[Q] Tethering with Sprint - HTC 7 Pro

I used to love messing around with my Touch Pro 2, had much fun trying out different ROMs and customizing my phone. So I was kinda bummed when I got my 7 Pro last year and I found that all the hard working ROM developers had to start from stratch. The biggest disappointment was that I could no longer use my phone to connect my laptop to the internet when away from home. Checking out this forum, I'm glad to see there's ROMs released into the wild now! But before I jump on in again, I was wondering: how stable the ROMs are and if I'll be able to tether?

im running the dft freedom 8107 rom and I haven't experienced any problems. Internet sharing is enabled and works great on that rom. I also tried the dft tango rom but the internet sharing wasn't enabled so I switched back to 8107.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I did a search for that ROM and found this link: [EDIT: can't post links yet] [hotfile.com/dl/145358405/901702a/DFT_Freedom_Gold_V4_8107_22_langs.7z.html]
Just wanted to check that that would be the correct ROM for a Sprint HTC Arrive before I mess anything up.
Any recommended guides for the unlocking process?

this thread is probably a good place to start:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562561
Make sure the rom you use is for gold c (that is the codename for the arrive) It looks like the one you posted is for the gold version (7 pro).
You should be able to find all the info you need in the 7 pro development forum.

jgdorado;1873942]I'm recieving a TYTN II tomarrow locked to ATT. I'm using t-mobile here in Florida. I want to completely eliminate any reference to ATT and run whatever rom's would provide the best of the best. So please entertain my questions as this may quite help many others who are trying to get the big pcture........
1) can I use Win2000Pro(sp4+) for these procedures
2) Should I 1st use Kaiser Super CID unlocker, or CID unlocker 1st?
3) then do I run the HardSPL v1
4) Then it appears that I should run this sim-unlocker
5) Then it appears that I need to load some form of other ROM i.e. Schwab cooked, Dutty V.4RTM or what do you folks suggest is best?
I assume WM6 remains untouched??? and the other operations like GPS, WiFi, etc??
Please treat the above as questions. I'm seeking your advice

You are getting no response because the other members are being nice, and not to flame at you. Your answers are the first 8 stickies in the Kaiser Upgrade forum.
Fellow Floridian here. Hopefully you're a Gator fan. Consider this your freebie .
Flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679. You'll then be CID unlocked and have the ability to flash another ROM. If you have any issues, start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=361039 This is the SIM unlocker that everyone has used. I have not used it because mine could be unlocked via AT&T.
Then read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=356895, the wiki and the stickies before flashing. Remember, you can brick your phone if you are not sure of what you are doing. Take a day or two to read as much as possible. That being said, the chefs have made it super easy.
As for ROMs, they truly are opinion. Everyone has their own needs. I like clean ROMs and don't use things like cubes. Currently using Q-Mobile 1.2. Just flashed from Dutty's V2 medium. Loved them both. Also really liked Alex's and Custel's. Even tried Jack's for a while and liked it. The differences are often minute and sometimes even just perception about speed and performance. Someone recently did a performance review of a bunch of ROMs - there's an excel file around here somewhere. I have spent a couple of months trying to find my ideal and may never (as fast as great new ROMs come out here.) It's an addiction. Go ahead - take your first hit.
Again thanks for your answers.
I get the fact that I need to CID and Sim unlock the phone 1st. What I'm not quite getting are the different ROM's. I must assume the phone has one for its out-of-box operation. So when I flash a new rom does it overwrite the old one or does the old need to be unloaded (saved somewhere??). Does the WM6 remain untouched? How about the other features of the phone like GPS, WiFi, MP3, 3G, GPRS, etc-etc? Are they part of the rom or hardware withing the circuitry
After all the reading (2 weeks now) these items remain unclear to me. Thanks for not flaming at me, but if in the midst an answer is unveiled....I have thick skin
I feel like I'm getting somewhere and this thread will help others too.

