It's a while that my Sensation got this wifi issue. It simply stay with the "Activating WiFi" message all the day. I've already tried to flash a ruu, custom kernels, ril, radio and everything i can imagine.
I got a S-OFF sensation (coming from a previous Revolutionary), then unlocked with htcdev method.
HBOOT:1.27.0000
Radio: 11.22.3504.07_M
FW: 3.32
I really don't know what to do..
Really thanks in advance for those who answer!
I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE!!!IT IS REALLY FRUSTRATING AND NOTHING WORKS!!!
Since you said you did htc-dev unlock, when you are about to flash a new rom, in your recovery(mine is ext touch)go to tools and select smartflash and then flash rom. Please report back! Apparently if you have revolutionary s-off we shouldn't be having this problem. I think mine is a hardware issue
wifi problem with HTC Sensation
I domehow have the same issue with all ICS ROMs. I used to have GB ROMs and they were ok with WIFI. After installing 2 ICS ROMs, I can't get WIFI to work. When I turn it on, it shows available networks for 4-5 seconds and then nothing! I have to turn off, and then turn on again to see the wireless networks again, but only for 4-5 seconds!
The problem is for sure not a hardware one, as I can use WIFI Hotspot without a problem, so the hardware should be ok!
Any idea?
Guy's keep it simple and flash another kernel the kernel is breaking your WiFi I had this problem in the past and thats how I fix it the kernel is over clocked to high and that Will break your WiFi every time

Maybe flashed the wrong kernel ? Try flashing a new Rom with the latest recovery. If that fails then relock your bootloader with fastboot (fastboot oem-lock) then install your ruu, then usr the HTC dev unlock tool

it works after tons of tries.
1. Take off the sim card
2. Use this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445766
3. Check if it works (maybe after a reboot)
4. Switch the WiFi OFF
5. Put the sim in
6. Try the WiFi now
this worked for me.
it has been a hell!!!

I already tried changing kernels. Why whould devs package a kernel that breaks your wifi?

Hi all.
I am facing a problem since i rooted my phone and installed ARHD XE on my NORMAL sensation.
Everything was fine for first 10 days after custom rom. Then suddenly one day the phone started to switch off and only after two or three reboots at the Htc screen does the phone successfully boots. This started to happen randomly.
Then i installed viper with all the default options at 1.5 mhz badass kernel and the problem has come back with the phone switching off. To sucesfully restart sometimes i need to remove the battery and reinsert.
I am on 3.32 radio with s-off and 4ext recovery.
Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

I'm on ViperS from Venom since last 22 days...I had not faced any issue...
Try to re-install the ROM. Keep everything as default..and must follow the HBOOT & RADIO versions as provided by Venom(If u want to install ViperS then)
And do not change the Kernel..

Thats 3 of your posts that are useless and promote the team venom rom now, how much are they paying you again? STOP ADVERTISING AND PROMOTING OTHER ROM's.
If someone wants to use venom rom they will, if someone doesnt then its their choice so can you stop trying to promote that particular ROM please. People are perfectly capable of making their own minds up.
Have you checked to see if you're battery has a wiggle or is lose at all?v if it is you can reestablish contact by putting a small piece of paper in the bottom of battery to stop the movement . This establishes contact again and prevents the rebooting .if the battery is stable it is another issue. By any chance are you under volting the CPU? Sometimes that can also cause the issue? If none of these things are true perhaps try posting on the roms developers site. Perhaps it's a issue and the developer or other users know of a fix . Hope this helps .

You might have a bad battery.
Thank you everyone for your inputs.
I have reflashed Venom with all the default settings and have crossed my fingers !!!
I doubt this relates to battery since only after installing custom roms this has started to happen. Before that i had used this phone as completely stock for a year and never faced this problem.
Thanks everyone again.
It's been some time since I posted the problem. I searched around and didn't find any new information, so I am just hoping I missed something, like a possible thread that has a fix.
I have no WiFi, have gone through the book trying to fix it, to no avail. HOWEVER, I left the phone un used for about a month, battery had died long ago. A few days ago, I grabbed and and just decided to give it another shot and install revolution hd on it. For whatever reason, it installed successfully and the WiFi was working perfectly. So I updated the 4ext and had notice that a new version of HD had come out, so I decided to update it, and well, back to square 0, WiFi no longer works. So I tried to back pedal and repeated the steps leading up to the WiFi working, Super Wipe with smart flash enable, reboot, installed HD with no smart flash. But this time it did not work. Strange that it worked before though, I wonder if it being out of battery for so long had something to do with it.
did you try to flash the boot.img of your rom?
also if you are S-ON when flashing a rom always enable smartflash

