Help: This build is for development purposes - HTC One S

The bootloader was unlocked and everything goes fine, but when i have tried to install all recoverys appearing here, I get a screen displaying that: this build is for development purpuses only do not distribute outside htc failure to comply may lead to legal action, and my One S stuck, I have to volume keys and power key to restart it. So that i can not go into any recoveries. Many thanks to you who can help.

Sounds like you relocked the bootloader possibly ...? What does the bootloader say TAMPERED N UNLOCKED? IF. it says that try n flash recovery again.. its important to leave it unlocked ..
And oh for future reference please post in proper section .. this section is for development ..

The bootloader remains unlocked without TAMPERED, and I have flashed several recovery, thanks anyway.

Have you been able to get into recovery at all?
I believe TAMPERED only shows up once you flash a recovery/rom or anything. Make sure you are flashing the recovery the right way, use Hasoon's tool.

most likely that you've got a One-S with S3 Chip.
boot into Bootloader mode and see what's on screen. If your screen is showing
*** UNLOCKED ***
VILLEC2 PVT SHIP S-ON RL
then welcome aboard. You've got a S3 Chip.
Currently there's no known working recovery for One S with S3 yet. Stay tuned for more updates.

I have the "This build is for development purposes" on my splash screen as well. I also had issues installing any recovery other than the "interim" recovery or something like that. It was the only recovery that would install after unlocking the bootloader. Once it was installed, I was able to install CWM then the CWM touch and finally TWRP.
If you do not have the S3 CPU and you haven't tried the interim recovery, give that a shot. Sorry but I do not remember where I found the interim recovery though.

The locked bit at the top is the official HTC locking/unlocking message. If you go through the HTC website to unlock the boot loader it'll then say 'unlocked'
The S-OFF means 1 of two things:
1. You have a device S-OFF from the factory, or;
2. Someone returned it after unrooting and didn't S-ON the device again

So i guess i'm good to install cwm and flash away?
edit: all sorted now
I have same issue as OP, but my H-BOOT's 1.27.0000
I can't flash **** through Fast boot, says not allowed -_-
I managed to get S-OFF via Rev, worked flawlessly gained root and did the downloading CWM, flashed Virtuous Inquisition and successfully got the on screen buttons working via decompiling-editing recompiling the framework-res.apk.
But I am utterly clueless as to why today, I find the ***Revolutionary*** has been replaced with ***Locked***
Anything I gotta do? Or just leave it?

It just means that your bootloader is the locked variety so you can't do some extended fastboot commands such as 'fastboot flash splash1 nameofimg.img' to replace the splash screen and a few other less common commands. I wouldn't worry about it. If you want to replace the splash image, check here.
Look in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
You'll find an unlocked version of 1.27.1100 (3.24 Unlocked). It was unlocked by one of the Revolutionary team as far as I know.

Whatever I see from ur information I suggest you to get ur bootloader unlocked by HTC devs. Reason is u got second hand mobile so anyway you don't have warranty. Other thing check is it super cid If not get it done then start flashing. You will have less problem and if you stuck will get quick resolution.

[Q] HTC Jetstream S-off failed

Hi,
I followed the steps and procedure on htcdev.com and the process to get the HTC rooted as given by DoomLord, but while trying to get it s-off, going into the bootloader, it shows unlocked, but still gives s-on. Is that a problem? Any way to rectify this?
Also, in the process, somewhere down the line, the pen useablity has disappeared and am unable to use the pen. Tried factory settings and restore from bootloader, but no use-I use the pen feature heavily. So any way of getting it back?
Please help
Thanks in advance.

I sort of understood that but on the bootloader, it still shows s-on rl. so was thinking if that was any problem or if it could just be ignored. this is my 1st android device so kind of new at things.
in any case, the pen glitch got solved-turns out that there was some new setting unlocked which had to be tweaked to make it work-hadn't done it with the new device.
Thanks anyways for the help..

