Just wondering if the Samsung galaxy tab plus will be getting the ice cream sandwich update, heard news that it might and might not be getting it, so I'm not really sure. Any 1? XD

yes, the 7 Plus is on Samsung roadmap to receive ICS Q1 2012.

I researched this before I bought my Plus. I would not have bought it without assurances from Samsung that this would indeed upgrade to ICS.
I, for one, cannot wait!!!!

Are you sure about Q1? The announcement seemed to suggest the S2 and galaxy R were Q1 and all others would follow.

Of course converting Q1 2012 from the "Samsung Timezone" to UTC means it's actually Q4 2012.

Sent from my GT-P6200.
So do I... But from my experience with my past 2 Samsung devices... They tend to push back release dates 4-5 times before actually releasing the update. (Moment and Epic 4g)
Although maybe I just had bad luck in picking those two particular devices.

Actually Samsung is pretty timely with updates - as long as there is NOT a North American carrier in the loop (So T-Mobile TabPlus users are probably screwed.)
Once there's a North American carrier in the loop - you're screwed with almost any device from any manufacturer. The Tab 10.1 received updates in a fairly timely fashion, the I9000 did too, and the I9100 seems to be coming along fine.

I am surprised
I am very concerned and surprised that Chinese tablets are coming with ICS 4.3, even Sony S tablet has already updated to ICS via OTA and our device still has the same version that is Honeycomb. The most amazing thing is that Samsung is mentioning that our device is starting to receive the updates but when??? They are saying the same thing from long time ago.
there are no ICS updates for this devices...???
just curious, samsung forget this tab
Nothing yet, I think Samsung will not update it.
Don't think there will be, since SS just released Tab 2 which is an ICS tab... (possibly to take down kindle)
the Plus is a relatively young device. it MUST receive ics.

They said it may get ICS, but being a new device means nothing. For Samsung, 'soon' usually applies only to the next device they want to sell you.

It is in the list of devices, that will get ics
But first....
It could receive ICS but Samsung needs to sell his new ICS TAB 2 devices to the customers who are expecting the new android version anxiously. the strategy works because many people prefer selling their old tablet and buy a new one.
We could just hoping that we WILL receive ICS.. we'll just need to wait n see..

Galaxy S2 phones in Canada began getting ICS starting in May. Given that phone came out about a year or so before the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus... well, some Galaxy S phones in the US only just got Gingerbread in May.
With that sort of precedent, I fear we might not get ICS until the Google Nexus Tablet 2 with the Tegra 5 chipset is released.
Our tab will get ics, its a known fact. As much as I want the ics upgrade, I am happy they have not released it yet because we would all be *****ing about the peel ap not working with ics and other things that make the gal plus tab better that the the basic tabs that did get the update. Look at the asus transformer ts3, mybrother in law has it and it is a disaster right now.

So back in December, Samsung stated that ICS would be available for Galaxy devices in Q1 2012 (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2397850,00.asp - among other sources).
Someone asked on Facebook when the update for the Galaxy Nexus S was coming and Samsung stated that "ICS updates for Galaxy devices will be available in early Q2." (https://www.facebook.com/samsungmobilecanada/posts/10150560045396050)...
Idk, that may be a bit different because the Nexus S is in the original Galaxy S family. Those are going to be updated after all the Galaxy S2 devices. They actually weren't even going to release the update for those phones initially.

Some rumors said march first, which would be q1 and not going to happen. Some leaked document i saw said april which would be early q2. God knows what they are doing over there. I want aosp/cm9 anyway, but if they release ics it might help get us closer.
I am so sick of this too.....
From now on I am only getting Nexus Devices
I'm sick of it too, but used to it. They just released official Gingerbread for the Captivate (my previous phone) a few weeks ago after XDA users had been running leaked versions for several months. But the devs here on XDA already have (as I understand it) some pretty kickass ICS roms available for the Captivate.
Don't hold your breath waiting for AT&T/Samsung. We'll have ICS here on XDA long before they make it officially available (but...without a secure element we won't be able to use Google Wallet--not sure how they're going to solve that one...re-issued sim cards maybe?)
Sounds like it's all Galaxy devices:
https://www.facebook.com/samsungmobilecanada/posts/10150560045396050
That being said, I wasn't holding my breath either for an official release but figured when one came it might help speed up some things here on XDA or for the CM guys.
And yeah, I was running ICS on my Cappy for a couple months before it died (needed a new mobo so the cost of upgrading to the SGS II LTE was actually cheaper than the repair on my Cappy - go figure)... the official Samsung/Rogers upgrade cycle on the Cappy was horrendous as well, bought it with Froyo, an hour later had CM7 on it, and it wasn't long afte they updated officially to GB that I was running TeamHacksung ICS alpha builds on it.
We'll be lucky to get official ICS before Jellybean is released
That is Samsung mobile Canada stating that. So may be different for us in the states. But what I think is funny is the vivid is getting the update soon, and if I'm not wrong both phones came out on the same day. So no blaming this on the carrier this time. Damn Sammy LOL.

