value pack and ics .. - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

In the time Samsung got a lousy value pack working on the phone Huawei released a fully ICS rom for their IDEOS X5 which is similar to our phone. Samsung wants you to buy an SIII to get ICS. It's absurd.

Suggestions for a new phone...Please read

hello all..
I have a contract upgrade due next month and i am looking to get my first android phone..
am currently with orange and they have a nice selection of phones to choose from..
My options are
1. Xperia X10
2. Samsung Galaxy S
3. HTC Desire
I already have a sound knowledge of which phone does wat and their specs but i need a first hand opionion from the actual people who use it themselve.
The main thing i am looking in a phone is that it shud last me the next 18 months i know its a bit optimistic but i done want to buy a phone dat is outdated in next 8months or so
secondly i need a phone with good multimedia capabilities e.g watching movies both on youtube and through sdcard...listening to music...playing latest top of the line 3d games on high fps...browsing internet/checking emails and taking the odd picture/movie
Now i know all of the above mentioned phone do these but the question is which phone does is better than other ?
I have read that each phone has got its pros and cons for e.g samsung is a bit laggy in certain places and for me desire isnt the best looking phone out there when compared to xperia and samsung and list is even longer with xperia x10 including no MT and outdated OS (dun wanna wait till the new OS and still its not guarenteed if they gonna fix all da issues)
MT for some of you might be overrated but for me its a must have feature as more n more apps/games will b utilizing it in coming days also i have heard dat samsung MT is much more responsive then HTC what is your opinion about it?
software updates/customer care is another issue me as i dont wanna be hanged aound waiting for an year just to get an update which is already 8 months old..
I will also be looking to root my phone is the future as i have done it with my htc touch hd in the past..so in this respect which phone is more safe/better bet?
please feel free to post ur comments...
In the end you need to look @ two out of the 3 phones you listed, I would remove Xperia X10 from your final selection just because it's the only on on your list that is currently running 1.6. now it's totally up to you if you like the Touch wiz on the Samsung Galaxy S or the Award winning HTC sense on the HTC Desire. Also the desire looks to be getting Android 2.2 before the Galaxy S.
My personal choice would def.ly be the Desire, good luck....

[Q] vanilla Gingerbread on galaxy S II

Hello,
I really like the new Samsung Galaxy S II and i want to buy it as soon as it comes out. The only problem is Touchwiz 4.0.
Is there a way to reset the phone so that i can install a good old Vanilla Gingerbread (like on the Nexus S)? I know the device is not on the market yet, but I'm sure people had this question with the first galaxy S, so I'm guessing it should be the same situation.
Thanks,
S.
Wait for the devs to release a rom for it. Could take a while!

Canada - ICS "should be" available today

http://mobilesyrup.com/2012/04/30/s...de-will-be-available-today-on-select-devices/
Good news for some Canadian Samsung Galaxy owners today. I just received an email that Samsung and respective carriers will start to push out the long awaited upgrade to Android OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich today. Samsung stated that “the upgrade will be available today on select devices in Canada and will continue rolling out to devices and carriers throughout the quarter.” There’s no word on which carriers or devices will be getting ICS today, just a confirmed list of devices, including various smartphone and tablets. We’ve reached out to Samsung for a bit more clarity, but they do note that “The availability and scheduling of the software upgrade and specific models upgradable to Android 4.0 will vary by market and wireless carriers’ requirements. For carrier specific details, please visit your nearest carrier retailer.”
Here’s the complete list of devices that will be graced with Android OS 4.0:
- GALAXY S II
- GALAXY S II LTE
- GALAXY S II LTE HD
- GALAXY S II X
- GALAXY Note
- GALAXY Tab 7.0
- GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus
- GALAXY Tab 8.9
- GALAXY Tab 10.1

That is a very odd statement for alleged updated that are landing "today" with no details on which devices are being updated "today".
We would have at least expect them to say which devices are starting the roll out today and which are "coming soon".
Is the P6200 being sold in Canada or is it the Wifi P6210?
I think its just the 6210.
the best good news!
well, at least we are getting some "roll".. though the "soon" is still there, it's stil a much better news than before.
What doesn't sit well with me though is that it has Galaxy Tab 7.0 in the list. I thought the regular 7.0 wasn't getting the update or am I terribly mistaken?
Update: We’ve heard back from Samsung and it looks like the rollout will start later this week: “The ICS update will be available this week and will continue rolling out to devices and carriers throughout the quarter.”

