[Project] - Help Needed - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help out with a little project I have been thinking about. With this being my first android phone I am still reading up and learning how to develop. In the mean time I was hoping I could get some help from the community. I do not see this as a project I will be taking credit for but more of a collection of work from anyone willing to help, or give me permission to use their mods.
I would like to create a fairly flexible aroma installer with a fair amount of options. Allowing users to really customize their ROMS on install with a couple of tweaks I have in mind.
I have looked into Aroma and sort of understand the coding but was really hoping one of the Devs could help me get a very basic package together as a start (I know most of them are busy on their own projects and roms so it may not be viable). Hopefully I will find some help and can update this post as the project grows (if it grows). If any Devs are interested in helping me start this project of could you send me a PM.
NOTE
As I said this isnt a project I plan to take credi for and will be giving ALL credit to anyone that contributes to me getting it off the ground and started. I will also try my best to donate to anyone who can assist where possible. I will update this OP as the project continues and hopefully once I have got it off the ground people could help build it with ideas.

apparently i read your name to fast....
there are many awesome devs on the HoX. I would just pm some of them and see if you can get the response you are looking for.

Head over to the transformer prime dev forum. Mrwookie just put together an amazing Rom that uses Aroma installer with a bunch of options. He's a super helpful guy and may be willing to help you.

XsMagical who is a dev for our phone uses the aroma installer for his roms already so I would think he would be able to help you out. Here is his thread for his Rom nocturnal which I am using now.

I didn't want to annoy anyone by just starting to pm them asking for help especially since I am reasonably new at this which is why I thought I would ask for volunteers instead. I will reach out to the guy in the prime forum to see if he will help seeing he isn't developing for HoX. To get started I really need a simple installer with maybe 3 different screens one for selecting a rom (just the deoxed stock 1.85 for now), the one for theme (just the blue notification bar or none for now) and then one for mods (hopefully the dual core and oc mods). This will help me start the project.
Thanks for the advice.
I am in the process of checking with the devs to see if I may use their mods in the installer.

Development Coming Soon? (AndroidSpin Posted My Article, Skilled Dev Willing to help)

I've been trying my hardest contacting many people to get development started with this phone. Since not many Experienced Devs would be looking the way of this phone i've been trying to reach out.
I Contacted AndroidSpin as well and they are very well known android news site (which i check everyday) and managed to get an article out about helping with development with our phone (awsome, thanks AndroidSpin!) See the Article Here
Hopefully in the Near future we will have a working recovery and ROMs/Mods/Themes Rolling out. A Very experienced Dev has Contacted me Back Saying he is Willing to Help but nothing is promised as he doesnt have a Sidekick 4G at hand. But he is willing to make a working recovery for us so lets see what happens .
He will Definitely need testers.. i will be one ofcourse hope others are interested in seeing development stir up over here aswell !
nice to hear about.....i have been checked this 4rum everyday to looking for a news but still......hopefully something will come out soon....:x im willing to be the tester for this as well.....
I just want to say thank you to all of you working on this. As a former Hiptop user and open-source enthusiast, I took issue with the closed platform that Danger had installed on it and ended up ditching it. When I heard the new Sidekicks would be running Android I jumped at the chance to have one, only to find out that development was lacking interest due to the stigma of the old Hiptops as phones for teenagers. It's wonderful to see more people getting interested in this and I hope to help as much as I can in the future. Thank everyone again and happy hacking to you all!
willing to help
I'm very interested in getting development going for this phone as well, I don't have the time or the skill set to cook roms myself but I am more than willing to test and give feedback. I know a lot of devs aren't interested since they spent last year with the galaxy s line of phones and there are new dual cores to play with, but I think this phone is really unique and could definitely have a big following because of the fact that it is soo different than the sea of slabs out there. I hope development picks up, there are plenty of custom roms out there already built for the galaxy s line that would only need to be tweaked to work with this device so hopefully that picks up soon.
I'm very interested in helping with development, came from the G1 and had fun with that. I was trying to figure out how to compile ClockworkMod but because Samsung uses initRamFS rather than a regular makefile, I was unable to figure it out. I'm very open to testing and trying to help as best I can with developing on this phone, feel free to e-mail me if anyone has any need to test anything, I'm always checking my e-mail. sduvick AT gmail.com. For those who understand the compiling of clockworkmod, I would suggest working from the Vibrant version, as the buttons are all mapped right, we just need to add the storage driver so that the sdcard can be mounted.
I would love to be a tester please keep me posted.

+Thanks.
I'm still stock and would be willing to help some dev's

I'm attempting Devving :p

Well as of now I'm attempting to port this Rom from the Inspire. I know its fine because the Rom is apart of AOKP (Android Open KANG Project) So far...I'm yet to get it booting as this is my First Rom...Blue6IX has been really great to me with his amazing guides scattered in pretty much one Mother-of-All-Threads
So know promises but hope for an Booting Alpha soon. If you know anything that can assist me (guides, techniques etc) please PM me or post below. Btw I will be editing this thread for updates on my progress.
Awesome, we can always use another Dev.
that would be great, the screenshots of that ROM look really slick! if you can catch jkilo, he could probably help ya, and in general you'd probably get some pointers in the IRC. good luck, and have fun!
Maybe eventually you can get CM9 booting on our device.
Yes lol...have actually been trying to catch him on the irc servers...no luck
(PDF will open once link is clicked) A porting AOSP guide.

lol where...?
@xmc wildchild...pm me when you get a chance. I can give u all tools needed to compile code. Build code. Etc etc. Let me know if you need any help.
We already have a 'getting started with doubleshot' guide/sticky thread. Would it be a really good idea to have one for devving for this device too?
We have really few devs around here and I know our devs went through a lot to get where they are right now, but the quickest way to share the basics on this would be to have a basic getting started with devving for the mt4gs guide.
It would reduce the number of PMs devs have to deal with too and give more time to work on their roms. It would also be a nice avenue to share ways to fix common bugs/problems with the device during the dev process, for those willing to share their knowlegde.
I know there's something like this somewhere on XDA, but I think with the number of devs we have around it would be a great idea to have a personalised one for this device.
I hope this isn't to much to ask for.

