Trading my HOXL for Nexus - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

To make this simple, I've always wanted a nexus phone. I came from having an iPhone, where everything was uniform, same hardware, and consistent updates were expected. The only time you didn't get an update the day it came out was if your phone was at it's end of life update cycle. But this is the reason I've always wanted a nexus phone. There's something about having a pure google experience that can't be mucked around by manufacturers.
However I am at a dilemma. When the Galaxy Nexus was first announced I was immediately sold. I wanted that phone. Then the sad news came that AT&T was not getting a subsidized version. I could not afford to drop $500 (At the time, yes I know it has droppped) on a phone, especially one without LTE.
But now I have my HOXL and I do love it, I just wish this amazing hardware could actually be put to good use. Probably my number one issue is the fact that there is no google wallet, which I have been dying for. What's the point of AT&T not allowing it when the reason for it (ISIS) has not even been released? And the other huge problem I have is Android Updates, who knows how quickly this phone will get updated. Most phones don't even have ICS yet, and before someone claims to just use a ROM like AOKP or CM9, I would, gladly, but because the kernel is not released, those ROMS don't work with 100% functionality like I need.
This all being said,
tl;dr
I want a Nexus phone. Probably wont trade for Galaxy Nexus because the hardware is already outdated, but maybe one of the 5 nexus' phones in November. Do you guys think someone will trade after the phone is 6 months old?

Android phones are hard to predict.
6 Months is half a product cycle of an iPhone.
The HTC One X(L) is a fantastic device. We don't even have Kernel Source yet and look at the development we've seen so far. Sit tight.
I think ISIS will be a huge fail and Google Wallet will be allowed eventually.

Probably not only because those phones will be unsubsidized, meaning that they will be dropping the money on those phones, going out of their way to buy one off-contract, rather than simply paying less for a subsidized one. I feel like whoever is going to buy those phones will actually really want them. If they wanted the One X, they would have dropped the money on that (and probably for a cheaper price)
And I agree with you that you never know when you will get an official update for Androids, however I honestly couldn't care less if our phone never gets an official update again, so long as we have the source code.... Once we have that we will ALWAYS be on the cutting edge of the Android platform...(and yes...it will be stable as well...like the previous poster said...our phone is only a month an a half old and we do not have the source yet...once we get that you will see much much much improvement.)
It does concern me that the fact that the SGSIII is now out and uniform amongst all US carriers AND they have the source....I just hope that some good devs still decide to get the One X
And HTC really ought to open their eyes to the fact that they are going to have to release the source eventually, and they are only shooting themselves in the foot by not releasing the source now, now that SGSIII is out WITH source...

People have mentioned all kinds of crazy trades, so anything is possible, I guess. But as mentioned in above responses, I wouldn't bet on a straight out one-for-one trade. Trading what is probably going to be a flagship phone, for a phone that is 5-6 months old is probably not going to be considered a fair trade by most people. You may have to sweeten the deal by throwing in something extra, or extra cash to make it a fair trade. Or sell the One X for whatever you can get for it, then buy the Nexus of your choice.

Yeah it bugs me too that Samsung has a better rep with developers than HTC does. Of course with past phones they had to. Imagine the Captivate with locked bootloader and no source (shudder)

I miss my Galaxy Nexus. I didn't think it'd take so long for us to get the kernel source code and that's holding back development. No CM9 = no care.
This is an awesome phone stock and with the mods and customizations it's a lot better, but I can't even get full contact pictures without a ton of pixelization and that's annoying. Can't undervolt or use any of the fantastic kernels that devs release, because they can't work on this damn phone. HTC are being assholes to their loyal devotees so it's pretty disappointing.
Awesome phone, but no where near the level of homebrew/hobby development because of HTC. I want to love this phone but when I see what the HTC One X guys have with their Tegra 3 chip I get so jelly

Funny, I left my GN to get the HOX because of the terrible radio. Although the software was great, I got really slow data speeds on the GN no matter what radio I flashed. My HOX gets fantastic speeds now.
Whether the radio is good or not is never one of the specs reviewers talk about but without a good radio, the phone is not much use. Do a few searches on Samsung radios and you will see that they have a poor reputation.
And as far as development is concerned, ask SG2 owners how long it took to get CM to work because of the weird blue tooth drivers Samsung used....

