[Q] CM9 RC0 VS CM9 RC1 - on Nexus S - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello guys
i have been running CM9 RC0 (cm-9.0.0-RC0-crespo-signed.no.v5) on my GSM Nexus S OCed to 1.2GHz (ondemand governor)
and now i found out that they have released RC1 and so i downloaded it to give it a try.
but before doing so i have some questions in mind regarding RC1
that if it is worth flashing instead of CM9 RC0?
what are the possible added features of settings that are of more benefit than the previous version ?
please help me as i am just a rookie in these rom flashing and Overclocking

Just thinking that new version always worth to flash otherwise why do they release it? Working on ROM is not something easy

It's newer cm code compiled into a Nightly release. Some nightlies are more stable than others, read the changelogs and bug for nightlies and you'll have an idea of what is fixed in a release and what is broken by an update.

ok great so does it mean that it should be more faster than the Rc0 or the nightly builds ? because CyanogenMod is MEANT to be a PERFORMANCE ROM so there must be some more speedy update to it in simple words right ?

Let me try this again, Nightlies are just the latest code compiled into a Rom, there's no guarantee you'll see any difference between one nightly or another so you have to read the changelog to see what code was changed.

Because to have official support it has to be out of Alpha/Beta stage. In other words it has to be completely stable on hardware level (kernel and proprietary binaries) before it can be included in the main repo and build with only CM not device changes. CM devs will not bother to fix device stuff, only OS related. So if you are reading the CM10 threads you will know that we are far from that still. It may be working but not for all (example the hitachi panel users). Until this is fixed - no official support.

[ROM] AOKP JB MR1 4.2.1 Unofficial Nightlies (1/21/13) DISCONTINUED

AOKP JB-MR1 Unofficial Nightlies for the Grouper
What is it?
A pure, untampered with AOKP Nightly based on Google's Android OS 4.2.1 direct from source, compiled by myself and uploaded for your pleasure.
Unless noted otherwise, these are straight merged nightlies from AOKP's github.
What's the difference between a nightly, a milestone, and a PUB release?
A nightly is only the officially merged changes to AOKP, added whenever it passes review codes and tests, as the changes come. A Milestone release is whenever there are enough significant changes to the ROM to where the AOKP team decides it is time to officially publish it and showcase it, and a PUB (Project Unicorn Butter) release is from a member of Team AOKP that adds different changes that haven't officially been merged yet. While most of the time these changes are considered stable, they have not been officially checked off yet.
Why?
Why not? I started compiling them for myself and decided to share with whomever also wanted the latest and greatest, free of buzz words and hype.
Changelog
Can be found Here
These nightlies will ONLY work on the ASUS Nexus 7 (Grouper), flashing these will require a custom recovery, for your sake I hope you are on the latest either CWM or TWRP2. If not on the latest recovery you will receive the 0/0/0/0 folder error, I personally recommend TWRP2 as you can queue up multiple files to flash at once.
The gapps package I recommend using can be found at this link, gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip
The usual disclaimers and everything else still apply, so if you install this on a non Grouper tablet, please don't blame me.
gapps flashing is still required, and I recommend nexus louder beta and franco kernel.

OK, These are straight compiles from merges to source, no cherry picks but I will update daily. I can take no credit for the development of this rom, I am merely a compiler. If you want a changelog, check the AOKP Gerrit @ http://gerrit.sudoservers.com/#/q/status:merged,n,z. I compile for this and Maguro, for my personal use, but considering how often I would scour goo.im I figure I might as well share since I know the woes of being a crack flasher. These things take a couple hours to clobber, sync, compile, then upload, so hopefully by me doing this, this lets the real dev talent focus on making advancements to the source vs having to push nightlies to people such as myself that likes to keep real fresh (under 24 hrs fresh). I am aware of how much of a process it can be just to find a same day nightly, let alone making one, that is why I am sharing with the community.
Enjoy!