[ROM-Petition] Petition for Ubuntu touch on the HOS

Hello People,
I read a thread which started a petition to get XDA -Dev users to test the Ubuntu Touch OS on the HOS. I recently checked the petition again and saw that it was only 250 submissions short. i dont know about you guys, but I would really enjoy using and of course testing and reporting the Ubuntu Touch OS. This is why I ask you guys to sign this, if you also want to see Ubuntu Touch to get to the HTC One S.

To the Mods, If i really need to remove the link, because i am still under the required posts, I will. I just wanted to get this petition out there again
if i find the original thread I will link it, or if someone else finds it.

In my experience; trying to force developers to do something just because you want it done never works. I know that is probably not how you meant the petition to look but in my mind it looks more like "See, here is the number of people that want this. Now make it happen" instead of "Hey, there are a bunch of people on this list that would love if you could make this, but it's completely up to you.":silly:
Well i didnt start the petition and its not specifically for the HOS but rather a petition so the XDA users, who generally have more knowledge about OSs and ROMs than the average consumer, can test the OS and report bugs etc. This in return, should help Ubuntu Touch to be as bug free as possible from release on. I do get your point, i just think its not like forcing a single dev to make something, as it is The Ubuntu Team working on the OS, additionally the Ubuntu Team would get a huge community base to test their operating system, and report bugs they find.
Kogadin
I frequent the Dev section and basically so far many devs want to build Ubuntu for the HOS, however it just isn't that easy. The lack of ROM hasn't been the result of a lack of trying.
Somebody's out there trying man http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2206904 just be patient and have faith.. I've seen youtube videos of it running on the One X so hopefully it will be running on our devices in the near future.. What these devs have is a talent. I wish I could do what they do...
Found that thread after I wrote this one. I was really excited. And I really hope that the developers will succeed in porting ubuntu to our awesome phone

It would be nice to have this os to test but to be honest I'm not a fan and don't think its a great product. I'm sticking to android but good luck

A Call for Help

I'm reaching out in some genereal forums and I am looking for devs that are looking for a challenge. It's a little far off, and may involve buying a device that is discontinued from the mainline of phones and android. But over at the Sidekick 4G Forums we have a single dev that has been making us some cool roms, and another developer working on kernels. They're sticking by us and helping but we could use the help if anybody is interested. As of right now, our device is still on Froyo...
Basically what happened before I even knew that the Sidekick had such scarce development before I even came in with it, but all of the ungrateful kids that wanted their roms "now and the way they say" .... essentially just being jerks, kind of just pushed all devs out of interest with us.
I believe we need kernel devs... our current dev I believe is still working but is in a rough spot with his life - "bhundven" - so I thought I would post and see if there were any takers.
I don't have anything to offer other than the challenge and gratitude beyond your belief :3
What do u guys have for kernel?
One ROM @ a time....VIA ELECTRICITY
Guys, if you don't want to help him then just leave the thread. Thanks
Ill try to help if I had detail ...I'm to busy to be snooping in forums ..if I can help I can if not I'll let u know
One ROM @ a time....VIA ELECTRICITY
Right now we have a froyo kernel version 2.6.35.9
We have been trapped in this yogurt cup for a few years haha. I don't have all the technical info but the current flashable kernel is called Bali_SK4G_2.2 with voodoo lagfix.

KitKat for HTC Thunderbolt

With Kitkat being ported to so many older devices because of the lowered system requirements, I figured its time we get one on the ThunderBolt. I by no means can do this on my own, so that is why I am starting this thread. I will try to reach out to as many devs as possible to get this going. Just a little about myself, Ive done basic ROM developement on a few devices, the most notable being the 2 generations of the Nexus 7. Over the past few months I have greatly expanded my knowledge and capabilities with android. The extent of my coding knowledge is basic Java, a little bit of C++, and arduino, which is why I need help for this. I see this as both a learning opportunity for me as well as a chance to participate in expanding the Thunderbolt dev community. I'm mainly looking for somone who can help with kernel and radio develpement, and someone who can help with porting the actual software over. The reason I need these people is because I have no experience in kernel development, and as for the actual developement of a KitKat rom, I'm sure its more complex then downloading KitKat source and throwing in the Thunderbolt device trees. I've been researching the topic and havent found much useful information. If you feel you can help support the effort please contact me.

I assume by transplant you mean just try to flash a rom for another device with simmilar specs? (Same MSM8655 CPU, Same amount of ram, etc)
Kitkat would be awesome!
I'll test whatever you throw up here.
That's about all I'm good for. Sorry.

Santod was the reason why I loved my thunderbolt. I still have it but rarely use it. Sadly the screen is cracked but it was always a reliable phone.

I'm sure there are more than a few people who would contribute to the cause of getting AOSP and CM11 on this phone. My old fascinate has it and so do all my other phones since.

There definitely are, but the difficulty of getting data on AOSP for this device, coupled with the age, current ownership/userbase, and developer interest translates to probably not. It's okay though, it was a great ride while it lasted.
