I downloaded dolphin browser HD from the market last night to give it a try. I wanted to see if it would make the browsing even smoother and faster than it already is on frf91, or run flash better or something. I don't notice anything different. I understand that it has a lot of great features like gestures, tabs, add ons that the regular browser doesn't. But as far as just the performance of page loading or scrolling or anything, do you guys see any difference? What do you like about it?
Lol you answered it in your own post.. It's about the extra features it has
Right I was just wondering if people saw a performance increase in certain types of pages or something. Or if anyone was noticing speed increases.
I don't see any improvements whatsoever with speed. For Dolphin, I have a bunch of gestures set up that makes my lift a lot easier by having a shortcut to "select text".
I guess the only other thing that helps is the convenient access to wipe history and cache. You can also set it to private browsing mode so it never remembers history.
I like being able to exit/close the browser
I have noticed a few features that make Dolphin browser great.
First is the UAs (user agent settings) can be set to desktop client always. I hate going to about:debug every single time on the N1 stock browser. The MT3GS has a stock browser with UAs options in the stock settings. Not having that, after already having it in a stock browser is just annoying.
Downloading is much more efficient with Dolphin for me. I have been able to get everything posted on xda through rapidshare and others. If I am about to download something on my computer, I chrome to phone the link, and use dolphin to download it and astro to move it to the root.
Text clarity is much better on Dolphin. This was especially noticeable when reading text sites, like the news.
The flash player is on Demand, which is annoying when your first testing it out, but I have grown to love that feature. Especially when a lot of sites are fattened up with flash advertisements and useless widgets all over the place. News sites are the worst of all. Even when your in an EDGE only zone a news story should load fine, but an animated advertisement loading in the middle of the page will slow you down.
Downside. I can't seem to establish a secure connection when attempting to connect to a website using verisign to verify the secure connection. I don't know if it is the secure connection that isn't working or the verification? I emailed Dolphin, maybe they will tell me.
I use Dolphin primarily, but the great thing about Android is that you can run both of them, or either of them whenever you please. Getting the best of both worlds.
What I like the most is the simple refresh and stop button next to the address bar
I just wish it had a better theme...the theme tries to be too flashy and the additional themes are equally as gaudy...a simple stock browser theme (same tabs and buttons and whatnot but with the stock android theme styling) would be great...oh well.
Just so I know, dolphin browser uses the default webkit browser core, correct? And it just basically is like the default browser with different settings, UI, and "skin" overtop of the default browser.

Only for downloading files that Dolphin Browser seems to not want to download...
Skyfire 2.1 has improved alot. Its fast, the multi touch is better than it was with 2.0, and its flash player works much better than before. I use this when browsing casually (not logging in anywhere.) Love to watch worldstarhiphop videos with it cause flash 10.1 performance sucks on that site.

i use xscope. although i like that dolphin has ability to sync bookmarks
Nope, stopped using Dolphin HD for a couple reasons:
1) It has tabs, which is awesome, but it's a little too complicated to reach them compared to the old dolphin. I liked being able to swipe down to bring down the bar.
2) It's buggy as hell. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it about three times now. Sometimes it doesn't register my clicks, sometimes it brings about the crazy screen problem, and sometimes it just doesn't try to load my pages.
I just wish the stock android browser had tabs implemented.
Xscope has 0 bugs and its fast
The ability for fullscreen mode. That's most important to me as I don't want the notification bar to waste space and to prevent further lcd screen burn in for my N1.
Although that feature is broken in the recent version but a fix is coming.

Fast yes. Zero bugs? No... it doesn't do text reflow on XDA forums properly vs. Dolphin.

I do. Downloaded X-Scope and Dolphin the same day. There was something Dolphin did that I did not like, but can't remember what it was. But it was often enough it annoyed me. Never had an issue with X-Scope
Love xscope lite. Looks great, great features. many people don't know this but you can set up Flash to run automatically vs. "on demand"
I wasn't sure if all the browser improvements on 2.2 were just for the stock browser but doesn't seem anyone has noticed a difference in speed between stock and alternatives.

Not sure what you mean by text reflow, but I set it to "wide" in one of the settings and it made the xda forums look exactly the same as dolphin/stock browser.
Anyone using XSCOPE on the EVO? I have been a big fan of MIREN BROWSER but now found XSCOPE 6. I cant decide which one I like better.. any thoughts?
I think that miren is faster

Well, Ive been playing with both and I cant decide which one is faster on my EVO.. hmmm...
I prefer Xscope on my N1, because some websites (my stupid bank, for example) don't work unless they see "iphone" as the UA string.
Xscope allows you to set specific bookmarks to use a custom UA string, whilst allowing you to leave the default as "Android".

