Cwm and flashing issues...... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

so i just picked up a SR from a guy on CL. he had a build of SkyIcs on 4.0.4 on it. how ever he wiped the device before i got it, there are no system sounds on it. so, i started researching some roms to flash to this like my sgs2 and cappy before it. ive read just about all of them. for some reason i cant get it to work. i found the one i like and downloaded akop_skyrocket_build-38. downloaded that along with darkside and 20120429 gapps as outlined in teh list of what to do for that rom. after flashing the darkside, i cant get anything but the darkside wipe to flash. i downloaded ChimeraVsSkyrocket_Beta2 and DJ-ICS-Plus-V2.0 and they all fail to install...... something about install aborted.
i am using cwm v5.8.4.3
upon opening cwm:
ClockworkMod Recoveryv5.8.4.3
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open cache/recovery/last_log
i think i just need to odin to a stock build and start over.......
:end rant:

Mean while.... how cool is jelly bean bro
Chimaira Android 4.0.4 (Beta2)

first of all Q/A forums next time. Second you probably trying to install from external sd, I have the same issue maybe cuz its a cheap fake(I have a normal one on the way) just copy the files to the internal drive.

Have you tried to flash cwm with Odin?

Or flash a stock rom with Odin? That may fix it

Try using TWRP instead of CWM. You might have better luck. And don't bother with the superwipe, it's really unnecessary.

ok. odin back to stock 2.3.5..... off to work. and no the phone wasnt in the water with me.... lol... it was safe and sound charging by the computer

Use one of the touch recovery versions. If that does not work. Start with a fresh Odin ics one click or stock Odin flash of gingerbread. Then root, install recovery, and flash the rom of your choice.

I use the same CWM version and have no problems. I also skipped version 38 and went right to the official version 40. There is a thread here in the general section with the links to the latest AOKP version.

Isn't v5.8.4.3 the new version that can't mount your external sd? Try either v5.8.1.3 or v5.5.0.4.

Since this thread became a Q&A (lol from a rant) I will move there and hope OP gets it resolved.
@OP: Mind changing Tittle for something more descriptive about your problem so everyone else can have better chance using this thread in the future.

Cool thanks. I should have read that. Feeling like a n00b again...... is there a way to get the right one without a PC? I'm at work till late and don't want to wait. If I have to use Odin that's cool. I downloaded the right one to use with Odin 1.85 from the web. The only thing that's weird is, on 2.3.5 since I flashed stock, I can't download anything from the market. I had to resort to evil ways to get the xda app just to post here...... weird indeed....... and the software update says I'm IP to date. Which I know is wrong......

I used the update.zip to root of sd and recovery file move to system/bin overwrite method
after i get into the android recovery and try to re install all packages i get the error
Did you make sure the root explorer app was set to r/w and not r/o? Also you can Odin a kernel and get cwm that way. Its easier imo as well.

now phone says
in the speaker
"convert system partition system is not available"
i think its bricked any solutions
try booting into recovery. Hold power and volumes then release power but continue to hold volumes. Give it a minute. When(if) it boots into recovery, then navigate to the "Voodoo" tab and disable everything.(Click on anything enabled). You will boot up normally then.
Its not bricked. A lot of people went through that. Give me a moment to remember or find the solution. Its been awhile since this issue. One question though. Why not try gingerbread?

Seems your looking to flash a gingerbread rom. If you flash Valhalla while still on froyo your going to have bootloader issues. Fbis251 has a great gingerbread starter kit that you should have a look at. Its in the dev section.

Rainbow recovery and flashing rom

Hey everybody, so I might be posting in the wrong section but since its a question I figured I'd post in the Q&A. So my question is since I still have froyo BL and on CM9 can I still flash another rom even though my recovery has the rainbow effect? In recovery the top 1/3 is rainbow but the rest I can read good. I want to flash revolution rom. And I would Odin or heimdall back to stock and go from there but I have no PC. So yeah would it be safe to wipe all and flash revolution even though I'm on a froyo BL, blue CWM and on CM9?

Yeah, you have had to wait a really long time for an answer. I figured folks were just waiting for you to check out the other threads with the exact same question.
Just messing with you, and you'd really be fine to flash the rom that you want to flash. Your best bet would be to get set up right, though. To get rid of the rainbows, it's not too hard to get Gingerbread bootloaders. Follow the instructions in this post to a "t", including the part in the FAQ about how to get red CWM, and you'll have everything you need for a rainbow free rom flashing experience. It will get you set up on stock Gingerbread with custom recovery. Then you can flash any of the other available roms.:

its broken... so switch. lol I don't see why u would switch back to something that can't correctly flash jellybean ROMs. Someone correct if I'm wrong but I do believe u need twrp to flash aosp based 4.2
How is it broken? And sk8's recovery can flash 4.2 roms correctly that was one of the first questions he was asked in his 4.2 compile thread.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727
This has been resolved in the Nibbles thread.
Recovery was not the problem. There's a bug in the installation process within Nibbles for the Base Install. Custom installation works fine. Check my thread for details.

Read all the stickies you can before doing anything. Vincom has posted a few, read them all, read them till you feel confident you can do this. Once you understand what you are doing, the skyrocket is a really easy phone to work with. I would start with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773659

1 Download the Jellybean Rogers rom from here https://mega.co.nz/#!kNpxDS4Q!J1tf-jp6ppfevvxNMqxsDQAGI48p9Zz0jnfokgeCeXo
2 Wipe DATA/SYSTEM/DALVIK in CWM.
3 Flash tar as PDA in Odin 3, download Odin here http://file.jayceooi.com/2012/05/Odin3-v3.04.zip.
4 Flash old recovery tar as PDA in Odin 3. Link http://d-h.st/Z97 .
5 Flash new recovery zip in old recovery. Link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777970 .
6 Done.
0 (you will have to root this yourself, read the stickies or this whole thread!!!).
For prerooted and improved Rogers JB (get CWM here http://d-h.st/Z97 ) .
1 Download rom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2158262.
2 Download radio of your choice, or don't (radio for above rom https://mega.co.nz/#!FchjUArZ!QPtwwGvt0KPNE9LFkj9lhTObUSZ1MtI-vKeQxdiefU8 ) Flash radio in CWM.
3 Wipe DATA/SYSTEM/DALVIK in CWM.
4 Flash rom then radio from old recovery / new recovery (<--link).
5 Done.
PS. If you use google backup (in settings/accounts) all your phone numbers and most other settings will remain. There are other ways but i don't care about them. ds.
Finally i would like to join the crowd and say READ THE STICKIES. They exist so that you won't have to waste your own time making threads like this.
Good luck :good:
OP, I think you should stay on ics until you can get kies to work. Your going to end up losing everything on your phone at best and bricking it at worst.

Assuming your cwm is up to date just wipe cache and system then flash. But ALWAYS remember to make a backup first.
On a side note, ever use twrp?

Ummm, its a little more complicated than Flashing.Lol
You are reverting system files and such. Grab you a STOCK image from Sammobile than flash in Odin following the steps outlined in konanes thread in the dev section. Don't ever flash backwards between versions of android in cwm, you'll soft brick your phone. Bad advice ^^^^dude
