Nexus Q Stream from PC? - Android General

Hey,
I know the announcement of the Nexus Q is quite new so I'm not really expecting an answer but I'm hoping there will be a way to stream the content from my PC to the Nexus Q. Only then will I be interested in buying one.
I already have lots of digital version of my movies and music, I dont want to have to stream from the cloud only.
On another note, It would be absolutely perfect is you could sign up with google play to stream live sports in HD. This would eliminate the need for the over priced telecom companies that are outdated and I hate (referring to Rogers and Bell in Canada).
Anyway I'm pretty excited to see what this thing can do

Good post. No reply.
I would love to know. Not really into being dependent on uploading everything to the cloud.

SlingPlayer Mobile now available for Android

One of the last items that I missed from the conversion from WM was a slingmedia player.
It was released today (tonight actually).
Of course, I have the older slingplayer (AV model) which is not 100% supported, but it is good enough until my new Solo arrives.
Even using an older not quite supported slingbox, the player is much much easier to use than the WM ever was.
SlingPlayer For Android
Awesome
I have used Slingplayer mobile on WM and iPhone and the Android flavor is by far the best. The integration that they have built in to allow easy use of all of the functionality you would have right in your own living room. Good Work Sling!
The site says sling classic not officially supported but may work. Is this app still have the 24hr return policy as the rest of the app store. I don't want to waste $30.

I downloaded it last night to test it with my Slingbox AV (older "unsupported" model) on my rooted Incredible. It works, for anyone who was wondering. Over EvDO rA, the picture was good, but the audio was kind of choppy. Some people have guessed that the buffering is handled differently in the new version, which might explain the audio issue. One thing that's completely different in the Android version (I came from WM too) is that there is no way to adjust the streaming settings (or even view the statistics for that matter). I'm going to dig into the config files a little and see if anything can be manually tweaked.
So, for anyone who's wondering... the Android version of SlingPlayer WILL work with a Slingbox AV, but it's not necessarily great.
I am using the slingbox AV myself until the Solo shows up. I got pretty good results last night on EVDO rev/A. After changing channels it would settle down pretty quickly.
On WiFi it work much better of course...
The method of changing and selecting channels is much easier than the WM verison. Even accessing some of the more obscure buttons is easy with this interface.
some of the features don't work with the older slingbox, but I didn't find anything that I had to have that I could not do with it.
I bought it. It is ok but not worth the $30 so I uninstalled. I better get my refund.
Man, figures is would be now that I'm w/o cable. I'm moving in a week.

Download Sling Mobile from xxxx
I have Slingbox Av which seems to work pretty good with this mobile App. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that could save them lots of money. I subscribe to a website called xxxx. They have lots of paid apps that you can download right to your phone. Anyway for $10 a year you can download as many paid apps as you want. They just updated there listing last night and Slingplayer is available to download. Its alot cheaper to get it from xxxx and you get lots of other paid apps to go along with it.

Which is the same a stealing since they are not legal copies of the apps and the original authors are not paid for their work, time and expense of publishing and development.
Probably true about that website so then just go torrent it for free if you don't care about paying for it. The news had a story about movie sites like that which are run by organized crime and the movie studios are mad. Personally I think sling is doing it to themselves by charging too much and also making winmo converts pay again for the same app, along with dropping support for the sling classic customers. They are getting greedy and people are revolting.

Greedy?
I suppose they have developers that work for free on a project that has taken more than a year to complete. Do you work for free? I don't.
The droid version of the player is significantly better than the WinMo version ever was and much more usable. Many of the operations work just fine with Slingbox AV even though it is not fully supported.
As for dropping support for older technologies, gee time does move on. It is not that uncommon that new technologies come along that no longer support older hardware. It happens.. And it is not like they have not been talking about new technologies not supporting the older boxes now for years.
They do provide an upgrade discount for registered users of the older boxes to get newer ones. If they were greedy they would not offer that.
If their users think the price is too high, they won't buy. If sales are slow Slingmedia will do what most companies do when products are not moving.
Promoting theft is not cool, whether using a torrent or a hack site. Saying it is okay because the a product is overpriced is not an excuse.
Should I go sit in time out now for voicing my opinion of a greedy company.
What if MS made you buy office 2010 because you have win7 but Vista users could still use office 2007? I bought a license and am not buying another.

