Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Voice Search vs. iOS Siri - General Questions and Answers

Siri definitely lost this battle.

Not in the courts it hasn't though.
The siri patent is what's been used by apple to get the nexus banned because googles search feature in android violates their patent...despite existing before apples patent ever did.
But yes it beats siri in tests. Shame it will end up having to be removed sooner or later though.

Voice search has ALWAYS been more functional and reliable than Siri. When I had my iPhone 4S the thing I missed the most from Android was voice search. Siri rarely works right and is a novelty at best.

I wonder why people prefer to use voice search. It just wastes time.
But it can be used as a SHOW OFF in the public.

Apple bans it because it's better.. one way to destroy the competition eh?
But not so fast, voice search was way before siri.. so if Apple wants to ban Gvoice Google have a strong defense..

No they don't have a strong defence as although prior art should count it doesn't seem to.
Case in point is the slide to unlock patent. Apple patented it after seeing a phone that came out before iphone. That should mean patent is invalidated but still apple are successfully using it.

I'm okay about that slide to unlock patent because it's their unique signature.. but voice search is a feature that every phone should have (except BlackBerry, screw them lol) and Apple DID NOT invent voice search..
Heh nevermind, let's see what's the outcome.. Apple is always the communist of the gadget industries..

That's the point...slide to unlock was copied from a phone that came out before iphone. How can it be ok for apple to have that as a "unique" feature but not the search?
Both existed before iphone had or patented them so why should either be allowed to be unique to apple?

Well, I stand on the neutral side.
Other than the fact that I prefer the TTS from Google Now's voice assistant, I think that:
In the first half of the video, Siri seems more interactive (i.e. answering 'tell me a joke') and a little faster at internal application operations, while in the next half of the video shows Google Now's ability of performing quick Internet searches and delivering results in a nice format.

To be honest I was expecting it to be near Siri, maybe as "ok" as Siri. But it blew my mind.
Google nailed it and hopefully they will keep bringing new stuff to this game.

It is a lot faster.

Apple isn't new to the art of taking other companies ideas and saying its their own. Take the mouse for instance that Xerox devs invented. Microsoft got smart and pirated the pirate. Which is when they gained the lead for so long. Apple used to be about innovation and thinking different. Now the motto should be ... Think Different. Be Sued.

Google is readying a Siri rival called Majel

This is supposed to be Google's answer to Siri Apple's iPhone 4gs favorite.
TECHNOLOGY GIANT Google is apparently working on a Siri rival that is called Majel and could be released this year.
The voice recognition software has been named after Majel Barrett-Roddenberry who voiced the computer in Star Trek. There isn't much of 2011 left but it could be released before the year is up.

That is an extremely confusing article. For example:
I have had the chance to interact with the robot personally and it is honestly the most amazing thing that I have ever seen. I like to think of it like Stephen Hawking because it is extremely smart and you can interact with it naturally, but it is incapable of physically doing much.

That makes it sound like an actual physical entity rather than a software solution. I think what happened is Goog is working on two separate projects and this article combined them.

Majhong
Other than the New York Times article, is there any reason to believe it would be out before the New Year? I would absolutely love an early build, but if it means taking another month to work the kinks out and release a solid product I would prefer that.
Also, Majel's voice would be great but I think I would choose HAL's if I had the option.
This wouldn't rival Siri, it would be significantly different in that it would integrate with our phones and its applications.
Google voice command is sufficient to me. I used Sirius and its the same but Sirius has a personality gimmick.

Siri on the G2x! (...or the closest we're gonna get)

I was playing around the other day with a buddy's iPhone 4S and found Siri phenomenal. And so I have developed a strong desire to have a similar application on Android. After a quick search on the Market, I came across a ****-ton of siri-clones. They all have their pros and cons, but "iris" seems to be my favorite.

Too much money in it for the government not to step in. Some money will be paid from android to apple but that's all that will happen if the patents are upheld.
I would laugh if Apple tries to sue Google for the several things they stole from android. Especially noted the drop down notification bar that I recently saw my girlfriends iPhone has the ability to do.

Why do bad things *apple* happen to good people *Google*.
Apple is pretty stupid to sue Google for what they created and improved. Apple is just a monopolizing S.O.B.
Apple is just a rotten fruit that will decay soon, I hope Google does something about this.
This is nothing new. Although Apple has made strides in their field, they try to kill off any decent competition in their market. They'll patent **** that shouldn't be patented and sue based on that. For example, suing Samsung for using slide to unlock. They're pretty pathetic overall. Apple will never decay, which is both a bad and a good thing. They simply have incredible marketing and brand management. That's why they can release something small like video recording on a brand new piece of hardware, and people will upgrade to it without hesitation.

Nice to see someone gets it. Apple is the largest US company by market cap. Not only the largest but as of right now it's 50% larger than second place(Exxon-Mobile). It's not going anywhere for a very long time. While it's tactics may seem dirty to the public this stuff happens all the time in the business world. That's why we have a patent office in this country. You can hate apple all you want but it won't make them go away. Their business model is second to none and they will continue to grow.
Companies are doing underhanded things in order to obtain an advantage over their competition? Tha-tha-that's not fair! My trust in huge, faceless, multinational corporations is forever shaken!

The same thing I said upthread. Sammi just has to pay out some cash. They're already appealing so it will take another year before the final amount gets hashed out. As it stands now Apple asked for 2.5B in damages and was awarded 1.05B. Android ain't going anywhere. Neither is Apple.

While I am happy that someone is fighting back against Apple, and am defenately on Googles side on that one, I am asking myself where all of these trends are leading.
Instead of being concerned about User satisfaction and service, companies seem to tend more and more towards monopolizing and trying to get features from other devices and applications, instead of just leading onward and trying to get the best product.
I think a little competition goes a long way in increasing development, and history has shown in many cases that certain developments are being made by different parties independantly once their time has come.
In the end I believe that no matter who wins or loses the lawsits, if this trend goes on the way it does, the only one losing out will be the users.
I just see a much brighter future with companies supporting and encouraging eachother, instead of fighting.
After all, theres enough money, users and applications for everyone.

That is what everyone EXCEPT for Apple wanted. But, someone has to fight back. One of the main reasons Samsung lost the case is that they spent most of their time on defense. Ya that's true! I honestly think that the reason why apple had that law suite was because they are scared of android and the popularity of it. Apple wants to be at the top of the market and bringing google down is in there agenda IMO. I just hope that this dosent turn into law suite after law suite, then it would make both companies look bad and nothing would get done. I think google should take on apple and do what they have to do and put an end to this mess

Google doesn't make very much money from Android itself; it's mostly for revenue from the Play Store and the data/advertising that they pull from mobile users.
Google needs excellence in a bottle to get iPhone users to use their apps over Apple Maps and Siri search (which is why the iOS Google Maps looks better than Android).
Give them time; if you haven't noticed they're revamping everything. Gmail, Offers, Currents, Play Store, Google Music; they're finetuning everything. Don't get butthurt so quickly.

Second this! People take everything so personally. Google makes a lot of money off of people using their products on iOS devices. They'd be stupid to provide a less-than-exemplary experience, even in a competing ecosystem.
Google now is still better than the search on the iPhone. But I must say that chrome is a lot better on the iPhone.