I pre-ordered a Nexus 7 tablet to satisfy my craving for a pure android device.

Ordered my Nexus 7 as well. Probably going to sell my Prime, but we'll see.
As soon as source drops for this phone, it's going to be huge.

Try using HD contact photos (app). Seems to work pretty well as long as you don't use the HD resolution feature in the advanced settings.
BTW that's a Google problem, not HTC problem.

I can only dream of this happening. Stock nexus with inferior hardware is smoother than our one x. Sense uses way too much RAM.

Samsung is a bigger company. They have leverage against carriers. HTC is desperate.
Another reason is, samsung is the biggest electronics manufacturing company in the world. This is why the nexus is able to sell at $350. There is no other company that can provide such cost efficiency. Only samsung has the infrastructure.

I don't think we're gonna see anymore developers then what we currently have. They're gonna flock to the sgs3 and the nexus phones. Also, with another better One X supposedly rumored, why would they get this phone? We haven't reached the most roms well get but we've most likely seen which developers will work on them. This phone was doomed one the sgs3 and jelly bean came out. Source or no source.

2 days left to return

Just found out that the galaxy s3 for the US will have the same CPU as
The one x. It will also come with 2gb of ram, which is a real plus. What would you guys do in this situation. I'm still kind of worried about that pentile screen, have to see it in person but I dont have much time left.
The 3 main criteria for me are screen quality, camera quality and feel of the device. I really dislike the screens on Samsung devices. All things considered, I'd be miserable looking at that display as a trade for questionable improvements in speed. A larger SD card, while a great option, isn't something I really need.
Build quality is also a big deal. I like the feel of the one x more than any other Android device I've handled. The S2 variants left me feeling like I had a bargain phone in hand.
I've heard great things about the camera on the S3, but while I'm still having some trouble in generating the type of shots I'd like with the HOX it's an excellent outdoor shooter.
THE END

I'd hate to say it, but I'm kind of in the same boat. I was dead set on this phone once Samsung made their announcement (was a toss up between the GNex, the GSIII or the HOX). I figured the awesome dev folks around here would get the phone unlocked so we could eventually run some stock form of ICS (which was a successful bet!). But the issues the phone has (WiFi BS, the lagging in the games, the frustrations with multitasking-esque stuff) are annoying. I was really hoping AT&T would be pushing out their fix soon to address at least the WiFi, but I was hoping for too much I guess. After this phone, I don't think I'll every be buying another subsidized phone again. I'd rather just roll with the Nexus line so I can freely do what I want with the phone.

A lot of the issues with the one x have been fixed with the latest ruu, and some nice tweaks have been made with the few rims we have now. Just wait until we get the kernel source and watch our battery and performance skyrocket. Imo, stick with one x and wait for the goodies to come.

I have a question...are these goodies you are talking about only going to come to those who are rooted? Is there expected to be an official release that fixes some of the issues I am having? My Wifi radio stinks and the cell radio is less than optimum. However, because I love the screen so much, I'm sticking with my HOX for right now.
I got mine at Wal-Mart for $158, and they told me I had 15 days. I wonder if that is just the window to return it and void the contract extension, or if I'm out of my window entirely? Although there is a lot I love about my HOX, That 2GB of RAM really has me squirming, together with the lockdownedness of the HTC.

