Good news for some Canadian Samsung Galaxy owners today. I just received an email that Samsung and respective carriers will start to push out the long awaited upgrade to Android OS 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich today. Samsung stated that “the upgrade will be available today on select devices in Canada and will continue rolling out to devices and carriers throughout the quarter.” There’s no word on which carriers or devices will be getting ICS today, just a confirmed list of devices, including various smartphone and tablets. We’ve reached out to Samsung for a bit more clarity, but they do note that “The availability and scheduling of the software upgrade and specific models upgradable to Android 4.0 will vary by market and wireless carriers’ requirements. For carrier specific details, please visit your nearest carrier retailer.”
Here’s the complete list of devices that will be graced with Android OS 4.0:
- GALAXY S II
- GALAXY S II LTE
- GALAXY S II LTE HD
- GALAXY S II X
- GALAXY Note
- GALAXY Tab 7.0
- GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus
- GALAXY Tab 8.9
- GALAXY Tab 10.1

That is a very odd statement for alleged updated that are landing "today" with no details on which devices are being updated "today".
We would have at least expect them to say which devices are starting the roll out today and which are "coming soon".
Is the P6200 being sold in Canada or is it the Wifi P6210?
I think its just the 6210.
the best good news!
well, at least we are getting some "roll".. though the "soon" is still there, it's stil a much better news than before.
What doesn't sit well with me though is that it has Galaxy Tab 7.0 in the list. I thought the regular 7.0 wasn't getting the update or am I terribly mistaken?
Update: We’ve heard back from Samsung and it looks like the rollout will start later this week: “The ICS update will be available this week and will continue rolling out to devices and carriers throughout the quarter.”

I agree. It was always pretty clear that the original Tab's hardware would keep it out of the running for an official upgrade to ICS (or so said Samsung). Something seems not quite right here.
By the way, at my local Best Buy, as of last weekend, all the Samsung tablets are on clearance.
But the update is rolling out:
http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/30/samsung-canada-ics-touchwiz-rollout/
Ah that is a bit more definitive that something is happening. Guess that is good news in general though.
No updates available as yet.
My build is Canadian: P6210XXLb2
If I can't update, which stock ROM do you guys suggest I install before trying update? Screenshot of "about device" attached. Thx.

That's probably the 7.7. The GTab 7.0 was never on any of the lists for upgrade I've seen.
Not to ruin the party, but they will probably start with updating the Galaxy S II (like they did in Europe) and then slowly, through the end of quarter add additional devices.
If you read the press release closely that's what it probably means.
Don't expect to see an update before the European unlocked (of Hong Kong) version get it.

-galaxy TAB 7 (P1000 2010 VERSION) = ICS will not released (maybe a ginger value pack)
-galaxy TAB 7.7 (P6800) = ICS will be released (probably te last on the list...)
Where are the custom ROMS?????
I like ANDROID stock ROMS like Gingerbread, Honeycomb and ICS , but how about the custom roms for this device?? I do not know what happen to the developers of the devices to build a nice one. I have installed at least 20 different custom ROMS for my SAMSUNG GALAXY ACE smarthphone, but I only found a custom Rom for the galaxy tab plus that is called OMGBQROM. Where is the cyanongemod 7 or MIUI Roms????? That is a pity because this device is excellent for a person who wants to carry it into a pocket or small bag.
Oh god, so excited! When will this come in europe then? Anybody know that?

Android 4.0 ICS software upgrade for GALAXY Note, GALAXY SII LTE, GALAXY R, GALAXY Tab 7.0 Plus, 7.7, 8.9 and 10.1 will follow soon.

Samsung Electronics will also offer Android 2.3 Gingerbread firmware upgrades for GALAXY S, GALAXY Tab 7", GALAXY S Plus, GALAXY S SCL(Super Clear LCD), and GALAXY W from end of March. The firmware upgrades for GALAXY S, for example, include Face Unlock, Snapshot, Photo Editor and others.

Yes, this is good. Once they release their kernel sources we'll be able to start porting CM9. Right now teamhacksung is using a binary kernel from the Galaxy SII ICS leaks in their CM9 builds.
AMAZING!!!!

Im hoping for the best too, but until I see a P-6200 release I wont get excited.

