Okay, I don't think this has been asked a million times; yet!
I am currently running SKYICS 4.2E-17(ULCE2) on my Rogers Skyrocket on the Bell network and the rom is fantastic and runs very well.
My question is, are there any big benefits to changing over to SKYICS (R-UXCLF3 BASE) 4.2F or should I just leave well enough alone and stay.
I see lots of people having great success on both.
Make a nandroid and try it out. Maybe you'll like it even more. And if not just nandroid back.

Yeah I would make backups then try it out. There are so many choices in roms that I sometimes end up with 3-4 different ones lol but I check which one works to my liking and stick with that one.

I'd wait a little while. The Rogers Rom was released not even a week ago and while Seanz is a good developer, they're still ironing out some of the bugs and tweaking for performance. I'd say wait until at least July 1, as he is updating the code nearly daily at this point. By then some of the bigger issues should be all fixed.

there were no big issues as its based off his 4.2e rom and sean cherry picked alot of stuff off of rogers ics, the minor issue was with twux, every major item on the phone worked, like calls data wifi bt.
when coming from a backup u have to flash the radio seperatly as its not part of a nandroid, if its ucle2 then flash it according to seans 4.2e thread. btw sean wont be working on 4.2e anymore(as far as i know), so any future updates will be for 4.2f
This boils down to "X>Y?" and I do not allow them. Read try and make that decision yourself. Locked.

I've read through the threads on all the forums, and nothing definitive yet. Also things are changing so fast over the last few days, I figured this needed asking.
I'm hearing people say that some of the zip cooked ROMs can be installed on the 727R but only if you have the leak installed first with ODIN.
When I go through the leaked ROM thread, it says it doesn't work on Roger's Skyrockets.
So is there any way to take a stock, or non-stock GB ROM and get either the leaked ROM or a cooked ROM onto a 727R?

but to be honest my battery has been draining alot with this leak. also seems alot unstable atm. i know go ahead bash me but ive tried every rom to see if it would settle or be stable. but none so far and im just wondering if this leak is a problem for canadians or for "rogers" especially.

+1 today it's been unstable for me a lot and the battery leak is still happening
I think there may be slight differences between the Skyrocket & Rogers version, that only Samsung know about.
One only has to look at the Samsung Focus 1.3 & 1.4 revisions. Both are identical except for a minor difference, but it caused major headaches for MS when pushing updates. It wouldn't surprise me if Samsung does the same on the Android side.
So with this leak your running an unfinished ROM, & one that may not be intended for your revision of hardware
i think that could very well be true. because of this battery drain 2-3% every less than half hour is like does this rom really feel it should be like this. also reboot issues, rom hanging in here & there, its not about the "work-around" but actual work seems very unstable. their devs are even soo stupid that when i ripped dialer.apk they spelled dailer in 1 of the imgs rather then dialer..it made me laugh soo hard..

I've tried this version, Mostly worked ok but my caller ID stopped working?
I'm a newb so I can't post over there to find out if anyone else saw the same issue... maybe I did something wrong but everything else seemed to be great?

If you are on Rogers, flash the thing from the second post then flash any of the other ICS ROMs.

My ROM was running Malice from T989, with Streamline Kernel.
1)Backup!
2)Factory Reset
3)Advanced - Wipe Dalvik
4)Manual reset: - Mounts and storage, Format system,data & cache
5)Flash UCLA4 ICS radio
6)Flash the ICSMOD5_wipe version
7)Boot
8)Wait...wait even more...don't panic...
9)Enjoy
Everything including data and gps, and time issues were okay.
On the apex launcher, the messenger icon is bonked, just remove the shortcut and put the messaging shortcut again.
Wifi Tether: Starts up via toggle mod, can set password and stuff, computer connects to it but no data goes thru.
Will report back on battery use and possible issues.
So far so good.

Thanks... i tried that but i couldn't get an LTE signal.. the best i got was 1 bar of just signal..
i usually get 45mbps download speeds in my area... I'll try it again elsewhere..

+ 1, actually this has become my daily driver. There are some quirks as in callerid coming in from a telus cell but other than that everything else is solid. Also got lte to kind of work but it's just been started to get setup in my area lol.

I've been running Smooth Ice for almost 2 weeks with no issues. The first ROM I used to upgrade from GB was the one just called 'Working Rogers ICS ROM', or something like that. I used Superlite and then went to Smooth Ice and have no complaints.
well not to put my team's rom up. but if you use our rom after we're gonna update today you are not gonna wanna leave it =).. you think you had enough with other roms. haha you have seen nothing yet.

I have been following with building anticipation since the leak, but since the Fiscall Year was coming to a close at work I didn't dare begin experimenting for fear of getting sidetracked and losing what little sleep time I had left.
I would really like to hear the pros and cons of some of the various flavours of ICS now available in the "Skyrocket's One Stop Shop for All Things ICS 4.0!" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1573218 thread...
I'm on Rogers, and am especially interested in things like best radio for sound quality and LTE txfer speeds (there are only 2 so far right?), and what apps specifically are removed from the "debloat" versions... I obviously have zero need for ATT apps, but some of the Samsung bloatware might still be useful to me. Can TW be tossed out and replaced just as easily as with GB? I've been pleased with ADW EX, and would probably stick with it unless there's something more ICSish with as much functionality?
Of course I (and others I'm sure) would love to hear anything you have to offer about speed, interface, quality, bugs, workarounds, etc... I have tried to piece it together from the various ROM threads, but first hand comparisons between the ROMS don't seem to be there.
If there's another compare and contrast thread I apologize, but I did in fact search for "Pros and Cons", and "Rom Differences", and "ICS Comparison", but didn't come up with anything Skyrocket except GB stuff.
Thanks in advance for any comparisons you folks have to offer up.

1st attempt
Well there were no takers to post their experiences, so I figured I'd go ahead and start logging my own attempts...
Tried Silver's ROM collectiveics.zip first because it looked to be the easiest and least risky but no joy for me.
I backed everything up and flashed as per the instructions and got a boot loop.
Used recovery to wipe but still no success.
Restored my original stock Rogers GB ROM.
Then tried again with his themed version (collectiveics3.zip) but had exactly the same experience but this time also tried flashing ics kernal when the boot loop happened... no change.
Restored again.
I reported it in the appropriate thread and see that a few others have the same issue... Silver asked for ROM, and CWM version to try and isolate a common issue. I see others having the problem have also responded.
I was using CWM version 5.0.2.7 and from what I can see, so were others... I flashed a different CWM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1472954 ) this morning and will try flashing Silver again after work. If it still doesn't work, I will move on to a different ROM and report the experience back here again. (I WILL tell you if it worked too of course)

I have tried several of the ICS roms thus far, and the only one that I have had zero problems with has been the MHX Superlite 4.2. I really liked the look of the Nexusmod ICS rom, and the trebuchet launcher included, but it was a bit buggy and I could never get fix permissions to run, either. I have noticed that every time I flash a rom now, it takes a bit longer than the time before for the phone to settle after the initial boot.
my understanding is thus.
(there is no harm flashing nandroids back forth)
so long got nandroid no problem from there..
Best gb rom. QuickWiz never updated.
2nd best gb rom silver (for looks alone lol)

WHEN ics roms are considered my understanding is this. There not up to par for a daily driver yet. Sure they work but your going to have a problem with something. Now I never tried one but off of what others say your going to have issues with at least one part of it so I say why bother? Wait a bit longer for them to stabalize. Im going try gb mx rom think going be the one I want.
Sucks though I love the theme on silver.... guess could stick to it. Im ocd about roms I want them perfect

One thing I think is very important that a lot of people overlook when flashing - USE DARKSIDE SUPER WIPE! Whether you're going from GB to ICS or simplying upgrading from existing ICS, as long as it's a full-wipe ROM, Darkside it. I've been able to escape a lot of common FC problems by doing so.

I've held off so far on ICS but i think I'll get my feet wet this weekend. Strange you recommend darkside wipe. I'm certain Silver said not to darkside wipe for his ICS rom. There does seem to be a disconnect between some of the instructions and results people are having thus . I guess this is to be expected at this point.
I "darkside wipe" religeouslybefore every full wipe rom flash and never experience the fc's (@least not from leftover data).

I have flashed the following three ics roms on my rogers i727r and here were my results (They may vary and be different from yours this is just MY experience)
1. Nexus ICS Beta 3
Pros:
-Beautiful themeing done by M0D
-Very stable and dependable as dd
Cons:
-Battery Life was not so great for me
2. SuperLite 4.2
Pros:
-Stable and reliable
-Strong ROM support by mhx
-Great battery life
Cons:
-Not AOSP feelish like other roms (you can always flash a theme and be happy though )
3. SensatioN
Pros:
-Fast!
-Strong dev and theme support by the pair
-Quick response to questions and concerns
Cons:
-I am not much for the theme right now (waiting for wail01x to drop his next beta)
-Full of bloat off the start takes some heavy removal (my opinion)
Thats it for me so far will report later after i feed the addiction of ORD

Try using cwm touch for flashing.
I'm on nexus ics and it looks great. No real major bugs so I'm using it as a daily driver. I can't comment on battery life yet but I will once I cycle a few times. Doesn't seem as snappy as gb roms though.

I also do this religiously and have had great luck with it. However, it never fixed the nexus ICS install for me, and I tried flashing it several times on a couple of download tries with issues.
I've upgraded to MHX 4.3 today, and it seems to be great as a daily driver. It's smooth, fast, and tiny. Apex launcher is nice, too.
Update
Flashed the latest Odin version of CWM, and as I type, I've got a full backup going for archive to my PC so I can try the MHX Superlite 4.5 ('cause it's a full wipe flash)
I will report back the results in a bit but had to do something while I wait for the backup...
IF it works OK my next step will be the UCLC5 modem... Wish me luck ;-)

Well... So far so good. Flash went well and in the process of restoring apps... Liked Silver's theme but MHX seems more stable so far... Will edit again when the apps are working...

UCALC5 modem seems to have increased my reception at the cost of useability... LONG pauses between every screen change... going to flash is again and if it doesn't settle in I'll either go back to 4 or erstore GB again... have to drive a thousand km tomorrow and can't have an "iffy" phone.

Working ICS
I could not make things work with the UCALC5 modem. It just wouldn't play nice with any ROM I flashed... Superlight was working but the modem killed it... reflashed the UCALC4 modem and then flashed the collective ROM and I have a working ICS phone Had to get a TiBu update to get my apps back because the one in the ROM is broken but now my apps are restored and all is right with the world (but I need to get used to Apex I think... and set it all up... Anxiously awaiting his updated one.
Aargh... Should have installed most of the apps from the market... acore keeps FCing on me again now. I suspect it's got something to do with the data restore... Thought I was careful about what I let it restore but I must have let something slip through that it doesn't like... sure is tough to sign on to the market to try and update Apex when your keyboard keeps dissapearing before you have your gmail password typed. :-(
most roms doesnt have battery roms. and the ones that do, (ICS), have the shutdown/reboot issue.
I've tried all of the different ICS roms available to us as of today. I'm really beginning to think that even following install directions to the letter will still give varied results for different people. Probably many small factors that cause this to happen. I've personally had many issues with lag and freezing of user and system apps, even after multiple installs with multiple wipes on each ROM. The only ROM so far that has been the most problem free is the Superlite ROM in my experience. I'm two days on it now and not had even one single bit of lag and zero freezing. I can't say any of the other ICS roms have had the same solid results as this.

Yah I have wanted to root and flash an ICS ROM for my Rogers i727R lately but none seem stable enough that I would be happy with the results. I will prolly wait for the OTA ICS update from Rogers . God knows when that will be. Then i will root seems like the best bet at this point

Im rooted and I am about to flash a new kernel, Im not going to do any romming yet since the ICS update should be coming by the end of the month (should be). I was just wondering what is the best modem/radio for the skyrocket. I currently have UCLA3 and I live in Grand rapids, MI. I dont believe we get LTE here, but I am usually on 4G. I searched but couldnt really find anything solid. Thanks!
You already have latest GB radio UCLA3.
I like the ucle2 radio on all roms. My favorite combo is nexus mod gb 4.3 with that radio and the faux kernel.
But everyone has different results in different geographic locations, it seems. Ucla3 is known to be a very good radio in most areas.
I don't have lte in my area either...

Yeah.. I wouldn't count on it coming out anytime soon... AT&T being AT&T and all. That bloatware doesn't install itself.
That being said, I travel around the midwest a fair bit and have found UCLE2 to work quite well.
I would stick with UCLA3. It has awesome battery life. There are plenty of awesome roms built around this too. I liked Stock Mod 2. With the faux kernel of course.
Might as well try a ROM, it was the radio change that made my Kies say "this device is not supported" . After I flashed the original ROM and kernel, it wasn't until I flashed the radios back, then it said" this is the latest firmware"

If you're already rooted and flashing kernels why not just flash a rom? I highly doubt the ics update gonna come by the end of the month but even if it does you'll probably end up trying a few different iterations of it from the different devs here... It's kinda like a new phone everytime you flash...lol Especially since cm9, aokp and aosp are kinda close to being ready as well...

Just curious about what you guys thing would be suitable for a DD for my girl's phone. I don't want to have to be updating it all the time for her. I just want the bloat gone and something stable for her so she doesn't come have to come to me about issues and bugs.

I would say SkyICS or CM9 though since ics isn't officially out the builds we have may still have some bugs here and there. For me personally I've been using skyics no prob though recently I've been playing with cm9 and fell in love with it. Still on nightly though so there will be constant updates but those dont usually require wipes. Check the threads to see what other users are saying
Edit: I would try checking out other roms for their features and some themes.

What is your wife used to? Has she used a Samsung phone before? Is she familiar with TouchWiz?
SkyICS is pretty much the cream of the crop when it comes to OEM-based ROMs from my experience. It's smooth, stable, and has the best flavor of TouchWiz in ICS in my opinion. The developer is dedicated to it too, so there will for the time-being be lots of updates and bug fixes going forward. If that's what she's used to, then that would be my recommendation.
I am have not tried SkyICS, but i finally made the jump to CM9 when the nightly became official for SkyRocket. Let me say I am a happy camper, CM9 looks great especially after adding CM9 Super Amoled theme. Have not run into one error and no phone lock ups. Battery is good too.

CM9 is a great, great ROM, as is AOKP and many of the others. But when you're looking for a ROM that is both familiar and error free to someone who is not a phone geek like us, then you want to stick with something that person knows. I've been married for 12 years and I am my wife's personal IT guy so trust me, don't throw her a huge curve ball unless you want to spend a lot of time explaining things to her.
I bought my wife her first MacBook a few years ago thinking that it would be simple and intuitive and "just work" for her; the next two months were spent showing and re-showing her how to do things on that stupid computer. My wife is a smart woman who does some pretty amazing things, but tech stuff just isn't her area.
With the official release of ICS for canada's skyrocket there most likely be a port or ATT should follow soon whichever comes first but then there will also be more roms coming out that will be more stable/less bugs.

^This exactly. throw her stock for a while until we get some nice official ics roms kicking...
Or show her what AOSP is all about . though she may have to learn a new things. show her some screen shots of both and try and explain the differences and see whether she likes AOSP (which is beautiful. why would samsung even take their time to ruin it?) or stock.
Hello, I finally got my wife to agree to let me root and put a custom rom on her infuse, currently running froyo. I just rooted it last night and was looking around for some stable ICS roms. I found lots of discussions about which roms were best but had a somewhat more difficult time finding the links to said roms. And stability is a must here as she knows absolutely nothing about messing around with phones. Also GPS and Bluetooth are absolute musts as well. She finally agreed to let me do this after seeing galaxy s2 running CM9. So I was kinda leaning towards a cm9 rom, a lot of the ones I saw though listed Bluetooth problems so I was wondering whose cm9 would be best for what I'm looking for here. That being said I am open to all stable ICS roms, not just tunnel visioned on cm9. So, if you all give me some good stable ICS rom, and their links, I would be very grateful. Thanks!

Just my 2 cents worth.......been d/l ROMs since GB........the JB ROMs that are out now are more stable than ICS.
Edit: biggest problem is, most of the Devs have moved on to JB.
ICS and jb both have camera recording problems... so jwep that in mind, jb has a slow but working GPS

In addition to the above comments. I would also caution you about future wife beatings and crazy ass tandrums if your giving a rooted phone to her. I know your asking about ICS, and some are suggesting Jellybean, however the best thing you can do for her is to put a rooted Gingerbread ROM like the following and just yank out whatever junk you don't want and keep it running smoother then stock!:
- Infused 2.2.3 (Extremely stable ROM that i used as my daily driver without incident for almost a year! Disadvantage is that it is no longer being developed. But really, it doesn't need anything else done to it.. absolutely everything just works!)
- Aeon (This is one of the newer Gingerbread ROM's that is still being updated and mantained. Also a very stable ROM where everything just works. The downside in my opinion is the Themeinig that is build into the ROM. Great for most, but not for everyone.)
Both of the above are excellent choices for a wife! And they are both built off of stock firmware so everything works.
Believe me, i would normally never reccomend someone go back to Gingerbread, but as she is coming from Froyo she will notice a big improvement. Also, from one man to the next. I can tell you, my bigest mistake was replacing my wifes crack berry with my older rooted X10. It was great for me, but for her she just wants things to work. The second something doesn't work, she turns into the hulk! I absolutely love to tinker and i'm never done messing with my phone, but don't assume your wife will appreciate the challenges as much as you would! I ended up just putting it back to bone stock and gave it to her with the understanding that she was not to complain to me anymore! LOL
Oh one last thing.. the saying really is true.. "A happy Wife is a happy Life!" LOL
