Have you tried even searching for answers? If not you should, and do some research first. Doing some stupid stuff with your phone can have some consequences.
Follow these steps below (read first before doing it):
1. If you want to be on the safe side you can backup your files and put them in your computer. You can use an app in the market or you can do it yourself (Copy and pasting).
[OPTIONAL]2. You can factory data reset your phone to remove bad stuff when rooting. But its up to the user, I had paranoia since I bricked my first SGS4G.
3. We can now start the rooting process. You can go and download superoneclick: shortfuse[.org]/?page_id=2
4. When downloaded extract those files somewhere inside a folder.
(Just to let those people that have been living under the rock, SOC auto installs drivers)
5. If you have Windows 7 or Vista, you have to run it as an administrator.
6. Once SOC is up and running, DO NOT CHANGE ANY DAMN THING!
7. Go grab your phone, go into Settings > Application > Development > Check ON USB debugging. While in settings go unmount your SD card. This is a crucial step!
8. Go grab your USB wire, plug your phone and plug the other end of the wire to the computer, DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING IN THE PHONE! Just leave it as it is.
9. If Windows gets a pop-up message in the bottom saying "Installing device..." let it finish.
10. It's time to root and time is not always predictable, close all programs in your computer so it doesn't take up processing. Click "Root" in SuperOneclick, it should start the rooting process, if for some reason it "Stops Responding" DON'T TOUCH A DAMN THING! Let it do it's work! If its not responding its probably sleeping or overwhelmed with Zerglings! That is normal!
11. When its finished go live happily ever after. It's a good idea to let the phone rest for 10 minutes since I assure you, the phone will lag.

Hmm now I'm too scared to root my phone :-/
Mybe ill pay someone to do it for me...that's the scariest write up I've ever seen.

Im sure it would work. However people need to be comfortable with doing it. Handing them a fish sandwich when they ask how to fish is counter-productive.

I agree! That's how come I was so confused and stupid when I first found this site. I followed a video tut for rooting, and they just showed you everything to click with d/l links and all. They never bothered to explain ANYTHING. I was lost as hell.
OP, you look to be in the same boat so if you would like to know what all I did after I rooted and how I got to start learning, search for a thread called "Followed a video tut for rooting"

How to Root G2X

I am coming from Dell Streak, I hope someone would post step by step instructions on how to root this wonderful device. Maybe the nods would provide a "How to" section keep this forum neat so that people would know where to go when they need something. Like how to root, how to do nandroid backup, how to flash a Rom etc.

I'm sure guides will come, but for now, the only one is how to root the device. Look in the development section. It's like 4 steps.
Here you go bro. They already have a guide to root the G2x

Seen that already bro, thanks for the reply, gave you the thanks button! Still waiting for the unlock code from cellunlocker, unfortunately, 3g/4g does not seem to work on this device as reported by fellow at&t subscribers and news also came out that at&t launched an update for my former device. Sigh... Hope someone will be able to crack the code so we (at&t subs) could get 3g/4g on this awesome piece of device.
I just got it. posted instructions in that thread.

Rooting
Obtaining root ("administrator", or "full") access to the device. This means you can mount its internal memory partition as read/write, which lets you do various things: have USB or Wi-Fi tethering, uninstall applications you otherwise can't uninstall (e.g. the Amazon MP3 store), install applications that need root access (such as AdFree), disable the camera shutter sound (simply by deleting the shutter sound file), overclock or underclock the CPU, install and boot Debian, and so on.
With the ability to root and unroot these days, I don't know why anyone wouldn't root even just to get rid of the bloatware from t-mobile.

We all started somewhere and xda is a good place to start. Read, read, and read some more. All the answers are out there. If you follow the instructions in these forums TO THE LETTER you won't brick your device.

ok I have superoneclick downloaded and the drivers downloaded and now I don't know what to do from this point. I don't know where to install the drivers at...if I do on the computer or in the phone and if they go in the phone where do I put them at. I'm just lost and wish someone would explain it more in detail to me.