All opinions aside, XDA does not allow discussion of warez on it's boards.
I have removed the name of the offending site from the above post and quote.

What do YOU primarily use your G Tablet for?

Just wanted to know what everyone uses theirs for/plans to use theirs for, so maybe we could share ideas and whatnot.
Personally, I use mine for a few reasons.
The first being is that I'm into photography, and while it's nice to have a physical portfolio to walk around with, I like having a digital one to carry around as well. I also use photoshop mobile sometimes to quickly edit photos on the fly to show to people as I'm taking them.
Another reason is for baseball uses of which I have a few. I can keep score on it using iScore, which is a REALLY nice analysis program. I also plan on using it for MLB At Bat where I can watch games live with my MLB.tv account.
I also use it for the widgets. I have it set up as a digital photo frame at work, but my boss thinks it's a great idea to allow me to have the widgets open which show me the scores of my favorite teams, what people are doing on facebook, the news, etc. That way, I'm not wasting time browsing the web while at work, and I can glance over and find out what I want to know. It's also nice to use as a digital photo frame.
And, of course, I use it as a portable media player.
What do you guys use yours for?
My gtab is my primary device for internet browsing when I'm at home. I let my family use the desktop when all I want to do is go on the internet. I stream a lot of video with my gtab. I also use it for casual gaming and emulators like n64, snes and gba. My gtab is great for long road trips too. It keeps the kids at ease and off my nerves. its a portable entertainment device which pretty much replaced my indash dvd player and headrest monitors. I mean I still have them installed in my car but my kids hardly use it anymore because they rather watch the movies I have on my thumbdrive or play snes, psx,gba with a wiimote.
Browsing forums, news sites and looking up IMDB and Wikipedia while watching telly.
Also for keeping up with work email and Gmail when away from my PC. And occasionally reading twitter.
One day I'll get around to trying out video

Just a suggestion for the new members of the gtablet forum, before you start a new thread, please try the search feature and you would probably discover two things
1) how bad the search is - sorry to say it, it is true that it is hard to find the right info..
2) how much other info you can find.
Good luck and welcome to the club!

Jan 4th was the last post!?!??! that was deep in the bowels of the threads huh? I'm sure we have room on the forums to have another "what do you use your "insert device here"" thread lol
10 people probably had the gtab 3 months ago. Now we have 10,000+ new ones coming lol
I doubt all 10,000 units sold will turn into 10,000 new board members. I'd guess a third of that can be arsed to join, fewer still will have the courage to try the new ROMs.
Personally, I intend to do a lot of reading before I post a bunch of n00b threads about Y CANT I PLAY ASTEROIDZ?? or whatever.

What's the board culture concerning the resurrecting of zombie threads? I know some boards frown on it, some boards have an "age limit" (few months, usually) and some boards don't care.
My tablet I strictly a casual device!!!!fun and surf!!!!
web browsing around the house..email..some gaming...movies in the car on the road. beyond that they are somewhat limited. I really can't understand the rush to spend $800 on a newer model that basically does the same thing.
At least its driving down the price on g tablets so i will probably grab a second soon!

I am not saying you cannot start a new thread, I am saying that there are many good info you can find from the old threads. In some cases, you may find something interesting.. We are getting more people now, and in last weeks, I am seeing a lot of new threads/questions. Good info/discussion/threads are quickly buried deep unless they are sticky. Roebeet or other senior members of the forum are trying hard to info the new members..

