Engadget: "Turns out, the tablet has a 1280x800 IPS display coated in "scratch-resistant Corning glass," which we presume is of the Gorilla variety, plus a front-facing, 1.2-megapixel camera. Within its 198.5 x 120 x 10.45mm case lies either 8 ($199) or 16GB ($249) of storage, plus 1GB of RAM, and NVIDIA's quad-core Tegra 3 SoC. Connectivity comes courtesy of GPS, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g/n WiFi and Micro USB, plus it's got NFC for all your Android Beaming needs. Rounding things out is a 4325mAh battery and the usual spate of sensors: accelerometer, magnetometer, and a gyroscope."
Too bad there is no mention of a microSD-slot. I have never had a Tablet before, will I be able to connect my hard drive to the tablet via micro USB? Thanks.
as nexus you will be disappointed with no microsd for sure so don't hope only to have sdcard slot
Crap how are us non-US people gonna buy this awesome device
Stop the video at 2:17.
Why does it have a phone-like status bar and navigation buttons?
Are they removing the "combined bar" in Jellybean?
Where the hell can I order one? All of the articles say it's available for pre-order, but I can't find it.
After watching the keynote, I've noticed something odd: the Nexus 7 has the phone-style layout with the top notification bar, instead of the tablet-style bar with the combined navigation buttons and notification bar at the bottom. Wonder what has prompted this change? Will all Jellybean tablets have the phone-style top notification bar?
No sdslot. Brilliant device but useless without it. I hate the cloud and do not want too stream everything.

yeah I'd like someone to shed some light on that. im not crazy about phone mode. ICS tablet mode rocks, if its not broke dont fix it

I'm puzzled by the UI drop too :\
Though , They did just sneaked in the thinner notification in landscape
so its a quad core?
then android is finally able to use quad core for real?

Thanks for this! Pre-ordered!
What I don't like is how OEMs think that portrait is the main orientation for a 7" tablet,It's not. I barely go into portrait mode on my tablet.
Look at the Samsung 7" tablets, portrait logos, camera on the "top", same here for the Nexus 7.

Only htc had landscape in mind when they made a tablet. the design of my flyer is brilliant in that the front camera is dead center on the top in landscape. But you know what else they did with the flyer? Left it for dead on a half assed honeycomb rom. I'm seriously considering ebaying it and picking up a nexus tab

Speak for yourself. On my Nook Color and Springboard I've always always primarily used it in portrait (think of it like a book, not a laptop).
I too am confused and disappointed by the notification bar moving back to the top.

Looks like the Malta is coming out w/ a IPS Tegra2 tablet.
http://armdevices.net/2011/02/15/malata-releases-new-tegra2-tablets/
Looks like that has the screen we've all been looking for. hope it will fit in my gtablet.
It's not a Tegra 2 - it's Cortex based, problem similar to what SmartQ is coming out with.
That IPS screen is 4:3, not 16:9 - it's the same as my R10 and will not fit into our GTAB.

Would be nice if that screen can work with our g tablets... Does seem it uses the same dock.
The info sheet says:
- dual cortex A9 processor 1 ghz (though not Tegra 2)
- 1GB DDR2 (very nice)
- Front 1.3 MP camera & Rear 5 MP camera (also nice)
- GPS (nice, but already have external GPS)
- 10" 1280x800 screen with wide viewing angles. (Very nice)
Roebeet you sure, that screen dosen't look 4:3 to me. I think you looking at the one they show at the end (iPadish one).
I think the IPS one is that last one (about 6:20). That's the 4:3 device - I don't think the other two are IPS. But I could be wrong.
I noticed one of them has light-up buttons - that's pretty sweet. Also, that IPS screen is a dual Cortex (Tegra, I assume?).

The first two are 16:9 and might fit the GTAB - whether or not the angles are better remains to be seen (it does look look that way however, going on the video).
I get the impression that the LCD's must have been the biggest complaint with their first gen devices, since viewing angles and screen quality are being addressed this year. That's great!