True, it is Samsung Mobile Canada - I wasn't expecting us (or the US) to get it in Q1 anyways (officially) as the original statement I believe was for the international versions of the Galaxy S II/Note. Still, was hoping that the international stock rom would help jump/fix kinks some of the developers here are trying to overcome.
I'm in Canada, so I can only hope

To clarify, they only said the international versions of the S II and the Note would get it in Q1. The others that were announced to get ICS have never been given a time frame, other than that they would follow those two.
There seems to be a lot of confusion on that point.

Yes, I do understand that fully. Not holding my breath that the international version will be rolling out any time soon either.
Looking into the dev forum there are two promising roms one in alpha 1 with basic functions working and another one that the mods and the dev keep fighting over is a lot further along but I think was taken down again :-(. I'm guessing we have about a month maybe a bit more before we have some awesome functioning ics rom's

On Jelly Bean... I don't even want to start to think about considering it.
I know that everybody is always looking for the next best thing but to be honest i am very happy with my A2. I have no complaints against this phone. Its quick, no lag and i have a ton of space for more apps. Those were my biggest complaints with previous phones that I have owned but not with this one. It's still a new phone and once the bootloader gets unlocked there will possibly be a lot more development. Plus we get at least one more update with ics in the future.

Just to give some "true" info on both Jelly Bean and the Atrix 3.
They are both actual products, but neither will be here this year.
Yes they are going to start work on Jelly Bean in Q2, but it will not be released until either very late 2012, or more likely in 2013, from what I am hearing. The Atrix 3 is a real phone, but there are no "true"specs for it yet, as it is just a work up that Moto provided to AT&T, and it it will go through several changes and most likely be nothing of what the rumors say at this point since it is just a render from Moto to AT&T and it was part of an RFP that was put out about 3-4 months ago. There has not been any more movement with the product at this time, the notes about specs were things that were mentioned in the RFP, but again those are just "high level" thoughts, and usually only equate to companies being able to bid IF they can meet at least those minimal specs.

Unlikely, but that's anyone's guess. It took a year to get ICS, meaning the phone is a year older (thus less likely to get development from Motorola). Jelly Bean is a much smaller update than Gingerbread->ICS, but I don't see Motorola committing the resources.
You should feel luckily that moto updated atrix 2 to 4.0. You see, moto is a small company now, that is why google swallowed it. All moto care is to sell their rarz and other new phones.

Sorry, but it's impossible. You can try an unofficial version like the cm10. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869692.
It's a nyce roms, the developers are still working this, but it's a nice alternative.
i think we are gonna get jellybean.. motorola said (i know we can trust in that lol) that they would try to update most of their devices launched in 2011, and what i think is that they already drop the devices they did not want to update anymore (photon 4g, atrix 4g, electrify), maybe because these devices use the tegra 2 platform and it was a pain in the ass for them working for 2 different platforms...
now, we have the bionic, atrix 2, razr , etc they were launched from september to november of 2011, all of them have the same platform.. ti-omap, same camera, 1gb ram, etc.. and if you consider a newer device like the electrify 2 launched this year, you can see that it is almost identical to the atrix 2 in specs.
considering this facts, i think we must be on the list to get jellybean.
impossible, I do not trust Motorola and rehabilitation service and better deal with the customer. after LG, Motorola is perhaps the worst company smart phone manufacturing. I like that even if only by shame liberated the bootloader.

