Hi Guys
I've got a 604 UK Xoom Wifi with Honeycomb 3.2 running. I've not rooted it or flashed it.
I'm looking for the easiest way to make it a GED that will receive OTA updates to ICS and then Jellybean when it comes out. I've looked through numerous threads and am really confused!
Any recommendations are much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Im sure someone will come by and point to a guide on XDA but in the interim I did this on my UK Wifi only Xoom to get to GED (and thus ICS)
http://www.xoomforums.com/forum/motorola-xoom-hacking-guides/6591-how-uk-wifi-us-ged.html
Took all of 30 mins max to complete.
I've thanked you, thanks.
Did you get ICS automatically, or did you need to check for the updates?
Also, what version of Windows/Linux are you running?

Sorry meant to mention I have a 3G Xoom. Does that update work for 3G or only WiFi Xooms?

Quoted from posted thread:
IMPORTANT NOTE: This update is for the US Xoom Wi-Fi MZ604 with Android 3.1 ONLY!!! As of v05 of this update, the update script performs NO CHECKS of files before flashing rooted stock 3.2 system and boot images. This means it won't stop you from flashing on a Xoom 3G; it will just flash and you're left with the mess, if any. Please proceed only if you're tech-savvy with Android and the Xoom, ready to restore to stock 3.1 in case of issues, and good at troubleshooting. Please provide feedback and corrections, and I'll update the post as quickly as I can. Thanks!

Why not just flash one of the Tiamat 3.2 Roms? Easy way to get the best of all possible worlds, since you're already rooted.
I'm sick of being treated like dirt by Motorola, and will never buy anything from them again.
But for now I'm stuck with my Xoom Wi-Fi, unable to upgrade to ICS because Motorola doesn't give a stuff!
Is there a way to change my region settings from Australia to US?
I'm guessing if the update thought I had a US Xoom it would update it for me.
Sorry to hear that man. Not sure about changing regions, just root it and Install the latest ICS 4.0.4 Custom ROM.

I'm in the UK and get treated the same as you.. So just unlock your xoom and flash the USA rom.. Its dead simple... There are lots of tutorials on the web with all the links to the required files..

Are you kidding? Motorola alone chose to release ICS in the US only, it has nothing to do with any country.
Thanks to the rest of you, looking into it.
Hmm no google has control of the USA wifi xooms that's there test baby. Why do u think there are tweeks like SD card on forign motorola xooms and not the USA xooms? Motorola just sends out the os for google on the USA xooms.

Wrong. The US WiFi only is a Google Experience Device (GED) and GOOGLE handles updates for it, NOT Motorola.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Updates come from Motorola, who have issued release dates for foreign owned Xooms.

If you haven't found this yet: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1166106
You'll need to register (free) as a Motorola dev to download the US Honeycomb image from their site, or just download it from somewhere else. Then once it's flashed, your device will update itself via the official OTAs all the way to ICS 4.0.4.

Simplest and fairly fool-proof instruction. I used this to change my region to US. Got pushed to ICS by doing the steps listed above and then checking for updates. Worked GREAT!
Just GEDify my brother version to US and very easy using the guide
although find some differences. but that make it easier
Hello,
I am beginning to wonder if I have the right version of the Play store on my Xoom.
I am thinking I have an older version/mobile version because the font is very large, in fact, it's an eyesore.
Here is a photo of the Play store once I open it:
http://i.imgur.com/UFRXs.jpg
And here is when I search for an app:
http://i.imgur.com/3pMBc.jpg
Looking at that photo, it doesn't look too big, but when you hold the tablet in front of you, it looks massive!
http://i.imgur.com/MwoK9.jpg
This is still quite large, but much better looking.
Also, another question, shouldn't the beta Chrome browser not be there? I don't see it.
I did a factory reset a few days ago, and when I opened play (if I recall correctly) it said it was updating to a new version, but said there was an error.
(I have not rooted my Xoom (yet ) so I cannot take screenshots)
So, is this the right version, and if not, how can I update?
Thanks! :good:
The latest version of it is 3.5.19

Ok, thanks. I'll root it later today maybe, now that I got the SD card out.
I should be able to get an ICS ROM then, right?
EDIT: Wait, I just remembered something.. Mine is the international (if that's what you call it) version, as it has no Verizon branding on it, and I have no contract either. Will I get an OTA ICS update? When did it come out for the rest of you?

Yes. Chrome is for ics. To get it, you need to be rooted. With market enabler, select the american t mobile market and search for it. It is there as beta version.
To root, which xoom type is it? Mz60x?
For the best rom ever released for xooms, it is from team eos.

I was told the same three times now, but still no sign on my Xoom.
Here is an excerpt from the email from them, the names have been changed to protect the innocent lol:
Dear ,
Thank you for contacting Motorola.
The ICS for XOOM has begun to rollout in the UK. As a rollout is done in stages, not all units will recieve the update at the same time. Please ensure that you are connected to a strong wifi connection and then manually check for updates by going to Settings>About tablet>Software updates.
We fully understand the inconveniance caused by this delay but believe you will enjoy all the new features ICS will bring.
For any further assistance or information please do not hesitate to contact us again, quoting your Customer Reference number.
Thank you for allowing us to be of service to you.
Kind regards,
Motorola Mobility UK Ltd.

Hi all,
I can confirm it has started rolling out as I got the update available notice yesterday 4/8/12 on my Xoom 32gb WIfI +3G, it is quite a big download and install as it takes quite a while but my Xoom is now running fast and smooth on ICS and its all good. Hope you others get your update soon, now we just need to wait and see if we get JB.
Marc
It has been on the roll for sometime!
and If
My Xoom had NOT been rooted
I would have had it today
I could bark at a tree!
motorola - FAIL-ED
now I have to wait again, i guess?
Samsungs s3 - rooted - updated - YESSSSSSSSSS
I can confirm that i have updated my UK MZ604 with official ICS.. So i think everyone should get the notification
Got mine today but it hangs on recovery screen when installing, any clues on how to fix this? Mine is rooted and b/l unlocked, wifi only XOOM.
i think that is why its stuck on recovery you must unroot it and lock the bootloader..

OK, so I finally flashed a custom rom. I was happy for the beginning of it. Then after using the browser for a while I noticed that sometimes when I try to go back to a page, it won't go back. It will reload the current page which is quite annoying. Now what I really wanted to ask is whether there is a Stock Jelly Bean rom with root available for the UK MZ604 Wifi only model? I'm guessing that in the Stock Jelly Bean there shouldn't be any minor bugs at all, right?
Any help at all would be appreciated.

which rom did u flash? on eos 3.0 i dont have this problem
Hey.
EOS V3 stable release wasn't good on my UK wifi only Xoom, however V2 EOS is great so I went back to it.
I found web based videos were slowing down and jerky, also some web pages loaded greyed out almost which was annoying.