The first device was the current g tablet, from what I could gather. The second has the new improved screen, he mentioned it had a better screen than the third device (iPad look-a-like). I don't know if it IPS or what, but it look like a much nicer screen.

I second that. Even when he moved the tablets around you could still see what was on the screen! IPS or not, I will take that any day over the crap we have
thanks for the info, hope that some retailers will just sell the screen.. I guess that buying a new screen is still cheaper than buying a new terga 2 tablet like A10. I was thinking about pre-order the A10. Now, I can wait a little bit longer.. Save a few hundred bucks for the google IO conference...
The new model has a very similar specs to Xoom (all kinds of sensors, camera, etc), just wondering how much will it cost? 600+?
Did anyone else notice that he said the new tablet has 10 point multi-touch? That is cool, but I don't see needing more than 4 or 6.

It probably doesn't cost much more to put in 10 points then it does 4 points so its nice to have for bragging rights I guess.
10 points may be useful in the future. there are some rumors that apple is going to use more different gesture to control more screen actions such as turn on/off device, etc. (read it from Engagdet).. How's about playing a real panio program, or guitar.. it would be nice to have more touch points at the same time.. right? just a thought..
Still looking at the tablets. Part of me wants the biggest screen possible for browsing. But the flip side is the bigger the tablet, the less likely I will be to take it outside the house. How portable is your table and do you wish it was bigger, smaller or is the size just right?
Personally I think 10 inches is just right, I have played with the 7 inch tablets, I think the screen is to small. Anything bigger then 10 wouldn't be portable enough in my opinion, could get bulky too. Maybe if it was 12 and still the same thickness and weight, which will be possible later down the road of course.
For me 10 inches is right in that goldilocks zone. Video looks great at 10, Netflix is awesome.
i had a 7 in Sammy tab and I thought it was the perfect size for holding. The xoom is a little harder to hold in one hand. I guess it all depends on what you prefer to be doing on your device. If your into books and on the go internet emails I'd use 7 inch more. The 10 inch is perfect for movies and spreadsheets documents and big games and such.
i used to think 10" was too big, but then I got a case that didnt suck. My view on 7" is that I may as well just use my phone, which has a 4" and some change screen.
Ditto with the idea of 7 inch tablets for the ebook readers. Personally the 10.1 inch screens are perfect for me. I mean yes, the Xoom is a little heavier than the other Honeycomb tablets, but that's because it was the first of it's kind, but it works for me. I have used a 7 inch tablet before and it was not right for me. 10.1 inch screen sizes are perfect: not too large, but not too small, just right.
The future should bring a tablet with adjustable screen sizes. Lol! That way you wouldn't have to choose one or the other.

Well, I think the Xoom is a bit thicker and heavier (only a bit) because it has more ports and better hardware (cameras, true gps) than some of the others, not so much because it was the first (read older). I have a 7" tegra two tablet and it's really cute, but the Xoom is the one I use, not just daily but constantly.

That's very true indeed. The Xoom is an all out beast no doubt. That's why the newer build of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is thinner and lighter, because they stripped it of more powerful hardware such as the camera for example. The Xoom has a 5MP rear facing camera, meanwhile the Galaxy Tab 10.1 only has a 3MP rear facing camera. And other hardware related things as you mentioned. You are totally correct.
Down the road they will be able to pack all the power and features into a thin light weight device. I'd say with the quad core, 3D, ICS, and high resolution Android tablets and phones on their way... we are closing in on that gap of thin, light weight, extremely powerful devices.

When they come out, I hope I can afford one of them...:^)
I loved my old 7" for gaming, reading, etc. But it was failing for me on work related items. the 10" lets me read PDF's, type a little easier (still using swype), watch NetFlix in between appointments, etc.
With regards to portability my 7" went into my cargo pocket on my shorts. The Xoom I carry around in a stand/case that looks like a normal paper portfolio which works well and I haven't forgotten it anywhere. I honestly leave the laptop at home with TeamViewer setup and remote in if I need more than the tablet can do.
I wouldnt mind a play with a Flyer or similar just to see how much difference there is between the two..
10 inch is perfect for me, the 7s just feel like a really big phone to me.

