[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 i727 ICS Root - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I've recently upgraded to ICS, and am now trying to root my newly upgraded SGS2 phone. I am stuck trying to enter the Recovery Mode. I've searched online for guides on how to root, and many individuals instruct to hold the Volume Up + Volume Down + Power button, then when the SAMSUNG logo appears, let go of the Power Button. The recovery mode menu does not appear. Can anyone help?

Have you entered download mode and flashed the custom recovery through Odin? All this info can easily be found in the all in one guide that is stickied at the top.
More info is needed. How did you upgrade? Was it a one click method?
Edit for link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1427268
Here is your link for the instructional thread. Please read this carefully. Everything you need will be on the first page. Any reason why you wish to root? Only reason I ask is because you are a new user.

Regardless of which recovery you have it has to come up.
Turn the phone off, now hold all three vol up/down and power once phone vibrates let go off power, don't wait for the logo

wut?
are you running this on a captivate or a different model?
What happens if you hold down volume up, down, and power? Can you get to a screen with a yellow exclamation point? Or just a frozen AT&T logo? Details are invaluable. In particular, what phone is it?

only show AT&T logo and then turn off and on the same logo many times. The command to put in download mode no work any more
the phone is Galaxy S i9000
It says here the download mode for the Galaxy S is volume down + home + power
http://android.modaco.com/content/s...o-com/311349/flash-now-your-samsung-galaxy-s/
Did you try that? Also, try volume up instead of down, since I think I read the Galaxy S and Captivates may have reversed up and down buttons.
You'd probably do better off posting in the Galaxy S subforum however, or on Modaco, since this subforum is mostly full of people who have never even seen a Galaxy S.
OHOHOH this happened to me first download the samsung new pc studio for drivers and install then open odin(first) and plug phone in after that hold power button and volume up and down the screen should flash once then keep holding it should flash once again then let go of power and you should be into download mode (this happened to me before and i fixed it like this)

I make this short video of the problem

Samsung Captivate
Did you try and flash a Samsung Captivate ROM on a Galaxy S i9000? From looking at your device it definitely not a Samsung Captivate. I would re-flash a i9000 ROM and it should fix your problem.
Turn off your phone. Hold down the Volume down button and then press the power button. The phone should be in download mode.
Download this firmware from here. http://www.multiupload.com/2TNDO4LQYW
This should fix your problem.
OP: Did you try the suggestion about releasing the power button when the screen goes black? On my captivate, I would hold power + vol up + vol down and it'd show a logo on the screen, then the screen would go black, and I'd let go of the power button while holding the volume buttons. Then I'd get to download mode. I'm thinking you could do something similar, maybe vol up + power + home and let go of power when the screen goes black? Or try vol down + power + home. Play around with different combinations.
trust me my method works sadly i cant make a vid (sent my captivate back) for another captivate

I know your method works, but the OP has a Galaxy S, not a Captivate. Buttons might work differently at the low level, especially if it's been flashed with the Captivate button mappings.
I try so many combinatios and no luck no can intro in download mode
this situation is killing me any other ideas
thanks
Afraid not...to my knowledge you're the only person who's flash a non-Galaxy S rom on a Galaxy S phone.
I don't know anything about the Samsung warranty, but could one assume that since they offer source code, roms, and flashing tools, they would cover problems related to flashing? Somehow I doubt it, but it'd sure be nice...

Maybe try the Galaxy S forums? Here or Modaco.
any one find a fix to this ?
When I had this problem on my Captivate heres what fixed it for me.
Pulled the battery to make sure it's off. Put the battery back in, hold both the up & down buttons, and then plug in the USB cable.
This puts it into download mode so you need to have the correct firmware ready to go.
Mike
Try "adb reboot download" , over and over again while it boots or when it's in recovery mode.
Maybe you can get through.

[Completed] Dead Android (Nexus 4)

So I tried to get stock Android back to my phone (I had cyanogenmod) and when following the instructions of a guide I found, they said there was a possibility of getting into a boot loop, which indeed happened. To solve this I had to go into Recovery Mode and the logo of DEAD ANDROID would appear, and so it did. The problem comes when I push the power button and both volume buttons to get into the menu of recovery mode. It doesn't come up, the phone just shuts down.
I don't know how to solve this or if it even has a solution... could someone please help me
Ps: yes, I'm a complete noob :good:
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. To get into recovery when you see the dead Android press and hold the power button and then press and release the vol down button. It can be a little tricky, especially the timing of the press and release of the vol down button.

