[Q]broken partitions brick - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I bricked my device pretty bad. The only part of my phone I can get working is download mode with a usb jig. Heimdall (I am using the one-click) is the only program that will recognize my device and it will only flash kernel and recovery and up to 9% of the FACTORYFS. Odin will not recognize my phone. Any Ideas would be much appreciated! Is there cwm that re-partitions our phone?

i may,,, have a solution
I assume you are using a recently printed pit file, or, you are using command line stuff.
If you have an old ODIN package sitting around, use that pit, and start life over again with some heimdall, "DON"T USE A ONE CLICK", manually drag files.

Ya, I actually just tried that and it didn't work so I think I will try that again and double check through device manager that only my laptop drivers are installed and nothing got left behind when uninstalling and deleting. Thank You!

[Q] Odin failing

I'm trying to flash my friend's Galaxy s 4g, but I'm having an issue with Odin failing to flash.
I originally used Vibrant 3g .pit and .tar files, not knowing it wouldn't work on the 4g model. Anyway, that semi bricked it, while still allowing it to get to the download mode.
So I figured I needed the "custom" .tar file to flash the 4g model. I booted up Odin and opened just the .tar that's in the noob guide. This time all I got from Odin is a red panel saying FAIL! It happened during the cache.rfs process. And now I get a new download mode screen. Before it used to be the android digging, now it's just an image of a phone and a computer with an exclamation mark in between the two.
When I get FAIL! on Odin, the progress bar on the phone freezes about 75% of the way.
So what am I doing wrong? Do I need a .pit file? Is it my computer? Should I try another computer? help me out please
I'm not sure about that second message you got, but did you make sure to open ODIN before flashing?
And do you also have the correct USB Drivers downloaded for your computer?

Yea, i had ODIN open before I connected the phone. And I made sure to install the correct drivers for it (It said "drivers installed successfully)
Another thing, is when I was trying to flash it thinking the regular vibrant 3g method would work, I had "Re-Partition" checked. Could that be part of the problem?
You're not supposed to have Re-Partition checked.
Refer to this guide to make sure you're doing everything right in the flashing process : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001759
Well, I have been following that guide. Step by step.
But that was after I semibricked it.
Before, I thought using the method for rooting a vibrant 3g would work for the 4g model. I guess the "Re-partition" box was checked (before I started following that "Noobs guide") and that's why I'm having problems now.
The symbol you are now seeing on your phone means you have a currupt firmware. It was most likely caused by using the vibrants pit file. If you try everything else and it still doesn't work. You may have to wait until we either have a working pit. But follow the directions on the Odin flashing instruction and keep trying.
Good luck

So, there's nothing I can do now besides keep trying? It's not my phone though... my friend was expecting it back today.
Is there a way I can get to the recovery menu and download somebody's nandroid backup to restore mine?

Sorry bud. Cwm doesn't work that way yet. And even so, I don't think you can even get into recovery mode with your problem. When you used the vibrant pit file you formatted the phone to be like the vibrant which its not. Its very similar, but different enough to cause issues.

[Q] my Samsung infuse phone isnt working right and i dont now what to do...

I first got problems when I put on Gingerbread 2.3.5 ROM. I then restored it to FROYO. Then i wanted to put on Infused v2.2.3 by gtg465x (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220088) again but i then realized as i was installing zip from recovery i didn't have enough memory on my phone so it boot loaded. I used odin3 and tried to restore my phone back to original firmware and tried the odin3s listed on xda and all them arnt working on my phone correctly. It boots up and after the boot-screen the screen goes back and the buttons light up. I have been able to get it to recovery but I tried restoring it and installing zips and the same thing has happened. I dont know what to do and how to fix this problem. Can someone please help me fix this problem?

If you aren't using a pit file make sure the repartition box is unchecked
you also might want to try a newer version of odin

Even though you are trying to flash back to stock, you should still have the update.zip for clockwork recovery on your internal sd card.... Try going into recovery, find "format system" do that then go to "reboot to download" then try flashing a rom with odin again.... Seems like you have some corruption of system files, formatting system has worked for me when I think I've really f'd up....

Put your phone into download mode and Use gtgs ultimate unbrick. Make sure you use all the included files (pit, phone and pda).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116251
Once you do that do factory reset from INSIDE the settings page in the ROM, not from recovery. After this you can re-root, install mod3e and cwm, and install custom rom again.

you can factory reset with "odin one-click". this is not available for the infuse but has been leaked for he captivate and maybe other phones. if you use the captivate oneclick odin you can use the "master clear" function when the phone is on, not in download mode. DO NOT ATEMPT TO FLASH WITH ONE CLICK ODIN. ONLY USE THE MASTER CLEAR FUNCTION.

its an open source alternative to odin. search Google. I prefer heimdall 1.1. the ui is self explainitory. 1.3 is more flexible and has the option to use heimdall specific packages with partition information and device compatibility checking.
you will need to extract the .tar from the unbrick. 7zip is good for that.
read the website for other needed software. it needs Samsung drivers and I think it needs .net framework 4 and something else. not sure. I don't use it in windows. I use it in linux
heimdall doesn't let you repartition without bootloaders for safety reasons. you might have better luck in odin with repartition selected. but heimdall is something else to try and isn't as spastic.
oh is win7 32bit or 64. 32bit version is more cooperative with Samsung drivers.

Cannot get Captivate to boot, tried everything!

Hi guys, I'm pretty good with every phone I use but I've tried everything I could think of to get the GFs Cappy to work. Her phone was pretty slow so I tried to boot into recovery and it was just a black screen. Used Heimdall to flash the zImage listed on the Cyanogen forum. It got CWM on there and from there I could never get back into CWM. Everytime I flash the zImage, it just hangs at the boot screen. Odin doesn't recognize the Captivate, I've installed and uninstalled the drivers and rebooted as well. So I'm at a complete loss as to what to do with this now. Can anyone help? I have searched and poured through all of the guides and things. I'm stuck. Thanks guys!

Tried multiple usb ports, tried as administator, Odin freezes on SetupProcedure. The files I have for stock KF1 are:
CODE_I897UCKF1_CL273832_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Kepler_odin_new_part_JE3_S1JE4.pit
MODEM_I897UCKF1_CL1017518_REV02.tar
SGH-I897-CSC-ATTKF1.tar.md5
I probably can flash them though Heimdall, but I don't know if I need all the files or where the first one goes. I'm really getting sick of trying to fix this phone, so if anyone has more suggestions, I would appreciate it.

That didn't work either. However, it looks like it's going through now. It seems like it was a driver issue and the Captivate drivers weren't working. So in one of the threads, there were other drivers for the GalaxyS and I installed, rebooted, and tried again and it's in the process of flashing. Fingers crossed! Thanks everyone!

Heimdall is more reliable and cross platform, so it's usually a better bet. You can also exclude bootloaders when using Heimdall, but not Odin unless you grab a package without bootloaders.

can you uninstall the drivers. reboot the computer. then check your device manager to make sure it is completely removed. i recommend using a program called ccleaner to wipe your computer cache and especially fix your registry. then i would reboot again. install the drivers from the bible thread. once that is done, open odin 1.85 and try plugging in the phone in download to see if it is recognized. if it is, odin the KC1 bootloaders found in fb's gb starter pack. once that is done, odin whitehawk's KD1. this sounds like a computer problem more than a phone problem.
if you are really in a bind and you need to send it into tmobile, i can do this for you.

A few potential options, hope I didn't skip anything:
The superuser app can be removed from within the Market. If it was rooted with SuperOneClick (SOC), I believe you can use SOC to remove it. Given that you're on KD1 now you can probably get the KD1 stock firmware from samfirmware.com (you have to register, though). Or, you could flash Raver's the stock KJ6 via ODIN or you could use Kies Mini to get to stock KJ6.

You could also use the KJ6 Heimdall One-Click to write KJ6 and bootloaders to clear out the 'gremlins'
Also, there is an app called: "Bluetooth Perm Test". I am not familiar with this app, so should i delete it? Because tmobile might find out the phone was rooted if this app is installed.

Can you be more specific about the error and how you tried to use the one-click?

I followed this post and ran the OneClick.jar that ultimately poped up a One-Click unbrick. when i pressed unsoft brick button it just failed.
Im trying to flash the ROM using Odin but it keeps failing at modem.bin and when i load the same ROM in heimdall it says firmware.xml not found.
You cant flash an Odin rom with heimdall

When it fails, it should give an error message of some kind. I'm not sure which one you're trying, but give this a shot:
[Heimdall][One-Click] The T959V Heimdall One-Click Collection [05/20/2012]
Follow the instructions on that post and it should allow you to get back to stock. If not, post whatever errors you receive back in this thread. Also, if you have the Samsung drivers installed, uninstall them before messing with Heimdall. Sometimes they don't get along and cause a conflict.

i tried the Heimdall one click already. it wont recognize my device. i uninstalled the Samsung Usb drivers that windows had put but still no use.
at the driver install file i.e zadig file in list all devices it wont show samsung drivers.
the errors were:
ini file 'zadig.ini' not found - default parameters will be used
0 devices found.
libwdi:info [detect_version] Windows 7
9 devices found.
libwdi:error [wdi_create_list] could not get hardware ID