Current Xoom size is in the Goldilocks zone for me...I like the form factor, too.
Dont get me wrong, I really like my Xoom, but I also have a DHD so my question would be get a smaller phone and get a smaller tablet so the whole lot is more portable or just stick with the sizes I have..
For a while the size of the Xoom was an issue for me. It simply wasn't "transportable" enough.
I even got one of those cheapo "ePad" 7-inch tablets from Hong Kong just so I could have the tablet experience in a pocketable form factor.
Anyway, the smaller tablet gave up the ghost, and I again began using my Xoom everyday.
The changing seasons has been a BIG help for me. Why? Jackets! I have an off-the-rack coat/jacket and two Scottevest items all with interior pockets big enough to hold my Xoom in the Motorola standard or AYL leather case without issues (and without it looking like I have a tablet in my pocket). Therefore, I can literally carry my Xoom everywhere without a man-bag!

I can't really advise about the phone because my phone is never special to me--just a phone--but the Xoom is really a perfect size. Small enough to carry everywhere and large enough to be really functional.
10" is just right. now, if there's a clam type tablet just like Sony's, then perhaps up to 12"
any more and it would have a very cumbersome surface area once opened.
the weight though cannot exceed the current weight of the xoom. as the xoom is already on the heavy side as it is now.
Sent from my Xoom using Tapatalk
I have both a 7" tab and the 10" Xoom, and there is not even a comparison! I find myself not even using the 7" tab anymore (and they have all the same apps on)! If you go with the 7" I think you will find yourself wishing you had a 10". (lol)
I like the 10" for gaming because you can see whats under your thumbs while playing but then sometimes games or apps ask you to swipe in the middle or press a button and you have to change your position just for that command ( thats dev problem maybe they think you´re on a 7" screen and can do that swipe without changing your grip).
As a reader the 10" its really great you dont have to zoom the xoom (lol) to see well. i have a 7" huawei and i always have to zoom to read a pdf or a book. But then some readers dont have the change of page via tap and ask you to swipe from one side to another and thats a problem.
Also i find it really hard to type if it isnt in my lap. i got the thumb keyboard app but sometimes i wish there where no buttons in the middle because they are unreacheable (is there an app for something like the courier keyboard prototype from microsoft?) Anyway if you rotate the screen to write like in your phone then prepare to have thumb abs because its heavy in any tablet even the ipad.
Hello everyone, this thread will serve as a discussion for the upcoming Galaxy S III which is expected to be previewed at MWC in February.
Here's some of the specs that most of us can expect:
Exynos Quad-Core CPU
Super Amoled HD Screen (1280 x 720) - however, we don't know if this will use Pentile or RGB
ICS (of course)
4.65 screen size
3D capable?
2GB of RAM
A new version of TouchWiz - TouchWiz 5?
One of the big things that I hope Samsung really changes is - its build quality. I really hope they consider changing from plastic (and yes I know the plastic is VERY durable) to a more premium feel such as aluminum. There were some rumors that the SGS III would ditch plastic, but we'll have to see.
So, this thread is open to discussion on what you guys would like to see in the GSIII, and what you guys are expecting. Feel free to give me suggestions to add on to the list, and please no flaming/trolling.
I would like the see al the features from above, but no 3D, a friend of my has a 3D phone and it realy sucked
I vote for "No 3D" too. I guess (hope) they are bringing separate 3D model to the market.
I like the build of the SGS2. I wish they get rid of the hardware buttons and make the bezel as thin as possible.

Yea, I'm sure it'll have one. They better not pull a Nexus on us!
Not worried about 3D, but the 4.65" HD screen is a must, as is a return to the Wolfson sound chip (or non-Yamaha at any rate).
I'd like some metal in the build too, but I doubt it'll happen, Samsung seem to be determined to go down the thinner-the-better road.
I want to see these improvements:
- Wolfson or better sound chip
- No more color banding
- No more yellowish on left screen
- No more dirt between the gorilla glasss and super amoled++
- Next generation of Super Amoled ++?
- Much much longer battery juice
- Dual hot swappable battery
- HD resolution at least 1280x800
- No bigger than ~4.0-4.5"
- No hardware button except power and volume
- Thinner and lighter
- Thinner screen bezel
- Scratch-proof back border(material like the plastic on the back of SGS2 is welcome)
Suggested features

Dual boot Windows 8 ARM.
Auto-encryption for homemade porn in the camera app.