Galaxy Nexus is a Nexus, not a regular Samsung phone.
Besides that, vanilla UI is not as good as TW.
The only complaint I have about TW is it being "super intrusive". I own an (SPH-D700) Epic 4G and it took our developers about a full year to get it fully CM complaint/functional. Getting AOSP (CM/MIUI) fully functional was difficult due to the fact that our kernel(s)/file(s) were all reliant on TW. But (correct me if I'm wrong) I've heard that Samsung is now making TW less "intrusive" on Android devices. If this is 'true', I wouldn't mind having TW layed up on top of ICS (or any other Android version). TW actually has 'some' helpful features

We have the right to our own opinion. I will take stock ics over touchwiz any given day. After using the nexus and the butter smooth experience, I will not touch anything else.
Agreed, Pure Vanilla tastes best.
It seems Samsung has released their kernel source code for ICS. Hopefully this helps our development move right along.

Samsung is in close communication with both Google and our carrier partners to upgrade devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as quickly and as smoothly as possible. Specific models that will receive the ICS update include the following devices. Other specifics for the ICS update in the U.S. have not been announced.
This list may be altered as updates are confirmed or released.
Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus Wi-Fi (P6210)
How about P6200?
Engadget:
On AT&T, ICS is confirmed for its Galaxy S II, the Galaxy S II Skyrocket, Galaxy Note, Captivate Glide, Nexus S and Galaxy Tab 8.9. T-Mobile customers, however, lack a similarly breathless list of upgradable hardware, instead Samsung says it will aim to upgrade "eligible devices" in the coming months and will "provide updates as we have additional details to share." Which all sounds like those updates aren't coming to Big Magenta any time soon. Samsung vows to update the list with more details as they arrive, which is available at the source below.

OP,
The announcement was made by Samsung mobile in the US.
The P6200 doesn't sell officially in the US so Samsung US didn't announce anything about it.
The P6200 was already announced by Samsung Korea as being upgraded soon.

No offense but your post is a LITTLE misleading. For full article go to http://mobilesyrup.com/2012/04/30/s...de-will-be-available-today-on-select-devices/
All they're really saying is that today is the START of the ICS rollout, which is supposed to last throughout the quarter. This means that the Skyrocket may not get the update until late June. Still, it is a good start. Maybe it'll lead to development of some more stable ICS roms.
The subject cut off a little yes.
Not meaning to be misleading, but this is a good sign no? Might indeed be the Skyrocket if Rogers is the first carrier ready with the bloatware.
Looks like at least 1 device is getting ICS today, so good news!

A whinge about note 1 getting 4.1.2 whilst he doesnt have it.
I'm still on 4.1.1 but you don't see me ranting about it.
What does he expect us to do?
Timely news as my screen-cracked Note 1 is sitting my my draw (official repair £222) and I am about to take my Note 2 in with Sudden Death Symdrome - I work near enough the Samsung repair place in Angel to catch a bus there at lunch time. So it's worth the repair and then a resale with all the accessories...
Sort of on topic, my N8000 got 4.1.2 last week and I wish Samsung would stop this nonsensical regional lottery on updates.
It's more complicated than a region lottery, but still...
And even though 4.2.1 is a big deal for the Note 1, it's stretching the limits of the device
UNLIKE the Note 10.1 which can more than handle it.

I don't think Samsung expected so much tablet growth considering the reviews. The growth is 263% for tablets now add cell phones to that. I have had 2 updates for my Note and only had it since November.

Now now - in my book swearing is ranting - and with even less class!
Would be interested to see the "promise" you talk about. There is absolutely no guarantee that Samsung will provide OTA updates of any firmware/software to all regions. It is not in any purchase contract.
To update your Note 10.1 to the latest official JB firmware is trivial. Pick the latest version for your device posted for Germany, UK, USA, China or wherever you want. Flash using Odin or Mobile Odin and you are updated.
If you can't be bothered to do this then go away and stop ranting and swearing in a developers forum!