Well, flashing a ROM means to replace the default operating system with a modified one, so, the answer is yes to your question whether or not WM6 is touched. No matter what ROM you flash, you will have GPS, WiFi, MP3, 3G, GPRS, etc-etc. Think of it this way: You will still have your CD-ROM drive, your ethernet card, etc. if you reinstall Windows or upgrade to another version.
Think of a ROM as a full hard drive image. On your laptop you have Windows XP, Office and a bunch of other programs. But you like your buddy's setup better. He tweaked his registry and has chosen free programs that you like better, etc. So you are using his full hard drive image and overwriting yours. You'll be using his copy of Windows XP, but it will be legal because you have a key that came with your machine.
The ROMs here overwrite everything. They include everything basic you need to run your PPC and have tweaked the settings and registry keys to get the most out of all of your equipment. The differences are in those tweaks and then the programs they add on. Check out Alex's new wiki. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Alex's ROMs He gives a great idea of the range of ROM options...everything from the absolute basics (all hardware works and comes with the supporting software but you get to add everything else you want, including Office - so this basically equates to just a windows install for your laptop) all the way to all the possible "bells and whistles" including .pdf readers, games, etc. etc. All of the programs that are add-ons to the ROMs are freeware, because XDA doesn't allow warez. As such, you may find a piece of paid software that you like better than something that is used a lot here (for example, I've purchased Opera Mobile), but you'll learn which are the best free options via the ROMs.
The beauty of ROM flashing is it's fast. Takes about ten minutes to flash a new ROM (plus time to install all your add-on programs). If you don't like the one you tried this week (or in some cases day), try a new one next week (or tomorrow). Just make sure you use the radio that is suggested with most ROMs (some include the radio, some allow you to install the radio separately - this will be documented in the post/wiki). Thus you can figure out which optional programs you like the best and use the appropriate ROM. Learning to flash is relatively easy. Figuring out which of the ROMs and other programs you like best - that takes time and it is truly individual opinion.
Edit: BTW - you do not HAVE to SIM unlock your phone before messing with ROMs. I didn't when I started because I'm using on AT&T anyway and wasn't that worried about it. FYI.
With all the reading I've been doing here I never came accross the thread you referred me to....PRICELESS (THX)

Also I now have the impression that the only reason he's made ATT vs HTC Roms has noting to do with the labeling on the phone (Mine's ATT) but only to do with using the ATT .09 radio, otherwise I can use any of the HTC roms and pick a radio that works for my T-mobile service. If I'm wrong please say so.
Also, still wondering whether I can get away with NT2000(sp4) as an OS on my pc.
im fairly certain that you will have no issue using win2k, as its the same kernal as winXP(just not as pretty), which is what most people use to do their flashing. as long as you are able to install activesync and its not vista you should be good to go.
His wiki is pretty new - perhaps that's why you haven't seen it yet. Again, there will be 20 people on here that will swear the ROM they use is the best. You could go equally well starting with Dutty's work (or Q-Mobile or whichever). However, Alex's work is topnotch and as good a place to start as any of the top cooks.
Without knowing precisely, I believe he made the AT&T versions because he's in the U.S. and probably uses AT&T himself. His AT&T versions use the standard AT&T radio and come preconfigured with all the standard AT&T Medianet settings. I've flashed both versions and they work great (I'm on AT&T). But, yes, in your case I would use the standard HTC ROMs.
Good luck.
P.S. As for your PC OS, not really sure. Too much of a newbie for that one myself. Have only heard about specific problems with Vista, but it seems they've made a fix for that. My guess is that you're fine (I know it's the same kernel as XP), but if you're concerned try Pof to find out about HardSPL.
thanks for all the input.....
Here's my new dilemma
It's a G4....so now I need to find nothing but G4 soft/hardSPL along with G4 Rom's and of Unlock the SIM of a G4
That's a Wizard variant. Check the Wizard forum. I think there's also a G4 specific area. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=343
will that work for the Kaiser/Tytn II/ tilt?
I was reading about the Wizard but nothing from there was actually working on my phone
I'm befuddled. Do you have a Tilt/Kaiser/TYTN II or a G4? Perhaps I didn't understand your previous post. No, the Tilt stuff will not work on the G4 and the G4 stuff will not work on the Tilt. Different units/different hardware/different CID unlock/different ROMs.
Do you have a Tilt/Kaiser/TYTN II or a G4?