The leaked 1.85 RUU has an updated radio, which may help your WiFi and cell reception issues. Its impossible to say for sure, but I'd be willing to bet its only a matter of time before this version (or something even newer) is made available as an official OTA.
After owning the Atrix, which had double the RAM and CPU of the original Galaxy S... I'd rather have a better screen.. Sure the One X has software issues like multitask, but we have root and the unlocked bootloader.. CM9 and other great roms will follow (I hope)... I think I'll be sticking w/ the One X. But if u really need the SD card slot then I guess your choice is already made.
Read the papers from Walmart at&t requires a 30 day window Verizon, and others are 15 from Walmart.

I'm keeping mine but I'm known to play craigs list like a day trader. I'm willing to bet there will be people who want to trade their SGS III for the HOX. I'll consider doing this if development on the HOX stagnates. I don't think it will though after all we don't have Source Code yet.
This phone os perfect for me. It fits my hand, it's light but not too light and the battery life is amazing.
Just returned it....now it's just a waiting game. Kinda miss the phone already especially going back to the iphone 4's tiny little screen .The specs on the new iphone should be coming out soon too.
I'm returning mines, the GS3 was just announced. Pre orders start June 6. The one x is a great phone but I prefer the GS3. Bigger screen, removable battery plus a sd card slot.

The Pentile display killed the SGS3 for me. Don't say "you can't see it" because once you see it, you can't unsee it. It's especially noticeable if you're like me and have been using iPhone 4 and now One X for 2+ years.

agreed on the display. with some of the wifi problems i've been having the last couple of weeks, frankly, i want to return it, but i just can't stand the idea of getting an SGS3 with that damn pentile screen and the overall pukey, pseudo-nature 'inspired' (read: playing the marketable environmental/sustainable/green card) theme. i've go ttill tomorrow to convince myself that the risk of my wifi never working properly isn't enough to make me return this thing...
Return the phone, then drive to different ATT store and get a new one for 30 more days

When and to what will you upgrade from the venerable Captivate?

So I've been sitting on an upgrade since before the sgs3 came out. Have been telling myself to wait until it's under $100...Now the HOX is $99 via at&t or even $79 via Costco with free activation and bunch of accessories...color me tempted. Sure the One X has some flaws, but most agree it's solid especially at $80. Then again, what will these new Android phones go for after iPhone 5 is released? Probably a good deal cheaper, and I like value on the cheap
That being said, I can't complain about my Cappy running CM9; it's running as good now as it ever has and the ICS port is close enough to flawless for me.
Understandably, the question I ask is opinion...but curious what folks are eyeing up for their next phone. Considering I got my Cappy refurbished for $0 plus contract, I have half a mind to wait for the sgs3 to be similarly offered before I bite.
Thoughts? What at&t phone are you holding out for?

i was so tempted to buy the sgs3 outright but im holding off
When i bought my captivate on Christmas of 2010, Wal-Mart/AT&T never took off the upgrade i used to purchase it.
So i waited until i was sufficiently bored with the captivate and something else caught my eye.
I bought the note about a month after it was released, do not regret it at all.
The hox is poop, a friend of mine abs fellow teammate sells phones, every one x he has sold in his store has been returned with an issue.
The s3 has been having problems with people losing their imei numbers after flashing a custom Rom, with no way to restore them, the old methods don't seem to work.

I have those three phones on my radar for the next upgrade. The One X was the lowest, and if you're getting information saying it's not worth the box it comes in, that's good to know.
I'm torn between the size of the Note and the additional horsepower of the S3. It looks like they've managed to get around the IMEI thing for the AT&T S3 (at least that's what my 5 minutes reading in that forum indicates), so I'm less worried about that.
I guess it will come down to the price difference at the time of upgrade.
So... there you go. Do with that what you must.
I got an Atrix 2 when it was $1 from Best Buy on black Friday. That's my main phone and daily driver, and my Cappy is my funsies phone. The Atrix 2 still has a locked boot loader (let's see if I ever buy another Motorola unless it's a Nexus) so I still use my Captivate a lot for tinkering.
My next phone? Probably an off-contract Nexus.

