with the GS4G. Also, any tips on how to get it to work would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks as always!
What firmware version are you running? And are you running the Odexed or DeOdexed version?
Here's stock samsung KC1 deodexed version if thats what you need.
I am running stock, rooted kd1. I should just be able to drop the.apk in the app directory, right?

I just dropped this one in and it works, thanks a ton! Now that I have mms back, does anyone know of an AOSP mms.apk that works with this build?

that's weird... i have the 3 of them working on my HD, I really don't have any idea of what could be the problem.. sorry
Many AOSP based ROMs aren't compatible with blur based apps. I think it has something to do with the libs.
saw this gonna give it a try

does anyone know if I flash an update to viper (1.7.1 to 1.8.0) if it reflashes the camera app? There's no way to know which camera I"m using but I like Jishnu's better haha

i would imagine that when you re flash or update to a new version that it would put the stock camera back on there. how do you like the camera by the way?
Btw, fastest way to know if Jishnu's camera is installed is to switch to night mode and see if you can toggle the flash. Jishnu's can while stock cannot.
Viper updates are usually pretty small and do not update the entire rom framework so I'd have to open it to find out but cntryby429 has an easier solution haha
Any way I can get the stock camera software after installing a custom ROM?
edit: It's in the damn app store