I'd love to see a wake up lag of 3 secs so anyone could feel the quad proc rumbling up, just like a Cummins diesel.
Every time I see the Sensation XE snapping when I press the power button it makes me want to choke a dev near me ( though they are innocent and never stated the wake up lag comes from the proc waking up).

LOL, this I'd love to see
- Better camera quality. No framerate dips. No white balance problems. Usable HD resolution (why do you want FullHD if picture is full of noise and not very sharp).
- No yellow tint.
- No smudged pixel areas with a different saturation value only overcomed with high levels of brightness, a lot like the yellow tint.
- Better battery.
- Dual Core Cortex A15 better than Quad Core Cortex A9.
- PowerVR GPU.
- No 3D screen.
- Super AMOLED HD Plus (that is, RGB matrix instead of PenTile), 1280x800.
- White color case from the beginning.
- Continue with the plastic-crystal fiber mixture instead of going metal.
- MicroSD slot LVMed with the internal storage. You always can do a copy to a bigger SD card or same card size to maintain the LVM integrity. That would mean some more managing options on kies for Windows users.
- 2 GB of RAM.
- 32 GB of internal storage.
- Ice Cream Sandwich.
- Quicker updates, not months later.
Better sound quality/ loudspeakers would be a welcome!

I agree with some of your suggestions but how can you possibly want a SGS3 to be thinner and lighter this phone is already thinner and lighter enough.
As regards having an aluminium back in theory it sounds good however should you happen to drop your phone it will most likely smash to bits which is why i suggest keeping the plastic back, remember this video folks, the reason the SGSII didn't smash half as much as the iPhone is because of the plastic.

All of these would be nice:
- Ability to remove a soggy biscuit from my cup of coffee
- MTP support for OS X (if that's even possible?)
- Two SD card slots
- Solid aluminium back/side (Apple would sue)
- Remove the stupid voice thing when you double tap home button
- Ability to choose whether you want stock Google or Sammy rom
I've never had any yellow screen problems, is it a particular batch or country that got it?

Yes, it's possible. There's a library called libmtp that must be compiled for Mac OS X. On GNU/Linux is ready to install from the repositories of your distribution.
Samsung just should help developing that library giving patches with code for their devices.
Any Wish Lists for what the Sidekick 4G LX (I am guesstimating the new name of the Next Generation model) should have??
My list:
* A bigger screen (closer to 4 inches).
* Full Unicode Support, including manual entry of symbols (like Alt+#### on PCs and similar to older Sidekicks). Support for a wider array of symbols via the Symbols key (customizable??).
* More built-in memory.
* LED lights that are accessible to a wider array of apps (not just the built-in ones).
* Smiley Button that works in ALL apps, not just the built-in Texting app
* If you have to add bloatware (like DriveSmart) allow it to be easily uninstalled.
*Allow customizable color themes.
*provide a better font where it is clear the difference between l (lower L) I and 1 (like the older sidekicks did)
Any others you want to add to the list??
I'd be fine with retaining the screen we have now, though stretching it out to the borders of the case does sound nice. The bigger priorities for me would be to add a faster CPU, some extra memory, and get ICS. An HDMI output would be a nice bonus, but definitely not a requirement.
Despite what HTC says, I don't want my cell phone to be the thickness of a playing card. I quite like the chunky shape of the Sidekick and would much much much much much much much much much much much rather have that than an angular and awkward iPhone 4-shaped phone with shorter battery life. Really thin phones are weird to hold, and the battery life is short enough as it is with our chunky battery.
is it confirmed there making one? id like a bigger screen and a dual core, but thats about all.
Nothing specific other than saying they are not retiring the brand and hope to release a new version in the future.
I'd possibly be going on the crazy end of the spectrum for a great sidekick 4g/5g/lte whatev
5" screen with a keyboard that slides out (similar to the OQO model 2) with a full qwerty like the sidekick but with aswell a mouse button.
REAL GORILLA GLASS!!
on the face of the device would be captive touch buttons similar to ones found on the captivate/vibrant
A Texas instrument based cpu dual core preferably (TI because they are more friendly with source code)
1gb of ram
8gb internal memory aswell as a microSD slot
petaband radio similar to the one in the galaxy note so it will work just about anywyere with gsm
HDMI output
Sound chipset that has background filtering
ICS with as little reskinning as possible
probably will never happen but a mad man can dream can't he?