Something that is built for ICS and up. Something that is more bleeding-edge tech then the cappy was for it's time. So probably something not Samsung, since they are the leading brand and have nothing to prove.
-xda app, too lazy for something interesting to say-
Keeping mine.... why switch?!
Are you still using your computer from 95?
Technology has a shelf life, no matter how much you love it, it will be more than obsolete within a relatively short amount of time.
No matter how old my phone gets it will still be comparable to the newest devices in its principle purpose, to be used as a phone... Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe my dumb phone from 2005 has the comparable cellular abilities.
The reason I like this one more than my 2005, is the wifi teathering, mp3, camera, and GPS. Tablets and PC's I frequently update because I expect them to do a lot more than play music and call people. I suppose if you were in so impatient to as not wait 3 seconds for a website to load it would be worth the $500 price tag of a new phone. But I would rather be 2 years behind and use the extra $$ for something fun, like a new mountain bike or rifle.
When someone invents a modular phone system that can be upgraded like a PC, then I will buy it that day.

I'm going with either the SGSIII or Note 2. The Captivate has 512 MB ram but the SGSIII (and probably the Note 2) has 2GB! That's why android 4.1 is 'so buttery smooth!' I thought about the HTC One X but the battery is not removable, so forget it. Time to move up to buttery smooth!
Is butter related only to the ram or software also?

It's a combination of available ram, software efficiency, and processor speed. You can have the fastest processor and 1 or of 2 GB of available ram, but if the software is dis-organized, or it has illogical code, or it conflicts with the operating system, you won't have smooth operation. The Captivate on ICS is very close to its limits and JB may be the limit, depending on how the devs make their custom roms. I'm staying with CM9 RC2 until, and if, the stable version is released. Then I'll turn my Captivate into a MP3 player and wifi only browser and enjoy my stock SGSIII or Note 2.
Even on the S3 I'm not sure I'll stick with stock...maybe at least root to freeze stupid at$t bloat.
Thanks for the good input on this thread. I'm severely tempted by the $80 HOX at Costco, but keep reminding myself that S3 should get cheaper by time iPhone 5 is released in the wild. The waiting is the hardest part.

its far to expensive now though. i have a feeling quad core phones are on their way to market.
I upgraded my phone about a week ago. I went from my beloved Captivate to the Galaxy S 3, and I couldnt be happier. Dont get me wrong, I loved my cappy. I flashed just about every rom that was/is available for it. But my new SGS3 is a marvel of a phone. The speed of this phone is insane. For example, when installing new apps on GS3, it only takes literally a second to install an app with a size of say 20MB. My Captivate was fast, but not that fast, but I guess thats to be expected. If you love the Galaxy S series like I do... Then its a no-brainer what to upgrade to.

I love my captivate. I've sent it to hell and back flashing constantly, soft bricking repeatedly, and dropping it occasionally, but it has remained solid, with only minor injuries. Not to mention I have a smooth, stable (for me at least) Jelly Bean ROM, and an amazing development community!
All that said, I'll run to the next Nexus device faster than a cheetah on hot asphalt.
I'm also thinking Nexus, those things get more development attention than any other device.

I was really close to getting an S3, but now that I have a REALLY fast and stable rom on my phone (helly bean), I don't feel the need to upgrade so quickly.
I'll probably wait a couple months and see what's new!

This sucks for us.

How will development for our HOX be then? This phone looks to be a beast.

Most likely different processors.
Supposed to be tegra 3 based.
Oh, hey look, another HTC i-device. What are they gonna lock down on this one, date and time changes? Widget locations on the home screen? Contact pictures?
I love my HOX, but HTC's pussification by bowing to AT&T to lock down the device is absurd, and goes against everything their CEO promised the modding/dev community. This very well may be the last time I buy from HTC.
OP how does this suck for us exactly? This is how it goes. Either way, it looks like replacement for intl hox, not ours.
If this had a quad core s4 I'd be mad. However it doesn't.. so I'm not.