they are the same. The Tilt/Kaiser/TYTN II comes in both the G3 and G4 versions.
So now I seek the G4 versions of the CID and SIM unlockers as well as a G4 safe ROM
Any help is greatly appreciated

new to fuze, have rom questions...

i just started browsing this site a few days and am very impressed with the whole community..
anyway, i just swapped out my samsung epix for an htc fuze and love the phone so far. I've already succesfully removed the at&t tab, fixed the small mms issue, and changed the default device.home.
thats apperently the the tip of the iceberg as far as customizing this phone goes. I am now interested in a different rom. I've noticed a lot of good things about the energyrom 2.0/3.0 and am very interested but also hesitant to flash my phone since i only just got it and dont want to void any warranties.
my quesions;
1. whats the latest energyrom 2.0 build? (maybe give me a dl link)
2. does the rom come with a bunch of apps im not gonna use?
3. Do i need to flash the radio before/after the rom or at all?
4. and which radio is best?
tia, im looking forward to learning more as this phone will do until i get the touch pro 2 or whatever comes next.
edit: i do realize there is a wiki and have been studying it, i've also seen the rom flashing for noobs section and have a rough idea that hardspl is a failsafe should anything go wrong
I'm just going to say that you need to find the answers to your own questions.
Start here.

Welcome to forums
Energy ROM is great!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536751
im still iffy on going to a 6.5 rom cause i guess its still a beta version on winmo (i think) so i was more thinkin on 6.1, i dont need newest just something different from stock but stable as well.
i was lookin at this list (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael_Cooked_WM6.1_ROMs) and noticed energyrom 2.0 build 41609 was the newest but the thread link doesnt work.
i clicked the energyrom 1.0 build 32609 thread link and it brought me to a thread for energyrom 1.0 build 41609.....is that the same as energyrom 2.0 build 41609?
i also looked around and noticed the radio is untouched with just a rom flash so ill leave that alone for now. thank you for showing me how to use google anyway.
I am using 6.5 EnergyROM. It's very stable. Try it. The radio in my signature really works well in Northern California.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536751
aight, i think i will. thanks again for the info.
i flashed the rom to the energy 6.5 rom and am pretty amazed at people are willing to do for free. now ive only messed with it for about an hour but am loving it.
the only thing im worried about is how high the memory usage will go and how the battery life is affected..

User opinion for the best rom for Verizon's HTC TP2

I receive my replacement TP2 tomorrow for Verizon's network. Just wondering what the Verizon TP2 users feel is the best/stable rom. I know everyone's opinion is different, but I'll go with the majority for my TP2. Thanks in advance for your comments.
just be sure not to use one from the GSM forum (this one)
Use the Rhodium CDMA section
I'm also interested in this.
I want to try a rom, but only one that is stable as if it came officially and fast smooth UI too of course. But I've no idea which one would fit the bill. Same I think as the OP is looking for.
It'd be nice to have a stock 6.5 os rom to try and then it'd be neat to have another with added UI manilla or whatever that is or whatever HTC has done to their UI. Also a rom with the Sense UI on it would rock. I'd even like to try that.
I've been using SSK 3.0 for the past 3 or 4 days, and it's fast, reliable, has sense ui, and hasn't had a single problem so far.
I'd reccommend it on the Verizon tp2.
Just make sure you get the Verizon keyboard fix cab, also.
Does the SSK have the MMS issue like the Juicy rom??
Well, I'm using mine on Sprint, and I've no issues in or out with mms.
I actually just got one right after I read that lol

Im using SSK 3.0. He is making an update to his rom for this weekend. It has been working great. He has added some new apps and utilities to the WinMo 6.5 Rom. I like it and will probably stick with his roms. Ive used them through the TP and TP2.
I use both Mighty Roms and Energy Roms and they both work great.