Thanks for asking, as a business tool, a digital dashboard. The quickest way to access my c-panel, website, surf the web and respond to communications.
I use mine to carry invoices, data and software for my computer repair business when I'm on the road. I also use it as a car audio Bluetooth stream device directly to my amps. As well a the obvious to keep up on forums, Facebook and surf. And of course to just root and ROM...
Sent from my G-Tab using Tapatalk
I carry mine to work and use it as a Pandora player and weather/news updater so I don't have to use any of my work displays for these things. Also have several remote admin tools to check on servers, etc.
At home, this is hands-down the best bathroom computer in history. All the e-magazines and forums ... and now - streaming movies from Amazon too.
I am also absolutely queer for Wordsmith Free (if you ever play against me, be very afraid!)

Haha this is currently the job of my Evo, but for that morning poo, when I don't have my contacts in, the bigger screen will be a godsend.
Picked this G-tab up on Woot the other day so I could have some kind of device to use while on dialysis. More than likely I'll use it for heavy web surfing, moderate game play, weather, sports, streaming movies to it, portable media player, etc, etc. I'm really looking forward to getting this device. Not so enthused on having to pick between CyanogenMod, Zpad clean, TnT Lite, or VEGAn tab. Going to be tough.
General lightweight use
My workstation is a desktop. So, I use my Gtab mostly around the office for taking notes in meetings, checking email and a lightweight web browsing platform.
For personal use, I like to play 3D games on it and use it as my main kindle reading device.
I do most of my web surfing on mine.
Bought the dock a while back and started using it as a media center as well.
Plus, got a Gametel so I also use it to play all my old favorite 8 and 16 bit games.
Oh, and I let my nephews and nieces play games on it to keep them off my gaming rig.
Since I bought the G Tablet I rarely mess with my pc anymore outside of Borderlands 2 and Skyrim.
I primarily use mine as a very large very cool alarm clock. But also for browsing the web & email.

I use my Gtab for web browsing, e-reading, and email. I'm just starting with app development and it's also a great bargain tablet test platform for me.
I'm currently using mine to collect dust on my desk. It won't power up any longer. No idea why.

I just dont understand...

Hey everyone,
There is something thst has been bothing me for quite sometime now and i am still without a solution.
Currently i own a samsung infuse as well as a galaxy tab 10.1. Media accesability has obviously grown in importance since the progression of smartphones. Apple has been pretty good with the use of itunes and their store. Now they have the icloud as well. Google was ahead of the curve with this in regards to their music beta.
My problem is that i live in the Dominican Republic for now and i feel like non of these imporant things are available to me. I cannot use the google music beta, cannot use the samsung media hug, nor can us use the amazon kindle reader app on my tab, nor the samsung ereader for that matter.
I have yet to come across work arounds for this and honestly its disturbing that something that has become so important to many of us has failed to become available to me. I love android, but this is a bit frustrating.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Android fan considering the jump