Are people seriously expecting upcoming phones to remain the same or.. be slower? Of course they will be faster and better than what we already have. It will have been at least 1/2 a year by the time this C2 comes out. Deal with it!

To be honest according to those specs I'd still prefer this version simply because of the battery sipping s4. I think tegra3 will shine in tablets.

That's what I was thinking international... But then I remembered the T-mobile rumor.
http://m.techcrunch.com/2012/07/25/htc-one-x-rumored-to-launch-on-t-mobile-come-september/
Still were divided into Tegra and Snapdragon camps anyway. Personally I prefer the battery life on the dual core platform especially considering how close in performance it can be. At this point I'm ready for any good news for HTC as they've been taking a beating in market share from Samsung lately.
It only sucks for people who NEED to be on the bleeding edge of technology. That was me a few years back until i realized i didn't have the resources to fund my expensive habit. So i tend to stay happy with the device i have now
But it does seem like HTC isn't staying so true to their word that they were gonna slow down the amount of devices. But this year is better than last year that's for sure.
I would totally buy that, except this is my last HTC device.

I'm in the same boat. I would love to unleash my inner tech whore and plunk down money like there's no tomorrow on phones but honestly there's not a damn thing wrong with my one X. It's got great build quality, a great camera, awesome battery life and AOKP. Pretty much all I can ask for in a phone. I figure it will last me at least a year and a half which is more than I can say for pretty much every other phone I've ever owned. Only phone to last me over a year was my old nokia e71 (which I keep as a backup) and that was before I was exposed to the wonderful world of Android on my nexus one.
Same thing happens every time a new device comes out.
I don't get it. You think they should hold off bringing out a new phone until you've had enough of yours?
Is called progression...
I think ( tho could be wrong ) the op meant it sucks in terms of support.
I do understand....I bought 2 Evo 3d's paid over a grand for them 6 months later the phone is dropped for the 4G and I did well to sell one for 175 bucks, where as had I bought iphones I would have not lost so much.
So here we have the hox currently one hot phone, you bring out the "rumored" phone and now the hox turns in to ugly friend that nobody wants to date. So value drops, development drops, and support drops.
So yeah I see how it sucks.
Funny how you bring up the iPhone thing. I always think the same.. I switched to ATT the day the HOX came out. And now while I love the phone I don't want to be stuck with a phone that won't have development. With what little devs we have we are doing great, but what incentive do they have to stay when better phones are popping up? And now were stuck with this phone hardly anybody wants to buy after f____ing ATT dropped the price to a measly 100 dollars. That was a damn quick price drop.

The linked article does not mention LTE. And I think Tegra chipsets with LTE are not coming until late this year, or even 2013? Without LTE, AT&T is not going to pick up this phone.
Looks to be an upgrade for international carriers, or a flagship for T-Mobile. Either way, that wouldn't affect our development much, if at all.

Anyone else buy the G2X because it was so close to Vanilla Android?

One of the reasons I went with this phone roughly 22 months ago was that it was expected to get updates to Android very quickly, since it didn't have Sense or some other heavy overlay.
Funny, huh? Since it ended up one of the WORST phones I could have picked for any real updates. Ahh, the irony.
Anyone else do the same thing? I honestly can't wait to chuck this thing, and now that it's down to $50 per line to get out of my contract 2 months early, I'm very tempted to do so and pick up a Droid DNA on Verizon or some other powerhouse.
It's not worth getting any android phone that isn't Nexus or has a huge HUGE base (galaxy s3). I wouldn't trust the DROID DNA, honestly. Verizon can really suck with updates, too.
Don't make the same mistake again.

You should wait for May at least to see what Google rolls out, whether it is the moto X phone or something else. Also Id be surprised why you would do verizon and agree to pay prob at least $30 more per month when you can stick with Tmo or go simple talk with an unlocked GSM phone.
I got his phone for two reasons.
1. Because it was vanilla.
2. As soon as I heard nvidia was making tegra I checked everyday for news on the it's release.
Yes I waited a long ass time and nvidia didnt put out a tegra till they came out with tegra 2.
But I'm still happy with this phone.
Go to any phone thread, they all say the same thing.
"worst phone ever"
"worst company ever"
People are never happy.
This phone competes with phones coming out today with a proper stable ROM and I think that is great.
No it doesn't compete with phones coming out today. Don't try to ignore the truth.