Ok, you could say that Jelly Bean is only announced in June 2012, Samsung only announced it verbally that it will update it to Jelly Bean before the end of 2012, and now it's only nearly March of 2013, and Key Lime Pie is only about to be announced, and so what? Do you honestly don't see anything wrong with that?
It may not a purchase contract, but it is what Samsung said when it announced Note 10.1, and it is the reason why many others, including I bought it.
Whether you like it or not, Samsung did not live up to what it said, and in turns damaged its credibility.
The fact that I put a Note 1 news in it, is because I am trying to highlight something. It's not like Sammy doesn't have any resource to spare, it is just spending it on updating devices like Note 1, Galaxy S2, which deserve less priority. When my note 10.1 didn't get jelly bean, while note 1 is up to 4.1.2, that is unfair, that is the problem, and that is what my "swearing" is trying to highlight. Well I didn't actually swear as the middle letters could be anything: Funk, Fork. If that is the only thing you get out of my comment, and you assume it must be a swear word, then perhaps you have a sick mind yourself and you have no idea what the focus is.
To force update a firmware that is not designed, not localised, nor may it work properly for my device (as evident in the endless rant and problems in the android development forum) is not an ideal solution, and certainly not what Samsung should force a customer to do. You can certainly flash it at your own risk, and how does it mean that everyone else must be willing to take that risk like you, or does it mean others must live with local customisation that may not even make sense? I hope you do see that I posted this in the General forum (unless you think anything not related to flashing other firmwares must not be part of General), and there are many people like me still waiting for official jelly bean (as highlighted by Tirozz too in this thread), who you obviously don't give a rat's ass about and just wanted them to flash other ROMs.
What methods have you tried to update your device with ?
As I purchased my note 10.1 last week and immediately asked it to do an OTA update and ta da it installed BLK9 (4.1.1 Jelly Bean)
Out of interest it's an N8010 (wifi only)
It could be your region that's holding back your firmware but jellybean certainly officially exists on the note 10.1 and it came out before the note 1 by some margin.
Samsung always has quite a slow roll out schedule as to not overload there servers with everyone trying to update at once.
Look what happened to apple when there servers got overwhelmed devices got updated with corrupt roms which bricked them ...
But if you think samsung is bad for regional delays take a look at other manufacturers sony for example swing from releasing one update first in the uk to the last place to get an the next update.
Well I have a note 10.1 Wi-Fi only and still stuck on 4.0.4, bought it on the airport when I left Holland. I'm offshore near east Timor now but do have internet.

As of today Samsung has started rolling the 4.2.2 update for the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0. They also started to update the Galaxy S2 Plus.
It seems they actually do intend to upgrade most of the dual core Galaxy devices to 4.2.2.
Hopefully this indicates that an update is coming for our devices in the near future.
Our hardware is for sure more powerful then what is found in the Tab 2 so we will be able to call bulls**t if Samsung decides to not release 4.2.2 for our tab ... not that this will make things better in any imaginable way.

The Tab2 usually gets things about 3 - 4 months ahead of the P62xx series. Rumors have been flying that Samsung might skip 4.2.2 and go straight to 4.3 updates. We will see. Not a lot of visible changes in 4.2.2 or 4.3, but some nice bug fixes and behind the scenes improvements.
At the moment Samsung has yet to release 4.1.2 fully for the P6210 and its somewhat disconcerting that they appear to have removed the UK 4.1.2 ROM for the P6210 from KIES.

Because the tab 2 has 3,000,000 users and we, the 7 Plus crowd, have about 150. That's why.....
When I had to call Samsung for something a while ago I asked about the new update schedule and the rep told me that they're not updating past jellybean for our tablet. Hopefully that lady was just a regular rep who only knows about as much as we do but it still surprised me when she said it so matter of factly. Has anyone seen an official Samsung update schedule posted anywhere like they had when they were first getting ready for the ics updates? Now that i think of it I don't remember seeing one for the jellybean updates, at least not with our device in the list.
This might be a dumb question but Has the official update for 4.1.2 came out for U.S. yet?

Since Goggle hasn't announced anything past Jelly Bean how could any vendors announce anything about something that doesn't exist?
There is no official US P6210 4.1.2 yet, but the official UK version works fine on the US model.
Samsung might skip 4.2.2 and go straight to JB 4.3 but there are no visible to the user changes in 4.3 so I don;t know if it makes any difference.
