[Q] WiFi switching off - HTC Desire S

Hiya folks,
Bit of weird one here. I can't seem to switch on my WiFi anymore. I turn it on, it tries to enable, but then switches off without any interaction from me. I've done nothing different, software wise, with the phone over the past few months. I did, however, take a 2 hour drive the other day with strong sun coming in the window. I had been using the phone as a SatNav and I'm wondering if maybe it over heated and killed the wifi chip or something. Is this familiar to anyone? I've never heard of it before so any help would be great.
Thanks a million,
T

What rom are you on?
Have you tried a full wipe? maybe try to re-flash if problem still persist or test with a different rom.

Is there a way to run diagnostics test on a failing fuze?

Hey guys a few days ago I dropped my phone. Nothing broke, the screen didn't crack. Nothing got loose.
After I turned it on there was no more 3G (prior to the drop I always had 3G coverage), My signal dropped to two bars and alot of times it showed as roaming.
I think something inside got messed up, I opened the phone but everything seems fine.
Is there anyway to find out what is wrong? Maybe a diognostics test like cars have that tells me what is failing?
I have done a hard reset, and even reflashed my phone. Nothing seems to work.
If someone can help me out to fix my problem successfully I would give you 40.00 dollars. I really need this phone fixed and cannot afford another one. I use it for work cause its GPS since I travel alot.

[Q] Phone restarts itself on bad wifi connection?

This past weekend I went home to my parents place, and they have a truly godawful internet connection. When you add than on top of the fact that it's a brick house, you get a spotty wifi connection to a slow line combined with a small wifi antenna in a phone usually means that wifi on my phone is terrible when I'm there.
Unfortunately I forgot my laptop this weekend, and wanted to watch some netflix before going to bed. Because I didn't want to destroy my monthly data limit (2gb) I decided to try the wifi. It was working ok at first, long buffers, low quality, but watchable. But then my phone restarted itself.
When it turned back on, I load up the same episode and it does it again. At first I think it's a netflix issue and leave it alone. But the next day while browsing (chrome), it does the same thing. I then realize that all three times, it got hung up while loading. In the case of netflix, loading the episode, and in the case of the browser, whatever page it was. I then turned off the wifi and tried netflix over the 4g connection and it worked perfectly. Same thing with browsing.
Has anyone else encountered this problem, or know about an alternate explanation that could be restarting the phone? If so, do you have a solution? It restarted itself probably a total of 6 times while the wifi was turned on, and not once after I switched it off. At home, with a strong wifi connection, it also never restarts itself.
Thanks for any help.
TL: DR Phone restarts itself while trying to load stuff on a slow wifi connection. Does not restart on 4G or good wifi.
Thanks for the TLDR haha
What ROM are you running? I personally have never had that issue.

At the moment I am running stock, unrooted. I just got this phone last week after having a Samsung captivate for two years. While I had that thing ROM'd to the gills, but rooting and installing ROMs seems a bit more complicated on this phone and I am taking my time making sure I know what I'm doing first.

Are you experiencing GPS flakiness? Try this.

I discovered this when I turned GPS off out of disgust. I was having very inconsistent problems. Sometimes GPS would take a long time to lock. Sometimes it would never lock. Sometimes it would lock, but place me at the wrong coordinates. Sometimes, it would be working and then just stop working mid-trip; just general flakiness.
So, I turned it off. Then, the next day I tried to use Google Maps and that reminded me to turn it back on. Immediate (I mean, like 2 sec!) lock and correct coordinates. I turned it back off. Later, turned it back on and checked maps again. Immediate lock. Since then I've duplicated it several times. This is on the same ROM where I was having problems (I've had intermittent problems regardless of which ROM I flash) getting a lock before. Now, inside, outside, it makes no difference. It just works.
Sooooo, the only reason I could think of that it would only work when it had been off is if there is a hardware problem causing the chipset to heat-up and fail intermittently with use. Either that, or some kind of cache is building up that is causing problems, but my money is on the former. And that is something I'll have to return it under warranty for.
If you are having GPS issues, try that on your phone. Leave GPS entirely off for a day, and then turn it on and immediately give it a try.

this is common on samsung devices...normally i turn off gps, toggle airplane mode on/off, turn gps back on, and it locks quickly.
I've been banging my head off of the wall over my gps, we have 4 gs3s and 3 have good gps and mine sucks. I swore it was from unlocking the bootloader so I odined the phone (3 times) the gps is a little better but still not as fast and accurate as the other 3. I can get 8 satellites but no lock sometimes.