Overclocked to 1.55 ghz with the supercharger on aggressive, it performs well. I can do anything any new phone can do! (except take good pictures, camera became ****)
I also remember watching a promo video by LG on Tmo website claiming "pure vanilla Android experience." That along with the G2x name - hinting at G1 roots- and other factors (dual core, Tegra, etc.) falsely presumed timely updates or at least easy ROM updating. I came from the pure vanilla original Droid. I wanted the same experience. Boy did I make the same huge ironic mistake. Trouble is, this is the phone I switched my wife off her iPhone for. Disappointing at best.
True, there are some great devs who have made this phone passable. Unfortunately, TEGRA/nvidia had their hands cuffed and LG won't supply them with a key. Tmo is an enabler in the whole debacle.
Besides, even though I always will root my phone, one shouldn't have to for reliable functionality.
I think the only Android phone I will ever buy is a Nexus. Wait,I can't even buy an effing Nexus! LG should allow special Nexus purchasing concessions for all g2x owners. It might help me get rid of this nasty taste in my mouth
Now this phone is to old and too forgotten to have any hope. If you love this phone, great. But, my etudes phone is still completely stock. If you haven't driven a completely stock g2x lately. Try it. It is a pathetic sluggish joke that might be funny if it didn't freeze up during the performance all day long.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
You forgot to note that its horrible battery life as well with those mods.

Yes, the almost vanilla Android was a major reason I got a G2x. Like others, I assumed that meant quick updates. And while I agree that it has very solid hardware that should perform better today than it would with old software, it's still nothing like the Note 2 I got to replace it.
As other have mentioned, a big failure with the phone, other than updates, is the camera. I have small kids, and the 2 second lag makes the camera next to useless. Even if the kids hold still long enough, the camera quality isn't very good.
Overall, I was happy with the phone for most of the 18 months I had it. If it had a better camera and got reasonable updates, I probably would have waited until my contract was up (although t-mo was great about upgrading me early, to my surprise).

My words exactly. It was my first android and I did enjoy it, very briefly. Until the first freeze and random reboot. Of course that happened while I still could have returned the damn korean crap but I figured tmo and lg said they'll fix it right away, and they couldn't possibly abandon their customers right?!
Anyway. Finally dumped that piece of shmit and got a gs3. Can't be happier with this device, xda and t-mobile truly unlim h+

Ditto here. This was my first foray into the smart phone world (had a feature phone previously) and the big reason I got it was because of the "pure vanilla Android experience" they were touting about it. I expected frequent updates, and a phone I'd be using for years.
Now, I'm torn. I actually still love my phone, but the lack of any *stock* update is disappointing. There are lots of roms/mods out there, but none of them are perfect, and I'm not hard core enough to try out different ones.
Actually, if I could just have a GPS that worked 95% of the time I'd be pretty happy. I've tried so many different tweaks and still can't get it to work fast and consistently.
And as much as I'd love to upgrade and get a Nexus 4 (which I'm close to being eligible for) the lack of a removable battery and an SD slot are VERY big downers.

If it couldn't keep up then you wouldn't still be seeing kernels and ROMs being made and updated for this phone.
LG may have never gave the phone the support it deserved but this site sure has and I thank them for that.
Actually support of g2x is dying. Many great devs have moved on to better and newer phones.
LG never again for me! That's why I was so disappointed when goggles announced nexus 4 by lg...
Verizon SUCKS with updates, and they tried their damndest to keep certain apps widgets and irons of my new Note 2. Thankfully, that's why XDA exists. The bootloader took awhile to get unlocked, but we finally have some kernel/rom options and development from other carriers is making its way to our forums. God stuff.

