[Q] Can I unlock my phone on 1.85 stock? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I am interested in flashing cleanrom 3.1 but i was reading through the comments and I noticed people saying, too bad i'm on 1.85, and comments of the sort, it seems as if having 1.85 pre-unlock is a curse?
I have never done anything to this phone, it came 1.85 from the store.
I'm not new to this stuff, I'm just over cautious with my HOX because I'm out of warranty and I've never unlocked or rooted an HTC phone.
I apologize if this has already been said elsewhere.

HELLO!!!! WELCOME!!!!
Hi there , yes it's been answered already , and well if you did some searching.. well BAM, there it would have been... Yes you can unlock 1.85 , check the dev thread for the way It even says 1.85 root .. how bout that? Haha, remember to search , because there are people out there whom may be worse than I ... Happy tinkering

You're a gentleman and a scholar, thanks for being friendly. However, I have been unable to find a thread to unlock 1.85. I would never post without searching.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium.

It's a sticky on the Dev site: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709424
The Compilation thread is also a good place to take a look, but you can install CleanROM with just root and unlock (instructions for both are in the link).

Can someone please a YouTube video on how to root unlock downloader and s-off I have tried very thing and have had no luck this is my first HTC I mainly have had Samsung so if someone can point me in the direction I will hit the thank you button thanks in advance

There are threads in the dev section with all the info you need. I suggest you spend a lot of time actually reading them and build a real understanding for what you are doing BEFORE you do anything to your phone. If you just follow some guy's youtube video without actually knowing what you're doing, guaranteed your next thread will be "ZOMG SOMEONE PLEASE HELP I THINK I BRICKED MY PHONE".
With Samsung it was just use Odin and that was it you make a very good point and on that I will do some more research thanks again for the advice

Yeah samsungs are generally easier to root. Odin made it a cinch. That was one of the things I loved about my Epic 4G Touch. We do have one click methods for root and bootloader unlock though so it's pretty damn easy. Once you read the threads you'll see it's not that bad. The root thread is a sticky and bootloader unlock is on the first page of the dev section.
Edit: I have not used the one click bootloader unlock on the first page so I can't vouch for it. It is new and looks like nobody has used it yet. The one I used is HERE, it's a one click that changes your CID to allow you to unlock through htcdev.com. I have used that method 6 times and practically everyone on this forum used it so that is the method that I will vouch for. The stickied root thread is also tried and tested.

New One X owner, best root method currently?

Hi guys, I know there are a lot of posts surrounding this topic, I did search but found many outdated methods so I am curious about the most up to date method.
I am using a one X that is one HTC SDK 4.11 build number 1.85 and software 1.85
Being an iphone jailbrake guy Im not sure which one matters most. Also, Im not sure about changing the bootloader as opposed to just rooting. If I change the bootlaoder am i essentialy unocking the carrier of the phone also?
So what is the currently method to rooting the One X, thank you so much, this is a very helpful forum.
Duck
Either the manual method or the 1.85 One Click by Beups and designgears
I'd imagine the STICKIED thread in development would be your best bet. You know, the one that says it's for 1.85.

Ahh sorry, didnt get to that forum yet, thanks! Question though, is the exploit for bootloader still up and running or should I just stick with rooting for now?

Hi guys,
Ok, being new cant post in the devs forum yet so have to post this follow-up here. So I wasn't paying attention and accidentally updated before reading the news about 2.20 here. I know I cant root now however here is my question:
If I exchange One X for replacement tomorrow that is on 1.85 is it still going to work as long as i avoid any OTA updates OR will it require an update during the process like ive read. I think Ive read that it can be interrupted but am not sure.
Thank You

As long as the phone is on 1.85 you can still use the method to gain root and unlock the bootloader.

Stupid question from a total noob

Hi there,
I'm coming from the iPhone 4, and I got my 1st Android phone last summer, HTC One S
I got it from Fido (canada)
Since I dont have enough posts, I was told to ask dev-related questions here
I want to root my phone with the All in One toolkit, but I'm not sure if ti works with the Fido HTC One S
Thanks in advance
You should of been told to post questions in the q&a section since that means questions & answers.
And future reference never post an individual question the the dev section unless you are asking in an already established rom or dev thread.
As far as wanting to root, I can't help you there as I no longer see the point in rooting since ics

I have a Fido One S and I rooted/unlocked my phone using the toolkit, you should be good to go.
Don't let the toolkit do everything for you, otherwise when something goes wrong you won't have a single clue. Get fastboot running and learn how to send commands and unlock the bootloader through fastboot.