[Completed] Samsung Galaxy A3 vibrate loop cant access recovery

Hello, I think I have bricked my phone.
It is a Samsung Galaxy A3 SM-A300M
I used the TWRP Manager app and I think I loaded the wrong recovery image for my phone.
The app said it installed the recovery succesfully then asked to reboot into recovery. I accepted and the phone rebooted but never entered recovery, it just vibrates every 2 seconds.
Now it wont show anything on the screen, just vibrates every 2 seconds
I've tried the following with no success:
1) holding volume up + power + home
2) holding volume down + power + home
3) holding volume up + power
4) holding volume down + power
5) holding power button for more than 2 minutes
In every case it just keeps vibrating
Please consider that the Samsung Galaxy A3 is a unibody model, so I can't take out the battery.
What would you say are my options?
Thanks in advance!!
P.S.: I would post this on the Samsung A series sub forum, but since I'm a new user can only post here.

Hi,
Thank you for using XDA assist
It looks like there is no dedicated forum for your device. However there is a general forum for android here http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help where you can try to ask to get the expert's help
Good luck

Bricked S7! Stuck on logo, please help

Hi All,
I recently updated my phone's BL and CP using Odin since I wanted to update my version of Superman rom to the latest. I think I might have done it in the wrong order though? (flashed bootloader before attempting to update firmware)
My phone is now stuck on the Samsung logo with the "Recovery is not seaandroid enforcing" at the top. I can get it to restart by holding the Vol Down + Power button but can't get it into Recovery / Download Mode it just keeps rebooting into the samsung logo!! I tried a quick Vol Down + Power followed by Vol Down + Power + Home but it doesn't work and keeps going back to the samsung logo
Is there any other way I can get this to boot into download mode so that I can flash an older version of the bootloader using odin?

Press (Vol up + Vol down + Power button) and when screen goes off quickly press (Vol down + Home button + Power button). Repeat the process until you see the green screen! It worked for me.

One hour later I got this damn thing into Download Mode!! Phew...
I just kept the Vol Down + Power + Home buttons pressed while it kept rebooting itself (I was letting go of the buttons and pressing them again when I saw the screen turn off which wasn't working)
Not sure why the latest BL bricked my phone?! I've flashed one version before and it's now working again.

If you are using PH* bootloader and trying to root the system, you should only use TWRP 3.0.2.3 and best choice would be SuperSU 2.76.. Glad to hear it booted up at last!
So far I've yet to see someone truly brick an S7 since you'd need to replace the bootloader and it wont even flash a new bootloader until it's fully transfered and verified. So no worries there should always be a way out.
you can always go back to stock via Smartswitch and Rescue option.... all you need is your modelnumber and S/N.....
Phew, just went through the same problem, thanks a lot for help, guys!

GT-P5110 unable to reboot directly to recovery after twrp installation

full stock, unrooted, GT-P5110
... connect to odin (3.12 PC)-> uncheck auto reboot -> install twrp -> PASS -> unplug cable from usb
but all I seem to be able to do is reboot into system.
I :-
hold power button for 1 sec, 2 secs, 3 sec.... trying to just turn it off (instead of reboot)
hold vol down + power button,
hold power button + tap volume down,
just hold vol down,
tap power button (does nothing), only long press restarts.
hold power button till screen goes black and then hold vol down + tap pwr button
hold power button till screen goes black and then hold vol down + hold pwr button
hold power button till screen goes black and then hold vol down on its own
search forum
pull hair out
type this
each time reinstalling twrp
any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
thanks
To reboot to recovery you need to hold volume UP + power.

well that's strange, as, on my device, from off:
Volume UP + power takes me to download mode... I have done this several times and it asks me to confirm by then pressing down.
AND, from off
Volume DOWN + power takes me to recovery.
and doing a search, via google and xda all agree with me.
.. but thanks
I never said I couldn't get into recovery... I cannot get from odin into recovery without it first rebooting and therefore wiping my flash.
edit: So I tried it anyway, and got back into download mode, which in a way is kinda good news as, my logic, if I can get back into download mode from a reboot then I should be able to get into recovery from a reboot.
Same same but slightly different

I am having the exact same problems and tried exactly the same things. I am just not able to install twrp because of this. ( I read that it overwrites the recovery with the stock one when you are not going straight into recovery mode after installation) I am stuck at the “Samsung Galaxy note 10.1” screen if try to go straight into recovery.
What is strange though is that with my device: VOLDown (towards the power button) + Power button takes me to download mode and the other combination supposedly to the recovery mode.
This is so frustrating. Done this so many times with other devices but this one just does not give up… I just want to get rid of all bloatware and other crap…..

I've given up, for now, tried every combination I could think... I have a sneaky feeling it must be rooted first. It is the only thing I haven't tried doing.

I am currently doing just that! Using the files from autoroot . chainfire . eu (can not post links yet haha) . I will let you know how it went!
UPDATE:
It worked! I rooted my device first. After that I flashed my recovery via the TWRP app. I also must say that my device is the GT-N8010 (p4notewifixx). I got confused of all the different models. Still I think it will work with your model aswell! Good luck!