Its more nvidias fault then lg's. Nvidia is closed source so ofc there not gonna try and help LG out by giving them the drivers they needed for hw acceleration. If anything Google choosing LG for the nexus 4 boosted LG as a company as they actually release updates every other day practically, it is a nexus phone.. Just look at how well the LG nexus 4 has sold for proof. Nvidia and there closed source tegra need to stay off android IMO as they only hurt and delay android devices getting updated.

The next step. Where do we go?

So.. I've been looking around. It's time for me to jump off credo mobile and go back to sprint. I fine to this forum because I honestly believe you all have the best idea of support in understanding hardware and software.
In thus, what is your next step from the shift? Sounds line the Motorola photon became a fail.. HTC evo 4g lte, maybe somewhat old now.. And the HTC one along with s4 is just around the bend.. However.. No qwerty keyboard.
So... Where do you all stand? I've had sine thoughts recently on thinking the scoffed... Iphone5 recently since jail breaking and video quality is good (audio in particular).
So yeah.. Thoughts?
PS: I still mid my shift.. However the s2 recently struck awesome with the black bean ROM
Cheers!

If I didn't have to switch and I owned a 4g lte, I would do the same as you Jesus. However I'm switching providers back top sprint and taking 75 for my galaxy s2.
2gb memory cache! Yes its true.. Holy macro! Its almost like running a laptop in you're hand.. Pretty darn close.
Other good reviews on CNET that didn't seem very embellished. Though they do seem more sided with htc..lol.. Especially with well the seeking imagery.. For a tech head anyhow. Haha
The gs4 has way too big of a screen for me.. S2 was borderline enough.. Lol 4.7 vs 5 inch from HTC one and galaxy s4. Plus HTC makes way better builds

at this point id just hold off and see whats announced at google i\o in may, might be wiser to just wait and get a new nexus phone with key lime pie*, whats a couple more months
(*rumored)
Im wondering if Google now owns Motorola, what that might mean for the Photon Q and the droids. Maybe they'll let us unlock the bootloaders and have a party.

Actually the KB in 4.2.2 is really good...the only issue I see with it (imo anyway) is that you can't longpress on the keys to put in numbers or symbols

The color and texture of it is also really nice

I'd go with the Nexus...reading through the posts over in the M7 forums, there seem to be a lot of physical issues with the device...may just be the first couple batches that were manufactured, but at least with a nexus device, root is as easy as using fastboot
But the One they need to get S-OFF because htcdev.com is the only option right now

Plus you have to see it like this, with HTC your going to lose a lot of features running AOSP. Its shipped with Sense for a reason :banghead:
To some that's not a big deal, but to most it will be, because we all know it will release with an outdated Android version. Not only that, its outdated due to bugs.
With a Nexus device the only way to go is up, since the only proprietary thing is MPdecision and that's released in our ota updates. Which comes just a day or so after the ota rollout. So we gain a lot, BUT don't have the option for skinned ROMs.
I look at it like this, if your going to run Sense only (and HTC has dealt with security leaks) then the One would be a great device. But if your not running Sense, get a device AOSP was built for so you don't have all the tiny bugs that will be present.
I remember back when ALL I would run on my speedy was Sense, because AOSP was buggy with MMS/camera/video etc. So I hated it, even on my DS I hated CM because it was buggy.......but my Nexus really opened my eyes.
End of rant lol

Well if you're looking at AOSP you gotta look at the dev support too, even if it wasn't built for AOSP and there is a lot of devs working on it the bugs will get hammered out... that was the problem with devices like the Shift. Now the s3 and Note 2 have a ton of devs but you also gotta deal with a ton of Noobs. I personally miss the small community here but having more devs is definitely a plus... but dang even with the s2 I feel like I'm always behind with what is going on. The bigger communities ate a little intimidating after being here for two years. And I know the Nexus 4 community is HUGE.