Where do you do this?
I've been defaulting to Miren because I like how it renders pages (particularly how it fits frames/tables and such to fit the screen) vs. XScopes algorithm for doing the same.
On the other hand, Miren's bookmarking system is (in my opinion) seriously in need of an overhaul. First, you have to press the menu button to get the address bar and only then can you press the star icon (for creating a bookmark) and once you do, you have no initial option to name the bookmark! Miren just takes the page title and uses that automatically.
Worse yet, once you have the bookmark and manually change the title, at some point it seems Miren does some kind of auto-update on the names and REVERTS the bookmark names back to the page titles.
Luckily for Miren, I like how it renders pages enough to get passed that bookmark "feature".
If you have not already read the XScope manual in full, be sure to give it a read. It's not lenghty and straight forward.
Once I read that and learned all that XScope can do that I didn't even know about, I didn't want to switch to anything else. But that does not detail things like changing the User Agent of the browser to iPhone or iPad in cases where you might need to do that. It also does not detail how the browser handles video and makes it easy to send an online video into full screen viewing mode. Just long press on the video, a box appears in the left corner, press it and the video is in full screen mode.
Also, take a look into XScope's settings within the app and see if other browsers offer so many options.
To change the browser's Agent setting, just go into Settings and in the "Web page" section there is a "User agent" value that can be changed to "computer", "Android", "iPhone" or "iPad".
To get into Settings, press the circle with a downward triangle in it, then press the icon that looks like a hammer and wrench.
In xscope 6, is there a way to open videos from youtube in the actual YOUTUBE APP? in MIREN, I go to youtube.com, click on a video and it then asks me what I want to complete the action with. I tell it YOUTUBE APP and it formats the video correctly. Any way to do this in XSCOPE?

You Do Realize you've bumped a Thread thats over a Year Old right?
So, I've got my TB and have installed an earlier version of Swype (Evo).
I love that swype works great, except for the auto space with the stock SMS (Handcent FTW).
I've tried Dolphin Mini/HD, FF and Miren. I gotta say that I'm loving Miren, but because Swype auto space doesn't work at all, I'm back to the stock browser.
One of the things I love is being able to just type in search words in the browser bar, but I have having to erase the "http://www." everytime in the stock browser.
For example, if I want to search for "amsterdam", I go to the top, touch the browser bar, and see that everything is highlighted...EXCEPT for the "http://www."
So I need to manually delete/clear out the "http://www.", then go back and swype "amsterdam" to search from the bar.
Is there anyway to have the stock browser take out the "http://www." on the Thunderbolt as a default?
p.s. does Miren support swype auto space...if so, how?
I know what you're talking about and it's really annoying. On the Droid X, the browser would just clear out the whole bar. On the TB, i have forced myself into the habit of pressing the search button in browser when I want to search for something.
I must say I like the HTC browser much more than the Moto one, but the way it fills in http:// is just annoying as all hell.
I noticed that http bug in the stock browser as well. I'm sure it will get addressed soon (pardon the pun derp I couldn't help it.) As far as browsers not auto-spacing that's because those browsers use the address bar both for searching and for URLs, and there's no way for your keyboard know which one you are typing. I've been using opera for a while now, it's super fast since it's the only browser that uses hardware acceleration at this point, plus it has a separate address bar and search bar. Give it a try, you'll probably like it.
I don't think my browser does that. Then again if I'm going to do a search while in the browser I just hit the search button.
with the browser open, just tap the search soft key

I would rather leave it the way it is. I think they actually put a lot of thought into how this works and intended it to be that way. It assumes that if you're tapping the address bar you wanna type an address. How annoying would it be if you had to type the http..... every time. Just use the search button.