I too had the wifi issues for quite some time. After updating my kernel it got fixed.
Probably you could do the following:
1. If your HBOOT is S-ON, make sure you follow the above two posts while flashing ROM
2. Ensure that the latest firmware is being used.
2. Try changing the kernel (mine is faux 009b4 now).
I am S-OFF, like I said, I've tried everything.
Just seem odd that out of nowhere it flashed correctly, I should of just left it at that, maybe if I leave the battery inside the phone drained for a while I can repeat the successful flash.

Hello all,
I've a problem with wifi in my Desire S and actually I don't know if it's software or hardware related. The problem:
Wifi switch is On, but no network scans at all, sometimes networks appear, but just for two, three seconds, and then no networks again. The process is: I turn wifi switch on, messages of: Turning wifi on, scanning..., on, disconnected, no networks available.
Wifi hotspot don't work either. Everything else is working perfectly

Current ROM: Fallout Evolution V5.0.0 ROM
Kernel: TWEAKED VERSION 6.0 - for Sense 4
H-Boot: 7.00.1002 | Reengineered 2.00.002
Radio: 20.76.30.0835U_3831.19.00.110
Kernel & radio flashed through fastboot flash, hboot, firmware in bootloader with PG88IMG
Tried almost everything, from wipe all three and four times, reinstall everything, to remove revolutionary and get stock HTC RUU again, neither of them worked.
Might be a rom problem, go ask the dev of the rom that you are using. Check the "bugs" list.
If problem persists, i suggest to ruu. Properly. If it is still doesnt work, then its a hardware problem.

Thanks, then it's probably a hardware problem, because I tried RUU and different roms.
If you're on latest fallout version you should use the fallout kernel that comes with the ROM.
I'm on a very similar setup and have no issues, not that that helps you.
To completely rule out the ROM then I'd suggest
take a backup
Full wipe
Install different stock based ROM and associated kernel
Re test
Sywepd form my DsereiS
could it not be a radio problem? when I had that radio I got a big battery drain. Not that that is the same as your symptoms, but it might show that this radio does not seem to work very well for every device or setup. Maybe try ur old radio just to rule it out?
[Q] Sensation - "Wifi Error" or "Wifi Turning on" but nothing happens....
I am a newbie ... but i have already installed several roms , firmware, kernels etc....so i think i get the basics.
I downloaded from XDA ... and installed tha CyanogenMod 10 Jellybean 4.1.2.
Now i face this WIFI error...
CASE 1 (95%)
When i start the phone everything seems to be ok, i click on Wifi, and it says (TURNING ON) but it never turns on or OFF for that matter, and it stays like this infinatelly.
CASE 2 (5%)
When i put the phone on charge durring the night, i look at it in the morning and WIFI works fine, but after say 30 min ... its OFF and then we go back to CASE 1.
I googled this a lot.... tried many sollutions like, Wifix, deleting the supplicant file, flashing the Boot.img again etc. but nothing...
ANY IDEAS ????
When i go into bootloader i see the following info :

PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.12.100
RADIO-11.24A.3504.31_M
OpenADSP-V05.6.0.2226.00.0418

ITS GETTING ALITTLE BIT COMPICATED NOW !!!
PS. how about changing to another firmware say back to 3.32 ?? doesn't that flash a new Radio and kernel .....so new wifi settings ?
Also ... should i mention this if i go into bootloader --> USB cable --> fastboot and "getvar cid" the result is -------> 11111111
if i use an application called GetCID ..... it says VODAP006
Which one do i have ???? I know i changed it to 11111111, but why do i get different readings ??? whick on is the correct ?

ok try to change fw first to see if it will work
about cid you have supercid(1111111)
the app shows only the default cid
the good for being S-OFF is you can flash whatever ruu you want
but try first to use 3.32fw version
edit:changing fw surely changes radio but i am not sure if changes kernel
because kernel is including in boot.img and boot.img is including in the rom not in a fw zip
but let's hoping
I will try changing the Firmware ....to 3.32 tonight, and see whst happens.

the difference between 3.32fw and 3.33fw is only radio upgrade so any ICS rom should work in that fw

If it is a sense ROM.. and you have hboot 1.14 or higher.. the WiFi partitions won't work.. no real fix other than downgrading your hboot.. not easy and could brick your phone.. I went non_sense ROM and all is good..
Sent a from Jellyrolled One S
Do not downgrade its not safe many clam it is but if heard stories of ville bricking 2-3 weeks after downgrade.
two things that work to fix my wifi and yes im on hboot 1.14.00.4.
when you flash a new rom first use flash image gui app on your currant rom to flash boot img.
if you cant use flash image gui before flashing rom just fastboot the boot img using a pc then after new rom is up and running use flash image gui.
before flashing new rom wipe everything in recovery 3 times yes 3TIMES this does two things removes all traces of old rom and even thought twrp or cwm tells you it wiped it still might of failed. im noob at this but found all these tricks spending many hours reading and reading and reading and reading well you get what im saying. if anyone with more knowledge then me sees something wrong with what ive said feel free to let me know.
If he is using a sense ROM 4.1.2 or newer WiFi will not work period no matter how or what you use to flash it is a widely known issue for hboot 1.14

Unless you really know what you're doing, I wouldn't go downgrading your hboot. I think its more or less a one way street. But I've had no problems with the 2.15 version that came with the jb ota. I'm alternating between various sense and senseless ROMs (currently using the job Nonsense ROM, which is excellent) and have no WiFi issues. As I said to the Dev, no WiFi would be a deal breaker for me.

You may need to upgrade your phones wifi firmwares to work with some (all?) Sense ROMs. Sense ROM's take their wifi firmware from two partitions (18 & 19). However on higher hboot firmwares these partitions are not writable - like a bad joke flashing them will appear to work but won't.
I'm dreaming up a workaround that just might fix this. Trouble is, I cannot replicate the problem - I downgraded my hboot and flashed them and curse it now it's working! You cannot get yours to work and I cannot break mine Please can you tell me your baseband version. settings -> about -> software information -> more.
Good news is that CM10 based ROMs will work out of the box, wifi and radio firmware is baked in the ROM and installed in the filesystem of the phone - so it's easily changed shoud the need arise.
Sofar the only 4.1.1 sense ROM that is playing nice with hboot 1.14 is Virtuous Ville+ I use it on a Tmo USA One S and its flawless. WiFi works perfect.

Hi
I flashed the Android Sense Best Stock v.3.0 by BehradGH on my TMOU One S with Hboot 1.14 Rooted S-ON This rom rocks so I didn't want to have to get rid of it to get my wifi back...
I've been bummed out and going nuts reading every post from downgrading/upgrading Hboots... to installing linux and going through the process of locking/unlocking.. blah blah blah... I was freaking out!
UNTIL I came upon this post tonight buried deep in the forums... I am admittedly a semi-noob.. well I know just enough to get myself into trouble... and out again haha ... but the post had a link to a .zip file that you can copy onto your internal storage... boot into cwm recovery and simply flash it from there... reboot... and voila... Instant wifi connection! IT WORKS!!
No repartitioning... no flashing radios or anything else...iit takes 3 minutes!
the page is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2151142
The zip file is called "htc_on-s_wifi_fix.zip"
I was skeptical at first... but willing to try anything at this point to get my wifi working on this awesome rom... so i copied it onto my sd card, rebooted into recovery in CWM, ... flashed the zip file, ...rebooted the phone and voila! Instant "wifi It immediately started searching for ip address" (it never got that far before... just said connection problems) ... 2 seconds later it found my network and connected to my in a flash!
My phone is going crazy downloading updates at lightening speeds!! WOOT!!
My sincere apologies to the poster who actually wrote this little script for not being able to thank and acknowledge him for his work... I had like 10 windows open and i couldn't find it... but he is my new hero!!
it's 6:30am in Boston.. sun is coming up... I've been up for 4 days... 24/7 ... going out of my mind trying to fix this... I'm going to sleep for a few days... with my phone charging with the wifi on right next to my head on the pillow