Thx for the builds, without cherry picking.
Any difference between your builds and DizzyThermal nightly?
Discontinued
Shouldn't be, those are the ones I was running before I decided to start compiling for myself. I'd see something in the merge that was added after his compile that I would want, and instead of checking back all day to see if another build was up I decided it would be less stress to just go ahead and do it myself. Recompiling after clobbering and compiling is pretty quick compared to waiting for a day

No problem! I'm glad someone else can get use out of these besides myself! I crack flash daily and always want the latest and greatest. I keep my eyes on the github and don't clobber until the next day so a build WILL come quicker later in the day if something juicy comes up in the merges
No new merges since I published yesterday's nightly. I will hold off publishing another nightly until tomorrow night in case there is something that will be merged. For those who want to still be on the latest, regardless of changes, I will still publish tomorrow.

We all know CyanogenMod will try to bring CM10.1 to the Sensation, and they're going to work hard to do so. As of right now there's nothing to go on (that they'll be anything to flash soon).
That site only lists commit changes which is helpful to see fixes and changes on their Github.
You could try CM10.1 here

Anyone??????
Depends on what you want. The snapshot build has been tested and confirmed to be somewhat stable, while the nightlies are completely untested automatic builds that contain all code that has been submitted to the git.
If you want the latest and greatest, and are willing to deal with possible bugs then go with the nightly.
If you value stability and dont care for the latest commits incorporated in the rom, go with the snapshot.
Patience is the key young padowan.
Flash Nightly. It is proven to be much better than Milestone, and plus it includes more features. It is really stable and is definately daily driver worthy if you do not use bluetooth often (some people report bluetooth problems).
Hit that thanks button tho

[Q]Confused between various KitKat ROMs ! Need help......

Hey guys, I need some help regarding various KitKat Roms. I used to keep myself updated with xda an year back, but now as its my 12th going on, I couldn't do so, and I don't even have enough time to read those 1000s of posts!:banghead:
So plz help me differentiate b/w mainly these two roms-
1) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572199
And
2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589303
Below are my queries--
1) Which of them is more stable for daily use?
2) I read that speaker phone isn't working. That means the normal mode(when we pickup call) or when we switch it to loudspeaker?
3) In the 1st thread posted above, there are 3 builds- Jenkins build, OMINI Rom, and a build by hephappy. What's main diff. Between them??
Any help is very appreciated!
Also, please don't post posts like -- "Flash this its awesome!!"
Or,
"I use this, it'll blow your mind"
Suggestions from developers are more recommended

I use the one from mukulsoni as daily Driver and am totally ok with it, I chose is as the other one still sais that it's early experimental. If you use the sweetnsour Kernel and the newest Version (v5) you should be happy.I don't realy see any bigger troubles so I'd suggest you install it and see for yourself, as flashing doesn't take to long and before installing to much, you just check if the main Functions suit your needs

Talking when you pick up is fine just the switching to loudspeaker is supposed to not work. I never use loudspeaker in calls so I can't tell you if it's true but normal calling works

Can't really help you there, but it has as far as I know to do with the different defs working on it.
Hope this helped.

Jenkins build is original cm 11 build
Omni rom is different rom its based on omni sources its still in very early stage
so dont use them
Hephappy build is far old one
its just a preview version of kitkat
so dont use this one
IF u wanna use daily use jenkins cm 11 build
if u r intrested to try new rom
try omni
There's basically no difference between those two ROMs. Almost the same.
Both ROMs are pretty stable except battery drain and Bluetooth issue with some phones. And for SD-EXT, only link2sd works at the moment.
Yea. You cam talk normally by picking up the phone but won't hear anything in loudspeaker mode.
Jenkins is a kind of build server and Jenkins build are the builds built by it. You can set its source from Github and downloads from androidarmv6's jenkins.
Omni ROM is a kind of with many added features other than stock android or CyanogenMod. Its not much stable as of now. You can get experimental builds from here and submission tests here
Builds by Hephappy are the ones which Hephappy (a great developer) built. They were the first ones to have workinh KitKat. But not suitable for daily use. You can find them here (KitKat builds). Hephappy's folder (all builds)
Every build except the Omni ROM is pretty stable to use as daily driver. Omni to become stable soon :good:
Hope this helped you