I agree... the SSK roms are great and he supports them very well through his website...
www.sskusers.net
I've had his ROMs way back on my verizon xv6800... my current TP... and I'll use his ROMs on my new TP2 that FexEx says should arrive in the mail tomorrow
what about roms that just work? no need to install anything extra to make it work?
Might ROM for me!
Energy Leo... the best
Calk's Kitchen works without anything additional installed and gives you the option to pick from 5 builds, and it's a KITCHEN!
I seem to hear a lot of good of SSK ROM's. Does SSK ROM fix anything on the TP2? What are the known issues with it so far? SSK website doesn't list issues, just what is included. I would be interested in knowing if any of the usb modem or internet sharing problems have been fixed. I know, I have been through this in another thread, I'm just a little strapped for cash when it comes to having to buy wifi hardware. I'd rather have the usb method working if possible.
I'm no newb to WM. but I am a newb to flashing. I didn't even flash my Q9M ... afraid of bricking the dumb thing with all the horror stories I heard.
One last here, I read about flashing via memory card. Is that possible with this? Thanks

WM6.5 & Battery 1% indicator

This I guess would be in regards to Telus users.
1) Has any telus user found a WM 6.5 upgrade for the TP2 from TELUS
2) 1% indicator for the battery. I had it working but it stopped after I erased my phone and started it again, even tho i reinstalled the same files as before.
i founded many telus
check this out dude...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=580354
here is the 2 rom I used and my impression about it....
Mighty Rom is crazy stable... but got manilla 2.0
i wanted to get manilla 2.5... so I jumped on Energy Rom.... work pretty sweet... not as fast as the mighty rom...on my opinion... but come with tons of handly tools...
depend on that you want
Cool.
I have a few questions. The first
1)Can we get the original Telus ROM in case I need to go back to it for warranty issues?
2) I wanna make sure I do it right so i know the first step is to unlock the phone, do we have any really good written instructions for this step?
3) Whats the best link for mighty rom and energy so i can read the details and decide which one is best for me. Plus is there a good set of instructions for flashing your ROM? I know it's fairly straight forward but i'd like to read up on it first.
4) I know the rumors for telus say that march will be when we can switch to the new HSPA network with our phones but if that don't come about is there anyway we can reprogram the radios inside the phone?
Many Thanks,
any updates?

[Q] ICS Port or Other Custom ROM

hey guys, i just got myself a nexus s (switched from a captivate, to galaxy s 2, then to nexus s) and was looking into flashing the ICS port. I had done some reading about locked and unlocked bootloaders, so i wanted to know does it matter whether the bootloader is locked or unlocked if i were to flash the ICS port? i ask because i know there are specific roms for each bootloader in the android development.
also another question, if anyone here could give me some feedback on the daily use of the ICS port, whether they are happy with it. i've watched a couple youtube videos of the recent port and it seems to work quite well, but i wouldn't mind some feedback on it first. lately ive been running MIUI, so im content just using that if the ICS port isn't at that stage yet.
thanks for any input
You didn't do much reading if you don't know the bootloader needs to be unlocked to flash a custom recovery which in turn lets you flash custom roms.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
i guess i may be wrong, but i had read this thread and figured it wasnt necessary
[GUIDE] Root & recovery WITHOUT oem unlock & wipe (2.3.2 & older, plus now 2.3) --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=931865
i realize that its for the lower versions of 2.3 but thats what it's running right now. whoever owned it before hadn't updated it. but either way that answers my question, so ill unlock it
in terms of the usability of the ics ports. I've been using Drew Garen's ports for about two weeks now. Extremely usable and stable. Its almost impossible to tell its an sdk port. His current beta 10 has everything working except for bluetooth and a slightly inaccurate gps. He said that he got a true ics rom working using the galaxy nexus dump so that should be released soonish.
Very good port indeed. However, Im having trouble to make whatsapp work properly. Contacts never shown in the app.... anyone know how to solve this?
thanks for your input guys. i did go through and read quite a bit of pages through the rom thread (worked my way from the back forward), and it seemed like it should be good enough for me. i don't really ever use bluetooth, and gps occasionally, so i should be able to manage with it. and i do use whatsapp, so ill install it tomorrow and see if i figure any solution out to your problem jpvalenz
