Is this normal? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My single core Xperia play is pretty much on par in terms of internet speed compared to this quad core tegra 3 tablet and it sometimes even loads slightly faster on my xperia play. Why is this and is it normal behaviour? They are both still fast but i would expect my tablet to kinda smoke my xperia play.
Thanks

The firmware is probably not even close to finished yet (ie there are various bugs who will be fixed either by Asus or the community (us)).
You can try browser2ram ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25286407#post25286407 ) and see if it makes a big difference (it should).
Note that your browser history and settings may not (as in maybe) be saved while in a browser session with browser2ram installed (if your tablet crashes and/or you use a task killer and reboot/power down and/or other stuff).
(I haven't tried it, btw. I will when I get the urge)

I'm unrooted on both devices so can't use browser2ram. Thanks for the suggestion though

Other simple reasons for your differences are......You are comparing smaller screen with larger screen ...page rendering will be different size 50 KB vs 150 KB etc..similarly web browser may be different ...opera mobile (which renders pages faster) on phone vs stock browser on tab etc..
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app

I think it pretty much comes down to internet speed being the bottleneck. I think both devices have pretty good wi-fi chips and can browse at same speeds, but rendering on the phone would be less resource intensive since its a smaller screen and all..

Browser

Is it just me or does the ICS browser suck?
I installed chrome, but it has the same issue where it takes awhile for it to be responsive.
ICS+ browser is a bit better, but not leaps and bounds.
Dolphin is ok, certainly better than above. Still doesn't feel very responsive or fluid though.
Is there any decent tablet browser available?

I'm having no love with the browser. Feels like browsing on a 56k modem using some ancient linux distro. I tried all of them, with Maxthon being the fastest. Unfortunately Maxthon became unstable within a day.
The browser is turning into a dealbreaker. Maybe my expectations were too high.
please tell me that they fix this!! a quadcore and browser cant run smooth?!?
i'm using chrome and dolphin HD and it seems to be working fine. why would you all use stock browser anyways?
From what i've read, the browser is handled using the Tegra 3's "companion core."
Because it's clocked at such a slow speed, it has some lag.
I have been using Dolphin on both my TF300 and TF101. I really can't tell any difference in the time is takes to load a page on both tablets.
I have tried other browsers but keep coming back to Dolphin.

i just miss not having no-script and adblock. firefox does have adblock for their mobile browser but firefox runs so slow on this tablet for me.
Totally disappointing experience. Browsing is a nightmare on my tf300t device. it's slightly better than tegra 2 devices (acer a500 and asus tf100), however still not ready for prime time.

Stock browser is definitely sluggish. Downloaded Dolphin Browser for the first time and it works great, no issues here.
After testing just about every browser available, I have found that Dolphin and ICS Browser+ are the best options for me.
There is still an occasional lag when loading a new page where all input is ignored for upto 3+ seconds.
Flash in dolphin plays fine, but you cannot go full screen, then it crashes.
I and many others have same problem on prime (tf201)
and the whole tab isjust freaking slow.
I believe it's definitely asus crapware and maybe bad tegra3 optimization from asus.
as far as I know, htc one x (also tegra3) runs browsers just fine.
hell, my amaze 4g (dualcore s3 snapdragon) is just flying on ICS... while prime is dragging its tail
I'm freaking disappointed with asus... I really thought this will be my mobile workhores... but ist a piece of crap
Opera mobile runs flawless for me. My prime performance is great. no lag at all. UI super fluid & browser scrolling super fluid. I can't speak for some but me along with others have primes that work great.
Browser issues and other things are very well documented across majority of different devices on ICS. so not an Asus specific issue.
don't believe the hype. lol
I use the Chrome beta. Turn off page preloading and it runs fairly smooth. I'll give Opera Mobile a try later on, though; I like Opera on my desktop.
Just ran my TF300 through Vellamo. It scored pretty much exactly where you'd expect: slightly worse than the Prime, but better than most anything else. So, if a web benchmark is saying our device is great on the web... the issue must lie somewhere else, e.g. slow cache speeds (hypothetical idea)
I like Dolphin, but it occasionally crashes when I have multiple tabs open. However, when you reopen Dolphin, it forgets all the tabs that you had open just before the crash. Is there any way to fix that?
Mx browser no problems at all.....

am using opera next, very fast and stable,
I have the tweak script and am oc @1.5 ghz
but still on 1 ghz and 1.2 it goes fast.
stock browser is good too thou...
I've installed dolphin and it works great, only thing I'm missingis is search on the site. If it's a big site I would like to search on a word on it! Someone knows how o do it on dolphins??