Why? The reason I own the SK4G is that it is the only phone besides the G1 with a 5-row keyboard and Hard-buttons. Making the hard-buttons capacitive is a deal-breaker for me! At least the Back button must be clicky hardware, not "don't know if I pressed it or not" and "sometimes press it by mistake" capacitive soft-buttons).
If this phone had updated processor/memory, a better camera with flash (or awesome low-light performance), and a brighter edge-to-edge high-res screen, it would be perfect. NFC and HDMI-out would be a bonus.
I really like the design on this device(slightly tilted screen, physical buttons, GREAT keyboard), so I wouldn't mind if they continued this train of thought. But yeah, more RAM would be a must, to hopefully prevent the freezing and rebooting problems. And for me, a 3.7 in. screen would be cool, and a better camera. And also, improve the trackpad.
I know what we need. Replace the utterly useless micro optical trackpad! Give us a ball, a nub, a much bigger optical trackpad, ANYTHING!
Also, an inverted T set of arrow keys in the keyboard would be spectacular.

If there's going to be another sidekick, i'd avoid it like the plague if it's from samsung again. It says a lot when they get the keyboard drivers wrong on at least two phones. Also, touchwiz.
Here's what i'm hoping on the next sidekick, if we see another one:
- Dual core 1 GHz or more CPU
- 1GB RAM
- 5 row keyboard
- 4 inch screen (i don't mind bigger, but i think 4 inch is the most likely size, and should please most people)
- 960x540 screen (800x480 is getting a little outdated, though it's still a good resolution)
... and interestingly enough, this phone leaked a few days back with similar specs i listed, and i'm already eyeing it: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/LG-Cayenne_id7120
I don't know the general opinion of LG around here, but I've had a good experience with my ancient LG GW620 and its lovely 5 row keyboard, though it was slow as hell and uses a CPU that's even older than the G1.

I know what we need. Replace the utterly useless micro optical trackpad! Give us a ball, a nub, a much bigger optical trackpad, ANYTHING!
Also, an inverted T set of arrow keys in the keyboard would be spectacular.

The optical trackthing is useless, agreed. The sun and other heat sources create more input on it than I do. Or did, before I disabled it and forgot about its existence.
Real arrow keys would be nice, but I remapped the insipid smiley key to the up arrow, and the only-ever-pressed-accidentally microphone key to down arrow. So I can at least get around in my command history.
Apart from that, as others have said, more RAM (I'll go so far as to say 1.5 GB), although I don't really feel the need for a faster processor. 5 GHz 802.11n would be nice.
And last but not least... better code drops from the manufacturer. Samsung and T-Mobile did the bare minimum to comply with the GPL. TI internals would be a good start. Fewer proprietary peripherals, more open ones.
And under no circumstances may the keyboard be reduced in number of rows, spacing, or tactile quality.
I want my d-pad and hardware trackball back.
And, I want my pop/swivel hinge back.
There's no harm in putting that d-pad back. I am tired of hearing people that play games on their phone complain that a phone looks like you could play a game on it.
Devolution is real.
As a SK supporter since the day i had to plug my redic dot matrix camera into my bric err cinderblock black and white OG sidekick "1g" and my mr cartoon sk2 and the overhyped overpriced no difference but a lil thinner and a flashy rollerball with same booty screen sk3 (they lost me to crackberry during the whole slide lx dwade ed 07 08 09 new sk every month bs) id like to say the typical dual core 4+ inch screen 1gb+ ram as most but by the time this thing actually would come out u gotta imagine the landscape of the future androids. ics is already internally being considered a flop or to be politically correct a "gateway"(windoze me millenium ed if u will)to intertwine both tablet and phone interfaces and to make way for the more slightly desktop interfaced and integrated android 5 already in testing and rumored to make a q4 this year debut...so in other words q3 next yr if we r lucky.(its coming eventually, phone tablet and chromebooks all running the same android) so seeing how the sidekick has historically been behind the ball as far as tech ill just be happy with a galaxy s2 running ics built into a SK package. i tried to pretend when i 1st upgraded to the s2 with a bt keyboard and rigged case but nothing and i mean nothing out today beats the sidekick layout and keyboard. give me the s2 guts in a sk package and a below 500 pricetag a year from today and im happy, bigger higher res screen is a must but for petes sake...dont forget the freaking camera flash this time!