I would rather they bloody ask.. IE made options for that crap.
Check out the extra settings in the browser. It might be in there I would check for you but I don't have time. But I can direct you where to look. Go to browser> type in the url about:debug > hit enter or go whichever. It shouldn't do anything to the page but what will happen is if you hit menu> more> settings. It will give you much more edit menus. Give it a try.
Download and instal the aosp browser add on in the teslacoil rom thread, bak in the happiness!
So far I've used a whole bunch of browsers:
Stock Honeycomb
Dolphin HD
Dolphin Tab
Firefox
That browser that starts with M... max something... MX something...
Opera,
and probably some others.
There are pros and cons with them all, and I'm wondering about people's opinions on them.
Here's what I think:
Stock: nice, of course, cause it's stock. Doesn't allow addons, it seems, though. Pretty zippy. The "full screen mode" that has the menu options when you slide your thumb onto the screen on either side is very very cool.
Dolphin HD: I can see why people like it, but I don't like it much myself. Clearly it's not optimized for tablets, which is why I started using Dolphin Tab...
Dolphin Tab: is clearly in beta. Works ok, and has addons, but this doesn't include adblock. Sad.
Firefox: I'm liking it. Definitely needs polish, and the way tabs work is pretty rough, but very nice. Doesn't have built-in user agent switcher, but an addon fixes that. And it has adblock! Yes! This makes it very very good in my eyes. Seems a bit heavy, though, kinda like Firefox on PC.
That M browser thingy: works well, definitely optimized for tablets, but not really my style, and has some rendering issues (it seems to me).
Opera: Very, very, very good. However, not optimized for Tablets. Which is too bad. It has no addons, so no adblock, and no user agent switcher, so all websites give me mobile versions. Very zippy, everything renders well, but Facebook is a little weird.
Actually, I've noticed that Facebook renders best in Firefox, for some reason.

Maxthon Browser.
Iv'e tried them all and i prefer the Maxthon tablet version over all other browsers available.
No rendering issues here.
I love the stock one.
BTW Opera does have agent switcher. Maybe you are trying opera mini? Try Opera mobile, it's a good browser.
Regards.
I've found all of the browsers to be laggy except Opera mobile. You can change the User Agent and you can also block ads using the url filter feature. The major drawback I find with it is that it doesn't have a page down and is scroll only. Almost every other browser allows me to hit the space bar or page down on the dock to advance a page.
I really want to like Firefox for the add ons but I just found it to be to slow to load.
I'm a huge Dolphin fan and have been using it on my phone forever but I found it just does not scroll smoothly at all on my TF.
The slide-out navigation controls make the default browser best, in my opinion. Give them a try - it allows for quick navigation and a more viewable browsing area without being cluttered by the menu bar.
Wow, thanks, Jacorso. I was dumb and using Opera Mini. Derp.
And for those suggesting stock, I like stock as well, too. The slide-in controls are very very neat. I'll be switching between stock and opera mobile, it seems.
i like skyfire and dolphin tab the most just because how fast they are.
I just stick with the stock one since most of the others are just wrappers over it anyway and Firefox is horribly bloated.
i like the stock browser regarding its handling and the look...unfortunately it's really slow and sometimes not reacting to touch...
for now i am quite satisfied with dolphin tab. it is pretty fast and working so far...though i wonder, why there is still no really working browser for tabs by now? it's not like android tabs were available since last week...
Dolphin for Pad and Maxthon for Pad are the only ones other than Stock that I use.
I've just tried maxthon for tablet but I went back immediately to opera mobile... it seems laggy and scrolling is not smooth like in opera... i wish opera had gestures to manage tabs...
I have been using Opera for 4-5 months & have been happy. Not that it doesn't have a few issues but nothing g compared to the stock browser. There is no lag while typing. The XDA search box actually works. These were a couple issues with the stock browser that I couldn't overcome.
im using opera mini, does anyone know how to change mobile facebook to normal facebook like in computer..
Sorry for English.
I like Dolphin HD
I like Dolphin HD
I use Opera and I haven't problem.
Stock, and when ICS comes and is even faster, it will still be the case.
Opera doesn't fully comply with web standards so 5% appear very strange on the tablet.

I use opera since 2 weeks. Im happy with it. Runs very fast and stable.
Stock browser is always the best
i dunno, i use maxthon in combo with stock...
i prefer maxthon tablet version 1.5 (the latest) as it works very nice and fast, but some times it bugs on some downloads o0, and thus i combine it with stock
browser
im a fan of the stock browser however i cant figure out how to set my homepage??
Hey guys,
I bought Swiftkey3 for Tablet, to replace the limited default keyboard. It works great in almost all ways, but when I have the keyboard dock attached, opening up new pages in my browser (chrome, standard browser, firefox) the suggestions stay on the bottom on the screen. It's not the end of the world, but it's pretty annoying.
I can't find any reference to this issue online. Has anyone run into this before?

Absolutely - I've been trying to fix this too!
I've poured over the "Advanced" settings and the rest. This is so annoying as it takes away from the screen real estate - when the text input area has gone away. I really don't think that this is their intended behavior.
Has any other Swiftkey 3 Tablet users figured this out? Please let us know.
Thanks!

I'm on version 3.0.4.343 trial for about a week now. For me the predictions immediately go away when switching from word processor to stock browser, but they "stick" in Chrome. Here they do go away by hitting the back button
I have a fix for you
Install Keyboard Manager form the market and all will be solved! :victory:
