So today my phone fell into some garbage. I dont think there was any water, but after doing some googling, it seems that is one of the causes. After i pulled the battery out, the little circle is pure white but i do see a very little spot of red. Can anyone give me any tips? If its ruined, can i easily replace it? I just got this from ausurion a few months back. I dont really want to have to shed out another 200 for another phone. I put it in rice for the time being just in case.
I can turn it on, and it vibrates normally, and it vibrates when things happen. The bottom icon lights also turn on. So, just imagine your phone working, you just cant see anything.
EDIT: Also, i cant get into fastboot, recovery, etc because it is only blank. Should i be looking into a new screen?
If there's water damage, it might be a lost cause, but if it's not, replacing the screen would be a much cheaper option than shelling out $200.
It isn't anything to do with water my phone did the same thing. You damaged the wires going to the screen. Touch still works right. Do you have insurence?

There are many different causes of problems. You can't be positive that it isn't a certain cause.

I'm not sure if it's lag or what, but my phone screen won't come on. I think it's a ribbon that was disconnected or something though. For about a few hours if I were to press power to see the lock screen, all I saw where a bunch of rainbow static. Then I powered my phone on and off because nothing would work and now it's jut black! Does anyone know what's wrong? I can't boot into clockwork so I don't think it's a rom problem. Does anyone know the problem or have any idea to fix? Anyone I should ask specifically?
maybe water? even having my phone in the bathroom while i take a shower cause me that
It's not water, I never bring my phone close to place with water :/
can you boot into the screen where there are 3 droids with the skateboards? (i not sure whats the name)
I think I can boot and my phone still works, because it still rings when someone calls and it still vibrates when someone text it, but I just can't pick up or reply (because the screen won't come on). I should be able to boot into that thing, but I can't anything :/
well bro sorry i cant help you :/ maybe it could be the screen, the ribons or somethings loose. did it fell?

Seems like either broken ribbon that connects the screen to the "motherboard', or dead screen itself. That's exactly how 1 of my phones died (it was too complicated to disassemble and fix it myself)
But once I had similar problem with my TP2, the screen first become unresponsive to any touch, and then it went just black after restart (and every next restart). However all keys did work.
Hard reset somewhat helped, the screen actually came back, but it was still stuck on setting up Windows Mobile (if you know WinMo: the part where you calibrate touchscreen), apparently "touch" part of the screen didn't work.
I thought it is ribbon or screen assembly, but since all the keys worked I flashed another ROM and what do you know: all problems went away. It worked fine for as long as I had it. I never figured out what caused it/was the problem.

Yea I think that's the problem here. I think I'm just going to borrow a friends mt4gs to use and navigate recovery and do a back up and just buy a new one and restore. Thanks for all the help guys
My HTC Sensation wont turn on... properly.
When booting, i get a black screen. Around the edge of the screen i can see the backlight is on both when just on the battery as well as while plugged in, but i get nothing displayed, just ablack screen. It vibrates like normal when i power on, but nothing, black screen.
I do not belive this is software related however, because for all intents and purposes, the phone is booting just fine. However, nothing gets displayed to the screen.
For instance, when i call it from a different phone, it rings... and because i know where the buttons "should be" i swipe to answer the phone as i would normally, and it answers the phone, and i can hear and use the phone just fine. But again, NOTHING is displayed on the screen, i can only answer the phone, because my fingers know where to touch and slide to answer the phone.
Also, when i boot with VOLDOWN, i get nothing. So it doesnt appear to be a software issue, at least from what i can gather.
Im at a complete loss here, and really have no clue. I am very laman when it comes to hardware. I have opened it up (removed the tiny "void" sticker from a screw head, removed 6 screws, removed the lastic backplate (not the battery cover, the plastic plate that holds the battery), and just generally took a look at it. I really dont know what im doing here, so i havnt really done much further than this. Everything "LOOKS" okay, nothing seems out of place, broken, wires are all attached, it looks fine from what i can tell.
Theres no moisture, theres no residue, there what i couldnt consider excessive dirt or dust or debri (at least anything i wouldnt ocnsider normal after hivng the phone a year or whatever).... so im really at a loss here, and not sure what it could be.
Hoping maybe someone else ran into this problem and has had it resolved... but "search" and "google" hasnt turned anything up..Any help would be appreciate... Thank you in advance.
I just noticed, when i take the battery, an di simply make contact with the contacts, the backlight (the dim light around the edge of the screen, i assuming its the backlight) lights up. Pull the battery, nothing, toch the battery to the contacts, backlight turns on.... without ever pressing the phones power button or nothing. I do not remember this being the case before, and i would assume this would not be normal operation. With the phone not turned on at all (coming from a fresh battery pull), i just touch the battery to the contacts, or put the battery in, the phones backlight i wouldnt think, should come on and stay on like it is, no?
I had similar issue after my phone fell down face on. Had to replace the display unit to get resolved.
A friend of mine had a Galaxy S3 Amber with a broken (and blank) screen and wanted her data from it's internal memory that is locked and not in debugged mode. I did a lot of research and found the best, most efficient way was to do a motherboard swap with another gs3. I had a Galaxy S3 Blue. I watched a couple of videos and it seemed rather easy. I gathered the proper tools and was EXTREMELY careful not to break or rip anything (and to my knowledge i did not). When i put her motherboard from the amber one into the blue one and the screen would not come on. My first thoughts were it must be her motherboard that went bad. Well when i went to put my blue gs3 back together (again being very careful this entire time) I'm now having the same issue as she was. Black screen, no back light. The bottom lights DO come on and i feel it vibrate when i get a message. There was also no power on chime...
I know its hard to tell with out looking but any ideas on what could be wrong or what i might have screwed up? i checked all the connections and everything looks perfect. Nothing is bent or connected wrong and I didn't force or break anything.
update: so i found that the touch part of it still works fine. i can hear the ripple unlock as well as all the other sounds and such when i touch around and i can here it opening apps. the only issue lies in the screen itself being blank with no back light what so ever,
First of all remove the battery and attempt to power on, then leave without battery for 1 min, I know this sounds silly but it worked on an old iPhone 3G so anythings worth a shot.
If that doesn't work go back into the S3 and make sure all the data clips are firmly in place and locked down but not twisted in anyway. Also make sure their is no moisture or dust on the ribbons. You may not realise it but even the smallest imperfection with this can cause massive issues down the line.
If all else fails her phone may have broke your screen, I don't know how but it is a possibility
Hope I could help and good luck

so i took it apart again today to double check and clean everything and under inspection i noticed a teeny tiny slit on the edge of the lower, bigger ribbon. i know the smallest bit could be horrid. Any fix and would that cause just the screen to not show? i don't know if that is the led connection but i think it may be.

If theirs a slit I'm affraid that could be it for the screen, like I said even the smallest imperfection can cause massive issues. The slit is probably in the one of the data sections of the ribbon cable which is why data for the screen isn't being carried.
For the fix I don't think their is one unless you can fit a new ribbon on to yout S3's screen
Sorry about the screen
So I took it all apart again. Cleaned ever little thing I could and now it works again. ?

No problem, thats what XDA is here for:laugh:
Hey guys, i'll try to explain the situation as best i can below, hopefully someone can work out what is wrong.
My phone is about 16 months old. About 2 months ago i dropped it twice within the space of a couple weeks. There were a few cracks along the screen, however it wasn't very noticeable and i wasn't going to bother having it fixed. The problem started a couple of weeks ago when i went to grab it out of my pocket, however i found out the screen was black and it wouldn't turn on. I don't really know how to describe it but it was acting very strange...
- The screen would have white/gray bars all over it then turn off, then it would do the same with very thin vertical lines that were white/gray/other colours...
- When i get the screen on, it generally turns off again within 30 seconds, however it can stay on for a few minutes.
- If the screen is on and i press the lock button, it almost certainly won't come back on.
- Restarting the phone or holding the power and volume button nearly always gets the screen to come back on. It often then restarts but turns off again shortly after.
- The phone is otherwise still working when the screen goes off; the notification light stays on and i hear messages etc coming through
- The backlight often stays lit, revealing a gray screen opposed from total black. Sometimes it does not stay lit however.
- When the screen came on it was often unresponsive to touch
I had the screen replaced yesterday by a phone repair shop and the phone is still not right. I have factory reset the phone and also wiped the partition cache. Other than that it is still not working. IT seems to be working better... The screen always seems responsive to touch when it is on, and it doesn't seem to be turning off as often. It generally starts up and works fine when i start up by holding the power button and down volume button together... However even still it sometimes just flashes up with a few thick white/gray and black lines on the screen..
Does anyone know what can be causing this and how i can resolve it? If you need any more information please let me know and i will try provide it. I could try get some pictures of what the screen is doing when i finish work. Thanks guys, i appreciate any input.
EDIT: I managed to get a pic of what i mean by the thin vertical lines all over the screen. This just appeared when i tried to restart the phone after it the screen had once again stopped working. The imgur link is gIFMGD6
Anyone have any ideas?
Hey, did you ever figure this problem out? My phone just started doing the same thing. Can't find much info about it.

Yeah, i had the screen fixed hoping it would fix it, however that didn't work. Turns out it was the motherboard, don't know what was wrong with it in particular other than it was simply going faulty. Had someone replace the motherboard on it for $50 and have had zero problems since! Hope that helps you.
Thanks for the response. I tried replacing the screen too with no luck. Unfortunately the same place that replaced the screen said it would cost $400 to replace the motherboard!!! The phone cost less than that so it looks like I'm gonna buy a new one.

So, it's me again.. As the title says, water somehow got in the phone. I can see some humidity on both cameras. I noticed this problem when I tried to make a call and the device couldn't detect the sim card. So, I opened the back only to find water in the SIM slot. The SIM is working fine now as i managed to dry it out but now I have two more problems.. A) For whatever reason the devices overheats by itself way too aggressively and B) the touch screen is really messed up..
Safe mode seems to ease the touchscreen issue a bit but the phone is still useless..
And yes, i have used rice to dry it..
It's fully stock btw except the unlocked bootloader..
If anyone knows what to do I will be really REALLY glad as I dont have a backup device right now..
Thanks in advance.

Is the water visible under the LCD? If not then you might be able to save it. If water got into the LCD backlight, like my previous phone, the damage would be irreversible.
Your best bet would be to take it to a technician and disassemble the phone. Maybe try to get warranty claim if still applicable. Overheating means the motherboard is shorted and the battery needs to be disconnected as soon as possible. Also, disassembly is recommended to clean up any water residue to prevent further corrosion.
Now, may I ask, how did the water got in there? Did the gasket fail or you've made some mistake like not putting on the back cover securely?
The problem was the plastic covering the sim and sd slots. As soon as pulled out the cover that plastic fell down on the floor like it was never glued whereas the other plastic for the second sim was just fine. I will get a technician to fix it in the next few days but until then its staying in rice 24/7. BTW the touch screen does have some problems and it keeps on pressing stuff by it self, although i can fix it for a few seconds by placing my hand all over the screen when active and then closing the screen. When I open it back up the problems are gone for about 10 seconds. Also the is a wierd mark on the bottom of the screen that seems like water but it doesnt affect visibility that much.
Quick update: So, water seems to be in there after all those days as the screen gets worse every day that passes. The wierd thing is that I downgraded to lollipop because I thought that the 5.0 display drivers might be better for such a screen and.. Well the screen doesnt respond at all to touches.. Tech support will see the phone today or tomorrow but I dont think its worth to repair. :/
Best way to "dry" the pone is to turn it off, remove the battery if possible, and leave the phone in a bowl with RICE (yes rice) in it, fully covering.
Rice will suck up all the humidity close.