so chillll...till the next episode....
First off ...seriously chill. Like the man says as long as you follow directions to the t, you'll be fine. secondly first rule of thumb when modding...anything... dont listen to any one who says "hey TRY this!"
don't try. DO.
I know it sux, but reading is your friend. read read and read some more. GO to the android forums and read there as well(im talking like android general/development)
Chill is your friend. smoke a doob, or drink a brewski, do yoga or whatever it is you do to chill out. The last thing you wanna do is work on your phone/computer/whatever in a frenzied panic state of mind.
rooting is easy.
like the man said super one click. the way to go.
drivers? zip?
check it:
dl zip to desktop. make a folder with said file name. put zip inside. unzip.
right clik and runa s administrator.
your pc will do the rest. hit run or just dbl click or whatever you gotta do
I made a folder "superoneclick" inside is the exe file which should be andy with a red glow.
BUT FIRST make sure you got usb drivers!
usb drivers? easy. No need to worry because if you dont have them your pc wont recognize the phone.
go to lg and get them. OR google. or search this forum.
DL and instal dont worry about where your computer will do that for you!
now plug in your phone
make sure usb debuging is on also probably a good idea to set the "allow unknown aplications"
do not hit "mass storage"
your GTG!
now hit S1C
it should recognize your phone
hit root!
DONE !
Woot!
easy no?
I hate to be an ass but if you are that nervous about it maybe you should wait.
spend a few days reading and when you are confortable....root that bizNATCH!
root rules but....its not the end of the world if you dont have it.

Anyway to gain temproot for now?

Hey,
I was wondering, is there anyway to gain temproot until we have full root? Am I right in thinking that temproot allows programs requiring root access to work e.g. AdFree?
Thanks

Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
credits to this guide: http://www.zenilshroff.com/how-to-root-htc-sensation-android-2-3-gingerbread-smartphone/
1. First download the Gingerbreak.apk file.
2. Save on your computers desktop.
3. Connect the phone to your computer. (do not connect using htc sync)
4. Mount SD card as flash drive as you generally do for USB cable file transfers.
5. Copy the downloaded Gingerbread apk file to SD card root.
6. You should have any File Manager (e.g., Astro File Manager) on your phone. If not, download from Market. These are generally free apps.
7. Disconnect your phone from computer and launch File Manager. You will find in the menu of the phone.
8. Follow the onscreen instructions on File Manager to install APK to your phone from SD card root. You may also use the default application installer software to do this.
9. After installation completes, open the APK.
10. Press ‘root’ button. Simple, isn’t it?
11. The APK exploit will run for some time. Usually it runs for around 10 minutes. Your phone will be rebooted. In case it takes more than ten minutes for auto reboot, please reboot it yourself. Not to panic, this happens a lot of times.
12. Your device is now rooted. Congrats!
13. Make sure that SuperUser app is installed and is running. This is very important for you to enjoy the benefits of rooting.
In order to test if your phone has been successfully rooted, just click a screenshot of your phone. That should show that your phone has been rooted.
Yeah, but does it REALLY work?

Gingerbreak exploit is patched on the SGS II so doubt that will work. Also if phone needs to reboot, no way will root persist due to signed locked bootloader. Go ahead and try but we will need some L33t devs to break this phone.

It would be great if we could get this partial root. I personally don't mind not being able to flash custom ROM, but it is very important to me to be able to use some apps that require root permissions like adfree or titanium backup. From what I understand, this 'half-root' should not be very difficult to achieve cause it is not needed to mess with the bootloader for this purpose. The only requirement is to be able to uninstall htc sync for some time.
Here also a link detailing the differences between root levels and clarifying vocabulary. I am posting this cause it has been very useful for me to help understand, so it might also serves others..

Hey, guys, I feel very inadequate in here so I was wondering if anyone would be willing to Skype with me on how to root, flash, etc. on my phone. I ask for Skype because I truly know next to nothing in regards to this process. I vaguely understand what rooting does but I have never done any of it.
I have been patient with my g2x and am still on my original one(hoping that LG or TMO would do what was right by it's customers) but after the recent news that they "might" start doing internal testing after having pulled our legs with this whole "by summer" nonsense, I have decided to try to correct their mistakes for now.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yep, you've totally scared yourself. Don't worry, I did it with my G1. Read, read, read. Then use the one click great app to root your phone then use TGA's thread to put CWM recovery on it.
If you're gonna do this stuff you gotta trust that you know what you're doing (unless there's something you really don't understand). Else you'll never do it.
And I don't think I've seen a thread about a really bricked phone. So relax and use the source young Skywalker.