Getting Low Benchmark Scores on the newest firmware (7/27)

Edit:: Solved
Hi guys, I am getting some horrible benchmarking scores using Antutu and Quadrant. I noticed that the scores on Quadrant are much lower when I have my SDcard inserted but generally low. The tablet doesn't feel slow but of course I don't know how it should feel. I do know its faster than my old galaxy tab 8.9.
The first Quadrant score is with my SDcard inserted, its a 64GB UHS-1 Sandisk
The second quadrant score is with the card out definitely an improvement. Both tests were run on performance mode.
The antutu score was pretty much between 5k and 7k shouldn't I be around 12k?.
I have tried many many cold boots. Anyone have any ideas or did I get stuck with a lemon? I honestly didn't run any benchmarks before installing today's update. Please help!!!
EDIT: : Solved - Apparently enabling force 2d gpu rendering in dev options causes a HUGE hit on system performance outside of 3d applications.

Yea, am doing that now
So, I was backing up files when I thought to try something. I had Force 2D GPU rendering turned on under developer's options because it helped with netflix rendering as it was crawling along. I turned force gpu rendering off and ran the tests again. This time I got an antutu score I could actually be proud of And hopefully I won't have to do a wipe. If you have a second, would you be able to test this?

I got a Antutu score of 13k. Yup... I'm a proud owner ....
yes scores are terrible with that option on
ya. i just double checked too. It seems like that option gives a huge hit on system performance with no real gain. Netflix is running a little slower with it off but its not worth the hit on performance. Thanks for the help.

Force rendering through GPU instead of CPU in older apps that don't have this function implemented.

[Q] quadrant score

Hi, I am getting extremely low quadrant score. I am on stock rom but I think it wont affect score that much. So is this only my problem ?
(extremely low for what it should be, like 3500+ I think )
Edit: Antutu score is 7945
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app
That's quite low. I'm running stock rom and getting 4592 without any tweaks.
I guess you could try stopping all running apps with something like the ASUS task manager, then give it another go.
Also turning off Force GPU Rendering in Developer Options helped a lot for the score as well.

Is overclocking worth it?

Ok so I'm a bit new to the community in terms of tablet hardware and wanted to understand the concept of overclocking now from what I've heard the Asus tf300t has the capability to be increased to 1.5ghz it's stock is 1.3 I believe so my question is:
what are the basic benefits of overclocking.
How do you go about doing it? (app, or what not)
What damages can be done if done incorrectly. (boot loop or brick)
If this isn't the right place to post this direct me to someplace better please! Thank you!

You'll need to flash another Kernal. There are various guides on this forum depending on what firmware you're on
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.
Benefit is basically making your tablet faster and smother under heavy tasks such as gaming. Light tasks wont be affected much.
In order to over clock, you need custom kernel and a software that allows you to over clock or under clock. My favorite is set CPU which is paid ( there are tons of CPU app)
If you over clock too much, tablet will become very unstable and also CPU can overheat much easier which can lead to hardware failure. I recommend you to overclock up to 1.6 max if you ever gonna over clock.

I second this when playing games. I do also see a very slight difference in normal day to day use. Just dont overvolt, that i heard is bad for the chip and greatly shortens the length of the chip. Overclocking isnt as bad for it.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using Tapatalk 2
Ah ok so you do need a custom kernel/rom in order to gain access to overclocking. Well I've had problems before with flashing custom roms(soft bricked) and I'm kinda hesitant about it but I mean I've ran emulation on 1.3ghz and it runs smooth like for epsxe. I guess it's a matter of preference really?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
I think that it is worth to unlock if you use a 1tb hard disk. It is more useful to overlock GPU as it will boost your perfomance in UI and games.