I agree. It was always pretty clear that the original Tab's hardware would keep it out of the running for an official upgrade to ICS (or so said Samsung). Something seems not quite right here.
By the way, at my local Best Buy, as of last weekend, all the Samsung tablets are on clearance.
But the update is rolling out:

Ah that is a bit more definitive that something is happening. Guess that is good news in general though.
No updates available as yet.
My build is Canadian: P6210XXLb2
If I can't update, which stock ROM do you guys suggest I install before trying update? Screenshot of "about device" attached. Thx.

That's probably the 7.7. The GTab 7.0 was never on any of the lists for upgrade I've seen.
Not to ruin the party, but they will probably start with updating the Galaxy S II (like they did in Europe) and then slowly, through the end of quarter add additional devices.
If you read the press release closely that's what it probably means.
Don't expect to see an update before the European unlocked (of Hong Kong) version get it.

-galaxy TAB 7 (P1000 2010 VERSION) = ICS will not released (maybe a ginger value pack)
-galaxy TAB 7.7 (P6800) = ICS will be released (probably te last on the list...)
Where are the custom ROMS?????
I like ANDROID stock ROMS like Gingerbread, Honeycomb and ICS , but how about the custom roms for this device?? I do not know what happen to the developers of the devices to build a nice one. I have installed at least 20 different custom ROMS for my SAMSUNG GALAXY ACE smarthphone, but I only found a custom Rom for the galaxy tab plus that is called OMGBQROM. Where is the cyanongemod 7 or MIUI Roms????? That is a pity because this device is excellent for a person who wants to carry it into a pocket or small bag.
Oh god, so excited! When will this come in europe then? Anybody know that?

[Q] When will be available for ics ATT?

Ok so i have the Galaxy
S2 skyrocket for att and i realize other people have this phone (outside att) and they say the ics update is already available and in att.com its available for the Samsung Galaxy S2 (first one launched), when i connect my phone to Samsung Kies on my PC it says that the phone does not support updating via kies.. i was wondering when the update would be available for the phone and how in att cause damn its the second best phone of samsung in ATT ><
We don't know exactly when the official date it, it was speculated around the end of this month and some say maybe a different month.
We did get a recent leak from Design Gears on a later build of ICS which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1719432 Thats the closest ICS stock you will get to with it being ATT (has ATT bloat :good: ).
Other options if you want to have ICS on the phone is getting a custom ROM based on ICS and there is plenty on here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1383 (SKY ICS is a favorite one)
There is also other ones that have no bloat but are still in testing such as CM9 (what I currently use) and AOKP which recently got an official for Skyrocket.
http://get.cm/?device=skyrocket (CM9)
http://aokp.co/index.php/news (AOKP) (Unicorns anyone? :silly: )
But to answer your question. Samsung Galaxy SII has official ICS release while Skyrocket is still on the waiting list.
lock this dumb thread.

[Q] Custom ROM for have motorola xyboard 8.2 (MZ609)

Are there custom ROMS for this tablet? I'm looking for JellyBean ROMS please.
I don't think so because the device is still locked down. I got mine as a Freebie when I bought my Note2 last December, and it's just being used as a E-mail and Calendar tool right now, but will be given to the niece as soon as the new Galaxy Tabs come out in a month or so. It's a shame....the Xyboard 8.2 really is the perfect size, good build, but under-powered specs and Motorolas refusal to update it to JB (although they said it will be....but no date, and I know that has a lot to do with Verizon), it simply won't do for me anymore.
