[Q] jt1134's ICS rom multitasking to another rom? - Verizon Droid Charge

I was wondering if the multitasking from jt's ICS rom can be moved to tweaked 2.1 or as a zip that can be flashed in cwm. I'm sorry if this is impossible, as i am not as educated as most people on this forum. I was just curious because i like to have that ICS multitasking. Thank you

That multitasking is a new feature of ics. It requires android 4.0+ just to work.
Sent from my handheld computer using electromagnetic radiation.

Agreed, I've always wished even if an ics rom was impossible a gingerbread rom with a full ics theme including multitasking and face unlock cuz that'd be awesome.

Oh well, i guess i have to wait for a finished ICS rom...

[Q] ICS based on 2.3 vs 4.0

I'm currently running an ICS rom based on 2.3.6. I'm not sure I really understand what this rom is - is it basically a theme that looks like ICS? What are the advantages of basing it on 4.0?
Will the skyrocket get CM9 support? I realize we don't know the future but what I'm asking is - can CM9 be tweaked to support our phone even if it isn't natively supported?

Yes and no,
the 2.3.6 is just THEMED. why not base it off 4.X you say.....its alot more work to port something that is NOT meant for our phone yet. so the Devs will pulling file from here and there to get the 4.x just to even be partially functional....which is what we are going through with CM7 now. i think our phone will Eventually have Cm9 support. ( Maybe )

AT&T official gingerbread for Captivate discussion

I am opening this thread to discuss the new official release from AT&T and Samsung. Details can be found here.
I'm not sure why discussion rooting was a reason to close a thread, but I guess a overzealous mod is better than no mod.
I hate to burst your bubble but there's already an active thread about the official AT&T Gingerbread release.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437947
I am not sure how much needs to be discussed. It is the same rom that was leaked back in 11/16/2011. Developers have done some amazing stuff with the Rom so far. All that is left for them to do really is add BLN and voodoo color to the kernel. I am not sure if having the source will do anything more for the Rom themselves.
FYI - Mod don't like ppl reopening closed threads.
yes I was active on that thread. It was locked by a mod because people started to discuss how to root the new release. zergRush does not work on it.

Do we know yet that it is bit for bit the same?
Does anyone have an Odin or Heimdall compatible version of the ROM?

Those are the two big questions I have too.
That last thread was sure cut short, but i have a question regarding kies mini. Im currently running the leaked UCKK4 Stock, rooted, and bloatfree; will i be able to upgrade with kies mini?

I had the exact type of rom running on my phone. Mini kies told me I was already running the latest rom. So, I did one click back to KB2 then used mini kies.
Ah, my apologies then.
I'll throw a bone out there, Fugu Root. Nuf said. Interesting enough tether manager likes to fc when you have debug enabled along with the usb connected.

I also had Tethering manage FC on me, but only right after I flashed it on the first reboot. I have not seen it FC again. I am very familiar with the Fugu kernel swap and think it great method, but my issue that I don't have a source of the kies released KK4 kernel. Do you know how to gernerate or extract an ODIN flashable kernel from the running image?
I'm running Cyanogenmod kang build 7.2 right now but I gotta ask is it worth going to stock gingerbread? How stable is it? I'll be honest I miss some of the touchwiz apps, but IMO the stock froyo rom sucked. At the very least I'd probably root and remove the AT&T BS, but IMO The froyo rom ran slower and buggier than the stock eclair rom! I really just want everyone's general opinion of it. Its a tough call. I got my phone running pretty stable with Cyanogenmod right now and its out of warrenty anyway so it might not even be worth my time anyway.

Check the KK4 leak thread for the tar.
No one has confirmed that the KK4 leak is exactly the same of the offical KK4. That is my only hesitation. I would like to be sure that I am running the AT&T KK4 release

Well the camera is a heck of a lot better the AOSP. It's worth it, even though it's still RFS, it's snappy and way better the KB1 ever was.
Yeah speaking of rfs I'd definitely be putting a lag fix on. I might look into it, and yes I agree about the camera, in fact honestly the hate against touchwiz is unwarranted. All the touchwiz apps are better, even the launcher is better than vanilla android one(not counting cyanogenmod that uses adw, which is one if the best). Only thing I did notice is without touchwiz the rom is faster, so obviously it adds bulk but the apps are so much better!

I never did get slacker radio and maps working at the same time on kk4. Even with tweaks I mentioned in another thread, slacker started dying after about a day of use. No problems like that with cm7. Thats why I am mostly interested if they actually made any changes from the leak. I doubt it though.
Ginger Bread is here
Im updating currently to official ginger bread
Didn't you notice that Samsung & at&t dropped lots of original Gingerbread features? like the CRT screen-off animation... I can't find it on the new official GB update one.
Is CarrierIQ still present in the official build? Curious. It was in the leak.

Any Help please! :)

Ok so before i start, i just want to say "no i am not asking for which rom is better etc, so dont go on closing threads" xD ok so here i go..
Ive been searching for a good gingerbread rom better than stock..ive tried ics but the encrypted errors are not my thing. So i tried serendipity it work well..but its not based on kk4... heres my question? are roms based on kk4 better than other older ones? I dont know much about the diferences in that or about audience chips, voodoo etc.. I do notice some roms seem to have brighter colors than others..any sugestion as to what is the diferences..thanks in advance
im trying to decide between.. Simplystock kk4, mosaic ix, serendipity, or legend 4..

I have a feeling that this thread won't last very long, but if you want GB and like aosp, go with CM7

The standard suggestion and one I subscribe to is you have to try them out to see what is best for You and Your phone.
I use Legend 4 and am completely happy with it but that is just me. It meets the things I think are important. Which does not mean others are worse or better. But then, I don't worry about if there is one out there that does something wonderful if I don't need or use it.
here's breakdown
KK4 based - my ROM is one of the best.
Overall GB ROMs - Apex ROM (ported from i9000 I think) with KK4 kernel and modem.
KK4 stock has many annoying bugs - browser scroll, gallery etc

Thanks. this is what i was talking about. I wasnt sure if i flash other roms left behind without kk4 did that meant they were slower or whatever..or did by them being kk4 did it meant it should be less laggier or whatsoever... im just a flasher..not that sure of what diference does kk whatsoever do to roms..
Go with CM7 if you really want to go for!!!

[Q] ICS and JB

okay so the only thing i really like about cm10 compared to cm9 is the status bar.
its alot more cleaner in my opinion, but what i was wondering is if its possible to put the cm10 status bar onto cm9.
and if so can someone direct me to a tutorial on how to do this.
You mean the notification drawer right? I think you would have to change a couple of files in framework, some editing and some libs.. maybe more.
Bottom line: why go through all that trouble? Jb and ics are very similar, both cosmetically and in performance, and jb should surpass ics once it continues to be perfected, specially project butter.
Sent from my sweet and buttery Infuse
I agree with andros11. I've tried a ics-skinned gingerbread rom, 2 ics roms, and now a jb rom: the jb rom is by far my favorite, especially in regards to the notification bar and the response time. Try jb; you won't regret it
Sent from my Infuse–flavored Jelly Bean
I agree... I also have tried ICS covered GB ROMs and cm9. Absolutely love the cm10 jb ROM. Runs smooth with just a few very minor bugs. Not going back!
Sent from my Jelly Beaned Infuse 4G!
Only downside i've really noticed to CM10 so far is the fact that there is no more flash support and the internet is still heavily using flash right now.
Edit: was sifting through some posts and there is actually a browser that works with flash for jb. It's called xscope and it links to a post with a compatible flash version to install. Total awesomeness!

Flash actually works really well on JB. If you search for a flash apk, you can still install it and run it on other browsers too.
I was poking around the play store a while back and saw an app to get the jb notification style. I think it was called jelly bean notifications or something like that. Id post a link but im on the phone and its a pita.
I didnt test it as im on cm10 but try it out. Might be just what youre looking for
Edit: it was called jelly bean status bar. And it looks like it might change the way notifications are shown. But im not sure.

Gingerbread vs ICS on p500

What are the advantages and disadvantages of using one of those versions
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda app-developers app
> ICS is fast in terms of performance, it also have this 3D hardware acceleration, drains battery a bit faster than gb and froyo.. but ICS uses more RAM ans eats more space on system partition unlike GingerBread where in you'll get about 300mb free RAM and 120+ mb free internal memory (google apps included) already. Disadvantages of ICS as for now.. is HQ video play back.
ICS feels much smoother and beautiful than GB, but it's unusable for me because of high RAM usage and HQ video bug
GB is stable and best for our beloved optimus p500 ! Whereas ICS is unstable because of HQ video recording & playback!
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda app-developers app
yup at the moment GB is at the top with everything working(ignorin minorities)..
Im back to ginger
Enviado desde mi GT-I9100 usando Tapatalk 2
ICS feels smoother, and visually is awesome. But has the issue of the openmax libs.
GB depends on the rom that you use. Its estable and many roms are for daily use.
The question is if you are a uses it only for calling, messaging and sometimes needs a faster loading speed. [ICS].
Or for multimedia. [GB]
Are you talking here about stock GB vs. custom ICS or compairing both custom roms?
I wonder which are adv. and disadv. between stock GB and custom ICS?
Is it better or 'natural' for our device to run on (rooted) stock GB?

Both custom
may i throw in a third option beside ics and gb?
when i got my device i immediatly updated to gingerbread...
was nice, everything worked and it had nice battery...
seeing so many devices on market with ics i also wanted it and i got hephappys cm9...
sometimes crashes but less than on cm7 after gingerbread...
everything worked fine but as already mentioned less sys space...
now when jelly bean is released i searched for a cm 10 for the o1 because it was supposed to run smoother and that stuff..
currently im running cm10 on my phone, the battery life is not best, its ok, and the camera works even with some glitches.
when you can live with those i would really suggest you to try jb cause its MUCH smoother than gb and ics, you have cool new features like the notification system and google now, still not with voice but it is on its way
just my 10 cents

ICS > GB
If you are looking for battery life, stock ROM (GB) is best. But once you flash ICS, then it's hard to go back, really!!
ICS feels much different and intuitive than GB. Though battery drain is a problem with custom ROMs.
I am currently using Hephappy rc-2 prerelease CM9 ROM.
Almost all features works with only new glitches. Waiting for Final release with curiosity!
After using ICS, I feel GB an outdated looking ROM.
So, don't use ICS rom, otherwise you ll never be able to use GB!!

One more thing, Browsing is more than 2x faster on ICS ROMs than GB!!!!

Not true.
Stock ICS keyboard just works.
Now get rid of any ordinary keyboards and get Swype. I use bi-lingual Swype here and it works REALLY smoothly and beautiful.
Use minimal ics keyboard from themes and app section only 1.3 mb.

My favourite: GB 2.3.3 + custom kernel
1. Stock GB 2.3.3 + custom kernel.
2. GB 2.3.7 (CyanogenMod or Oxygen)
3. ICS
Currently I'm running a very light stock rom (bloatware heavily removed) + ta kernel v.1.1 + custom apps that I use frequently (daily) + themed. Everything works fine (including call recording by Sanity), it's quite fast (I use SetCPU: 122-600 in general and 245-748 for the launcher and certain slower apps) and it has an excellent battery life. Those other apps that I use rarely (weekly or more) are installed in a second rom (based on cyanogenmod) that i boot from my sdext partition with multirom manager whenever necessary.