Overclock improved my tablet experience
When I was running cleanrom 3.4.1 and Unters TF300T 10.4.4.25 Kernel I had it O/C'ed to 1.6.
The ui and games like beach buggy blitz , dead trigger ran noticeably smoother .
Now I'm bac on stock android 4.2.1 from Asus website its nowhere near as smooth probably not even as smooth as stock 4.1.2 imo.
ya im on cm10.1 at the moment. over clocked to 1.6ghz currently. i find whether it was clean rom 3.4.4 or cm10.1 1.6ghz seems to be my tablets sweet spot. with my tablet and dock together on cm10.1 i have lasted like 4 days unplugged laying around with daily use for alittle bit. grand theft auto final fantasy dead trigger. all play so smooth.
Tergrak over clock let's you over clock any ROM, you don't need a custom ROM or kernel just root. Its on the play store.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
+1 for overclocking. You can run the tablet at the lower speeds to save the battery when just messing around but you have the option to turn it up when needed. I overclock every device I own if possible. :good:

The only time clock my TF300 is I am gaming. Very smooth and fast!:good:

Disappointing performance.

So I have the US version and I've had it for a while (about a month) and I'm really disappointed with the performance. Scroll lags, the notification shade pulls down smoother on a galaxy player (that has less than 500mb of ram and is single core) and the 3d gaming performance is laggy. Like GTA3 should be able to run on max settings! Just disappointed and expected more.

Try flashing Cyanogen Mod from the original android section. General ui is much snappier and it doesn't have game lag like all the 4.1.2 TW ROMs.
Samsung really dropped the ball with the 4.1.2 updates. A phone this powerful should not lag playing temple run.

Are you running it stock? Phone runs great with custom stock ROMs & Kernals, but everyone has their own opinions. The games i've played ive not have any lag, but i'm running a custom kernal and ROM. That probably has is the difference, but i'm not overclocked.
well there's only two things that are certain in this world.... no tech device is ever perfect and taxes always increase.
If you expect anything different you will always be disappointed.
That being said, I had ANdroid phones since the HTC Eris and they keep improving. S3 is really nice, maybe the best of this generation, but its not perfect.
Lots of people are looking for infinite gaming speed + infinite battery life... well the two don't go together. There are always trade-off. speed vs. power, vs. size, vs. cost.
Oh and by the way, multi-core is mostly a marketing gimmick. The GPU does most of the graphics work and most apps are not multi-threaded, so a fast single core beats a slower multi-core every time. It's cheaper to make a slow multi-core processor than to make a faster single core.
I also noticed lag on the device which i put off was caused by Touch Wiz. I confirmed this when i finally rooted and started trying different ROMs.
The lag is there in all TW ROM's for me; however if you really want to stick with TW, the smoothest running TW ROM I've tried so far is Goodness. That is what i'm currently using. I don't experience lag during gaming or Apps though even with touch wiz... so might be just your phone.
However, if you can do without touchwiz, the AOSP ROMs are like butter and i experience no lag at all. At least the 4.2.2 ROMS. I've tried Liquidsmooth, paranoid android, Pac-man and Chameleon.
Crazy I'm 100 % stock and my phone runs awesome! I don't do much gaming so I can't chime in on that but I don't have lag at all like you describe. Do you have a live wallpaper installed??
Sent from my GeeEssThree
I've tried a lot of the TW based ROM, Synergy, Hyperdrive , others and all the well developed one's run great for me. I don't see any lag. I also tried CM10 and no noticeable difference, I think a lot of the comment are caused by placebo effec, some people just hate OEM stufft. Also people will load up their home screens with 3000 widgets and say wow this phone / rom sucks, LOL m Then they load some new ROM with no widgets yet and go, wow this is really smooth....... until they load 3000 widgets and it sucks again. Hey , there really is a limit to performance on any phone.