I agree with usaff22. Doing the modifications manually is better.
It's OK to root your One S. The rooting process has nothing to do with the carrier. For example, my One S was locked to 3 UK and I rooted without problems. Good luck!

Help me please HTC One x Dead

Hi I have a OX AT&T. I followed a tutorial yesterday. will install the recovery and achieve all good .. after the wipes and install the rom .. when I did reboot. is to become the cel off. no LED light or charge or anything I read you had to let him connected all night and nothing ..
Now the creator of the tutorial said that was only for international HTC and not for at&t.
someone please help me with my phone. I was only 3 days with my new phone and this happens to me :crying:
If you flashed a international ROM , I'm pretty sure that bricks your phone.
You may be out of luck.

More specific details if you want to have any chance of getting any useful help at this point.
Firmware, hboot, what recovery you flashed what Rom you flashed ect..etc...
Chances are you have a paperweight but at least it looks good

Press and hold power button w. Pointer finger, grasping width of the phone with thumb and remaining fingers. Sling hand over shoulder with high rate of velocity, releasing power button and thumb when parallel with line of sight. Rotate body 180 degrees, don't ever look back.

It's the One XL firmware number. If you were on the most recent version, 2.20, there is no current fix for your predicament. If you were on anything earlier, you may be able to unbrick using the method in the Unbricking Evita thread.
If he had an att one x and it was 4.03 it has to be lower than 2.20 the 4.04 update came with 2.20
You could always try claiming you took one of their ota's and it killed the phone. Did that to sprint and got free replacement.

No need for hostility. I have seen literally hundreds of posts claiming the same thing. If I did break any actual rule I'm sorry. But you don't need to approach people like that. I was just trying to help the guy out instead of giving him crap like some of the others. And until you posted that I was on my way out. So now I bid you farewell

[Q] Will I brick my One s if i do the update?

Hello everyone, iv been a long spectator on XDA for a long time, previously owning many android devices. I think the ONE S is my favourite of all. So i decided to post something to ask you guys. Anyways I own a ONE S from Canada, its the S4 version. I rooted it with this method here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427
Because the phone was carrier locked , i went to unlock it with this method : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1693491 (method2)
Im on stock ICS rom still and everything is going good so far and i recieved notification for JB update. So my question is can i proceed with the OTA update , or do i need to do something first? And will my phone be carrier sim-locked again if i do the update?
Iv heard many stories of bricked phones after OTA update here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065127.. im just scared
Thanks guys.
btw, CID getter is telling me ROGER001, but im using it on WIND network right now)

Not 100% sure, but I think most of the stories from bricked phones after update relate to those who had SuperCID their phone, (ie CID w 1111111). Im not sure if it will relock your SIM, but it really shouldnt, since the partition related to the sim unlock shouldnt get flashed.
But its always your own choice whether to update or not. If you want JellyBean stock then update. You may also end up with a newer radio (better reception), newer wifi, etc and other upgrades. Indeed, with a low hboot you can always upgrade those things anyways, so there is more than one way to get what you want. But if it aint broke, nobody is going to tell you to fix it. Your likely fine to update, but theres no guaruntees in life!
You may have to re root your phone afterwards.
Thanks for replying. I wish more people can tell me with more concrete answers. ... I wonder using the root method I mentioned above gives me superCID. Then I would know if I could proceed or not.
Sent from my HTC One S using xda app-developers app
Rooting in and of itself would not give you SuperCID. You would have to specifically hex edit some partitions yourself to change your CID

can you please save the downloaded update zip file from rogers before flashing/updating? and post-it somewhere so other can get it?
will help lot of people
on topic now: because you're rooted and unlocked, it is unlikely the phone will execute the update; however it will download the file, so you will found it on sdcard partition
I promise ill upload it tomorrow, And yes it didnt execute the update...it just went into recovery and gave me an error. Im guessing its because im using a custom recovery. So i guess i have to be on stock rom , stock recovery and unrooted. Trying to look for a guide now