Easy, download AmonRA recovery and follow youtube video directions. pretty much, download amonra, put on sd card, insert sd card, Power down, then press powerbutton+volume down, brings you to hboot menu....then you look for hboot usb, press volume down, then youre rooted.
First 2 times in rootet, i did it with this htc legend, took a few hours and yet didn't work, but afterwards in went to theunlocker guide and piece of cake it was, i even have to tell im running @ 806 mhz stable, even if found the biggest stable clock on legend to 768 mhz good luck

Ok, I downloaded SuperOneClick(haven't ran it yet) but I want to make sure I dl'd the right one. I dl'd the last and biggest one offered. SuperOneClickv1.9.5-ShortFuse.Driver.rar
Is that the right one?

Root sidekick quick and easy. One click with recovery

Guys so i wanted to root my phone and
1) i just didnt have to patience to do all the work
2) i didnt get some stuff
3) and i wanted to do this quickly and effectively
i found this youtube video after like an hour of searching and it worked GREAT. [Video and end of post]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
pretty much the instructions are to:
Download the drivers first *NECESARRY*******IMPORTANT. this is one of the ke things cause without this is wont work in the beginning
*JUST A MENTION*
i tried doing this on my 64 bit system and it wasnt as easy when i did it on my 32 bit.
so it could have just been my comp.
just a heads up.
64 bit driver:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
32 bit.
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
After that you're going to download this file:
http://tinyurl.com/Sidekick4GALLinOne
this is the file/folder whatever that will root your sidekick and add the CWM.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^REQUIRES WINRAR^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok so to start rooting and the CWM
1) You're going to install the the driver that you download...64 bit or 32 bit etc.
2) after that you're going to set your phone to "USB DEBUGGING" when connect and ofcourse
connect your phone
after that your open up the folder thats called "sk4g root with good recovery"
3) ignore everything you see and just go straight to run.bat
4) click it and then wait, "Press any key to continue" press anything
5) let the thing run and you should be set at the end.
ENJOY
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
your phone will reboot during the process and that is ok
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
if your doing this to install a new rom i recommend ayoteddy's GingerCloneV2. if great and has barly any glitches

You cqnt just flash cwm from rom manager, you have to trick the phone into booting into a cwm "clone" there is a thread on how to do his, I am in class now, but when I get out I will post the link, or you may be able to find it.
Edit here u go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=

Beware! Softpedia installs malware on your computer.
The file 'C:\Users\\Sk4g_root_with_good_recovery\Sk4g root with good recovery\rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin'
contained a virus or unwanted program 'EXP/Agent.5392' [exploit]
Action(s) taken:
The file was moved to the quarantine directory under the name '4a696fda.qua'.
Just sayin'.
Lol that is from the super click website it root phone

This phone doesn't have much of a life left anymore anyway. Most people have already left. The phone was a great idea, just needed to have better specs and have a more open source. Right now its just on it's last breath. Kinda makes me sad, the keyboard was amazing. The doubleplays keyboard doesn't even compare. But I couldn't handle how slow a single core CPU is. As with most people.

[Q] Acidentally started rooting my phone, SuperOneClick got stuck

So, a few minutes ago I was messing around on SuperOneClick before rooting my phone (it was not connected at this point). I went to take a shower, came back and plugged in my phone to transfer some music I had sitting on my PC. However, I had forgotten that I was playing with SuperOneClick and it was still open, so when I plugged in my phone it just started the rooting procedure on it's own
Now, about 15 minutes later and I'm stuck at this screen:
u.cubeupload. com /Samuka97/what.png (remove the spaces, I'm sorry but I'd rather not brick my phone than care about anti-spam measures)
The phone is on and I can use it normally, but I'm afraid to unplug it and I don't know what I should do for the procedure to continue, so I figured it was better to ask here instead of mourning over a bricked phone later.
TL;DR: Accidental rooting procedure got stuck as shown in above picture, what do?
Use this, this is way easyier just follow the steps.

I'll check it out, but for now: is it safe to unplug my phone now?
I used super one click for my girlfriend. It works well, only it doesn't install cwm. So I would suggest doing it the "hard way" get cwm properly installed so you don't have to rely on rom manager. If you really want to use super one click try looking up if your firmware even works with it then try another exploit.