I really am thinking it is isolated to certain devices. Mine has no gps issues, toggle is always on, works fast across all roms I've run (aosp, tw, jb tw). Maybe people's devices with issues came off the assembly line on a Friday around 5:00!

First off, I turned my GPS off overnight, the first time I've done so since noticing the GPS issue, and it gave me a tight location within 10s.
I've used the GPS all over the NE US and Hawaii without issue thru August, then I rooted all of our phones, (4 GS3's) when the update came out in order to block it and to ensure I could root if I ever decided to. I took my phone a step further and used the ez unlock app for no particular reason. Around that time, I'm still not sure it's related, my GPS started getting flaky. First I tried updating radios and that didn't help, then I odined to the HD leak and the GPS got a little better, I then tried the GPS.conf files from the GPS fix in the development thread and that didn't help either, I then Odined again and the problem lessened but out of nowhere I began getting a com.android.phone error and couldn't use the phone, another Odin last night then this thread popped up. I guess we'll see how things work out today.

data connection dropping ONLY while using hotspot

i can link to a youtube video if necessary, but it's straightforward.
i have a very strong LTE signal in my apartment, and i have no issues whatsoever with data, EXCEPT if i turn hotspot on. sometimes data will just shut off and on every 10 seconds for a good five minutes, and other times, it might be fine for half an hour before cutting out. i haven't been able to reliably replicate the problem, so i don't know if it's something in particular that i'm doing on my laptop or tablet. i can be streaming music, browsing the internet, or just doing nothing and there's no rhyme or reason for the intermittent connectivity.
does anyone else have this issue? Verizon is saying the phone might be bad and they're sending a shell of a replacement phone without a back cover or battery, so i guess i could try it out, but i'm wondering if the replacement will be all beaten up or not.
the only thing that i could think of was that the timeout setting was too short, but i checked it today and it was set at 20 minutes. i could set it to "never" time out and see what happens, i suppose, but i figured i'd ask here to see if anyone else had this problem.
thanks in advance.
bump.
You're not alone ;this has been an ongoing problem with several users here when they're using the wireless hot spot. I tend to have better luck when the screen of the phone stays on, but sometimes it doesn't matter, and the data still drops.
FWIw, I'm stock, rooted, and using PDAnet (Foxfi). I had the problem when I was paying for tethering as well (stock hotspot app), not to mention that I was having issues when I was running CleanROM. It's quite annoying.
Please let us know if the replacement phone helps your problem.

Sporatic Mobile Network Connection

I got my Nexus 5 a few weeks ago and I'm really loving it, but about 5 or 6 days ago it started to randomly be unable to connect to my network for the first few minutes after rbooting my phone, and then just random intervals of 5 or 10 minutes of being unable to connect to my mobile network at a time (my telecom is Rogers, I dunno if that's relevant). and it appears to be getting worse as time goes on (that admittedly could just be in my head). I use MultiRom, so first I tried using my secondary ROM more often to see if it worke without issue or differed in the severity, scope or conditions of the problem, but I experienced the issue exactly the same. Next I swapped my primary and Secondary thinking that would somehow help... still no dice. Today I flashed a third ROM and it's still an issue. From this I take it that the issue isn't ROM one, so I'm stumped. I'm almost positive that my bootloader and radio are up to date so I'm up against a brick wall. Has anyone else had this issue? Or have any clue what I should try next? I know without a LogCat this isn't something easily diagnosable, but it's late and whatnot, so in the time being I'm mostly curious if this is a regular or known problem that I'm unaware of/ my searching somehow failed to turn up? Anyway, any help wou;d be much appreciated, but thanks to those who even so much as take the time to glance at this. Cheers!