No, it cannot be ignored (in most if not all cases). It probably is a problem, but if you tried again and it still results like that (or it tells you that you already have S-OFF), then you can continue the rooting process (hopefully it will work, but it would be strange).

There have been many people with the same issue. Please do some research, educate.
All that means is fastboot commands aren't going to work, most people rarely use them so you'll be fine.
Oke thanks, but do you know what i need to do to get it fixed?
(for my education)
Well you can flash a new update with the revolutionary bootloader. Kohr-Ah has a tidy selection with everything you could need located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
Head over to the second post and find the section that matches your carrier/CID. Download the 3.24 Unlocked version for your CID and put it on the root of your SD. Now, reboot your phone while holding volume down. The bootloader will detect the PG58IMG file and ask if you want to perform the update. Hit volume up, and it'll update a few things. Then, it'll reboot back into the new bootloader and update the rest. After that, make sure you have an ICS based rom (preferably one built from the 3.24 base, and you're all set. Be sure to delete the PG58IMG after updating, because the bootloader will pick it up every time and refuse to do anything else until it's gone.
Edit: However, I forgot to mention, it really depends on what you mean by "fixed", because you can currently run any rom and do most anything even with a locked bootloader. However, since it is a ten minute fix, I suppose it's worth doing.

You dont need to fix it you r soff so u can flash any Rom. If you want to unlock bootloader then u can get it done by htcdev.

This build is for development purposes only
Do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's written premission.
Failure to comply may lead to legal action.
After about 30 seconds the phone reboots.
I received the phone unlocked, but did the rooting myself with help from threads on xda developers. It seems it all went well, when I access RootChecker, it is a success and I have access to Root.
I want to flash custom roms but am not able too!
Please, help me figure out what is wrong with my phone not being able to boot into recovery!
I really, really, need help on this issue!
Did I do something wrong and if so what did I do?! I followed everything about adb and using the cmd on windows. Please help me!
Thank you anyone for any type of information you might be able to give me, I want everyone to know I really appreciate it!
Thank you so much!

you should probably update your recovery http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/99
in bootloader run these commands from the pc
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.0-evita.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
then on the phone try to get the phone to go into recovery. older recoveries had a hard time getting into recovery from bootloader.
if that doesn't work boot into your regular rom and run "adb reboot recovery" make sure usb debugging is turned on.
the website says "You must be S-OFF or have taken HTC's unlock to use a recovery on your device!"
I do not have a S-OFF device. Is it impossible to go into recovery? Should I try this method regardless?

[Q] Which model is my HTC one xl?

Hi,
I am new to the rooting scene(translate: I don't know ****) and I saw that there are different methods of rooting for different versions of Htc one xl. How do I know which is my version?
Here is my info according to Antutu benchmarking app:
brand: htc_asia_wwe
model: htc one xl
os: 4.2.2
I don't know whether this is telstra or at&t or something else. Can anyone help me and if possible, link me to appropriate guide to root my phone?
Thanks
If it is the AT&T version, it would actually have the AT&T logo on the front of the phone, near the top.
Any other variant except AT&T, just unlock the bootloader at htcdev.com , install a custom recovery, then flash SU or a rooted ROM to get root.

Power your phone off, once it's off hold the volume down button then hold the power button so you're holding them together. After a few seconds let go of the power button but keep holding the volume down button until you reach the white screen with text. This is your bootloader, post the first four lines here.

Done!!!
Bootloader says UNLOCKED now! What's the next step?
You'll want to flash a custom recovery. TWRP is the most common one used for our phone I believe. You can find it in our phones android development section.
Download TWRP 2.6 from here. Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(the exact filename, minus the talking marks)
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can enter recovery on your phone and install a custom ROM.

Yes as long as you stay within this forum you'll be fine. I can't answer the other question because best/most stable/favourite ROM questions are against the rules. Each user will experience each ROM differently anyway because each user will use them differently. The correct answer to the question is to look up a few and see which ones might suit you, flash them and you'll find out pretty quickly which ROM(s) will suit you best. Flashing new/different ROMs is half the fun anyway.
