No kidding. One X with Jellyean will be awesome.
JB rolls out in Mid July
ya we will get it sometime in mid 2013 rofl
Hopefully it won't take long to port Jellybean once HTC releases the damn ICS source. Lots of cool features, but nothing that strikes me as difficult to implement. The only thing I'd worry about is the new rendering engine playing nice with the S4 right off the bat.
We will get it..Don't you worry...once we have the source I am confident that we will get aokp and cm with 4.1

Every time I look at HTC Dev I get angry. This is ridiculous.
since google is releasing the PDK for oems and stuff, os upgrades should be much faster now since they are given to them 3 MONTHS AHEAD. Plenty of time to fix bugs and make it compatible for the given device.

don't know if this is a placebo affect, but JB on the GNex appears very fluid and responsive. and i definitely like the new notifications in the status bar. downside for me (at the moment) is that Apex Launcher os FC'ing and SwiftKey and Swype seem to be a glitchy. will breath new life into my trusty "play" phone!
it should be smoother considering they were praising their "project butter" all over the place

You knew this question was going to come. Now that 4.1 has been announced, when are we getting ours?
This will take a longer time for sure, as HTC is still busy to release ICS
Jellybean dev kits are supposed to be released mid july. At least that's what this source says: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2012/06/27/google-announces-android-41-jelly-bean/
But it may be a while before we get a working ROM.
Given the time it took the CM team to release CM9 RC1, I'd say 6 months!

While ICS is quite nice, it is hard not to want the latest, greatest thing on our devices Still, at least the Nexus 7 is available to fulfil the JB goodness until it's available. That may end up replacing my Nook Color which hasn't been used in a month since it's ac adapter gave up the ghost.
HTC says they "don't yet have an announcement" for Jelly Bean on existing devices.
... I can't post a link because <10 posts, but there is an article on pocket-lint.com
That will only lead to an anemic SDK ROM. sure it will show us the cool new features, but I wouldn't expect much. I wonder how long it takes to hit AOSP

Actually most of the changes are internal. I think project butter is a big internal change. Although the One S is already very smooth, squeezing more performance out of the S4 is a welcomed thing

Google doesn't care
I remember reading recently that Google knows about fragmentation but isn't worried about it. Now that I'm tempted to buy a media device to have the latest and greatest software, I can see how fragmentation can actually work for Google because now more and more people will look to buy nexus devices.
the main reason i got a HTC phone is because unlike Samsung's strange choice in hardware it dosnt take 5 months to port a fast stable release from the MOD team unlike HTC
lets hope this takes off !

Yea, but if you read at the bottom, tmo one s won't get it with the rest, it's bad enough having to wait on manufacturers to work the new version into their skin that they just haaave to have, but we also have to wait on the carrier to approve and add their extra layer of crap. I really wish they would all just give us the option to run vanilla android if we wanted without rooting. It does me up the wall. Ok I'm done ranting now.

You do have a choice.... its called get a Nexus!!! HTC/Samsung/Motorola/etc, always have, and always will add a skin to their phones. It's one of the reasons I bought my One S... For Sense!!!!! I never understood why people complain and ask companies to remove the one feature they add that is PURPOSELY added to help differentiate their phones from all the rest.
I prefer vanilla over sense. I bought the One S because of the excellent hardware, not because of sense. Still I would say that sense is better than vanilla for beginners. Some reasons:
1. Labels under every button so its behavior is clear. In some Google apps, for example Gmail, there are lots of buttons without labels and its not always clear what they do. Yes, I know I can long press to get description, but not everyone does.
2. More functionality included without third party apps. Why hasn't Google included something as basic as stopwatch in their clock app?
Theres probably more, but this is what I could think of now

Wow...been using Android for many years and just learned about this long press trick. I don't care about #2...I'd rather find an app that works the way I want it to rather than have some bloatware running in the background all the time.
It's starting in Europe and Asia, though there's a guy in the article comments who claims he's installing a new update on T-Mobile in Michigan:
http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/28/3565358/htx-one-x-jelly-bean-asia-europe
I'm hoping this might lead to more progress on the HTC One XL.
This is for the One X Tegra not the One XL, Still no word on the XL
Thanks for the clarification, XsMagical.
BTW, the commenter just clarified that the T-Mobile update was a false alarm:
"False alarm
It was weird. It downloaded a new system update, rebooted 7-8 times, and when it came back on it was still 4.0.4/Sense 4.1. Also, it had a restart error that I sent to HTC. I wonder if when I did that last update a month ago it never set in right? I used to run CM10 so maybe something is messed up?
I was so excited I got out of bed, oh well, I’ll blame Sandy."
I have a stock One XL awaiting the JB update and ive been checking a lot. Not ATT model.

Its a tough call for me. Nexus devices are supported pretty darn well. I mean, nexus s got jellybean and it can barely run it. (read run it smoothly for longer than two weeks)
But on the other hand, I tried a phone with no sense available, and I realized how much I liked sense (even though I'm only on it like half the time)
But my point is, sense is the slickest, most coherent ui overlay, and that has got to take time to do properly. Yeah, yeah, they drag their heels so we upgrade...but in all fairness, I do think they put a lot of work into it.
I think in the end I've decided that a stable version of sense is worth two of aosp. That's just my personal opinion.
After a decent aosp jellybean was released for desire z, I found myself still running gb sense 2.1. It was just a great OS that was hard to fault.

ATT is run by an arrogant ahole who only cares about the stock price(Randall Stevenson I'm calling you out). Why actually spend money on getting us JB when he can continue to line his pockets. "Eat the rich, its the only thing that they are good for"-Aerosmith
Couldn't be truer. Do nothing paper pushing thieves. He cost att billions in the failed tmo merger and got a 20+ million bonus and then they re-elected him. Ponderous to say the least. If anyone of us cost their company billions, we would be fired and probably brought up on charges.

The "guy" is Football. It is spelled backwards since some issues in December.
A well respected source of info.
He leaked about 90% of the RUU's we have for our devices before he stopped doing that in December 2012.
He gives highly accurate info regarding the state of devices and their updates.
I believe he is a HTC employee with at least access to RUU's for both internal and public builds.

If you're rooted it doesn't really matter when AT&T releases it, just when the first carrier does or when it gets leaked. Still, I wouldn't expect it for a bit, probably not until the summer at the earliest. Unless HTC really is being truthful about updating their phones in a timely manner.

agreed, i'm so-so on sense 5, but would much rather have 4.2.2 if given the choice between one of the two software developments. 5 seems like it could bring about a new set of issues that sense has already worked out in the 4.x versions, but 4.2.2 stands to improve a lot of the little issues that 4.1.x is experiencing.

Both the One X and One XL have been updated to Sense 4+ officially, so not sure what you mean by "skipping Sense 4+". The only big thing is that they would be skipping 4.1.2 in favor of 4.2.2, which would make sense IMO