prefer but dont really care about the hinge but ditto on the rollerball, tho it jams with dust and the d pad. this new joystick sucks balls. btw while we r dreaming. quad core the b 2gb ram 32gb internal 64gb external sdxc and a 5 inch hd screen 8+MP cam w/flash! all with the sidekick layout/keyboard and id shell out 1500 bucks right now lol samsung would prolly just jack it up with gingerbread or some crap
I'm quite happy with the hinge design we have now. It's very strong and solid. Much more so than the classic Sidekick mechanism. I've yet to see a Sidekick 4G with the screen broken off. But I've seen older sidekicks in two pieces.
I suspect it also allows the phone to be thinner, but I can't confirm that.

I don't have it yet, but here is what I know I like about it even before owning it.
A physical home button. Menu and back soft keys. Just makes more sense and every Android phone should have them.

This plus air view which I used a lot in the note 2. I just like it when you're browsing the web and you have small tabs or menus that are hard to press with fingers, air view makes it easy to access.
wish to have that unit someday...i Working on it
from now i just want to know some review and opinion by some of s4 users
not the advantages
much prepair for any bugs and errors and how to fix it
im active phone user so hope that one is best...
it's not new for the s4, but i like the menu/back buttons bezel. it's a clean/slick look.
i was hoping that smmy would ditch the mechanical home button and make the home button part of the menu/back buttons bezel.
My top 3 picks...
Exynos
13mp camera
Ir blaster

I like the look, design, super amoled full hd resolution. I love touchwizz ui, icon, color. To me samsung make good interaction design in their touchwizz.
And of course tons of feature, guarantee it can be operated in high and low temperature.
The good software (if not the best among competitors), much faster update than competitors.
All of above in a slim and thin package, newest hw, cpu, includes removable battery and microsd. It is top notch engineering.

what I like the most is: this, the IR blaster, the screen, that thing when you hover your hand over the phone while the screen if off and it says some things like the note II, the design TBH I think it looks great, the SD card slot, removable battery, camera and maybe there's more that I can't think of right now
what I wish the S4 had but unforunately it doesn't: FM radio, HDR video (not sure if it has it?), 60fps 1080p video recording and the S-pen
Thin bezel and 5" screen.
1º Removable Battery
2º AMOLED
3º Sensors (new features)
4º MicroSD
Hate:
1º fragmentation (two chip versions)
2º No LTE in Exynos (really hate that)
2º Design
.
Everything my s2 didnt have. Especially lte
Love:
1. 13MP camera-I take a lot of pics.
2. Display-I watch vids, and surf the net a lot.
3. Can use with my gloves on-Finally!
4. Removable Battery.
5. SD Card slot.
Hate:
1. Would've prefered it came with KLP-but XDA will fix that

It can't come out with something that doesn't "exist" yet
Expandable microSD slot, swappable battery, 1080p display, 5" screen, its simply awesome.
I like the design and the awesome 1080p SAMOLED screen!