From the horse's mouth (though with Motorola of late I might be more inclined to say from elsewhere)-
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/ci/documents/detail/2/motorola-jelly-bean-rebate_en-US
My money is on them putting out a bloated version of Jelly Bean just to say they did.
My own pet theory is that Moto EOL'd some 2011 phones partly because they required more work to develop for(512MB RAM or Tegra architecture) and to make it easier to fullfill the JB promise for remaining 2011 phones, just so they can say "But we do care about our customers!".

you will have to add the atrix 2 to that list, motorola just released their new upgrade program and we are not getting jellybean!!!
https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c
I don't get why A2 wasn't included. Isnt the A2 rougly the same product class as the Bionic?
EDIT:I've got an axe to grind with Motorola mobility now.
Motorola is certainly inconsistent with their Jelly Bean promise for most 2011 phones announced some 6 weeks ago. Only two phones are listed as upgradable to Jelly bean I can count six 2011 phones off the top of my head (A2, Razr, Bionic, Photon, Droid 3, X2). Thats about two models short of most. Since messages are logged I encourage everyone to express their disappointment at the Motorolas Google+ page http://plus.google.com/+Motorola and the customer chat https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat_launch/
It's also a good idea to spam their twitter and facebook pages. Every time they make some announcement about how great one of their phones is, ask why we aren't getting JB on our phones.

Guys, what's the point of racking on Motorola for (whatever) and starting discussions about speculative updates that will just end in moderator intervention? We should all just be pleased with the fact that Motorola released ICS for us, and not start another possible piss storm fueled by opinions and senses of 'what's owed to (user)'. We all know Moto, and this phone has been out for just over a year now. That being so, you know what you bought and what you should expect -judging by the trend lines and intentions of Motorola itself. Jellybean would be great for this device, but if it doesn't come, you should all know who to point the finger towards. However, each time you point a finger, there are three more pointing back to you. This means you know what you bought, and if it's worth complaining about, maybe it's a good time to look into buying a different device. My thoughts, to be taken however you all see fit...

There wasn't one "recently". I think Cadro is thinking the OTA you downloaded on the display model was for 2.20 which was released something like August. At least that was my thought. Especially for a store model, its possible that it was never updated.
maybe at&t corporate stores got a special early ota push
I don't have jelly bean yet. Im on 4.0.4,,, 2.20. I got that up date around August. The jelly bean update should be out soon, being the Rogers (Canada) just got the jelly bean update OTA. The US and Canada Htc one X have the same internals. Its just a matter of At&t and Htc finishing up. Most likely At&t takeing forever.. Ill post here if I ever get the update.
HtcOneXda-developers app
I used to compliment HTC about their timely updates and recommended this phone to many friends after they had bad Samsung experiences (myself included)...but the One X is starting to tarnish that view for me. First it was end of 2012...then end of December....then beginning of January...sigh.
I don't mean to blame HTC solely...or blame AT&T solely as I'm sure both are responsible. But the sad part is...even after this update the One X will be on 4.1.1....there's still 4.2 and 4.2.1 out there and 4.2.x brings plenty of noticeable improvements to the OS. 4.2.1 is kind of important if you like the month of December.
Is there any company left that is going to actually work at pleasing their customers with timely updates that fix security holes and bug issues? (Of course I say this as I hold a Galaxy Nexus in my hand....I just feel bad for my wife and her One X )
The latest Android is ALWAYS reserved for a brand new release phone. Exclusiveness for months has always been given.
No old phones get updates to the latest until months later. Samsung is not shipping 4.2 to GS3 and wont for months.
I remember my old Nexus One did not get the later updates until after other flagships sported it for 2-3 months.
End of 2012 is end of December 2012 and HTC shipped JB for One XL in early December. Any delays after that is 100% AT&T.
HTC shipped JB several weeks behind schedule but delivered in general in a fairly timely manner.

Don't get me wrong - I understand the company's philosophy on it and will concede that AT&T is most likely the hold up. I guess in my mind I didn't hold the international One X and US/Canada One X in the same category since they have different processors. But you're right....certain regions of the world did get JB by the end of 2012.
It's an odd switch for Samsung to release the JB update earlier to the SGS3 than HTC. Especially since the SGS 3 came out almost a month after the One X. All my point was = traditionally HTC has a good reputation of getting updates out before other manufacturers. Other manufacturers (in my opinion Samsung) have not had such a good reputation on updates. Just sad to see them start to loose that edge they used to have.
I'll be looking out for it as well. I know my wife's One X has some problems that I'm hoping will be fixed in the JB update.
HTC has bowed down to att for everything about this phone. They have failed their consumers.

. I guess in my mind I didn't hold the international One X and US/Canada One X in the same category since they have different processors.

I am not talking about the international one x. I am talking about one xl's which are the same phone as AT&T one x.
Evita phones which are identicle to AT&T one x got jb in early December.
Every floor model I've looked at was either 1.73 or 1.85 so 100% chance it was the 2.20 update