Howdy. This is the first post from a lurker.
So, I'm a longtime Android user. I hopped on the platform with my first smartphone, an OG Droid.
Recently though, I've become a little dissatisfied with things in the Android world for various reasons, and I'm torn between upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus or hopping to a new platform.
I'm not really interested in the iPhone, or Apple products in a general sense. Windows Phone looks much more appealing to me. I love the diversity in devices, the direct updates, the UI is gorgeous, and the deep integration with things like XBOX doesn't hurt either.
My biggest gripe with Android, as someone who writes a lot, is that the Google Docs integration may as well not exist. The app is terrible. It's basically a pretty shell for the mobile site. SkyDrive/Office sounds very, very appealing to me. There are other issues I have, but this post seems like it's going to be huge already.
So I guess I have a few questions for you Windows Phone gurus.
How do you find SkyDrive to be in comparison to Google Docs? I understand you guys probably live in the Microsoft ecosystem as much as I do in Google's, but I've found Docs to be incredibly useful. Going forward in my life, having a really solid cloud productivity solution is critical.
How is the integration with other Google services like Gmail, Reader, Calendar, Contacts, etc? I've read a few posts on this, but most seemed to just confirm that it exists, and didn't really comment on how reliable it is.
I know that Microsoft doesn't have its own turn-by-turn GPS navigation yet, but are there any plans, to your knowledge, for future implementation of that? I know there are third party apps that do this, and those are valid options too but I really love that it's just built into the Google suite Android-side.
How is 3D gaming and emulation on Windows Phone? I don't play a ton of games, but there are a few I really enjoy. I'm absolutely in love with FPSE though, and playing Suikoden II on my phone is pretty much the bomb.
That's it for now. I'm sure I'll have other questions eventually. I tend to obsess over decisions like this for weeks.
Thanks a ton for any help you can provide me, guys.
I used to live android . Developed a rom and a few themes as well . I continue to work with 7+ Android in bringing as much of the metro UI to android as possible ...but honestly there is no comparison. I initially bought my wp7 device to help with our project . I now have no desire to go back .
I never used google docs , but I find SkyDrive to be amazing for my needs . 32gb for free is awesome ,and seamless integration with my PC . Gmail and contacts sync with no problem at all .
Wp7 actually does have turn by turn navigation built in with voice guidance now with mango . You just have to tap the screen after a completes turn . Now with Nokia drive being able to be sideloaded ...gps situation is perfect .
The os is just so smooth. I think you would be ver satisfied.
Sent from my mwp6985 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Although game emulation is basically non existent other than nes and gba ..and those struggle . But the os Is young .. It will come ..so that may be a deal breaker . But MS has some awesome original xb live titles . In not much of a gamer , bu some of those are really fun .
I feel like its a fair trade off for not dealing with androids lag and FCs

do jump....
I also had android and though they have alot of apps...windows have crazy features and then some...with the cooked mods that are being release...it only gets better....jump to windows...

Thanks
Thanks for the feedback, guys. I think I'll take another week to consider it.
I have google mail and my google calendar synced with my phone and they work flawlessly. Only issue is that if you have multiple calendars on google it'll only sync the main one. Not an issue for most people though (me included).

i made the jump last week, and i have not regretted it yet.
here's some of my answers to your concerns.
How do you find SkyDrive to be in comparison to Google Docs?
honestly, better. i have a lot of my work documents on there and the integration with office is so much better than google docs on android.
How is the integration with other Google services like Gmail, Reader, Calendar, Contacts, etc?
flawless, just sign in and they are there
I know that Microsoft doesn't have its own turn-by-turn GPS navigation yet, but are there any plans, to your knowledge, for future implementation of that?
bing maps is OK, reminds me of the earlier version on the iPhone 3g. it works good enough, but it's not google navigation. there are better 3rd party apps available ranging in price from $5 to $50
How is 3D gaming and emulation on Windows Phone?
xbox live games are cool. i never really gamed on a mobile, but the few that i have played on wm7 run smooth and flawless.
i actually started a blog last night about my jump from android to wp7 to help others considering the change over. again, i just started it last night, so it's really crude as of now, but i will be updating it and should have a lot of info and my experiences on it soon.

ipad vs laptop

Hi. Christmas is approaching and we promised our son to buy him an ipad or laptop. He is undecided what to buy. I know that mostly it depends on what you need it for however I would like some suggestions from you. And I have one question about the ipad. Can you play java and shockwave games such as the games in facebook on the ipad?
Thanks
No, you can't play Facebook games on the iPad. The only alternative is trying to find the same game in the app store.
iPad is good for strictly internet browsing, maybe looking at pictures, or watching movies (if you can successfully transfer them to the device with the oh so awesome iTunes)
A laptop will do everything, being a full fledged computer.
iPad is easier to use though for the things it can do (except transferring stuff to it), so if he just plans on browsing the internet (without flash or shockwave content), and basic stuff like that than the iPad
If he wants to be able to do everything he can do on the computer the iPad will seem lacking.
